try looking up the GigabyteM1125. also a few months down though.

I saw that anounced a week or so ago. Looks interesting too.

Will there ever be a 11.6" laptop that can play current games at atleast Medium Settings... ??
Or is there actually one out there....??? -
If you consider the M11x an 11.6" ... there already is. There is also the Ferrarri 1 concept that uses an XGP port. Fujitsi has one as well and actually makes the external card holder. MSI also has an external GPU comming to market that will interface with a small unit via a PCI slot and eventually a USB 3.0 slot. Other than that, I don't know of any others with dedicated GPUs that are powerful enough for serious gaming.

Lenovo U160 is finally out in the US on Lenovo's own website... i5 and i7, starting at 1000$...
Also : acer 753, with an Intel Celeron U3400 ULV processor, 11.6” 1366 x 768 display, Intel HD graphics, HDMI out, up to 4GB DDR3 RAM, 640GB HDD, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and optional Bluetooth / 3G.
Available in Spain though... It's a lower-end version of the 1830T.

Would love an I7-640UM. Hate the Lenovo cover design (time to go metal Lenovo? or maybe just matt black?). Also, for ~$1200, you think you would get something faster than a 5400 rpm HD.
Here's my ideal 11.6" for now ... I7-640UM, Ion 2, Optimus, (maybe convertible tablet), 720p display, 320GB 7200rpm HD, USB 3.0 for > $1,000. Am I asking too much? Sure I am.

Also there's the hp tablet t2m with su9600 and switchable graphics. It's a 12.1" and I would have gotten it from the hp store if they allowed Canadian credit cards! That's the only place to get that model that I found. I researched the product and all the complaints ie the touch screen had delayed response, have fixes. It won some awards and last I looked there were $300 off coupons floating around
here's one I just found

Alienware M11x 11.6" gaming laptop now with Core i7 processor! -
TheDudeComputes Notebook Consultant
OK,
I put in an order for a very expensive i7 u160 last night, but my ship date has slipped to 6/24 and I need the machine in-hand by 6/21. I think I am going to have to cancel the order and go ahead with an 1810 that I may replace later. -
HP tm2t ( convertible ) is coming with core i3/i5/i7 UM, switchable 5450, 1280x800 Multitouch n wacom digitizer, 500GB 7200rpm ( no USB 3.0 possibly ) and will come around $1000
( End of june / july )
I'm sincerely waiting for that one. I think I might get an SSD to replace the HDD.
Sorry for talking HP in Acer forum folks but Bronsky needed to know.

I bet in the fall i7 powered 1830's will come out.

This looks very interesting. It is a bit heavier than I would like but it has almost everyting else on my wish list.

Just saw a release date for the AMD platform : july 8th. This time it's showing up on cyberport.de :
Acer Aspire One 721 silber AthlonII-K125 2GB/250GB 29,5 cm (11,6") HD n W7HP64
Acer Aspire One 721-K125 silver
AthlonII 2GB/250GB 29.5 cm (11.6 ") HD n W7HP64
No. 1E07-19C [Herst.Nr.: LU.SB302.169]
AMD AthlonII Neo K125 (1.7 GHz) processor
29.5 cm (11.6 ") HD 16:9 LCD Display (glossy), Webcam
2 GB DDR3 RAM, 250 GB hard drive, Card Reader
ATI Radeon HD4225 (384MB), HDMI, WLAN-n
1.4 kg, battery life max. 5, 7 Windows Home Premium 64 Bit
11.6 "lightweight with bright LED display in silver.
The battery sucks but it IS priced accordingly (first realistic pricing if you ask me!) : 399 euros!
I wonder if they'll ever release the actual 1830T ; all I can find is related to lower-end models... Like someone said in the Arrandale forum, it's really starting to feel like watching paint dry....... At least it's proving to be entertaining with you guys around! -
Acer Aspire TimelineX 1830T-52U4G32n | ARLT Computer
899 Euros....no likey...
EDIT: 799 euros...still no likey... -
The new tm2t is gonna be .5lbs less at approx 4.2lbs.
-
I found the thread on the tablet site. Anything on this site under the HP threads? Is it scheduled to be released with the Envy 14? The I7-640UM looks to be unconfirmed at this point - or am I wrong.
Better weight is nice. I do a lot of field work and the tablet form is attractive to me. Was at an excavation the other day and would have loved to have a tablet to work with the engineers.
Thanks.
Bronsky
-
I see 799 Euros at the link you posted, though that still seems high.
-
Hahaha lol
Too many unuseful words, speculations and wasted bandwith of the forum server.
I suggest to close this topic until this model will really be on the market, as well as benchmarks
-
Nope, I searched and found a couple of inactive threads about tm2t. I guess the one on the tabletpc site is the only active one. As of now, there are speculations of i5 UMs ( and i3 UM has already been listed in Amazon ). Personally, I think HP will list i7 UM as option in the ordering page. Although, I'd choose i5 UM for better battery and much less price. IMHO, the extra 150-200$ aren't worthy for the performance ( few Mhz clocks n Turbo ).
-
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
There is no proof the i7 uses more battery over an i5. -
I would order the I7-640UM if it was available over the I5-540UM. IMHO, it is well worth the extra cost.
Bronsky -
Because there isn't any notebook running i7 UM yet.
-
I don't think this was posted yet but Acer's US site has the 1830 page up now and currently lists the i3-330um configuration but has specs for the i5-430um too.
Aspire 1830
Hmm looks like it lists a 65W adapter. The current 1410/1810 uses a 30W one which, while it charges slowly, is great for the size/weight. Anyone else seeing a different adapter for the 1830?
Gaidin -
I thought there is Fujitsu P770?
-
You are correct. And so is Jayayess1190.
Bronsky
-
Finally, thanks for the post. It also identifies LED backlit display. Something I didn't realize it would have. Curious indeed that it only lists the i3-330um configuration despite describing an i5 option. I suppose the i3-330um would be adequate. It only gives up Turbo Boost which doesn't do much for me. How about others? Is Turbo Boost a factor for you?
-
I hadn't noticed. This must have just gone up on the US site today. (Yes, I actually do check everyday...I want an 1830T that badly.)
Glad to know it's finally confirmed for the US. I just wonder how much longer until pricing and availability... -
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
Core i3-330UM also missing:
- Virtualization
- AES New Instructions
- Trusted Execution Technology
The i5-430UM adds turbo boost but is also missing that stuff. Personally, if I wasn't waiting till the Sandy Bridge 1840T, I'd go for the best processor I could get in this, which would so far be the i5-430UM or 520UM. -
May be true, but many (most) users will gain very little from any of that. Hell my little SU3500 can compile small enterprise web apps while running a full development stack, multiple web browsers. Oh yeah, I'm streaming music while all that stuff it going on.
My dual core Dell does compile projects a little faster, but on average we are talking just a few seconds. Not a big deal to me. That's why I'm also going to hold off on the 1830. I don't see the need to pay a premium for new technology when what I have is working so well. Plus I like my laptops to be netbook cheap.
-
Actually Both the i3-330UM and i5-430UM have "virtualization" which is normally referred to as VT-t and both are missing VT-d which is a newer, additional hardware virtualization feature. It's unfortunate that you need to step up to the i7-640UM (or similar) CPU to get these newer instructions enabled. You would think the AES-NI would be pushed out everywhere on mobile CPUs to help with full disk encryption (though you could also make an argument that it's the higher end CPUs that will go into corporate laptops that require FDE).

Ok so I need a machine in-hand on June 20-- was really hoping to get the 1830T, but it's looking like vaporware at the moment.
The only 11.6" i3/i5 machines available seem to be the insanely overpriced Lenovo IdeaPad U160 and Acer's TravelMate TM8172.
The 8172 is available now for <$600 with an i3-330UM, 11.6" WXGA LED, 2GB DDR3, 250GB, 6-cell battery. Case dimensions are nearly identical to the 1830T (thinner at the thinnest point (20.2 vs. 25.7 mm), slightly thicker at thickest (29.1 vs. 28.0 mm)), weight is slightly less than the 1830T (2.97 vs. 3.1 lb), and it includes a 40W AC adapter (vs. 65W).
Main difference looks like the lack of an HDMI port (VGA only), possibly a matte screen (vs. glossy in 1830T), and a Crystal Eye HD (1280x1024) webcam (vs. 640x480 in 1830T), though the latter could just be a spec typo. The OS is also Windows 7 Professional instead of Home Premium.
Is the only other difference that the 8172 has a boring case design? Anyone know if the TravelMate branding actually means anything as far as build quality, etc.? -
Exactly! If the choices Acer provides us are i3-330um and i5-430um, I'm not sure there is much of a discriminator. Maybe the configuration of the i5-430um overall will be better (e.g. 4GB RAM, 500G hard drive). Any other opinions on Turbo Boost?

Seems like 1830T with U5400 cost around $574 in Malaysia...

Yeah, My bad. I actually heard about the fujitsu one.
I have toi check some reviews.

Are the only 11" ones with switchable graphics as well as i core processor the Dell m11x r2 and the hp t2mt refresh? Want to make sure I have considered all the options. Anyone know of any others coming soon?
-
hi, as i search google nowadays everyday for new entries bout the 1830, i always landed on this page, and reading it for weeks. so i registered today, coz:
today i had the 1830 (with i3) in my fingers. i was able to compare it in a store directly with the 1410 (with 743) and 1810 (dual) and i was amazed. it was the black model. the cover looks awesome, and the price differences here in switzerland between those models (CHF 600 for the 1410, CHF 850 for the 1810 and CHF 999 for the 1830) makes it easy to choose the 1830 model. (even though i believe the swiss-franc is really expensive at the moment compared to other currencies).
as i need this one only for travel i wait till my next travel and hope that maybe prices get a little bit lower. i dont mind the i5 or i3, i wouldnt even bother to buy the 1810, but the look and feel of this black devil is just so much cooler.
so all what im still waiting for is a comparable battery test. e.g. on notebookcheck . i need my 3 hours divx/streamn watching and +5 hours wifi websurfing. 1810 was able to do it. i really think there is no question that 1830 hold that long, but after my disaster with my quickly bought and sold again hp dm3 (10 hours promised, but only 1 hour videostream watching) i want a representative test.

TheDudeComputes Notebook Consultant
You can not get a U160 by 6/20. The shipping release date is 6/24. I ordered on the 7th (day they went on site, I may have been order #1) and I just canceled and ordered a refurb Dell 11z from the outlet with the coupon: 8K?B4DQM3S9WVJ for 15% OFF. I need it for a trip starting 6/24 and will sell it when I get back (possibly for more than the $330 I spent) and get an i5 or i7 later this summer. -
8172 also comes with only 2 GB RAM vs 3 GB for 1830T. Seems like a simple enough upgrade to do on your own, but only until you realize that they put 32-bit Windows on it -- why, oh why would one do it in 2010?!
Well, TravelMate is in principle their "pro" line, as opposed to the "home" Aspire line. I can't comment about the quality of the current offering, but I bought a TravelMate some seven years ago and when it arrived, I was so worried about the shoddy quality of the keyboard that I bought a warranty extension because I was pretty sure I would need it. Well, I used that machine daily for three years, gave it to my brother who used it as his main system for another three years, and now my parents use it. None of us ever had a single problem with it in all those years. -
Hi everyone, I've finally registered here after following this thread since beginning of May when I heard about the 1830t.
I'm looking to get this thing--the i5 model--before July 10th. Really, really crossing my fingers as I'm traveling for two months after that and would love to bring this thing along. Otherwise I'm stuck with my six year old Dell Inspiron 600m...
But a quick question or two: I thought I was reading that at least one configuration of this system was coming with 4 gigs of memory, but now I'm seeing only 3 gigs on the website? Also, what do you guys think are the chances that the i5 will come out before the 10th? Do you think there'll be an i7 11.6? I might even wait for that....but I know it won't happen before the 10th of July...
Thanks! -
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
Europe getting U5400 and i3-330UM 1830T's, so where are the i5-430/520UM and up models? Not out till fall/winter? And only 6 months to Sandy Bridge...
Also weird they are the same price and the Core i3 model comes with 3GB ram while the U5400 has 4GB. -
acer 1830t has only mirror display, better with matte display. badly with mirror.
-
so, no core i5 AND not available before august/september?!?!?
Also, 4gb ram and 500gb hdd for the U5400 and only 3gb ram and 320gb hdd for the core i3 ???
Acer, I am disapoint.
source : Google Translate
maybe I'll finally settle for the 1551 with its radeon 4225... if it ever comes out that is... -
It might be 6 months to Sandy Bridge, but probably more like 12 months to Sandy Bridge ULV. After all, that was the case with Arrandale.
-
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
Who knows, ulv might not even matter. Sandy Bridge will be bringing down the power usage a lot, we might be looking at 35W top for quad cores and 25W top for dual cores. -
The quads will look a lot more attractive then.
-
acer's being pretty lame with this. I didn't want to post hoping it was some translation error but I came across a few other foreign sites that say that the 2 models will be available. Pentium and i3. Also pushed to August/September..
Edit: e-mailed ARLT with the help of a translator asking for clarification on their IN STOCK status of the i5 version...or if anyone here is in Germany, give them a ring or something. If these rumblings are true about the 1830's being pushed till aug, sept, i might just buy this german one. -
Now I'm confused...is the 1830 pushed back Worldwide or will it be available in Germany from 18/06, as seen on Amazon.de?
