^^ there must be a way where you can add a minipcie adapter in 4820tg by soldering on the vacant space of the MB
what about e14 , does it have 1minipcie or 2?

-
I've changed my unit, hope it helps
-
ok got the answer in E14 service manual.
The compatible model is
HSPA EV-DO WWAN module 531993-001
Qualcomm Gobi 2000 HP UN2420 WWAN Card 531993-001 4 DM1 - eBay (item 280502486479 end time Oct-01-10 23:40:03 PDT) -
Thanks for clearing that up
I'm off to look at other makes/models. -
-
I will be posting a video review and more pics and videos on the laptop. Possibly today!
-
I've clean installed the new unit installed all the drivers etc. but something bothers me. I can't tell certainly but it looks like my fans work much harder even the notebook is idle. Now I'm surfing the internet but I can clearly hear the fans. It looks like they're working at middle pace
Temps are fine, i guess they shouldn't work that hard at 44C -
Btw. these are my benchmark results and temps during benchmark

Unbelievably, the only way to get data in or out of this laptop is via USB 2.0. In terms of throughput and bandwidth requirements we as consumers have moved on. We now consume HD video, Net TV, DLNA, media servers, massive iso images, huge backups etc. USB 2.0 is simply not enough any more.
It is truly MIND BLOWING that Acer provided no decent I/O port or option on their Timeline X models.
For that reason, and that reason only, I would not even consider purchasing which is a pity cos I had my heart set on one. -
The I5-560M version of the 4820TG has shown up on PCHome in Taiwan.
Hopefully, that option will show up here.

I've been browsing this site for a couple months undecided like most of here on which laptop to get. I have decided to get the 4820tg but i guess im kind of late to that party because no one carries it anymore. I looked at PCHome and saw the 3820tg. Did you order yours straight from them?
-
I bought my 3820TG from Computeruniverse in Germany about 3 months ago. For reasons to complicated to explain, they no longer ship to the US. I think that 3 or 4 units were imported from Germany. Almost all of the 3820TG's in North America came from PCHome. Here is the NA buyer's thread. http://forum.notebookreview.com/acer/501992-acer-3820tg-north-america-purchase-options-107.html
The 4820TG will be back in stock in the US. You might want to wait a bit.

Thanks for the info. I am looking to get one for 598, if that doesnt work out I guess I will wait. I have the backlit keyboard on the way prepping for this purchase.

solved the problem...
-
hey, I ve got some troubles with my 4820tg.
I bought it from Taiwan and have been using it for a week now. I reinstalled new win7 hoping that it would solve the problems but they still exist.
My wifi card would shut down itself sometimes or disappear from device manager or not find any wifi networks. is is from broadcom.
And also, it reboots itself unexpectedly. I don't play any games so I think the problem is not in over heating.
Have you experienced such problems? If so how you get rid of them.Or should I take it to acer service center?
help help!! -
If you have any great problem replace the unit. It is not a feature, that the wlan disappeared , it is hardware problem. -

I don't have epower installed on my laptop, so the problem must be in the other thing. -
Guys do your cpu usage frequently jumps up to 20-40% ?

For some reason when I do a Yuan to US dollar conversion it comes out to over $5000 dollars. Am I doing something wrong or is it really that expensive. Also if you were to guess how much would you think the 560m would cost and how much the 460m would cost. Thanks -
-
Edit: Currently it sits at $1300 for 560m and $1100 for 460m, will they go down when they come to the US? I hope they will be around $900 for the 460m. -

I have been desperately looking for the last few days for a 4820TG to replace my current dying ASUS G2P. The problem is that I am in Canada and it seems as though nobody is even bothering to resell it north of the border. I've looked at Newegg and TigerDirect, searched google for links that only turned up the 1820/3820/5820 series, went to the Acer site directly to look for Canada based resellers and found nothing.
I'd never buy anything besides the 4820tg because the alternatives either are too big, too small or too underpowered (i3/5450), but I am at a loss of what to do next. I'm thinking of calling Acer directly but more likely than not they will just direct me to one of their crappier offerings. I don't know anyone even remotely near the States so I can't get it shipped somewhere through Micro Center.
Any help would be great. -

I was going to use this but found someone in the USA who could get it for me. -
Hi everyone
I saw the Aspire 4820TG the one with the i5 CPU and really started thinking of buying it, but I don't to buy something that's not reliable coz I have the LG LW40 Express which is torturing me a lot.
1- Can it handle 6 Hours of continues work on Excel, Watching movies, Web Browsing etc...?
2- What's the average operating temperature? does it get overheat depending on the 6 hours work?
3- The Battery, does it get ruined quickly?
4- Is it reliable? does it worth the 900$?
5- I heard that the speakers quality is not good coz of the low bass, is there anything can be done about it?
I know I asked a lot of questions but I don't want to buy something that is like my current laptop.

#Anybody knows how long the 4820tg is going to last ?
#And what problems may rise if it has exceeded its life expectancy ?
#Any ways to increase it's lifespan ?
btw I already solved my so-called throttling problems with this notebook hehe.. -
Since the 4820TG is just a few months old, I dont think you can get too many concrete answers for Reliability , but based on my experience so far I can give my views some of your questions
1: NO, It can give around 5 hrs while normal Excel/Bowsing jobs. But if u watch movies then it goes down to around 2.5 - 3 hrs.
2.So far I havent experienced any heating whatsoever ( althought I havent played any Super Intense games) .
3.too early to answer,
4.Dont know about reliable, but its an awesome machine and worth every penny.
5.Speakers are just about ok. you can attach external speakers if u need much better sound.
I had the same jitters as u are having while selecting a laptop.. i had narrowed my list down to lenovo Y460 / MSI FX400 / HP DM4 series and 4820TG.
Im Glad I chose 4820TG ( so far)
this forum helped me a lot during the screening process.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
Danny7GTX,
How did you solve it? -
thanks man you helped me a lot. -
thank you for your advices. I have tried them but my wlan is still malfunctioning. Gonna take it to acer service center. -
any update on when will the new 4820TGs arrive? For U.S
-
Visit my thread here.
I resolved mine by putting on the battery lolz. -
Poor audio quality...
I have my PC speakers plugged into the headphone jack (analog) and the sound quality seems a lot more "muddy" than my old laptop. Has anyone else noticed this? Maybe it's a problem with my audio driver? I did a clean install of Windows 7 and now under device manager I have "High Definition Audio Device" and "Realtek High Definition Audio" both listed under Sound -

man the acer 4820tg is pretty durable.
I dropped a 3 pound weight on it from 1.5m high just to the left of the touch pad and it didnt break. Just turned off when the weight hit but when i turned it back on it was fine. Theres a dent now on my laptop tho
Anyone know what parts are located in the between the touch pad and the left edge of the laptop? I wanna be extra sure and check if they are working alright. -

that sounds like an interesting project. im a little thrown back though that you would consider a 15 inch computer after saying how great and small the 13 was. just keep in mind how large it is and make triple sure before you buy

Hey guys... finally ened up buying the 4820TG i5 430m HD5650 with the 3G.
First impressions are excellent.
Size weight and power all fantastic... would have liked the option to look at the 3820TG but dont sell it in Australia, anyway i do quiet abit of dvd ripping/burning on the move so the ODD is a feature i very much use.
Battery life is brilliant!
Screen is quite good ... alot better than the 5820TG i owned for a short period of time (too big).
Gaming is really impressive BC2 is surprisingly smooth, everything medium, textures high multi player.
Temps got abit high the other day gaming cpu 91deg. but the missus had the bloody fire crankin so the house was very hot... the last time i gamed the house temps were normal and it didnt get above 75deg. GPU never got above 85 normally around early 70's.
Very happy so far.
My asus eepc netbooks days are numbered.
New HDD coming soon... Seagate momentus XT or ssd yet too decide. -
Bronsky,
Any idea when the 4820tg will come to the US? Specifically Long Island or NYC?
