They have really improved the line of the 11.6". I like that line. It's very subtle. Plus, its Sapphire Blue! :D

Is that different from the 1830T?

Acer put a Core i7 variant in one of these please, otherwise Lenovo is calling my name.

I don't mean to rain on your parade, but I'll believe in an i7 in Lenovo U160 when I see it. Right now it's just vaporware. Asus UL30JT was also supposed to have an i7 yet it came out with an i5. All the other sub-13" ULV notebooks announced so far will have i3 or worse. Pathetic.

And I doubt Lenovo will simply let us customize the CPU when ordering on their website. Sure, they do it for Thinkpads, but Ideapads are in an entirely different price range. Check out U150: at least on Lenovo's US page, all you can "customize" is the warranty.

Last but not least, have you seen the pictures of U150 with a six-cell battery?

    (from this review)

Yuck! What's the point of making a thin chassis if the battery sticks out that much? I hope they'll do a better job with U160, but I'm not holding my breath...

^^^ You are kind of right, I like the design of the 1830T much better than the U160. I will wait for an 1830 version with a better processor than the 520um.

And here is the webpage for the new Lenovo U Series, the battery design seems better (unless they are showing a 3-cell).

Thanks for the link! It does indeed look that they redesigned the battery compartment for U160 and that it will be more similar to how it's done on Acer 18x0. That's certainly a welcome improvement. Let's hope they can deliver on other promises as well.

Acer 721 on amazon in the US :
11.6” Acer Aspire 721 Turns Up At Amazon

AMD powered, relatively cheap (430$) but no way to know what kind of battery life you'll be able to get (5h mentioned)... I sure hope that today's Acer announcement won't be about AMD ; we want some core i5 news please!!

    I have a question ...

I do a fair amount of field work and a week or so ago, had the opportunity to provide engineering drawings from my hard drive to site engineers who could not find their schematics. That probably saved a thousand bucks or so for time not lost waiting for the paper drawings to show up from the office. (I got a lot of pats on the back from the engineers. :D At least 2 wanted to know where I got my computer - I though engineers were more tech savvy) In working with the engineers I began to realize that a convertible tablet version of my 1410T would have been better to display the information and pass it around for viewing.

It seems to me that the tablet versions of the 11.6" timelines seem to lag the clamshell models in specs. Am I right? Does anyone think the 1830T will be released in tablet form? How about tablet versions of the old 1810T? I will probably only use the feature a few times a year, but it is really nice to have when you need it. I don't want anything heavy and would like to stay with the Acer 11.6" size and weight.

Still happy with my 1410T, but seriously considering the move to a convertible tablet. Thoughts?

530 euros before tax (seems more reasonable but still too high for a core i3)
and two weeks before it's in stock...

I'm starting to wonder if they'll ever be sold... I guess that Computex might bring some answers (if they don't focus on Revo or Tablets or whatnot).

Actually I wonder about it too! Btw 62 pages wasted for a computer still not on the market. My suggestion is to drop this model and to wait for a real new model with core i7-640um, BT3, USB3 and 1.3webcam..!

The 6th picture (disassembled) from top shows that 1830t contains 2 cards in its 2 PCIe slots one of them is half so must be wireless card. I am now thinking what could be the other card, probably internal 3G?

The 7th picture also shows the presence of sim insertion module. I can not find which specific configuration of 1830t this is. But these are signs of good things. Hopefully acer will not remove the second PCIe slot and sim insertion module this time. And will also leave an extra antenna in the notebook for future use.

So, $799 for the Core i5-520UM version? Don't care about this too much anymore, way more excited to see what Acer does with Sandy Bridge. I expect up to 10-11 hours of battery life in the 1840(?).

Perhaps, but the differences are minimal. The i5-430um lacks VT-d, AES New Instructions, and Trusted Execution Technology (compared to the i5-520um). So $699 for a current generation i5 is pretty attractive to me (vs $599 for a SU7300 in the 1810).

I don't have something in hand currently (such as the 1810) so waiting for Sandy Bridge is too long. And yet I can't bring myself to buy an 1810 with the 1830 around the corner. The SU7300 vs i5 um is much more compelling in favor of the i5 (even if it means waiting a little longer).

    Produkte

official configs for the aspire one 721 (11'6 with the same chassis as the 1830) :
    Windows® 7 Home Premium , AMD® Athlon™ II Neo K125 (1.70GHz, 1MB L2 Cache), 29,5 cm (11,6") WXGA (1366x768) Acer CineCrystal™ TFT LCD, LED-Backlight, 200-nit , ATI Radeon HD 4225, 2GB DDR3 RAM, 250GB S-ATA, WLAN 802.11bgN, 4400 mAh Li-Ion Akku (6 Zellen), HD Webcam

the only option available is the 4 different colors. It's a "light" version of the upcoming 1551 (which is itself like an 1830 but with an AMD processor).

I would love to be, the problem is I must have an ultra-light in-hand no later than June 21. I may end up with an 1810t days before the 1830t or Lenovo u160 becomes available. I'm considering a Toshiba T115 for around $450 that I can dump on ebay in a couple of months and replace with an i5um at hopefully only $100 loss or so.

Same for me. I need to have something in-hand by the end of June, which means I may have to order within the next 2-3 weeks at the latest. I'd just hate to miss out on an upgrade from a C2D to an i5 plus the 3G option because it took them a few extra days to launch this thing or worse yet, have it launch during the week it takes to order and deliver an 1810T.

shoot, just realized the model code is for the U5400, not the 520UM....

Several chinese sites have initial prices ranging from 6000yuan to 6700yuan...translates to about $900-$1000

    Not too encouraging...

The Intel HD might be better, but I'm not sure if the 1,2Ghz U5400 is better than the 1,3Ghz SU7300, the U5400 has neither turbo nor HT, and the VT is also missing. The real difference seems to be the DDR3-800 vs. the DDR2-667, but that's no much of a big deal.

The thing is that the real "replacement" for the SU7300 would be the i5-520UM, but that CPU will be much more expensive, if the U5400 which is the replacement for the SU4100 is almost €100 more expensive.

Despite the lower clockspeed and missing features, the U5400 will be faster than your SU7300 due to the architecture upgrades gained from Westmere. The U5400 is definitely not worth upgrading to from an SU7300, but it is faster.

I think the i3 is the replacement for the 4100. I owuld gladly pay 7300 prices for the i3 model, or $50 more for the i5. Holding off to the 15th to 18th will be risky for me, as I mush have a computer in hand on the 21st of June.

Agreed. Amazon.com has been showing the 1810T with the SU7300 from Electronica Direct for about $650. Newegg recently stopped taking orders for the 1810T which was about $699 + $13 shipping, which tells me they must be getting ready to start carrying the 1830T (hopefully!)

I don't mind paying ~$700 or even a little more to have the best 11.6" on the market with an i5-520um, but they really need to get this thing out the door because clearly I'm not the only person who's running out of time to keep waiting.

your link doesn't work for me. Here's what I found about the 1830T in the forum you linked to :

    8СʱÐøº½i5о ºê»ù1830TÃÔÄã±¾ÆÀ²â - acerºê»ù±Ê¼Ç±¾µçÄÔµ¼¹º - IBM±Ê¼Ç±¾µçÄÔ_IBM±Ê¼Ç±¾¼Û¸ñ_IBM±Ê¼Ç±¾µçÄÔ±¨¼Û_ѾѾÊýÂë

you'll have to translate it yourself though, or use google chrome.

edit : Interesting! It's about the core i5 model and there are new pics (at least they are new to me)! Thanks!
