By the way...which one would be better:
1810T with SU7300 and 3G for €620 or
1830TZ with U5400 and no 3G for €599?
I'm still not convinced that the U5400 will be better than the SU7300...it has no turbo or HT...is the arrandale microarchitecture clock to clock faster without any of its gimmicks than the Core2?

still, 799 euros seems way overpriced... -
Sandy Bridge will have its own challenges coming to market. You can believe 6 months if you'd like but the reality is it almost always takes longer than the estimates. I'm not saying don't wait 6 months. I'm just saying don't expect NewEgg and Amazon to have lots of options (if any) when Sandy Bridge is "released". Released dates and products available in market are two different things (as we're seeing with the ULV i3's and i5's). -
*I should note that the only 1830T configuration listed on the US Acer site is with an i3 ULV but that is not a big deal for me.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -

The Core i3-330UM version (1830T-33U2G25N) is since yesterday widely available via many webshops in the Netherlands, as you can see here: Acer Aspire TimelineX 1830T-33U2G25N prijzen | Core | Tweakers.net Pricewatch
However, I'm very dissapointed that nobody is offering the i5-520UM version (1830T-52U4G32n), because that is the machine that I'm waiting for.
Since the Dutch site of Acer is only showing the 1830T with the i3-330UM processor I have a bad feeling that it could take a long time before the i5 version will come available in Holland. -
Finally, LG looks like it is starting to wake up and look at more power in its beautiful small and light units. Competition for the 1830T? About time that the designer of the nearly perfect P310 and revolutionary P100 tablet (with 8600M GT) got back into the game. Now make me one with an I3-350M, an HD 5470 and tablet capabilities (a modern version of the LG P100).

There is a new model of the 1830 being anounced as well? 1830Z? is this old news?

One question guys:
I've considered buying a 1830T for like... 4 months now and waited and waited and now that they're finally there I'm not too sure if they're really that great of an advancement over the 1810T and if I shouldn't wait for the Sandy Bridge? or what it's called. But that set aside:
I was on the train today and wanted to work with my standard big screen laptop and I realized for the first time how TY a glossy display is and how restricted to certain environments you are with it. So my question would be: Is there any serious alternative to the 1830T in terms of size and performance and overall quality which does have a MATTE screen?
Would be cool if some of you knew.

SO I guess ARLT does have actual 520um machines. But now that bronsky linked that T280.....dunno which seems better -
Edit: But I would imagine that it will have a kickin' display.

Hi, Everyone! I've been lurking in this thread for a while. Thanks for all the great posts. I was interested in the 1830t but then saw the Acer 721 at Amazon.com and decided to get it, as I just need a basic, light computer for travel (it's not my main laptop).
I got the 721 on Saturday and so far really like it. Very slim and quiet and decent performance. Battery life is only just okay. I'm guessing 3.5 hours typical use.
I was interested to see from the PDF zooster posted that the i5 1830t got a 1279 in 3Dmark06. I tested my 721, and it scored 1235, so very similar. The i5's CPU score was a lot higher, though, as the 721 is a single core CPU. Still, it does play WoW on med-low settings at 30+ fps, so that's good for when I'm on the go.
My only issue with the 721 is that I want to add another stick of RAM (it's got a free slot) but for the life of me I can't get the hard disk/RAM cover door off. I loosen all the screws but something's still holding it down in the middle. If anyone else ever gets one of these and has some advice, let me know! -
-
seems like the T280 with a C2D had been out here. Better go to a store and check it out. No new news about the 1830T i5....all I'm finding is i3 this and 1830Z that....
EDIT: aaaannnnd ARLT is no longer showing it on their website...things are looking grim... -
Although it has a 13" screen instead of a 11,6" screen the MSI X-Slim X360 looks like a good alternative for the Acer 1830T and Lenovo U160. Does anybody know when the X360 might come available? The different sites state June, but I do not know how reliable that information is.
-
Anyway, those holding out for an i5 based machine probably want a bit more CPU power, but if you're looking for a machine with a similar chassis and 3D performance that's also very inexpensive, the Acer Aspire 721 is working out great so far. -

Please note, the Travelmate does not have a HDMI output. These systems have a docking connector instead. The optional docking station has a couple of connectors including DVI-D.

First the LG T280 was anounced and now HP has anounced more possible competition for the 1830T. HP is producing an 12.1" Probook 5220M business class ultraportable. It will be configured with an I5-450UM, 4GB DDR3, a 7200rpm or 80GB SSD drive, 6 cell battery, a 12.1" 1280x800 display (16:10?) and weigh 3.5 lbs. The 5220M is being released in Japan at the moment and costs ~ $760 USD.
??HP HP Directplus ??????
How many more competitors will be anouncing new units before the 1830T is actually posted for sale in the US?

Hi All,
Long time lurker, first time poster
The Highschool I work at is looking to purchase a bulk load (~450) of notebooks, after a long period of testing different netbooks and notebooks, we settled on the Acer 1830T, we are aussie based, and the shipment date for the 1830T is still a few months off.
The local Acer reps have given us a demo 1430 unit, which on paper and in the flesh appears the same as a 1830T except lacking a 3G module and has a lower specced battery (6Cell 4400mAh 49Wh Part# AL10C31).
Now, my issue with the unit comes down to battery life, I haven't had a good chance to test the battery of the 1430, but on paper its only rated at 6hours.
The fear will be not getting a full school days (7 hours~) charge out of them, and ethier having to supplement them with a spare battery or provide some kind of charging space.
Question: Does anyone know or could guess weather the batteries will be interchangeable between the models (a la 1410 - 1810 - 1810TZ) this may be an option to purchase a lot of 1830 batteries (5800mAh).
Thanks a alot! -
I'm guessing they will be interchangeable. And for the record, I believe that's it's best to bank on 1.5 to 2 hours LESS battery life than what Acer claims if you are going to actually use the computer. That said, I would think that you should have no problems making your computer last a full day if you suspend of even just turn off the display (close the lid) whenever you can. Especially if you get your hands on a 5800mAh unit.
-
So the Athlon II Neo K125 in the Acer 721 appears to be a bit better than an Intel Core Solo SU3500. And the HD 4225 3DMark06 score is nearly double an Intel 4500MHD, and is comparable to Intel HD graphics (according to zooster's PDF). Battery life is probably slightly less than Intel. All in all, AMD Nile appears to be a pretty good platform!
Oh, as for heat and noise...the Acer 721 is very quiet. When surfing the web, the fan is all but inaudible. When playing a game, it's a low, soft whoosh. The computer gets warm but not hot. Right now, after 1.5 hours of web surfing, the CPU is 55C. I must say, for the money ($429) it seems great. -

Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
From an M11x thread, the 640UM gets a 5.7 for cpu score in WEI. My SU9400 gets a 4.2. Nice upgrade, so the 520UM should get 5.4 or so?
-
-
EDIT: I also wanted to add that I can't find any real reviews of the Acer 721 and it has been available for purchase for over a week. What's up with that?
I am up in the air about which I want to purchase... the 1810tz or the Acer 721. I really like the ATI 4225 with DEDICATED video memory in the 721, but I also want a netbook that gets at least 5 hours realistic web/general use (for college). The 1810tz is really nice, long battery life, etc... but the Intel Graphics leave a little to be desired for gaming purposes. -
The 1810tz also has 4GB of RAM and a dual core processor, not single core like the Acer 721 (though the 721 is clocked higher). The graphics in the Acer 721 are twice as good, though. So the 721 definitely has superior graphics, but if battery life is your primary motivator, looks like you'd better go for the 1810tz.
Alternately, get a 721 and buy a bigger battery when/if available. Or, wait for the 1830t, which should have both good battery life and decent graphics. Good luck with your decision!
EDIT: The HD 4225 video memory isn't exactly dedicated. From what I can tell, 256MB of system RAM is reserved for the video card. There is also a 128MB (or maybe 64MB depending on what I read) side-port memory on the graphics card, for a total of 384 video memory. Plus, the video card will share additional system RAM as needed and available. Going from 2GB of RAM to 3GB of RAM on my system definitely improved my WoW performance by 5+ fps. -
Yeah, if real world battery performance on the 721 is 3.5 hours, I will have to look elsewhere. Unless that 5600mAh battery really improves it a lot... does anyone have any predictions on what that would do here? Is that available yet?
EDIT: I wasn't thinking, this is sort of derailing the original point of the thread. Runemark, perhaps you want to start a new thread about the Acer 721 and post your experience there. I don't want to off the mods, but you are the first person I have been able to find that has actually used one. And I have been searching the web very hard for the last week or so. -

Did I read correctly that Acer had prodcued a "G" version of the 1810T? There was an 11.6" 1810TZG with dedicated graphics? Were any of these ever sold in the US? How many were made - 1?

? I just ran 3Dmark06 on my 2 weeks old 1810TZ and scored 585 and 1149 in CPU test. My spec is SU4100 and 4GB Ram.... Should have bought 721 apparently

Just placed an order from Provantage.
"Your Internet order is in the process of being verified by an order reviewer."
I just gave it a shot cause I saw i5 but turns out it's the 430UM.....oh well, see what happens... -
Ok, its available in Germany...
1830t - i5-520UM - 800€
1830t - i5-430UM - 700€
1830t - i3-330UM - 650€
1830tz - U5400 - 550€
They are quite more expensive than the 1810t, which is currently available for 620€ with 3G, which is worth about 100€ if it has to be purchased separately. So its even cheaper than the 1830tz! -
11 different models, and some seem to be in stock! -
