    Wow, GREAT catch diecast!

The two differences I see are the new processor (i5-460M) and HDD size (320GB).

I guess the 320GB hard drive is ok for now. Maybe I could throw in a SSD down the line.

Oh man could this be it? I didn't order from newegg because of CA tax. Amazon would be a killer deal.

I have my reservations about the lack of eSata/USB 3.0/Expresscard, but otherwise this laptop is as sound as it gets. I've thought about waiting for Sandy Bridge or Fusion, but I have a feeling that with better integrated graphics we'll have to pay even more of a premium for dedicated GPUs in laptops.

By the way, does anyone have a clue as to when higher res screens are going to become the norm on 14" laptops? The Envy 14 did it, but nobody else seems to really be following suit. That's my other reservation with the 4820tg and basically every other 14" laptop out there...

Thanks diecast! Repped you for the heads-up. I've been constantly watching for Microcenter to get this back in stock (have a b&m near my work). This one is much better since it's the i5 version. Having it sold from amazon so I can get free shipping, no tax & rewards points with my amazon visa is icing on the cake!

Does anyone know if it is possible to triple screen with an acer 4820tg? Right now I have an lcd tv hooked up via HDMI and also a monitor hooked up via VGA cable simultaneously however the computer is not giving me an option to utilize both monitors at the same time. Is there a certain software I need to do this or is it unattainable? Someone get back to me asap please.

11,6 with i7!! Its really cool and price isnt so high.but it would be great with ssd. I could pay 300euro more for a 160gb ssd. I have 4820 version with i7 and ssd and I am very happy with that. my notebook starts up as hibernate. hibernate starts as standby. Programs are also very fast and no freeze. I am just wondering. is there a big difference between that UM model of i7 and normal one. anyone experienced?

Yes, a huge difference. (on paper)
    It's a turd in comparison.
An i7-640um runs slower than an i3-350m.
Although most users would not be able to tell the difference anyway.
    Google for benchmarks results.

scroll to bottom pf page for comparison example

Hi guys, I need a help. I have an acer timelineX 4820TG.
I'd like to flash the bios, what I have to do? I download the archive, there are two folders in there (dos and windows). I can't run win7, so I have to do it by usb-pendrive. How it works?
    Thank you. :)

Extend your desktop across all the monitors. I've done the triple screen setup with a few other laptops much cheaper and less spec'd.

Hey, what is this PQSERVICE partition I see that when I try to format it. It has 13 gb speac. Omg thats a lot. Do I need that partition? should I get rid of it? There is also System reserved partition? why acer is not simple like others :D

PQService is a partition containing the stock settings of the laptop. You need it for reinstalling Windows.
The partition reserved for the system is a partition Windows 7 automatically makes. It's not an Acer thing and you probably shouldn't remove it.

my harddisk is supposed to be 160gb but when I am running new installation I see that partitions. 13 gb PQService, 136 gb acer,100 mb system reserver.
total 150gb where is rest of 10 gb? :S
In addition to that, I deleted that PQService but I am not able extend it during installation. Can you do it after installation?

A 160GB hard drive will never be exactly 160GB. It'll always be less. 150GB sounds correct to me.

or it could be that Windows is making system restore points and taking up hard drive space.

I tried to put ""ZQ1_118.exe" on the usb-pendrive... I started notebook pushing fn + esc, it started to ready the pendrive, but the bios didn't update and appear on the screen acer's logo... How do I rename the file? Is it correct?

    Hi there,

I recently purchased Acer 4820TG notebook with Windows 7 installed in a single partition of 452 GB. There's also a recovery partition of 13 GB visible in the disk manager. I want to create 2 partitions in the 452 GB C drive of 225 GB each. I would want to install Fedora 12 on one of the partitions. I don't want to disturb the current Windows 7 installation.

Is there a way I can achieve this?

    Thanks, Ujjwal

    Why are you flashing BIOS?

If you need to do it for correcting some problems then great.
But you should not do this unless you need to, or at least know what you are doing fairly well. Sorry but judging from the couple posts, I would suggest you do not update the Bios. You don't copy an exe to a bootable drive and boot hoping the exe will run and update bios.

I tried to do a dual-boot Debian distribution ( ;)) - Win7, during the re-installation of Win7 something went wrong and the bios was corrupted. Everytime I turn on the notebook, the only thing I see is acer's logo. I thought to flash bios to solve this problem.

    Not Bios problem.

Start over with re-install of Win7.
Might require partitioning and formatting hard drive.
If you have nothing, on another PC, download Win7 iso image, burn to DVD, and use the key on bottom of laptop. Search these forums for more details.

There is a Blue pinkish/white sticker on the bottom of laptop with your Windows 7 version info, as well as the Product Key needed to install windows again.

You were going to dual boot? How much experience do you have with PC's?

Can you enter Bios to make changes to boot order?

If the HD comes before optical, and HD boot partition is wacked, then it will just sit and wait. You need to make sure DVD comes before HD in boot order. Do you know how to enter Bios and can you enter Bios?

When I try to extend it across all the monitors it shuts down the opposite. Like when I activate the HDMI lcd tv to extend it, the vga monitor shuts down and vice versa.

Didn't read all your posts, so don't know if this has been asked, but are you using the ATI card? I can imagine that the Intel VGA won't be able to use multiple monitors, but that it'll work if you switch to the ATI card.

Just to confirm, you are rapidly pressing F2 up and down as soon as you press the power button on the laptop, and continue rapidly tapping F2, and still can not enter Bios?

Were you ever able to enter the laptops Bios in the past?

You need to create a bootable USB drive and put the dos version of the bios on it, Then let the USB boot up in dos and flash the bios. That should get you back to square 1.

    hey guys,

I feel like my unit is overheating. And because of the heating I suspect that the system constantly suppress core speed to 1333 mhz (i5-450, 2.40 ghz)

Have someone contacted acer service center with such overheating issues?
