Yea ... they do that. They will probably take whatever the distributer has to sell them. The listing as discontinued probably comes from the distributer.

botched my keyboard mode. i had it all soldered on to the keyboard. i was feeding the wire through the top plate and the ribbon cable on the backlit keyboard tore in half. so pissed off. i had hardly any pressure on it at all. barely the weight of the keyboard itself and it just ripped. note sure what i can do. maybe somehow strip the ribbon cable and resolder again. not now though im tired of unscrewing and rescrewing 487 screws.

Same thing happened here. Apply some electrical tape on metal keyboard backing under broken ribbon to insulate. Yes, you can scrape off plastic coating on one side of ribbon cable (the side touching the added tape). Use a razor blade and lightly scrape coating until copper appears. Then apply thin coating of solder to ribbon cable. Don't heat too long, usually just some molten solder on iron tip wiped across bare exposed ribbon a couple times is enough to get solder to stick to ribbon.. Tinned wire should then solder to fixed ribbon cable. Tape the hell out of it.

i did support it with a little tape but i didnt want the keyboard to bulge. thanks for telling me it happened to you too it makes me feel not as bad. im still kinda annoyed though i was so close and it was so many screws.

i will also try the razor thing

Have you tried putting a piece of insulating tape under the ribbon and then just taking a small piece of stripped wire and see if it will jump the break? then tape over the top too? Just a thought. I'm stressing for both of you guys. :)

Does anyone know if the timelinex series is dead? I want a timelinex with the 14 inch screen, the i5 processor, switchable graphics card, and the 6 cell battery because the 8 cell look like it wouldn't be comfortable on your lap. I looked at New Egg and they even took it off their site. Is there a new version of this laptop coming out? I have a Timeline 4810T-8480 right now but I want a little more power. Please help!

Went to acer service center and got new wlan card which works :))

I tested my 4820tg i5 to figure out max temps. during wprime max temp was 93 degrees and prime95 max temp reached 94 degrees. the normal temp of my laptop is around 45-50 degrees.

it is higher than usual, isn't it?

ps: I live in taiwan so my room temperature is 28-30 degrees

It is a bit high but not out of line. Max temp on the I5 is 105C and it will not normally throttle until it gets into the 97 or 98C range. Mine will run at 91C and 93C when OC'd. I would not worry. After the warranty has expired (1 year) I would either change the thermal paste myself or have a reputable shop do it for your if your not comfortable doing it. IC Diamond works great.

    Congratulations again.

I'm having a strange issue with my 4820. Whenever I try to watch a youtube video, while on the ATI GPU, the computer freezes after about 10sec and I have to give it a hard restart. If I use the Intel GPU, it works just fine. I think all of my drivers are up to date, as well as flash. Any thoughts?

I would try it with the Acer 10.7 ATI driver. If you're using 10.8 it could be the problem.

Whats the best way to overclock the GPU? Is it the AMD GPU tool?
Also when i launch the program i see 549.96 and 799.87 what do you guys recommend i change this to? 650 and leave the 799.87?.

My gpu got to 78 degrees on 3dmark 06 so i some this overclock wont increase the temps to much.

Don't use 3DMark for temps. My temps skyrocketed in games when temps in 3DMark were about the same as yours.

But if your cooling is up for it, just OC like a normal GPU. 650/900 should be an easy OC.

Do you encounter any random shutdowns while gaming ? This applies only for certain games... Never happened in BC2 or MW2.

I got my 4820 2 days ago and I just love it. I am in love again :)
    It has i7 620 , x25 ssd 160gb (main reason I preferred 4820).ssd is great.
no noise, no heat, long battery, fast read/write ... I am not a game fan, thats why I didnt make any test on games but I am sure my one with ssd will work extremely good. I just like to play fifa and pes. that why next days, I am gonna give it a try on those games only.I preferred that notebook because I am developer and I do programming, debung, testings etc. also I use graphic programs like photoshop. thats why i7 with ssd is huge performance improvement, I believe.
I read most of the posts here but unfortunately not before I purchased but after :) so I dont have any problem neither with screen nor with sound. ok screen isnt HD but still fair enough for that price. speakers are for me perfect after my previous notebook fujitsu siemens amilo :D it had almost nothing for sound :))
Battery life is totally trick because it doesnt last 8 hours as it was said. maybe it can but u should probably turn off wifi, no video, no game, low brightness....despite that average is about 5-6 hours (no game and no video).
ok now I need a sleeve and a notebook case.. any suggestion for 14 inc? there are many for 13.3 and 15.6 but I cant find enough for 14 :(

yes, Its called Acer Aspire TimelineX 4820TG Il Diavolo.. I didnt buy it over computeruniverse. there are other and more famous ones in Germany. btw, I am from Germany :) see the links

    Notebooks Acer Aspire 4820TG-624G16Mnks

Acer Aspire 4820TG-624G16MNks TimelineX Il Diavolo Core i7 SSD 14" HD5650

even on amazon.de, It is available

Acer Aspire TimelineX 4820TG Il Diavolo 35.6 cm: Amazon.de: Computer & Zubehör

this is a great deal. because similar machine with that specs costs 1800euro by dell and sony over 2000euro.. It is probably cheaper in Usa, if its on market.

Hey what drivers are you guys using? Im using the 10.7 beta ones as the actual ones dont install 0_0. If i install the non beta ones no info changes in catalyst.

Im trying to run Civilization V but getting like 22 fps (DX9) -_- must be the game. Ill try more tweaks in a bit.

EDIT: nvm was using intel GPU -_- i dont get it, how do you manually switch the GPU? is it just through the GOU switcher app? It said hi-performance but still was using intel untill i ran BCF2 and it switched to ATI.

Anyway it works good, only tried it for 5 min with tutorial
Settings. DX10/11 ( idk which one its using)
All high except shadows medium. + no Vsync = 30 fps constant, drops to 25 if u have a weird zoom level ( all the way out is 30fps and maz zoom is 30fps so its good)

    WIll try DX9 tomorrow.

I believe that too but in the first pages of this topic, people wrote about problems while they were trying clean installation of win 7. I think I will backup driver and softwares using acer arecovery and then install ultimate. only problem I might have pre installed one was german and my ultimate is english. do you think that will cause some problems?

No ... I don't think that will be a problem at all. My original OS was German and I have english installed. This guide might help. http://forum.notebookreview.com/ace...rks-tweaks-mods-upgrades-162.html#post6465732 One word of caution. if you have to manually authenticate, you will need a different OEM key for ultimate and can't use the homepremium key I post in the guide.

    Good luck.

Might anyone be able to advise me where in the UK I might be able to buy a 6–cell battery for this notebook.

Mine came with the 9–cell, which, as someone somewhere wrote, sort of spoils the aesthetics somewhat. Although the battery life is excellent, for sheer portability (and also just to have a spare battery for back-up) I’d prefer the slimmer, sleeker 6–cell version but am having one heck of a time trying to track one down. I checked Acer’s own UK site, but there’s no replacement battery for the 4820TG listed at all. (I’m assuming the various batteries would be interchangeable.) Any guidance here would be thoroughly appreciated.

Incidentally, I’ve had this machine for a couple of months now and my experience with it, thus far anyway, has been overwhelmingly positive: a delight to have and to hold, as they say. Oh, and while I’m here can I just a say a quick thank you to everyone who has contributed to this thread. Warm, witty, thoughtful, helpful reading, I’ve found it invaluable, so once again – thanks.

You might want to inquire at MK in Germany. They seem to have the best selection of parts for the Acer. Here in the states, Acer will not sell you a 6 cell battery if you have a 9 cell model so I think getting one from the manufacturer is not an option. Expect them to be expensive.

I just saw the new TimelineX AS4820TG-7805 on Amazon's website for sale! If you do a search for TimelineX it shows up on the second page so I almost didn't see it. I'm not sure what the difference is from the last model but I am ordering one right now! I am also doing next day shipping, and I might even do an unboxing on youtube. I am so excited as I have been trying for over a week to find a 4820TG!
