Is this backup BIOS image? It's missing platform data. Anyway, I already modified BIOS image for Ipower GX. You can find it at post #1134. Use at your own risk!

yes, but the new BIOS vG15-D20 is very bad can you mod this G15-D16
-
-
i downgrad from G15-D20 to G15-D16 it works i don´t have the .rom
-
kizwan.. I tried to open your bios with wpbe.. but opening ACPI it report
**** invalid table checksum in 'ACPI00.AML'. aborting display.
I suppose you modded the BIN in hex? you are great!! -
Hi kizwan. Again me.

Funny thing with travelmate 2490 bios. Version 3.01 recognized my old t5200, but 3.02 bios didn't work with it, while 3.02 works with t7400 and 3.01 doesn't.
With 3.02 i have sleep working. Everything above 3.02 brakes sleep(only s4 works)
Could you enable VT on it?

Thanks -
The modified BIOS for TravelMate 2490, based on BIOS v3.02, is available at post #213. Use at your own risk.

VT works, sleep works.
Thank you. -
Modded BIOSes for Acer 5920G, 6920G and 8920G that hopefully add support for GeForce 9600M GT MXM cards can be found in the topic http://forum.notebookreview.com/acer/575866-possible-fix-acer-x920g-vs-geforce-9600m-gt-issue.html
-
Hi .NetRolller 3D,
Can you add support for unsupported card? (unsupported card - meaning, it should work but notebook failed to boot with it OR only 2D work) -
Hello,
I got a ACER-Aspire 7740G with a Mobility Radeon 5650.
Problem is that the Stream-Function is locked.
Is there a chance to unlock it with a modded BIOS?
Bios Version is V 1.27
THX -
-
Yes i refer to the GPU-Stream Function. And I hope so too.
I'd like to get the feature the GPU is offering but ACER decided not to give it to the user. -
ATI Stream is another name of GPGPU and is an opposite number of nVidia CUDA.
It's not locked in any way by Acer or any other manufacturer because it can't be and it's available in Catalyst since 8.12
The problem is that there are only few applications that can use GPU acceleration and were made for ATI Stream (i.e. Cyberlink MediaEspresso- or at least it used to be when I tested it) -
If the card is unsupported only because it follows the MXM spec too strictly, relying on the (corrupted) MXM structure to set up its outputs & thermal limits, and possibly not using sensible defaults when the MXM structure is unparseable (like the 9600M GT and some 9500M GSes, apparently) then yes.
However, I probably can't fix cards that e.g.:
-have no VBIOS chip (instead relying on a VBIOS embedded in the motherboard BIOS),
-handshake with the machine they are installed in to prevent installation into an unauthorized machine,
-contain only protected-mode EFI code in their VBIOS chip (no traditional 16-bit real mode PCI option ROM, e.g. Apple cards - the 5720G is probably capable of supporting these cards with some hacking, as it has a 32-bit InsydeH2O EFI firmware, but the 5920G seems to use a traditional 16-bit BIOS),
-contain a hardcoded, mismatching MXM structure in their VBIOS, never actually querying anything from the system BIOS - these cards have to be flashed to a non-hardcoded VBIOS to take advantage of the fixed MXM structure. -
@Downloads:
Concerning ACER-Support that feature is locked/not free to use.
Neither CPU-Z nor GPU-Z nor Xiloft's Video Converter are showing the possibility to use it, despite the feature-list of AMD/ATI says that the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 has Stream-Support.
@.Net.Roller:
How can I check of if or if not is there is a VBIOS-Chip or VBIOS embeded into the Motherboard Bios?
How can i check the rest of points of your statement if or if not the Stream-Feature can be unlocked?
Regards -
Probably need to install ATI Stream SDK?
I don't know whether this is related or not but with ATI Catalyst 11.4, I don't see Stream information in AIDA64. I tried downgrading to 11.3, same issue. So I tried older ATI Catalyst driver. With version 10.11, I can see Stream information in AIDA64.
So, the question is, does this look locked or unlocked?Last edited by a moderator: Feb 6, 2015 -
imho this locks unlocked/free/usable.
i tried the same with AIDA64 an got an empty page, means unter GPGPU -> Stream:Redwood is nothing to see.
Looks bad.
P.S. I'm use Version Catalyst 11.4 as driver. -
-
Thx so far.
Im gonna try 10.11 and then I'll see.
Regards -
-
Not yet.
I'll try it in a few days.
Regards. -
Any chance of modding the bios to overvolt my HD5650? (acer 3820tg bios version 1.19)
thanks -
-
-
@prikolchik
It seems we are still unable to overvolt with that though -
@kizwan:
Best regards for your help so far.
I downgraded my driver to 10.11 now.
Aida64 showed me unter Display->GPGPU some information unlike with the other version of drivers.
But neither MedieEspresso nor Xilisoft Converter can use the Stream-Function so I think it doesn't make sense to keep on searching/trieing to unlock that feature.
Next time I will test the Laptop before I buy it.
Regards -
This is for 4820TG/5820TG, but it should be quite similar for 3820TG, just vBIOS file names are different (see my previous link): Modify 6550m 5650m vBIOS (Chinese) OR Google translate (English)
And please, if you want to discuss this further, do so in http://forum.notebookreview.com/acer/562576-acer-aspire-timelinex-3820tg-mods-tweaks-only.html -

When I tested MedieEspresso there was an option to switch ATI Stream on/off and there was a significant difference in performance that proved it works.

Dear Sir Kizwan,
Can you help me in modding Acer 4740G BIOS v.1.09 to:
- Unlock and switch between Intel integrated graphics and the discrete G310M graphics?
- Fasten the heatsink fan speed even more? Because IIRC, since I moved from BIOS v.1.03 to v.1.07 and later, the fan speed had been slowed down and that makes my notebook temp hotter than when I was using the previous BIOS.
The BIOS v.1.09 file is here:
http://global-download.acer.com/GDF...ep3=Aspire 4740G&OS=722&LC=en&BC=Acer&SC=PA_6
Thanks in advance for your help. -
Hi Humble,
The Aspire 4740G doesn't have switchable graphics. For switchable graphics to work, it require extra component on the motherboard such as multiplexers.
FAN mod is not supported here. -
Your fan speed is changed because you updated KBC (Keyboard Controller)/EC (Embedded Controller) firmware. EC/KBC is responsible for interpreting keyboard keystrokes, controlling fan speeds, monitoring temperature of CPU/GPU, monitoring/changing the battery, etc.
If you want "old" fan speeds, just flash to old KBC firmware. Be warned though, there seem to have been quite a few important fixes over the firmware revisions, just check DOS\KDARELS.TXT file in BIOS update folder.
How to flash your KBC/EC firmware:
1. Download BIOS 1.03 update archive
2. Unpack to some folder.
3. Open folder DOS
4. Right click on ECWinFlash.bat and select "Run as Administrator".
5. It will flash EC firmware to old revision. No reboot is required.
If you want to move back to 1.09 KBC firmware, simply repeat the above procedure, except this time you work with 1.09 BIOS update archive.
Alternative method 1: Modify KBC/EC firmware
If you want to have the modified FAN table AND have the new KBC firmware revision, then you would have to disassemble the firmware file into assembly code, figure out how it works, do modifications, compile the assembly code, flash it. Unfortunately, neither I nor kizwan have the required skills to do this modification. It is also very time consuming.
Alternatively, if you are somewhat good with programming/modding, you could examine differences in revisions and figure out where the fan table was changed. Then you can just change the fan table values in new firmware and (IMPORTANT!) don't forget to correct checksum if there is one. Then just flash to the modded firmware.
Alternative method 2: Fan control software
Find fan control software that you can use to control the fan speed on your laptop. Your motherboard is used in the following Acer Aspire models:4740 5740 5745 4745 4740. If you can find fan control software that works on either of those models, then it will also work for you.
Good luck! -
First, thanks for the quick response.
So, is it also impossible to make the graphics switchable even via BIOS, because the lack of component that you mentioned above?
I mean, no need to be like Optimus (that switch the graphics on the fly), but more like desktop one, which when we want to switch from integrated graphics to dedicated one, we can reboot the system and do it via BIOS setting.
Thanks.
@prikolchik
That's a great additional info, Sir Prikolchik. I'll try to reflashing the KBC/EC firmware ASAP then.
Just to make sure, will it be allright to use KBC/EC firmware v.1.03 with BIOS v.1.09? Please confirm once more.
And about the two other methods...
For the first one, I have to admit that I'm no good in reassembling the firmware code. So, no way it can be done by me.
And for the second, I had tried some of many fan control softwares out there and it seems none of them fit my laptop well. I did try to find such kind of software for similar laptop that you mentioned above too, but having a hard time to find one till now.
Then I guess it leaves me no other choice, except to try the very first option that you suggested above.
Thanks a lot for your help, Sir. -
-
i didit..
I made a bios with BT on at boot in Acer5930
my mods switches also the BT when I plug AC cord in wallet or I unplug and use only Battery -
@Prikolchik:
I had done the KBC/EC firmware flashing as you directed, Sir, but it seems old firmware have no impact/ difference on the fan speed compared to the new one. Maybe it's just my feeling that the fan slowed down in the newer firmware and right now I begin to think that actually I need to clean the HSF phisically to lower the temp of my laptop.
Once more, thanks a lot for your help too. -
In that case, I recommend flashing back to newest EC firmware.
Oh, and I did look for fan control solutions for models that use same motherboard and did not find anything. Oh well! -
hello all,
here is whats happening
I have an acer extensa 5620-6389, had ubuntu on it, wife turn down the lid and now i cant get the laptop to turn on.
i plug in the power cord, press the power button, the power button turns green, hard drive flashes for a few seconds but screen dosnt turn on at all (stays black) then it shuts down by it self and 3 seconds later turns on by it self remaining on this time.
I have downloaded the latest bios for this form acer euro website and created the crisis recovery disk but that makes no difference except that if i put it in as a CD the laptop reads the cd for a few seconds, but with the USB it never even reads it. the usb was of course created as FAT and not FAT32. also i must mention that i am powering it on by first pressing the fn+esc and then the power while having fn+esc pressed as suggested in various forums.
I have searched for 3 days now, no clue so i am posting SOS now ... plz help! -
Hi bilaliz,
Your notebook problem doesn't caused by corrupted BIOS. You'll need to send your notebook for repair because it's look like hardware problem. You can also try test the RAM by pulling out one by one & test each slot but I don't think it's caused by bad RAM. -
Method:
- Use this CRISIS package: CRISIS DISK - Phlash16_v1.7.0.18_DiffSize.rar
1. Rename your notebook's BIOS image (*.WPH) to BIOS.WPH & put it in the WINCRIS folder (where WINCRIS.EXE is located)
2. Create CRISIS disk with USB key/flash drive using WINCRIS.EXE
3. Make sure there are three files in the CRISIS disk; minidos.sys, phlash16.exe & BIOS.WPH
4. Plug the USB storage into a USB port on the bricked notebook.
5. The bricked notebook must be in power OFF state. Plugged in the battery.
6. Press Fn + ESC button then plug in AC. (the powerbutton does NOT flash)
7. Press Power button to initiate system CRISIS mode. Release Fn+Esc keys after you see activity at the CRISIS disk.
8. After a few minutes (~2 or so) the system reboots, and then reboots again and loads into windows, install successful! (Please wait for 15 minutes. If after 5 minutes it doesn't restart itself, press the touchpad's right button & wait for 15 minutes. Do not press any key to prevent interrupting the recovery process.)
*bricked notebook means the notebook where you want to execute/test the CRISIS disk.
This successfully unlocks VT-d and some other options!
Great job, Kizwan!Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
quid posted some information for Phoenix UEFI BIOS Recovery at MyDigitalLife.
CRISIS disk preparation for Phoenix UEFI BIOS Recovery:-
- Prepare a removable USB storage device with a capacity size greater than
10 MB.
Note that all data on the USB storage device will be cleared during the
creation of the crisis disk.
- Set up a computer running the Windows XP or Windows Vista OS and plug
in the USB storage device into an available USB port.
- Use the text editor to create a file named startup.nsh with the following
contents.
- Copy the startup.nsh file and the following folder and files to the USB storage
device.
- Eject and reconnect the USB storage device, and make sure the files are
saved to the device.
That's it. Will update later when new information available. - Prepare a removable USB storage device with a capacity size greater than

Hi. I am new. I was wondering if there is a bios for my ASPIRE 5920G laptop that allows me to disable speedstep. Thank you for your time.

Acer aspire 5530G bios mod request, with all hidden menus, and settings possible, may be OC possibylities if possible for the processor amd turion rm-70, because setfsb dos not change frequency. The latest version of the BIOS is here: ftp://ftp.acer-euro.com/notebook/aspire_5530/vista/Bios/
Thanks -
I disabled speedstep with throttlestop after replacing the previous bios with your modified bios. And now, my CPU is running at half speed. What is going on? I thought disabling speedstep would equal the CPU running at 100% all the time.
