Yeah I'm sure it's not a whitelist. Must be some kind of a driver problem conflict- Acer definitely does not whitelist hardware.

Hi BDMaster, I would suggest you to not upgrade bios via acer update, it almost killed my pc.

I think you should download the stand-alone bios from acer website, it should work.

Anyway fortunately you can revive even a bricked pc (I've done this way) pressing a key combination at boot, with a usb memory plugged in with the right bios inside. (you can find the instruction for this procedure with google)

I would agree with except I have tried it with win 7 that was installed and then also a fresh install of win 8.

Guess I will try to do a fresh back up of the acer system and install it from there.

    odd for sure

fyi this laptop flies with an ssd and windows 8 CP

Hi guys, hoping you can help. Just bought an 8951g and I think I have a fault with the audio but want to make sure I haven't missed anything obvious before I shout at my supplier.

When I play videos I am missing a bunch of frequencies, in fact I can't hear any voices. If I plug in headphones I can hear everything perfectly. I have played with the Dolby control panel and tried lots of different audio sources (youtube, grooveshark, iplayer, local AVI etc). The issue is most noticeable on the videos as the voices of the actors are missing, but music sounds hollow and echoful too.

In playback device settings I have 5.1 selected and when I run a test I can only hear the test sound through front left and rear left and right. Center front right and sub don't make a sound. Can i ask you to run teh same test and make sure the test 'bells' are played on all speakers? If so I'll send it back...

    Thanks.

    Hi,

Got my Ethos 5951G about 4 weeks ago and noticed the same bulge under the touchpad 3 days ago. It must have happend overnight because it was working fine and the next morning I noticed the trackpad was dislodged from its normal flush position. Thought the magnet had gone but then noticed the bulge under the touchpad that made it dislodge from its compartment.

I am going to take it back to have it replaced.

    Anyone else experienced this?

    Hey Bss_1

My touchpad got also the bulge underneath, I did not send it back to be replaced.
I left it out of its notebook compartment till the battery swelling was totally back to normal flat-size.
--Since then I've put it back into it's notebook compartment, and used it.
    ---The swelling never came back.
(I guess it has to do something with chemistry.. but somehow the battery has gotten used to the heat underneath.

    Hi everybody,

First of all, i m sorry for my english. I have a terrible problem with my touchpad. About 2 months ago, i have bought an Acer 5951g. And the touchpad problem has always existed, since i picked up. Blue flash light on the media remote blinks always.
It s not steady. But it should be steady, when it stays on the Laptop, or ? When the blue light blinks sometimes goes the cursor wrong way. I mean, directions are changing. (i move it to left, it goes down. right goes to up. up goes to right...). Because of that, i sent the laptop to service twice. Media remote has replaced with new one. But it was same. I have recorded a video, that shows what is happening. But it comes back again from the service with the same problem. So since i bought this laptop, it was always in the service, and now they want to the laptop again to repair.
    Any solution? Please help me!!
    Thanks.

I've used Windows 8 on my 8950. I installed it on virtual machine and the camera doesn't work. But every thing else does. The first release the wireless didn't work but I put and intel card in and the next version worked fine.

    Hey pomak,

hmmm your touchpad going crazy, going down when you move left, goes up when you move left..
It sounds like its doing what it (only) should do when you take it out,
(Flip it on its side, the touchpad will change its orientation. -portrait / landscape

What could be the reason?--- maybe this?
your touchpad maybe hasn't been paired yet (connected/linked to your 5951G )

I had (and a few others) also had a similar problem with our touchpad.

The answer I found and gave/shared was---wayyyy- back in this forum.. (page 22 ;) ;)
--But here you go... in BOLD the official steps to pair your remote/touchpad with your 5951G

(I don't know if it helps with you.. --but lets hope-- :D :D

    The solution is simple...
Just make sure you follow the steps correctly... (i didn't at first, and thought it was a faulty one... ) eventually I did go through these steps again correctly, and it connected with the 8951G, --haven't had a problem with it since..

    here are the steps..

--Turn off the MediaRemote (press the mode button for three seconds). --make sure the blue/orange blinking light goes out.

--Press and hold the left and the right click button (beneath the remote)
hold them both, pressed for at least three seconds.

--Press the left click button key once.

--Press the mode button on the touchpad.

--The status light will flash to confirm the pairing was successful.

If it doesn't work the first time, which can happen, because the order of clicking (especially holding the right and left key together) needs to be done right.)
try it again, .. eventually it should work.

    --Hope it helps..

Thank you for the answer. I tried it maybe 20 times :) And everytime says, pairing is successfully. Sometimes blue light on the touchpad goes steady, and everything is ok. But if it starts to blinking, the problem says, be ready, i m coming. It is like a bad joke.
    Thank you again.

    Hey pomak,

hhmmm, The blue light 'blinking' -with the remote outside of the laptop is normal, it does so telling you its working/connected with your bluetooth.
    ---Mine does the same.. :)

    BUT.....
somehow I got the feeling your remote is alright, (Forgive me if I'm wrong) ----It sounds like your way of understanding it's orientation (from Landscape to Portrait-mode) is what causes your problems.

You can handle it holding it flat in your hands.... but tilting it slightly to-much to either left, or right, causes the remote to switch into portrait mode..

The point is, that tilting it to the left it goes to (the right portrait-mode)
but tilting it a bit to the right it goes to (the wrong portrait-mode ---reversing every mouse-movement..

---I've had it also in the beginning, ..thinking I held normally in my hands ...but sadly with a slight tilt to the right----- :D :D

I 'think' that's what Causing your move it to left, it goes down. right goes to up.

To me it seems like a miss-understanding about the remote's orientation abilities....
--but then again I can be wrong..

To clarify what I just said above, I've put in a little picture/explanation.

Hi. I contacted with acer twice. They coudn t solve this problem (media remote changed, they say). And i bought this notebook from Germany, but i live in Austria. And next 2 months, i will be at Turkey for a Holiday (international warranty isn t valid here). Because of that, i m looking for software solution. I discovered something new. First i m starting the pc, it makes the same problem. After, i m taking it to sleep mode. Then when i open it again, media remote works perfect (steady blue light). Then if it goes to sleep mode again, the problem comes anew. Next time works perfect. Isn t it very strange? I m on it. :) Thanks for the answer.

    Hello everybody,

I have a problem since I bought my acer 8951G, and the Acer support doesn't tell me anything to solve by my own this problem (around 1 month to fix in a acer repair service).

    My problem:

I cannot find my nvidia VGA in my system. Not in windows or in Linux. Cannot run any game in windows smothly, since I think that my only vga is the intel one. I have tried to download the drivers from the acer web page, and when I try to install them, it says "not compatible hardware found". I dont have the nvidia control panel neither.

I'm quite desperate about this. My acer have like 4 months since I bought. Any help to solve this?

Thanks to anyone who read this.

It is NOT about different nvidia package ..
First u need fakin net frameworks latest is 4.0
Install all that crap from original drivers chipset first ..
    Hd3000 first THEN gpu 555m

I already had installed the hd3000 graphics, so I have installed .net frameworks 4.0, update my windows 7 64 bits, and try to download again all the drivers from acer support page. And again, not luck trying to install the nvidia ones from acer support page "not compatible hardware found". I have installed all the other stuff first.

Reinstalled WHOLE windows, now Ultimate 64 bits. Same process: installed drivers from the acer support page: 1º chipset, 2º hd3000, 3º nvidia driver and gets the same error "not compatible hardware found".

I don't know what else I can do...

i got overheat problem with my acer 5951G AFTER 1 YEAR 4 MONTHS USED
sometimes the laptop turn off itself when i play games

if i got badluck things like Dota2(which is not really tough game) can make my 5951G turn off itself.
Then i try to play the game with windows mode while monitoring the GPU GT 540M with MSI AfterBurner
i see when the temperature goes to 100 C, or over 91 C the laptop turn off itself

    1. Is there anyone here got the same heat problem?
    2. Ive tried to open the case to clean my laptop, but then i didnt found my GPU, LOL. How to access the GPU ? i know its on the top corner

Here's the list of games that make overheat:
    1. Blacklight:Retribution (even if i set to LOW, which is really > 40 FPS ) it turn off itself after 20 minute-ish
    2. NBA 2K12 (modded graphic)
    3. Dota2 (sometimes got overheat)

I Used Coolermaster notepal U3 by the way.

    Please help me guys,
    Best Regards

That is completly normal that your aptop will turn of itself..
You wouldnt be happy if you bbq your laptop ..
IWhen your cpu and gpu reach temperature treshold it automaticlyturn off prevent damage.
You need cooling system underneath your laptop and not some crappy mastercooler you need to male tyour own

For anyone who has been looking for the Acer clear.fi v1.0 Media Suite, the set-up files lie in

    C:\OEM\Preload\Autorun\APP

If you have already lost access to this folder but, still want the sofware, I'm more than willing to share it with you. Just click the link below :) There are two folders in a zip file so, you won't neccessarily need archive unpacking software. Unpack the zip file. The clear.fi v1.0 Client folder is just the sharing app. The clear.fi v1.0 folder is the actual suite itself. Once installed, there is an update. Update & enjoy.

Have anybody tried to regulate the FAN?
I tried ACFANCONTROL, but could not find the FanControlByte register.
Anyway, BIOS ControlByte register is at 0x55 (85). When you rewrite it to desired value (0 = low speed, 5 = max speed), then the fan will automatically revert to the previous speed. Do somebody know how to override this and get automatic speed regulation? However if you set the desired value and quickly disable FANCONTROL (f.e. setting value to 6), the fan will remain at the selected speed.
Bottom line: there is a possible way to manually control fan speed, but without knowing FanControlByte register, it is not possible to set automatic user temperature-speed curve :(

And one more thing - if you want to completely silence the fan and can not set the value to 0, try to let the CPU cool down, set the automatic regulation (which will probably remain at speed 1) and then set register 0x4E to 114 or 98 (depending on actual value, set the opposite).

Thanks for any information leading to successful automatic user-defined fan speed regulation.

    Hi

I own a 8951G. Has anyone tried installing WIN8 on this machine and managed to get Intel WIDI working? I have upgraded to WIN 8 Pro and the WIDI which was pre-installed and working on WIN7 is not working anymore. I am not even able to install the software from Intel as I get a "platform not supported error".

    Can someone help with this?
