Hi guys, does anyone know where I can buy a battery for this laptop from? Preferably under £50 but if not then that's fine. (Not a CMOS battery by the way). I live in southern England if that helps.

I had the P8400 but upgrading to q9000 and q9100 failed miserably. You could try qx9300 if you are feeling lucky.

A trick is to see which motherboard your system has. If it has .04 for the last 2 digits propably you can make the swap.

Although if your system isn't equipped witu a c2q in the first place, its a no go situation.

Still worth trying the following procedure:

1.upgrade to the latest version for the bios. 1.20 official or 1.21 modded from this site.
    2. Remove the cmos battery. The small connector seen next to the hdd underneath the laptop.
    3. Make the cpu swap.
    4. Connect the cmos battery cable back.
    5. Hope it will boot.....

Good luck and post results for everyone to know.

    Thanks for your reply.

I had previously upgraded my BIOS to v1.20 with Intel VT enabled, following the procedure at Marcan's blog.

While preparing for my attempt to upgrade to v1.21, I noticed that my laptop's serial number and UUID (whatever that is) both appear to be non-random dummy values. Is that normal or did I make a mistake when I enabled Intel VT?

I upgraded my bios from the acer site. It also deleted my laptop info from my bios. Propably it is an error from the programmers. So far I didn't have any problem from that.

Now that I have Windows 8.1 on my machine, what would be the recommended way to flash the BIOS if all I have is a .FD file from an unofficial source? Is it safe under Windows 8.1, or should I boot from something like Hirwen's Boot CD?

Hi there. I am a proud owner of an Aspire 8930G for 5 years now.

Before I start, I’ll warn you now that this may end up being a long post. This is the first time I’ve posted in this forum and to be honest the first time I have posted in any forum. I would like to thank all of the authors on this thread. The information you guys have posted in the past have been incredibly useful for me. I really don’t know why it took me like three years from reading this thread, to actually signing up and becoming part of it!

When I was 11, my dad bought me this laptop, I don’t know what he was thinking but I assure you this is my only possession above £100 :p This is the model with the T6400 (2.0GHz , 2 core), 9600MGT (1GB) and 1080p display. Recently everyone around seems to be bugging me to replace my laptop. Sure some of the keys on the laptop are broken, one scratch on the screen, a million and one scratches on the lid, dodgy hinge, dead CMOS battery, non-functional battery and blue LED not working on one side but I really really love this laptop. Especially the beautiful 1080p 18.4” display on this beast. My parents offered to get me a new laptop after my GCSE results come out. Their justification is that this laptop is too large (I couldn’t care less) and that it’s getting old now. I looked at some of the laptops on the market at the moment for the price I got this (~£800), and I really don’t see anything special. The only things they seem to have over an upgraded 8930G is like 12GB of RAM, i7 processors (Pretty low clock speeds though) and slightly better graphics. So that brings me on to my first question, upgrade this laptop or buy a new one? Related to that, how long till you think my laptop will completely die? (I shall give it a decent funeral, don’t worry!).

Now a few questions about the software side of things. Are there any unofficial or official drivers/patches for the various components of my laptop so that I can get the best from it? I did read through most of this thread but I don’t really understand which BIOS patches, Graphics drivers etc etc work for me. I remember someone talking about a 9600MGT driver allowing it to utilise the CUDA processors (In all honesty I don’t know what it is :p). Also is there any way of putting 8GB onto the 8930G? I heard that the board can take 8GB but the chipset limits it?

Also, while we are talking about software, I found a modded driver for the touchpad which you may find useful (you guys probably have already found it though!). This driver allows multi touch gestures on the touch pad which come in incredibly useful for tasks such as scrolling through my long post right now!

New HP Touchpad Driver that Unlocks Multi-Touch on older Touchpad - www.hardwarezone.com.sg

Now hardware. If I can convince my parents, I may try and upgrade the laptop. I have already installed an OCZ Vertex Plus SSD (two years ago). I love it as it makes this laptop feel faster than like any new computer (providing the new computer doesn’t have an SSD!). It’s a 60GB drive (capacity is enough for windows and programs) but the read speed numbers are quite small. Do you think I will get a noticeable increase in speed by upgrading my SSD? I am definitely going to buy a new battery (8 cell, 14.xV is the one which works right?). Now processor. I can’t make my mind up if I want a low clock speed quad core (Q9000) or a high clock speed dual core (E8335). I usually use my laptop for school work, but do keep a lot of programs open at once. I also regularly use it for video editing. I don’t game much because my laptop can’t really handle the latest games, but I guess it would be beneficial if the processor was good with gaming too. So with this in mind, what processor do you think I should purchase? I want good performance, good price, and preferably one which doesn’t lead to me becoming infertile by leaving the Aspire on my lap! Now the graphics. I heard the best upgrade you can do is a FX3700M? If I remember correctly, it means I have to sacrifice a display port or something? The problem with this upgrade is that laptops graphic cards seem rather expensive and I think the upgrade requires a higher power power supply or something? So, do you reckon an upgrade is worth it? Also have you guys had any luck with an external GPU with the Aspire, and what was your experience? Is there any good use for my spare PCI express mini? I reckon I will go for a USB 3 Express card, mainly due to the near 1A fast charging. Also didn’t one author have plans to replace the LCD with an LED one, any luck? The cinedash is just another thing I love about this laptop (and just don’t seem to appear on new laptops), has anyone figured how to hack it for other purposes like as a VU meter?
Does anyone have any cooling mods? The airflow on this laptop is pretty poor. I have designs on both water cooling and peltier cooling but I don’t wanna kill the laptop so I have not risked it. Are there any parts of my laptop which I can actually overclock and what programs do you recommend for it? Now final question guys, does anyone have any spare parts for their 8930G which they don’t mind selling me?

Once again thank you all so very much! You guys really are life savers. I’m very sorry for my multitude of questions, my teachers complain about it too! I don’t know if anyone even uses this laptop anymore but it is awesome and the users seem pretty awesome too! Also, check out my YouTube channel - TRUSTECH - YouTube

I booted from Hiren's boot CD and flashed the BIOS to v1.21. It works (Intel VT is enabled) but I have lost the option to press F12 to select the boot device. Has anyone else experienced this?

I flashed from 1.13 to 1.21 with EIST but there are no option sets CPU/GPU, anyone has any clue?
    thanx in advance

after careful reading, I got some answers and Im going to do what my compatriot did...

I think it can go up to a Q9100 quad core CPU if you have PM45 chipset.

EDIT: This guy sells T9600 for only 28$: http://www.ebay.nl/itm/Intel-Core-2...sor-/131224681674?pt=CPUs&hash=item1e8d99bcca

6gb is the limit that will run on the 8930g, there was someone claiming they had it running 8gb but they could never prove it with screen shot etc.
in my tests it wouldn't boot with 2 x 4gm ram stocks but booted fine with 1x 2gb stick and 1x 4gb stick
the chipset limit is 8gb, but as said 6 is the limit it will boot with and i did try different ram types n manufactures

I did my best to scavenge information for our laptop but its time to move on. My Acer 8930g is for sale with the specs posted on my signature. I would like to thank everyone in this forum for their help and information.

It seems that the long term usage of quadro fx 3700m, made the card unstable, because the voltimizers were exposed. A handmade heatsing could have made the difference. I am back to my good old 9700m GT.

Please help if poss! 8930G rebooting every few seconds/minutes.

My 8930G has an issue, it recently started rebooting randomly (instantly turns off then turns back on). At first it was only a slight issue but it kept getting worse. It seems a bit strange, I don't think the laptop is overheating (as this would normally suggest). It usually happens a few times when it's first turned on and then it will last a while before it does it again (opposite of what you'd expect from overheating). Sometimes it would say Windows failed to start and show system restore.

I've pretty much ruled out software issues as I did system restore, windows/driver updates, bios reset and finally reinstalled Windows fresh (I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit btw).

I opened it up the first time to take the GPU partly out and put it back in, I also re-applied thermal paste.

It then stopped displaying anything, I opened up the laptop, and took off the heatsinks noticed there was a little excess thermal paste on both the CPU and GPU so removed it. I also took the GPU partly out and put it back in.

Now it's back to square 1 (displays but reboots), one thing I noticed is it doesn't seem to reboot when I'm in bios, at least at the moment, but I'm not sure.

I've been using MX-2 thermal paste (non conductive).

The GPU was a recent upgrade (9600m but GT version with DDR3 ram). I'm starting to think the card is dying but I want to rule out any other potentials before I replace in case that's not it.

If anyone can help I'd greatly appreciate it!

    My 8930g (P8600 model) after 6 years :
    - BIOS battery changed
    - Main battery changed
    - Moving to Windows 7 64 bits (4 GO RAM used instead of 3 maxi on 32 bit)
    - 1 HDD changed to SSD SAMSUNG 850 EVO 250 GO : just WOW !!! incredible performances improvement : I suggest it to all 8930G owners !
    - no wanted and brutal shut down while starting or 1/3 min after start during the first 10 minutes and after that no problem . Anybody had this issue ?
    - other ideas of improvements ?

Hello guys! I'm new to the forum (just completed my registration a couple of seconds ago) but this topic is an old one to me as I have interest in upgrading my old and junky 8930G laptop. Obviously, the big dilemma is regarding the GPU card as there are some troubles that I'll face by moving to a new one. If I'm not mistaken, I saw that NVidia Quadro FX3700M 1GB could be the best GPU I can have for my laptop and I managed to find a source for one of such a VGA card. If I'll buy it, I'm supposing that I'll not be so lucky to live a "plug-and-play" experience, isn't it? I, somehow, understand that I have to change the BIOS on my machine too. Moreover, there are other users on this forum who are experiencing with this FX3700 card and should I understand that is not fully compatible? I'm not referring to VGA output and HDMI since the first I didn't used in my entire life while the second I'm barely using it.
On another hand there is another card which can be used made by ATI/AMD and is Radeon HD 4670. Sadly it's quite rare (at the moment I'm writing this post) and can be found only in MXM III interface (I hope I'm right about the connector!) I don't know if Radeon will offer VGA and/or HDMI but since it's hard to get I would stick to FX counterpart.

I know there are some of you who have a lot of experience in this matter thus can I kindly ask one of you to help me changing my VGA card with success? Thank you, Lucian

    Hello, Lucian!

Where have you seen Nvidia Quadro FX3700M MXM-II version? Maybe you are talking about FX770M o_O

You have MXM-II slot, thus, the best for you is GT240M (GT330M) or 4670M. Can`t tell you about VGA or HDMI output. VGA or HDMI should work, I think, if this feature is supported by the card herself.

    Nicobearn, Hello!

You can now upgrade your CPU to X9100 and video card to these, that I`ve posted above.

@ propolkin: thank you for your input! Must probably I messed up MXMs. There are so many that I don't know which is which now... In the past I've dismantled my laptop several times to fix few things here and there (plastic mostly) and I saw the MXM II connector I have there. The VGA card I'm speaking about is something like this:
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lot-of-7-HP...674?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item463b75add2
(obviously I won't buy 7...) which I understand it has pin to pin compatibility with MXM II except the additional power slots. My thoughts are this: if it's compatible to my MXM II socket, then for the additional power pads I'll bring power by using wires (I know, I have to use filters, decoupling caps and so on..) In addition, I want to change the MXM II socket on my motherboard and replace it with one used for FX-3700M... just to avoid soldering wires directly on it!
The big problem is not hardware as I'm used with small parts but the BIOS, software and other stuff that I'm not good at. In addition, I know about changing the adapter, the power connector on the side of my laptop and the internal powering wires to handle that amount of current. I've done that already (at least a part of it). Replacing HDDs with SSDs will allow me to redirect some power to the GPU and CPU. In addition, I have plans to replace my screen with one having LED backlight and not double CCFLs like I have now... but this is another story. I want to take them one at a time if possible... and the GPU is my worse nightmare yet!

As a side story, somewhere in the past I bought a motherboard MBASZ0B004 and used Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9300 2.53 GHz Quad-Core Processor on it with (partial?) success - it went way too hot and I had to switch back to my stock processor (for safety purposes). Sadly I didn't had the chance to see 8Gigs of RAM working on that MB, but 6.

Anyway, back to GPUs, I have a chance to buy FX-3700M and give it a run to the second MB I have for spare. Should I try it or go to a "safer" way and replace my GPU with something else? Thank you!

Oh damn, that`s interesting and crazy!

First of all - if the card will have vBIOS chip on it, I don`t think that there will be any problem with it. And this is if you have Phoenix BIOS.

I don`t know if you have enough space on the motherboard in order to swap the MXM-II to MXM-HE connector, but how you gonna de-solder old MXM-II slot and solder MXM-HE slot? Do you have IR lamp for soldering chips or something like that? o_O

Yeah, you have to change the powering wires, adapter and other stuff. But what you gonna do with tracks on the motherboard? The MXM connector (Revision III type A,B) is rated of max 100W. Don`t know is this the same for MXM-HE. But I don`t think that tracks on the motherboard are designed to deliver such power to the card.

Than what are your thoughts about cooling? Even if you manage to install HE socket, HE card and somehow manage to boot the laptop after that, how do you want to cool it? Stock heatpipe, radiator and cooler absolutely are not ready to handle such heat. You have to modify strongly you cooling module.

About QX9300 - which thermal paste did you use and does the heatsink from 8942G/8940G can be installed into 8930G?

And the last - maybe it is time to buy a new system with MXM-III Type B slot? :D

Yes, it seems crazy and yes, I thought several times to drop my idea and move on by choosing a new laptop but, I'm a perfectionist and tend to have "all" from the start. From the financial point of view I know where a new laptop purchase will get me so I'll drop it for now! I don't have 3-4k euros to push into a new laptop, not to mention that lately I want a desktop now... and that will be more expensive.
Back to real stuff, my story with QX9300 was a beautiful one. I did use my spare board for testing and wired up all additional connectors from my laptop to it. I didn't want to take huge risks with old MB... (even if I did put QX9300 on it and saw that it's not working :D ). My pleasant surprise was that my new MB ( "new" = a second hand, repaired and "verified" MB bought from Hong Kong) with QX9300 booted from the start. Now, I cannot remember well if I flashed the BIOS in spare MB with something moded or leaved "as is". It ran beautifully, I could do some tests.... and I decided to move forward and download some stress software. From what I remember, two of them pushed my proc in decent limits and I could see ~54-57 degree Celsius on it for a couple of minutes.
One in particular which I cannot remember now, push it too hard and each time I got the thermal protection on CPU fired => blank screen and start from the beginning. I notice that each time after I ran that program, CPU went very hot, too hot for the heat pipes to compensate the temp difference and cool it down.
Ah yes, I used a modified BIOS to gain access to something inside the CPU and change its multiplication factor... even if I couldn't do that... don't know why but the option was greyed out (CPU already overclocked?).
That deal with thermal overload made me to switch back to old processor (and MB) and leave all happy moments for other times. I mean, leaving as it was, I couldn't know when I'm working on my laptop and, with several programs open, I'm activating the thermal protection by mistake... => my work in that particular moment was gone.
I mention that I was using stock heatpipes but changed the default thermal paste with Coollaboratory "Liquid MetalPad" and Liquid Ultra Paste, also from them. Good stuff!

Removing the GPU card connector: I do have some equipments here (and some skill to use them) but I do not think that I'll be able to remove it in one piece while preserving the "sanity" of all remaining pads on the MB. Pads have the highest priority here. Because of that, I would rather try to destroy the stock VGA connector and then replace it with a new one which fits FX3700. If I'll be forced to switch back to old card, I'm very confident I'll find a similar connector on the market (or leave the default one as it seems are compatible!).
Now, there's again question about FX3700 card... a power hungry I might say! How do I know if this board does have vBIOS (as you call it) and not. BIOS from my laptop is InsydeFLASH (or something like that and not the one you told me) I cannot restart it right now since I'm writing my long post with it :)
    Cheers, L

P.S. Cooling is a problem, I must confess that!

The options of overclock were grayed out because your BIOS doesn`t support that feature, even if the option is "added" in menus in BIOS. That is just a "cosmetics" in your case. QX9300 can be overclocked using Throttlestop.

What do you mean saying "wired up all additional connectors from my laptop to it" ? What you have wired in order to make QX9300 work? Isn`t quad cores supported by default in 8930G?

And even with Liquid Ultra your CPU was overheating? o_O Than yeah, your cooling module is not designed for such powers.

In order to understand which card has the vBIOS chip on it (ROM chip) just search about 6770M or M4000 in 5739G thread. I`ve described this question there fully. :)

InsideFLASH? Hmmm, I`ve not worked with such BIOS yet.

Yes, I thought it could be that so but I wasn't sure! Anyway it's too much for my laptop already as long as I had those troubles with CPU heating. I remember about Throttlestop and was able to give it a ~2.5-2.7 GHz run to that quad without hitting 3.0 GHz (was a bit upset about that :) ) Anyway, if there's no proper cooling there's no reason to rise my CPU's freq... for now.

I dismantled my laptop, removed the old Motherboard and put the new one in the same place but without fixing it with screws. Then I tool all the surrounding flex cables/wires and wire it up.

:) No, this is not possible... Just plugged in into dedicated socket.

It seems that isn't! There are two versions for 8930 that I could find so far: for core 2 duo and quad. My MB is MB.ASZ0B.001 (with '1' at the end) and was built for Core2Duo. It cannot run quads on it, I've test it and saw with my own eyes. That was the reason I bought MB.ASZ0B.004 (with "4" at the end) and I could saw my quad working with it.

    Sad but true!

I'll do it, thank you for pointing me out!

It's InsydeH2O  I mess it up again. If I remember correctly (again) InsideFLASH was the application to upload my BIOS directly from Windows.

I'll get back and look to your threads pointed above. Kind regards, L

Oh, I thought you`ve managed to add new tracks for chipset and CPU socket in order to make it possible to run Quad CPU. :D Understand now. Why I was asking - in 5739G we have two motherboards, but both don`t accept quads. And that is so when both has PM45 chipset, which supports QUADs by the specification. But the problem is in the schematics of the motherboard itself. If you look into motherboard schematics of 5739G, you`ll notice, that not connections from PM45 chipset are used. It seems that it is the same situation as with you motherboard of version Nr.1

Wait. If there is a motherboard that supports quads (as you mentioned), than there must be a heatsink module, that is able to cool them. You should check it!

The situation like that is with 7738G. This laptop has two versions of MB - with quad support, and without. Both has two types of heatsink modules. First- for cooling core 2 duo CPUs, second - for cooling core 2 quad CPU in addition (able to cool 44W TDP CPUs). Thus, you really have to take a service manual of 8930G and walk through a part list. There must be different versions of heatsink module.

In addition, you can post an image of the card from both sides and I`ll tell you, if it is ROMless or not.

Never worked with that. Sorry. But as I know there are some good threads describing how to mod, flash and recover BIOSes from InsydeH2O.

Sadly I couldn't find any heatsink different than what I have on my 8930. The service manual I have at disposal can be seen here: http://tim.id.au/laptops/acer/aspire 8930.pdf
At the bottom of page 113 you can clearly see that there are two heatsink modules built for VGA cards: it seems that 60.AP70N.001 could be the one I need. Obviously, I have the other heatsink installed on my laptop. As for the one for CPU... there is no clue so far. I guess if there was something it had to be listed on that manual... Maybe I'm looking int he wrong place. I have to dig in to the next versions of this family (8935g, 8940G) hoping that I'll have some good results, who knows!

Yeah, I'm definitely looking in the wrong place as there's no listing about the "new" MoBo I have (that one for Quads). I can see only that built for Core2Duos. But, where the h a c k do I have to look for it? Is anyone that can help me on this?
    Thank you,
    Lucian

On the page 102 of that pdf there is a schematics that shows, which heatsink module is which. You should use 60.AP70N.001 as you said. About CPU cooling module - it is the only one for your laptop 60.AP50N.003. It has variety of revisions, it seems (as we have in 5739G, for example), because I`ve seen in the web with aluminium plate or copper plate. You should search for the version with copper plate.

Here is a screenshoot from newer manual of 8930G. Thus, it is really for your laptop motherboard.

8935G/8940G have absolutely different motherboard and equipment shape. I don`t think that cooling modules will be exchange-able with yours.

    Hey guys and gals!

    Let's start 8930g for Windows 10 problem/sollution section here.

I installed the lastest version of Windows 10 - final build 10240 - the final version as Windows Insider.

Problems that we have to solve are:

    - FingerPrint reader - doesn't work.
    - Synaptics trackpad - I'm getting windows update that can't install. The thing that is the most annoying is that double finger scroll doesn't work and we can't scroll down/up the web page with two finger swipe.
    - Launch Manager - I tried both version from Acer support site and it doesn't work even if you put Win 7, 8, 8.1 compatibility.

If you know a fix for any of the above problems please share.

BTW everything else works great and my 8930g boots in 20 seconds! Yes, really, 20 seconds with regular HDD.

I found a fix for Synaptics trackpad. Previously I was unable to scroll with 2 fingers.

Go to Device manager --> Mice and other pointing devices.

Then uninstall second item from that menu and restart your laptop. After that second item should be generic MS PS2.

Go to http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds032247 and download and install driver.

Now you can use your trackpad with 2 finger scroll in Windows 10.

    Hello to all!
I recently formatted my 8930g (first time since i bought it in 2009) and installed windows 7 ultimate x64 and changed the main hdd (ST9320421AS) with a 240gb SanDisk SSD (SDSSDHII240G).
    Everything works much better faster and smoother except from four things;

    1) The GPU is raising its working temperature to 65 degrees Celsius (from 45 oC when idle to 53 oC when browsing the net and to 65+ when using AutoCAD with hardware acceleration on, Google Earth etc).
That causes a decreased and laggy performance.
The installed driver version for the GPU (9700M GT) is 341.81.
The fan is not dusty at all, the air flow is excellent and the thermal paste about a week old.
*Note same setting and programs (of course not x64 editions line now) used in the previous setup (vista home premium x86) and never had any problem with GPU.

    2) The HD audio (5.1 Cinematic Surround + TUBA) is not as loud as it was in the original vista setup, also the surround sound quality is poor and does not feel "very surround". The driver is Realtek High Definition Audio version 6.0.1.7541 (In the Levels tab of Speakers Properties window, Center, Subwoofer, Side and Front levels set are to max 100).

    3) From the Dash Media Console, when I increase or decrease the volume level using it, nothing happens (but mute, enter, hold works OK).

    4) The validity sensor (fingerprint) software (acer bioprotection) is not able to record the fingerprint even after 6 accepted (by the software) tries.

Also I am interested in upgrading 8930g's RAM to 6gb (using a 4gb and a 2gb module). I 've read on forum that it is possible. Has anyone tried it?

From all the above the most important for me is the GPU issue. If anyone has a workaround or a solution that does not involve to downgrade the system to vista or a x32 version of windows, it would much appreciated to indicate it!
Is it possible to use a different GPU that will not be as hot during laptop use?

Can you post cpu and gpu temperature readings?

What kind of mods does the bios need to read 8gb ram?

I am unable to install Windows 10. It spends a lot of time doing checks and copying files, but when it reboots, it hangs and when you power it off and on again it says:
    "We couldn't install Windows 10
    ...
    0xC1900101-0x20017
The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during BOOT operation."

    I tried this on 2015-12-25.

    Hello all,
after some silence three days ago I was crushed by two parts that simply blew away from the MB of my Acer Aspre 8930. It tuned out those parts were part of a local but nasty 5Vdc switching PSU. I still can sens the unpleasant smell under the plastic covers :) Anyway, after I saw that the single PC I have has simply died I was FORCED to resume my habit of upgrade my laptop. So, I took the Quad core MB i bought back in 2015 and put QX9300 processor on it and hit the power button (after it was assembled back). So, til now I can back up Ares6' changes and say it will work with a proper MB (the one for quads) and QX9300 processor.
The nasty thing on my story is tied to the fact that thermal "metal liquid" I used back in 2015 has simply dried out and crack => leaving the chips become hotter than expected, especially the GPU, where I saw some shadows on the surface (burned?). Anyway, it seems to be okay now (since I can see what I'm writing to you :).
For now, I have the MoBo and processor, but I also own a GTX260M which.. is not working... obviously. it would be nice knowing a guy who's able to change the BIOS in our laptops and "unlock" some features for it, especially when it comes to GPU and 8GB RAM.

Next I'll try to change the stock coolers with this one because it seems to me more "professional":
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/381529027877?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

I have NO ideas if it will fit but I'll find out soon!
Next I want to change the LCD with Samsung type - LED backlight (if the one I received from HK is the right type)

Hi guys, I tried upgrading the bios and now I'm stuck with a possibly ruined 8930, and I need your help. Here is a description of my problem:
    1. Tried upgrading BIOS, update program reboots laptop.
    2. Laptop screen goes black, fans and lights still on.
    3. I let it for some time, after which I cut power(don't remember if I held the power button or turned off the wall plug)
    4. After re-plugging it on the wall, the laptop would receive power as indicated by the narrow led above the power button, but wouldn't respond to power button presses.
    5. Disassembled laptop, removed and re-inserted CMOS battery.
    6. Now laptop turns on on its own as soon as it gets plugged in, fan runs at full speed, and optical drive spins like it does when booting normally. Screen remains black, not even backlight.

I tried making a crisis USB and CD, but I'm not sure how to make it as some places say to just copy the BIOS file on the disk, others use a program to make a disk, and the file naming is unclear. Plus, the laptop doesnt respond to Fn+Esc or Win+B, and no leds flash. When using a CD(with just the bios file in, no special crisis disk), the laptop reads a bit from the drive, then remains at the black screen.

Is there anything I can do, or did I just make a paperweight out of my laptop?
