Hey guys, Dave from Germany here!
I got a request for the 721 owners!
Could you please do a PC VirtualMark Benchmark test??
ORB - Hardware Prices and Performance
That would be great help for me!
I recently ran my current notebook (oldtimer) through and got a "0Virtual Marks"!!!
Ok, i have to mention that my Fujitsu Siemens AMILO PRO V2035 is a 5 years old notebook!
Specs:
Intel Pentium Celeron M 1.5 Ghz
1 Processor Core @ 100 Mhz FSB
VIA S3 UniChrome Pro
1280 MB DDR1 RAM @ 266 Mhz
So "technic profs", would you say, to purchase a new acer aspire one 721 would be a great improvement?
I just need my notebook for multitasking (browsing, office, media player) and hd video content, NOT for playing games (maybe just StarCraft 2, hehe).
I hope you guys can help me out made the right decision!!! -

well, I'm about an hour away from breaking down and ordering an ASUS UL30VT-X1K Thin and Light 13.3-Inch Laptop
Amazon.com: ASUS UL30VT-X1K Thin and Light 13.3-Inch Laptop with Kindle for PC
Same price, as the vapor-ware 1830 i5, longer battery, G210M, 11 hour battery, aluminum case, turbo-mode to crank up the su7300. I prefer 11.6", but man, this one is nice. Most importantly, if I order in the next few hours I can get it by monday.
I tried, I was holding out, but Acer is taking forever. -

If I was to order a laptop in Germany I would know what to get:
Acer 1830T with i5-520UM and 320 GB - E799,-
Lenovo U160 with i7-620UM and 500 GB - E799,-
Easy choice -
edit: The ncix specs are bunk, but I hope someplace will carry the larger battery. -

Core i5-430UM 1830T is overpriced. I mean, I would still buy it, but really Acer should drop prices back to what they where when the SU4100/SU7300 1810 first came out.

Thanks for the heads up! I've been desperately looking to get a 1830T pretty much since I've heard about it. I need something in the 11-12 inch range to replace my netbook (a Samsung N110 that I LOVE) which I use for several hours a day at my local cafe, with something that doesn't choke on half of the web videos out there and has the power and resolution to let me do some coding work in visual studio.
I tried a 1810T but it had a bad keyboard with some of the arrow keys not working. I've also tried a UL20A (loose keyboard panel) and a Toshiba T115 (bad screen), and considered a Lenovo U150 until I heard heat is a serious problem for some people. My 1830T unit arrives here on Tuesday =) I can't wait! -
Has anyone ordered the 1830T from Amazon US with the i5 in it yet? This is the model I've been waiting for, but I'm hesitant to order right away since there's a "1-2 month" back-order on it. Seems to me that I might as well wait if it's going to be that long before they ship any of them anyway. I'm just curious if the 1-2 months listed seems to be accurate or if anyone has ordered one and seen it ship out or ready to ship within a week or so.

Do anyone know if the batteries from the 1830t and the 1551 are interchangeable? Acer seems to have crippled all the AMD based systems with a 4400mAh battery.
I was all set to get the i3 version but runemark's review of his 721 has me thinking I would prefer the 1551-5448. Im not sure how the um processors will fare with 166Mhz graphics card since it cant turbo if the cpu is at full throttle and I know exactly how the ATI card will fare.
For the price difference I can buy another battery without spending much more and get better graphics performance, at least thats what I am thinking..... -

But more seriously, I too was thinking about the 1551 for its radeon 4225. I just don't care for Intel graphics, and I would really like to have at least some games running on my 11'6 Acer. -
I like the idea of the better graphics in an 11.6".

Anyone have cpu benchmarks/performance numbers on
i3-330um
i5-430um
AMD Althon II Neo K625
and a SU7300 just for baseline comparison?
I'm not as concerned with graphics performance, although it would be nice. Just wondering which of the acer thin and lights will gimme enough bang for my buck.
I want the i5, but 1-2 months is too long a wait, I hope that's just placeholder on Amazon.com -
I really just need something significantly faster than a netbook, and anything from an SU2300 and above will probably be fine by me performance wise, as long as it's got a nice form factor and gets all the basics right. (not too warm, not too heavy, ok battery life and so on...) I was very impressed by the 1810T I tried and would have opted for a replacement for the keyboard had I not known the 1830T was on the horizon. I've been spoiled by the matte finish of my Samsung N110 and had so far been resistant to having to compromise for surfaces that are glossy to the touch in more expensive and powerful units. The matte finish on the 1830T is something I'm actually quite excited about. According to this comparison the only difference between the i3-330UM and the i5-430UM is turbo mode? That would be a nice extra to have, but I'm so very tired of waiting and as long as performance is decent I'd rather focus on battery life anyway. Plus, I know the difference between $600 and $700 dollars is not that significant, but the psychology of it for me is such that I don't feel I'm departing as far from netbook prices with the former as with the latter, seeing as money isn't as forthcoming as it used to be.
forgot to mention, Amazon shipped it today and I'm actually getting it tomorrow! sweet! -

Just ordered my i3-330um 1830T from Amazon. We'll seen when it ships.
Strange that it only comes with 3GB of RAM but perhaps they are trying to justify the extra $100 for the i5 config. The i3 version also has a smaller hard drive but I figure I'll be updating it to the 500 GB Seagate Momentus XT drive when it gets restocked on the shelves (appears to be out of stock everywhere). -
Me too..
Just ordered the TimelineX AS1830T-3721 i5-430um at $699 from ~Amazon for my wife.
If its good when it arrives in August, I'll order another and eBay my little 1810tz.
BTW... if you are bargain hunting, the award-winning ~Asus 12.1" UL20A-A1 with the
fast SU7300 cpu is $539.99 at JR.com minus 5% Bing cash back makes it
$512 delivered and no tax taken for most states.
Microsoft Bing cash back stops on July 30th, BTW -
what's ridiculous, at least I think, is that the 330UM and 430UM were released Q2 and the 520UM was released Q1 yet no 520UM machines, not even for pre. If anything, there should be a 540UM also since that's Q2 also.
Compare Intel® Products,
wt f is Acer doing? assuming all's fine on Intel's end. -
Curious, is the only difference between the 3820 and 1830 model the screen size? Specs appear to be similar otherwise (same CPU options, RAM, hard drives, etc)?

Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
- Integrated graphics only on the 1830T, and they run slower than the integrated on the 3820
- Slower cpu's with slower Turbo Boost speeds on the 1830 (the 1830 and 3820 do not have the same cpu options)
- Ram runs at 800MHz vs 1066MHz on the 3820
- 3820's webcam is better

Looking on the web, seems like the CPU-mark score for the
SU7300 is 980
i3-330um CPU-mark score is 1200
Dunno if it scales linearly, but that seems like a modest improvement. -
Looks like you got your new puter today!
That is a modest improvement. Thanks for posting nirslsk!
I see that the K625 has a cpu passmark score of 982 so it does have quite a bit more CPU muscle than the AMD version - as I would expect. Probably less heat too!
Now, we are on pins and needles for the WOW framerates! -
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
My 3810T scores are higher (except 3D graphics), SU9400 cpu and Intel 160GB SSD. Also your 1830 has 3GB ram vs 4GB in my 3810T:Attached Files:

The SSD is cheating.
CPU mark looks 20 points lower than the I3-330UM.

and I have to say, it really is the holy grail of powerful netbook-replacements. As I've mentioned in the past I tried a number of entries in the size category, the UL20A, the Toshiba T115, the 1810T, and this one gets almost everything right. To start with the good, it is bleeding gorgeous. From the pattern on the outside to the matte surfaces inside, it really leaves nothing to be desired, especially compared to the relatively much uglier T115 or to the decent but comparatively tacky UL20A. It's also incredibly slim and light, by far the closest to an actual netbook that I've tried. It even seems to be surprisingly small for its screen, but I suppose you can look up actual measurements to verify if this is true or not. I know previous models have been criticized for their keyboard, but it is AOK by me. It would take some adjusting going from my Samsung N110, but it is rather pleasant to use, and the arrow keys are thankfully working just fine, unlike the ones on the 1810T I tried. The screen is beautiful of course, same one as with the 1810T I think. I find that my brightness comfort spot is at 70%. Battery seems to be holding up very well. I've been using it for about four hours now (very rough estimate since it's been on and off throughout the day), and it's at 37% now.
The only bad thing I've observed, and unfortunately part of it may be yet another manufacturing defect which might force me to get a replacement (heavy sigh): the touch pad buttons. Specifically the right one. As soon as I opened the laptop I noticed the right button is visibly lower than the left button and flush to the bottom with almost no space left. This unfortunately is not just a visual problem, the button is much weaker, and sometimes sticks without making a clicking sound or registering a clicking command. This is probably something one could get used to, but I'm not sure that I want to. I'm pretty sure this is not normal though and a replacement has a good chance of fixing this. I've heard this is a common issue with acer aspire and some other laptops. And I've had an almost identical issue with my first Kindle 2, as well. What probably won't be fixed by a replacement, and of lesser issue is the fact that the right button which is perfectly fine otherwise doesn't always respond when clicked along the bottom left edge. Pretty rare and not a dealbreaker for me though.
edit: Forgot to mention vibration. Although it isn't abnormal, the 1830T vibrates quite a bit. It's probably mostly the hard drive, but how much of it is the fan is hard to tell without putting an SSD in there, which I'm loathe to do until I'm happy with everything else.

I apologize for first-time poster topic drift, but, after much searching, runemark is the only person who actually has the 721 and has posted anything on the web as far as I can tell.
I just ordered the 721 because I have a trip soon. (I do not travel often, so battery life is less of a concern). I know I will want to expand the memory after reading your post. That's great that ACER installed one 2G module. ACER's US site doesn't have any detailed specs. Can I assume that this is the DDR3 SDRAM 1066 ACER uses in other machines? That is probably a dumb question, but I am not up to speed on memory (including the speed of memory for that matter). Can I ask another dumb question? Why didn't you just go with 4G? Thanks for your initiative in posting first. -

Cheers, Nir -
I already have a spare battery for my Aspire 1810/1410; now my question is: will this battery fit the 1830t model? If they share the same battery type will be great, because I can use the one I have. Mine is code UM09E31... Someone who already purchased the 1830t may be so kind to take a look on the battery sticker to see its code?
