When I'm restoring original Acer's OS, it works even without modem drivers (my laptop was originally supplied w/o the modem). And I've just've made another experiment: fresh OS, Acer-supplied driver for wifi, and 3G driver from your link. Its still the same - not switching...
And - jaybee, could you please let me know if your GTM was preinstalled by Acer, or you did it yourself after purchase?! -

Hey guys, does anyone know, if there is powersmart manager for 3810TG running win7 32bit?
-
-
@maxim_fr
thanks for the upload, much appreciated!
and yeah, i bought my timeline with the 3g modem preinstalled. what about u?
edit: +1 rep for scoring the flasher! -
Hey Guys,
i am done - everything is working now perfectly (Launcher, 3G, GPS) thnx to that many tips from you. I have now a 3810tg which is perfect
Here's my setup:
3810tg with 3G
deinstalled all Acer 3G driver (crap) reboot
3G driver: Option Global Connect 3 (5.0.26.0 from Option Website) reboot
firmware upgrade with tool described above (1000 Thank you's to the uploader)
Again - big thanks to this board here.... -
I've bought my GTM382 on ebay from some chineese seller, and I've installed it myself.
Well, that could make the diffrence and explain why it's working for you and not working for me & the others. And I want to explore and eliminate this unknown diffrence. That's why I'm asking you for more information:
- what is the full hardware ID of your GTM382? That could be seen in device manager, at the "Detail" tab. For instance, mine is "USB\VID_0AF0&PID_7601&REV_0000" and I just want to know if yours is diffrent?
- what was the initial firmware version on your GTM382? Mine was 1.7.0 when modem arrived. I've upadated to 2.8.1 from Acer's FTP, and then to 2.9.5 from FSC. What is your firmware version? You could check this from Acer's 3G connection manager via pressing Alt+Space and then selecting "Diagnostics"
- what is hardware version? You could also find it at "Diagnostics" in Acer's 3G connection manager
Will be glad to provide you some rep.points if you'll answer all the above -
But well, thats not surprise - as I already wrote, the original Acer's OS is the only working one for the launcher.
What I would like to knew from someone here is the way so set it up starting with the clean OS install (Vista or 7, 32 or 64 bit - doesnt matter). -
- i checked the "hardware Ids" under the "details" tab in the device manager and it said: OPTIONBUS\GTHSM_NET
- my initial firmware version was also 1.7.0, same as yours. i also updated it to the new 2.9.5 version now
- hardware version is 2.1 -
Some updates for you on my installation. Before I started 3G usage I cleaned my disk of the Acer OS - I installed the Win7 64Bit from a friend, beacause I am still waiting for my official Upgrade Version of Win7.
So my system is clean Win7 64Bit (no OEM OS) and I installed original Option Driver and Acer Launchmanager afterwards, so everything is in harmony now and all Notbbook Shortcuts are working (Launcher). -
-
- you bought 3810TG with preinstalled modem, right?
- what is the BIOS version you are using?
- could you please post the output of "Diagnostics" in Option's software in this thread?
- what version of launcher you've installed right after the option drivers?
- could you please check device ID of your 3G modem in "USB" section of Device Manager in Windows? -

I've found link to the Service Manual for 13" Timelines on the other forum.

Thou, for convenience I've uploded service guide (pdf) to rapidshare:
http://rapidshare.com/files/301504397/Aspire_3810T-3810TZ_Series_Service_Guide.pdf
file has been saved and can now be downloaded 10 times. It will be deleted after 90 days without download.
P.S. It should last longer on iFolder... -

Hey - can someone please re-upload the service manual - i was too late
Many thanks ! -
much appreciated! -
Got some new findings on compatability of 3G modems and the Launcher.
Restored back original Acer's 32-bit Vista, then uninstalled supplied Launcher and then installed launchers 2.0.05 and 3.0.05 from Acer's site. It worked! Combining to my prior experiment with clean 32-bit Vista, where it was not working, I came to the following conclusions:
- The fact I've installed modem myself is not a problem
- Launcher distribution from Acer's web is also not a problem
What remains and could be potential source of the probem? I think it could be:
- specific OS settings
- some Acer's drivers and/or software needs to be installed before installing the Launcher. I've tried to install Acer's modem drivers BEFORE launcher but it didnt help
- Incompatability of launcher with some patch included into VistaSP2 and obviously into Windows. I'm checking it now by installing SP2 over original Vista
Could please people who have it working in Win7 think a bit what it could be, based on your own experience and precise software installation order? -
Hey Maxim_fr,
as I already wrote - it has nothing to do with OS or so - just uninstall all Acer Stuff and uninstall all driver related to Globetrotter withing the device manager - do some rebooting - then install the original Option Open Connect 3 Software - it comes with 3G drivers included - then install the most recent Launcher from Acer website and you'll see it will work - I did it that way with Win7 64Bit - after many days of experimenting - it should also work with the Acer 3G driver from 4810TG - but I decided to stay with manufacturer software from Option.
Would you mind re-uploading the service manual?
Thnx -
-
Let me guess about the options:
1st) you bought your laptop already with Win7, and not Vista?
2nd) you somehow are able get Acers Win7 recovery DVDs?
3d) what you are doing not a clean install with formatting, but an UPGRADE from originally supplied Vista to Win7?
4th) some other option I cannot get a clue of
And please answer all my questions to you (asked yestarday) about you BIOS, etc. -
Maxim,
you're right - I mixed it up a bit. Sure I did a clean installation of Win7 64 Bit and installed all the Acer stuff. But that did not work, so I uninstalled all the Acer stuff and set it up with original Option software and again the Acer Launcher Software.
btw: your iFolder link does not work - there's no test, that says something abour the pdf nor the field to input 4 digits - maybe you see it because you have an account there ?
could you upload it on rapidshare again pls.? -
Sorry - some updates - I am using Bios 1.13

-
Hi Maxim,
here it is:
- you bought 3810TG with preinstalled modem, right?
YES-preinstalled modem
- what is the BIOS version you are using?
Bios is 1.13
- could you please post the output of "Diagnostics" in Option's software in this thread?
Output is:
Product Name: GlobeTrotter Connect
Product Version: 3.1.0.1107
Card name: GTM382
Driver version: 5.0.26.0
Port: COM3
Firmware version: 2.9.5.0Hd (Date: Jun 25 2009, Time: 16:52:40)
Hardware version: 2.1
- what version of launcher you've installed right after the option drivers?
Version is 3.0.05
- could you please check device ID of your 3G modem in "USB" section of Device Manager in Windows?
it says: USB\VID_0AF0&PID_7601&REV_0000
and USB\VID_0AF0&PID_7601
Hope this shelps you... -
Thank you! This info is really valuable...
Could you remember all the "Acer's stuff" you installed to your Win7 AND the installation order. I'll try to replicate your install-then-uninstall experience... -
Well, that Acer Stuff is not more than the 3G drivers from their webpage and the Launch Manager. I did install all the Acer 3G driver one after each other to see which one will work.
But, I think it would help you, if you just try my approach - uninstall the Acer driver and the USB, modem and Com drivers in device manager by hand - then reboot - windows will tell you, that it cannot find a 3G driver. Then instal the option driver and reboot - just to see if the hardware is beeing recognized corectly and working properly. After that install the Launcher. -
im telling you guys, its the DRIVER! win7 x64 + GTM382 + driver 5.0.26.0 + Acer launcher 3.0.0.5 = no problems
-
Launcher still fails to switch on-off 3G & Wifi.
And my setup is also very similar... the main diffrence is that I've installed my modem myself...
In Service Manual I've noticed that Acer supplied GTM382EL model 405 while I have GTM382E model 401. The only diffrence I see from Option's DS is that 405 lacks voice features that 401 have... but now we even share the same firmware. -
hi all,
still trying to figure out this bluetooth thing (or lack thereof) in my 4810tz us model.
here's the supposed part:
http://cgi.ebay.com/2.0-bluetooth-m...temQQimsxZ20090930?IMSfp=TL090930153006r18290
can anyone tell me if that goes in the vacant area in the top of the memory compartment. it seems to require a nonstandard cable so I'd need this particular OEM no? -
Hi pplz... having a problem here... After upgraded to my Windows 7. I "lost" my CD-ROM drive. Which driver did i miss? Thanks.
-
Nvm... problem solved... i installed all ACHI Drivers... xD
-
Hi!
Can't get the 3G to work on my 4810TG. Can't find it either. I had Vista preinstalled, but I installed win7 pro over it. No upgrade. Been reading this thread without luck. Can someone please answer these questions:
1. Where should I find the 3G modem in the Device Manager? Under "Network adapters" or "Universal Serial bus controllers" (as indicated in the post above)?
2. Can't find them there anyway. Do I need the AHCI driver installed in order to see it?
3. Do I need some other driver (except the modem driver itself) etc in order to find the 3G modem in device manager?
I cant activate it with the launch manager button either. Hope someone can help me.
Cheers,
Lars -
i had the same problem before i first installed my 3G modem. since i didnt even know what model i had (and thus didnt know which driver to install), i had to open up my laptop (via the keyboard) and check the 3G modem model myself. after that, i downloaded and installed the driver, which led the modem to finally show up in the device manager.
greetz
PS: Once its installed, it should show up both in the network adapter and USB sections -
Thanks dude, that was a really good idea. However, I did not find a modem there. I only found the Intel 5100 card which is the WLAN card, I guess. In one of the upper right slots. I also found that in the information pane in the bios meny, it says 4810T only. No G. I am starting to think that I have the 4810T model. Bummer. This is a job PC, so I cant give it back....
Thanks for answering anyway! -

Just got a 3810t but hdmi to dvi (lcd dell 2405fpw) displays no image. It works on my 46" lcd tv (hdmi to hdmi) but not on my monitor.
I'm using a dvi to hdmi cable.
Any ideas? -
as to the bluetooth issue, there is a whole thread revolving around updating timeline models with insternal dongles.

I got my Windows 7 upgrade to day for my 3810TZ. The upgrade went fine with no errors and everything seems good except the wireless speed. It's horrible.
I set the Timelime up next to my 3 year old Toshiba running XP and compared their wireless speeds with the Speakeasy Speed test.
The Toshiba consistently registered above 5000kbps.
The Timeline never got above 2000kbps.
Then I dug out an old Zonet wireless USB adapter and plugged it in. Even though it's not listed as Windows 7 compatible, the device manager found a good driver for it. I turned off the Atheros adapter on the laptop and the Zonet kicked in.
The Speedtest spit out a fine 5990kbps!
So am I correct in blaming the Atheros? Is it a bad driver? Is there something I can set or reset? I did try the troubleshooter and it basically said all is fine. Windows 7 says that the driver is up to date.
The driver details say the driver is provided by Atheros and is 2.0.0.74 built by WinDDk.
Any advice? tips? tricks?
Thanks,
Susan -
Check Windows Optional Updates for the driver.
It should be pushed down into your computer. -
Use the provided link for download.

Question about Epower. I uninstalled all the Epower programs, but why does the leaf still light up on battery power?
-
I just installed window's 7 and, I'm kind of regretting it. My battery life is only around 4-6 hours under real use, versus 6-8 when i had vista.
I installed the power manager, but it doesnt seem to help any.
have you guys noticed the same things as well?
