    The battery number is AS07B42.
That is for the 14.8v version (not the 11V)

    I bought mine from here
    8 Cell Battery For ACER Aspire 5520 6935 8930 8930G 7720G 6920G 6930G 14.8V NEW | eBay
They were very helpful, sent me 2 replacements before I got one that worked, and never asked me to send the 2 faulty back - which would have been extra cost.

    Thanks pewe

I think i have spotted the prob, the 2 i have are 11v, weird thing is, they both power up my machine, it does seem to amaze me how so many sellers dont seem to know which battery fits what.
I take it all 8930's were 14.8v? i cant even check on ym orig battery as i binned it as it held no charge

Sorry, I am not sure about that - and not sure how you would find out which was correct for your 8930.

    Hello
I've noticed that the 8390 had 9700M GTS video card. Can somebody please point me in the direction of a vbios file? Or can you pull it for me with nvflash? I'm looking for one to flash an Fx2700M for my Area 51 m17x. I flashed it to Fx1800M and have higher clocks, but I would like a GeForce bios, and the 9700M GTS is the only one which fits.
    Thank you

heres a question, when i took apart the laptop the other day to replace the thermal paste, i notices that it cant take any migger graphic cards. but thats because theres a plastic part there which is one of the hard drive cases, if i were to take this out, what other size graphics cards could i fit ? like generally what is the best graphics card for this laptop. cause, theres no one thats stated on here which is. sand some people also need clarification,

people have mentioned the 3700m, but some reported this wouldnt work, so whats the downgrade to the next gpu that wiill fit and work ? is it just the 9700m ?

erm yeah, i have a acer 8930g, i ant more computing power and graphics power, so im thinking about selling the laptop, and building a pc with the latest gtx690 or similar card in there with a quad core processor.

since the laptop isnt really up for the latest games, id like to put it on sale, i dont really knwo whats a fair price for the laptop, but i can say this, its in mint condition, unmodified, with box. literally pristine condition.

can some one give me an price range i should be selling this for or id be willing to sell it to some one on this site as i dont really trust ebay atall. nore gumtree.

i can also confirm, that this laptop will support the quatro fx3700, s ive checked with cpuz, i have hardly used the laptop as i cant really game on it.

    any offers/opinions is welcome.

    thanks

hi earlier i turn on acer 8930g and sad to see a problem. the problem is the inverter has gone i found this out by doing searches on net where the screen bright for a second then dull, and you cant even make out anything on screen. gonna have to order one from amazon.co.uk. this this is one i need Eseller Direct - Dual Lamp Screen Inverter For Acer Aspire 8920 8920g 8930 8930g - P/N TBD489NR 19.AP50N.00. EA02b489T: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories i was thinking take it to shop to fit as a while back i was gonna try remove a hair from inside the screen but when i tried take of plastic bezel it not move and did not want to apply force that could damage screen and the plastic screen bezel which i will at some time replace. just want to know is it easy to do and to gi about removing screen bezel and fitting new inverter. also what would make my existing inverter stop working, if i press fn f6 it shows screen for a second.i can only see screen if plug the hdmi cable from tv into laptop and what i see on screen.

Ok.. sorted a few probs out , mainly battery

Started my upgrades today , cpu from a T5800 to T9400 and gefore 9600gs to geforce 9700gt, just those alone made a massive difference.
I got the donor parts from a machine i bought on ebay with a dash screen and cosmetic probs.
    Just ordered 2x 500gb 7200rpm seagate drives
but apon stripping the donor machine, i found a couple of goodies, TV card with wiring and socket ( going to be a complete strip down job just to get the wire and USB card in)
and also found a dual inverter and wiring.. so a full 1080p upgrade , just need to source a screen

So glad i joined this forum, a wealth of knowledge... have never done any mods to a laptop in the past, apart from the 5315 cpu upgrade, so this is quite project to take on

my 8930g is mint condition and its the first laptop i have had that i really do like, so for me, its well worth the upgrades

I shall take some pics when i start and post on here (and yes i have nearly read all 270 odd posts in this section)

to remove the bezel, you need to disconnect to hinges from the base, as under the 2 screws at the bottom are another 4 screws , which can only be accessed by removing the hinges.
you will need to remove the pastic hinge covers on both ends, and the led modules and power socket
then remove the plastic strip where your power button is , unscrew screws from underneath, 2 are in the battery compartment
then remove 2 screws from each hinge under the power button tray and 1 screw underneath it should all then pop out and you will see the 4 screws at the bottom

will also get new bezel. hopefully if i can get screen bezel off can remove the trapped hair which been there a few months. also anyone notice this when gaming on the 8930g that some games when playing the sound for music and sound effects is perfect but in some others sound effects volume is perfect but music in the game is very low. also if you then plug in speakers its other way round where music is loud but voice and sound effects quiet. in the dead space games it perfect for volume on music and sound effect also max paynes.but for games like the new devil may cry you hear the voices and sound effects but music is very quiet if headphones in its perfect and if plug speakers in music loud voice and effects quiet. anyone else notice this. i also need get myself some rubber covers for to cover the screws in screen bezel.downloaded manual just now think site information better as manual dont give information about task just bout taking whole laptop apart.but ages ago when tried removing all the screws around bezel was worried about screen as you have to put fingers between screen and bezel which i did not wanna do as thought bezel would break.

Stick with a 500+gb hard disk and buy yourself a decent 120+gb SSD. Use the SSD for a clean install of windows and then keep the rest of your stuff on the slower HDD.

If you upgrade to a 9700GT GPU then yes. And when you do have a really good look at the contact points, i filed a small section off where the heat sink was contacting capacitors before bedding down on the GPU fully & no matter what I do temps don't hit 80C.

All the information you might want is in this thread several times over!

Good idea can you takeba picture of where you did it.

My 9700m gt hits 99c quite a bit under load. Want to get some coolaboratory ultra for it and my CPU to help keep temps way low down.

Quite interested to see where you filed off on your 9700gt too Captain Cluck, just installed one myself

squee .. i wouldnt have thought coolaboratory ultra would be much good on our cpu and gpu's .. i used arctic MX-2 , works a treat , non metalic too, which is quite handy for the gpu chip
Dont get the MX-4 its a bit watery for my liking, i find the mx-2 better than arctic silver 5

Im still on vista at present, so i may look into insalling an ssd if i upgrade to win 7 .. which is looking more likely, as i think vista is holding my cpu back.. only got a score of 5.4 ?

cant see why vista would be hold the cpu back, the windows score doesn't mean a great deal really and vista score only went to 5.9 max anyway

Cheers shaken, i knew win 7 went to 7.9, didnt know vista only went to 5.9 ... when you upgraded to 7 what did you do regarding power management etc as i dont see that on the acer drivers page, after seeing a few vids on youtube, i kinda like the idea of getting an ssd, might as well do it while i have the machine in bits .. nice spec by the way :)

I didn't do anything, never missed it in win 7.
yes get a SSD its one of the best things you can did to the 8930g well worth doing and with the 8930g having 2 drive bays you can put the old HDD in bay 2.
I wouldn't mind upgrading the GPU but just haven't got round to it as there not cheap.

Thanks shaken, just been looking at ssd's .. thinking probably 128gb would be more than ample, could even do a 64gb .. any recomendations? does seem to be a lot of conflicting reviews on the web, i was thinking on going for ocz or maybe crucial, they seemed to pop up a lot .. i saw the samsung, but i had nothing but grief with samsung drives in the past just dying

For those of you interested in my bit of DIY [don't worry I AM a builder really lol].

    DSC01433.jpg

You can hopefully see the square piece filled out. The bottom corner was a bit of fun while I had the ward files out & was thinking about heat transfer.

I only did this because when I first put in the 9700GT it was not possible to tighten the screws equally and I could see the heat sink touching the card/transistor. As a double check I removed the GPU & could see the thermal paste [ applied as the thinnest possible smear ] was not making contact equally accross the GPU. Now it does & I haven't often connected the fans on my cooler master U3 for ages. A new replacement fan was also a good investment when the old one started making weird noises!

Just remember the thermal paste transfers heat & does no cooling. The least you can use to make contact [ NO AIR GAPS] means the heat sink does a better job.

I have had no problems with a crucial 128GB SSD & it does make a big difference against the original.

You are totaly right about the gap. Without it the card does't make good contact with the heatsink and overheating is eminent. I installed today my brand new 9700m GT, making the nessessary mods to the stock heatsink.

    CAM00004.jpg

Also anyone who has made the cpu upgrade with a larger TPD keep in mind that the stock PSU needs to be changed AND the internal power cable. The higher amperage fries the stock one at high system loads. I think another user made a complaint that the laptop was losing contact with the PSU.
That was because the 120Watt PSU sypplies larger amounts of current to a small connector that wasn't desiged to withstand it.

Finally I installed an internal DVB-T card in the free mini PCI-E slot. Also change the usb board with the one that has the antenna connector, made some drilling to the casing and the acer external antenna just.... ROCKS...... :D

didnt have a file so i just used pliers to bend the metal away around affected area as its very pliable.

im using the x9100 and 9700m gt with a 90w PSU the only issue i seem to have had is i can OC the cpu to 3.6ghz at 1.25v

it seems to run fine from what i have. Though im thinking what the voltage and ampage on the 120w charger and would it actually help in anyway because my system is working fine even when it had 2 HDD's in maybe a performance boost in GPU due to extra draw etc?

Wish i had the aerial but internet doesnt seem to have it :<

Propably it needs more juice to get to 3,6. I have 2 HDDs and one is SSD.

For the aerial you can contact your local acer parts distributor and get them brand new. The part codes are:

    25.AAMVN.004 for the antenna
55.AP30N.001 for the usb board with the antenna
TU.23100.010 for the DVB-T module of avermedia A310 (or on ebay)

I got the A306 and had trouble finding drivers for win7 X64, but the A310 has drivers on ACERs site. The module works only with Windows Media Center and not Aver Media sofware. Haven't tried anything else though....

Captain cluck, thanks for the pic, never noticed that myself, but then you asume because its a stock card and heatsink it should fit properly, will be attacking that mod next week

Jerryzago .. im about to attack retro fitting the DVB-T myself , i have the A-310 card along with the usb board, how did you find fitting it,? i found it a pain getting it out of the donor machine

shakennstired .. cheers, i hadnt thought about corsair, i'll have to look into it , just ordered a 750gb scorpio black for the 2nd drive, luckily a friend was after some 500gb's so just sold my 2 new ones, just need a copy of win7 ultimate or pro and a 128gb ssd .. i think you are right about a 64 , prob is too small, had a look this afternoon and notice the 64gb's are slower read write speeds too
