You need launch manager. ePower is so glitchy that it is not worth it. I disabled it on my unit and use Windows 7 power management. ePower was randomly shutting down my wireless card.

I've used it loads of times for different machines and inside VM Workstation. Not lost any data yet. But I suppose , as ever, take necessary precautions.
Just shrink your C:\ drive and then expand your other partition. 2 changes to be made. Click apply and Partition Wizard will restart your machine.

Consider these have been selling so fast, I doubt Acer will actually discontinue them. Plus Q3 and Q4 are the quarters that drives revenue.

My i5 4820TG came today from Newegg - time to give it a spin! Still deciding whether a the catalyst drivers and fresh OS install are worth the time. Also looking at those Momentus XT drives....

 

3190 is getting the 460m upgrade, is that whats happening to the 4820tg? if so has there been any leak on when it will be released? Q4 of 2010 or Q1 of 2011?

I know that Fn+F3 enables bluetooth but I cannot get the laptop to recognize my Jawbone Icon Headset. When I go to add new hardware it simply does not find the device. Any suggestions???

 

Is the Jawbone Icon in discovery mode? I don't have one myself, but if the headset is powered off, a 5/7 second press of the power button should enable it to be discovered & paired again.

 

I tried it on an 8GB Pen Drive, shrunk it to 7.5 Gb and some how managed to loose the .5 GB space. The Pendrive now shows only 7.5 Gb .

Ill have to get through a few more Pen driives before I try it on my Machine

 

From memory, I thought an 8gb stick only showed up 7.6gb as standard?!

 

i lost around 225 Mb... it was 7.8GB or so, now its 7.5* or something.
Actually first I Shrunk it to 7.5 and Applied the changes.
Then the 225 MB which was left appeared as "unknown"
I guess I should have Shrunk and Created the new one and then applied the changes .

- Can it be upgraded to 8GB ram ? (Acer technicial say got some problems)

- It come with optional 3G, how can i have the 3G function ?

About to do a clean install of Windows 7...

I am following the steps from this forum but still had a few questions. On Acer's website there is a list of applications specific for the 4820TG. A previous poster mentioned you only need LaunchManager from the list. If I do not install the OpticalDrive PM and the Camera applications will I be losing functionality?

 

I'm also doing a clean install on my 4820TG-3195 with Windows 7 Ultimate ...

I'm trying to get the "Select Configurable Graphics" option on the context menu of the desktop to toggle between Intel and ATI Graphics. Which program do I need to install to enable this?

I'm following the steps outlined as far as graphics installation steps, but don't see this option:

Answer: Follow the steps below:
1. Install Acer's ATI drivers (bundled with Intel drivers) in "Switchable" mode. Restart.
2. Go into BIOS and select "Discrete". Boot into Windows 7 & install the latest ATI Catalyst Mobility drivers. Restart.
3. Go into BIOS and select "Switchable". Boot into Windows 7.

Try ATI 10.7a (Beta) Catalyst drivers if you have problems installing the original version.

Start with Windows 7. Start->Run, type "diskmgmt.msc" You should see only one hard disk, with the two partitions you mentioned. Windows 7 actually allows you to change the size of the primary partition. Right click on the Windows 7 partition and choose "Shrink Volume..." if you want to modify it's size. Presuming you haven't installed Server 2003 on the D drive, you can delete the D drive and create however many volumes you like.

Once you have the partitions the way you like it, go into the BIOS and adjust the boot order. You can install Windows Server 2003 from either the DVD or PXE (network) boot typical of large enterprises. Install Windows Server 2003 to the non Windows 7 partition of your choice, and you'll have the dual boot option when you restart the computer. To choose which OS is chosen by default, right click on My Computer, System Properties, Startup and Recovery and you'll see a dropdown for the relevant Operating Systems.

 

yes the keyboard and screen are nice but apple's aren't what they are cracked up to be...I promised my girlfriend's son some time ago that if he got good grades in high school, I would buy him a laptop when it comes time for college, so he ready now and tells me he would like to have a macbook. I figure I'll look at some used ones and fix it up but when I starting looking into used apple macbooks, they have numerous issues such as holes in that great aluminium unibody construction, scratches, dents, dings etc...with many of them telling me this is "no big deal, known issues, perfectly ok" as far as macs go

so i'll take my chances on a pc then with "no big deal, known issues, perfectly ok" thinking when supposedly your product is superior


btw....got him a 4820t and I'm configuring it now....this is a VERY nice laptop

 

How is the heat on your stock i7-640M, any throttle at high temps ?
If yours is the 3g version check the sim card slot at the back near the battery bay.

hey guys, i know it may sound ridiculously stupid, but where did you guys get your 4820TG? i've been lurking around on google but cant find one..~_~

 

I believe they are sold out at the moment. Newegg and Microcenter will hopefully be getting more in the near future

 

Okay I finally finished the clean install of Windows 7. To install the drivers, I ran "Setup" within the folders for all the drivers that I had backed up from C:\OEM\Preload\Autorun\DRV. Hopefully this was correct?

Also when I go to "Device Manager" > "Processors" I have the Core I5 listed 4 times. Is that normal?

 

This is really getting annoying. Will Acer please produce or distribute these a bit faster? Every where I see its is sold out (i5 version). Cant Acer see they are selling fast?

 

Hey is there a specific way/angle to put the charger into the port 0_0? or is it just naturally hard to push in, seems like i kinda have to force it.

It's normal. Windows sees it as 4 virtual processors. It's a dual core with hyperthreading, hence 4 processors

 

Blank Screen

Following the Graphics card installation process, my end result is always a blank Windows Login screen when switching back to "switchable" mode in the BIOS. I've done this several times already and there has to be something I'm missing.

The Intel drivers work fine by themselves in Switchable mode. I reboot in Discrete mode, add the ATI drivers and it's still good. Now whenever I boot back into Switchable it shows a blank login screen. I know it's there from Windows 7 startup visualizations, and the sounds at the login prompt ... I just can't get the computer to go back to the Intel drivers instead of ATI.

Help?????

 

Did you install Acer's default ATI drivers? (It comes bundled with the Intel drivers too.) You're not supposed to install ATI and Intel drivers separately. You can update ATI drivers, once you installed Acer's default ATI drivers.

 

Gonna ask same Q again as well as another one.

1) anyone else find it hard to plug in the ac adapter into the laptop, is there a specific angle or can i just put it in anyway (do i have to match pins etc? )

2) is overclocking the 5650 worth it? how hot does it get if its overclocked.

 

1) The plug can be troublesome, but there does seem to be a certain angle where it's easier to plug in.

2) It can give massive performance increases, but it gets HOT!

I used the ATI drivers that came with the laptop under C:\OEM\Autorun\drivers while under discrete mode rebooted into switchable and all is well!

 

I can't find any 14" sleeves. Do you guys know any manufacturers?

tried to do my backlit keyboard today. I only had 22 gauge wire and it didnt work to well. its a little thick. it made the keyboard sort of bulge. so im going to have to scrap it until i can get some 30 gauge wire. this annoys me a little because my soldering job was perfect for a first timer.

A smaller gauge wire will work out better in the end for the trick im going to do. i also read somewhere else that you can grab power off the wireless lan card. so when you close the lid the backlight will automatically go out. incorperating this + manual switch seems the best compromise.

P.S. will post some pics soon as i get mine... might grab one today... maybe... as i cant decide weather to get one now with the i5 430m and 3G or wait until the i5 450m hit the shelves and just hope they have 3G as it seems only some stores have this 3G exculsive model (and they cant tell me if the new i5 450m is going to ship with it) i really want the 3G feature.

Its actually going to replace my asus eepc netbook as i have come to the conclusion that i dont want to own a machine that i cant game on period, and my G73 is not that portable.

hey guys,
I'm new here and this is my first post.
I own 4820tg for 5 days. Everything is great except wifi.
It would randomly shut down, disappear from device manager or just not work.
I tried to reinstall wifi's drivers but still problems exist.

Does anyone have the same problem with wifi?
What should I do to fix it? Please help me!!

I think it was said in an earlier post that the Acer ePower management software could play up with the WiFi. Try uninstalling that and let windows manage power.
I have done this myself. But I wasn't having WiFi problems to begin with!

 

I also read that post and uninstalled epower but the wifi is still malfunctioning.

 

Folks

After spending some time looking at the 4820TG as my next purchase, I was gutted to realise that the model has no expresscard slot and no esata port.

Therefore - the only way in or out for i/o is USB 2.0. I can't even upgrade it with a PCIe sata adapter.

This for me is a deal breaker, I'm gutted because I had my heart set on one of these Timeline X models. I can't believe they left out the expresscard option

 

If you take a look at the 3820TG thread, there is a discussion in the past few days about the possibility of putting a USB 3.0 adapter in the second mini PCIe port that comes with the 3G model. There is a 4820TG 3G model but the only place I've seen it is in German stores so far. I guess it depends on how much time you have to wait. The miniPCIE port will give you 2 USB 3.0 slots. The lack of an ESata port or USB 3.0 is the only serious flaw my 3820TG has (other than beind nearly dead that is).

Are you saying the 4820TGhas a spare mini PCIe slot? Where is the wifi card? is it built in (if so, a wifi card upgrade would use up the slot).

Would it be possible to put an eSata port in via the spare slot? or a firewire?

In reading all the specs all over the web, I never once saw anything about a spare mini PCEe slot. Mind you - I'm finding it very hard to get decent specs anyway (such as what make and model of wifi card etc)

 

Every 4820TG has an internal miniPCIe slot in the bottom of the unit. The wifi card is plugged into it. If you can do with out wireless, you can pull the card and try to use the slot for a PCIe USB 3.0 card. It has been discussed, but no-one has done it yet. The 3G model of the 4820TG (not yet sold in theUS as far as I can see) has a second PCIe slot for the 3G module. That might be a way to have the 3.0 USB and wofi working at the same time. I guess you can always use a wifi dongle.
