    Hi all, I'm new :p

I'm thinking of buying the Acer Aspire Timeline 3810TZG and I want to know if it's a good choice? I'll be bringing it in and out of college all the time so I want something fairly compact. However I do lots of multitasking and occasional gaming so the laptop would have to be able to keep up with that as well. At the moment I have a really slow 17.5" Lenovo and I really need a new laptop. It will be my main system so I want to make sure it will do everything I need it to before I buy it!

Also, does anybody have any recommendations for external cd/dvd drives since this model doesn't have an in-built one?

EDIT: I just noticed the website I'd be ordering the laptop from has the Acer Aspire Timeline 3810TG for the same price. It has an SU9400 as opposed to the SU4100 in the TGZ version, so am I right in thinking I'd be better getting the SU9400 since it's the exact same price?

I know they're old! :p I don't like FPSs very much though, and I have game consoles for all my other needs so it's only very light gaming I'd do on the laptop.

Hello, Back on page 183, there was someone that somehow unlocked a Insyde H20 bios to get all the settings. I need to do this for a HP dm3 laptop. I had to use a tool to unlock the bios password and now my wireless won't turn on because I believe it is not enabled in the bios. I think it is a hidden option. Can anyone help?

    Thanks,
    Doug

You don't need the Mobility Modder anymore. ATI releases drivers for the Mobility Radeons.

This is the 64-bit driver for Win 7.

The following notebooks are not supported in this release:

Any notebook launched after this driver release.
Switchable Graphics enabled notebooks using Intel chipsets.

I haven't tried them because of that

Can someone please tell me how to overclock the CPU??

The drivers work perfectly fine on my 5820TG (i5 450M). I just installed the Catalyst drivers provided by Acer and then I switched to "Discrete" graphics in BIOS and installed the Catalyst drivers from ATI over the old ones.

Hi guys, I want to change my 3810T BIOS from v1.20 to v1.17. I read that to do this in Windows, I would need to edit the file 'platform.ini' from:

    [Bios_version_check]
    flag=1

    to

    [Bios_version_check]
    flag=0

Which will allow the program to run the flash process.

I have a question however, because I see that there are two executable files on the Windows folder, InsydeFlash.exe and InsydeFlash64.exe or something along those lines (don't remember the exact names).

I assume that one is a 64 bit version of the application and one is a 32 bit version, but I'm not too sure.

Which program should I be using? I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit on my Acer 3810T.

Also, just as a side note, what can I do in case things go wrong?

I bought a Acer 3810T in July 2009. For some reason, there is a similar problem with charging (it happened overnight, when I left the computer running on the battery and was completly discharged). Now my battery indicator icon is flashing orange and the battery will not charge. It says 0% available (plugged in, not charging). I have tried power reset on it, tried another AC adapter - they do nothing. I have updated the BIOS from 1.04 to 1.27, didn't help. OS reinstall didn't work either (from Vista to 7) Is there something I should try more?

    Hey everyone.

Just bought myself a 3810tzg. Everything went well with setup and it had been running a couple of hours doing not much (installing programmes etc) when I walked out the room to return and find it switched off. I picked it up (it had been sitting on a laptop rest) to find the bottom scorching. Obviously auto-shutdown due to heat. I installed fanspeed and saw that my core temps were way high...came on here and I'm reading lots of comments about noisy fans then realised my comp is deathly silent...have a feeling the fan must be either broken or not being turned on for whatever reason. I can't find anyone else looking for ways to power UP their fan (given aforementioned noise issues) but does anyone know a way/have similar experience? I really don't want to have to return (hassle, and need comp for work) but since it's only one day old. i'm not too happy about problems already.

    Thanks for any input.

I have the 4810t with the suyin cam running win 7 ultimate x64

I noticed it doesn't work at times. You'll hear the windows hardware disconnect sound & then it doesn't work. I tried to restart after the first tim eit happened & got some sort of USB error message in relation to the camera. Could a connection possibly be loose? Sometimes when I reboot, the camera will work again for a while. I downloaded the latest driver from Acer, but the problem still persists. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi

A while back i saw a post in here, with a link to a bios-update with the possibility to turn off the big gfx cart on an Acer Aspire 3810tg. With the result that is makes less noise.

Can anyone give me som help to find it?

I have a Timeline 3810TZ unit w SU4100 & Intel 4500 gpu, 3gb ddr3 and 320GB drive. How can one allocate more memory to the integrated graphics, when I enter bios the gpu/integrated graphics memorycan not be modified.

I wonder if increasing allocated system memory can only be done if the system has 4gb total memory over the 1x1gb 1x2gb configuration.

Any ideas? I have flashed bios to Acers latest 1.28 and this has not changed anything. I would like to allocate more memory to the integrated graphics to improve HD720 & 1080P video output via HDMI port

Ok first of all hi. I've just got myself a nice little Aspire Timeline 3810TG-944G50n. Very small, nice and quick. However I've started having some issues with it and wondered if anyone could help.
I've tried looking up and found something in this forum called the "ATI suspend glitch" and I'm not sure if it is related to this issue.
Basically after using my laptop, randomly the screen will cut out. As in the screen is still backlit, I can still press and use the touch sensitive buttons on the panel and the laptop is still on but it just displays black. I try plugging a monitor into the HDMI and it says "no input detected".
Just wondering, is this a known, common issue or is my laptop screwed and it's time to contact Acer?
    Thanks for your time.

hi, i got another question about the new 1.28 bios.

an update from the old 1.17 to 1.20 (up to v1.27) changed the fan-behaviour too: with the 1.17 the fan is running only once in a while in battery mode, whereas while recharging the fan runs almost all the time.
if installed the 1.20 bios the fan is running almost all the time in both modes.

did one of you guys, using the new 1.28 bios, noticed an differences in this behaviour, means: is the fan still running all the time in recharging-mode?

    thanks for your help..

Yeah I want to know that, too.
I'm currently on 1.17 because the fan is driving me nuts anyway, so I wouldn't want it on all the time when in battery mode...
But I also need the battery-charging fix, so that I can load over 88%

    Hi!

I'm going to buy the 3820TG, but I'm not sure whether I should go for the one with 450M CPU or the one with 460M CPU. The 450M costs 915£, while the 460M costs 753£.

Other than the CPU and 180GB larger HDD I can't see any difference.

    Which one should I buy?

    Yes!!
The Bios for the 38x0 definitively need some work:

1° enable the INTEL ONLY mode in the 1.17 or 1.28 version, Avansys made the nice mod but I can only for the versions 1.27 and 1.20.

And obviously bringing the no fan on battery from the 1.17 version to the recent onces would be appreciated. Any one of these would greatly enhance the usability of the notebooks!

another forum user actually posted the modded 1.28 Bios HERE with (i) battery fix, (ii) fan fix to start spinning only at 52deg C and (iii) ability to select only ATI or intel gfx

however, his bios is for the travelmate 8371 which apparently is the same as the 3810TG.

But someone tried it and it could not flash.

    Any ideas?

Don't try to flash bios for 8731 on 3810 or you will brick your laptop. Also note that this 8731 BIOS is hybrid of modded bios 1.24 for 3810, regular 1.10 for 8731 and latest 1.28 for 8731. So battery fix and some other improvements won't work with this version.

    Hi advan,

is it possible to mod the fan table for 4810 bios too?
That would be very cool :)
I've tried to control the fan through manipulating the EC registers, but it doesn't seems to work on that damn 4810.
Is it also possible to unlock the sata II mode while on ahci?

    Thx

Do you know what EC is used in this model? It is possible if EC is the same as in 3810 (ITE8502).

I'm not sure because I didn't use this model. BIOS structure is very similar, so it may be possible.

Disassemble the laptop or look for photo or schematics.
Also chip name and version can be found in RW Everything Super IO window if it recognizes the EC

    UPD

According to scheme it is Winbond. See KBC item
