Set it before disabling SpeedStep? Did you set the multiplier to maximum?

Please look to this result on Aspire 5920G with T9500 processor. Yours probably has different processor. If yours has either T7100 or T7300 or T7500 or T7700, you can enable dual-IDA mode using Throttlestop.

Hey guys hows it goin. Just thought Id send a message to this thread because I have the Acer Aspire 4310 I have upgraded my ram to 2gb and processor to a core 2 duo t7200

Do you guys have a bios that enables speedstep and virtualisation?

I have the latest bios installed which is v1.18 you can download it from the Acer Europe FTP site here:

    ftp://ftp.work.acer-euro.com/notebook/aspire_4310/bios/v1.18.zip

Im a capable IT student but not too sure where to start as far as doing this myself. you guys should try to consolidate the important information in this forum on a sticky. Appreciate your work.

This is modified BIOS image for Aspire 4310. It's based on BIOS v1.18. Use at your own risk!
    Changes:-
    • Unlocked Virtualization option
    • EIST unlocked - There is no SpeedStep option in BIOS menu but I has unlocked EIST in BIOS. Therefore you can use Throttlestop to enable/disabled SpeedStep in windows.

    Hi guys!
I'd like to request a BIOS mod if possible. I have an Acer Aspire 5738G with modded bios (R2, based on 1.28).
The problem is, the CPU/GPU fan runs constantly. I have undervolted the processor, and when i'm idling, the CPU temp is 29-31C, the GPU (HD4650) is 40-42C, which is pretty good. But the fan runs constantly, and it's pretty loud, i have already tried some programs, AA1FanControl, ACFanControl, etc, but they don't work.
So, my question is, is that possible, modding the bios with lower fan speeds?

Re: Acer Aspire 9810 2005 1.21 No raid Kind Mod request.
    Source: http://global-download.acer.com/GDF...3506&Step1=NOTEBOOK&Step2=ASPIRE&Step3=ASPIRE 9810&OS=ALL&LC=en&BC=ACER&SC=PA_7

Further to previous post I would kindly submit to community for help in proving said bios that in reality is Q1 2005 experimental Bios "not for resale": for a 2000+USD dollar sold in 2007, probably after reconditioning after CES presentation, and in common with Toshiba one, released for 9800 (and not 9810) contrary to what happened for h(all same equipment Inventec Acer rebranded laptops). What is needed is not Slic or overboost but just tackle some evident problems. On boot the machine (this is the best stripped but badly cut off Bios version) in no quiet mode it throws TPM error, enumearates fro ages and finally halts waiting for a "Enter" to proceeed with Windows boot. What is lacking is a proper no quiet boot mode, SATA/RAID choice and option/suboption for enable/disable RAID, especially old fashioned ROM 5.7 version.
I managed to implement (problems of whitelist) Centrino compliant INTEL 4965AGN limited by BIOS to 65Speed only by taping PIN20 and the two others behind otherwise it would be accepted but reset at bext book or plugging/unplugging AC adapter....

Making a browsable ISO Image of the Recovery disk (see RYTOOLS) without installing/interefering with D2D Let know that many .cmd (i.e. killapps) deleted many programs for "reasons of space" such as Powerproducer and other. Similarly custom reg for license problems and limited Arcade Deluxe for federal warning about "The Gladiator"... just samples. Basically no proper Os is/was provided but just a snapshot of Vista RC that of course would never update properly....and no option on First Boot (or at recovery disk) to choose
    XPMCE as promised.

At the moment I managed to triple boot the machine win2k (enhanced to LBA at text setup level), Xp and MCE but of course they rely on buggy Bios much as the two Hitachi 7200 500GB disks (beware of 1TB that would not fit in). That of course are slow because operating in virtual IDE (MBR).

Applications and drivers for XP (hardly provided and not for all) often had to be found by PID (Proper Bluetoth by Acer owner Gateway but Lenovo is better) Let alone OS installation media, in the PC or recovery disks. Just snapshot of a RC version...

Finally FYI (aware that you have adverst for such products but the task is not demolish them rather improve ethic) many overheating issues on 2920 and same age produce notebook, ICH on Intel and even hiddenly declared on Win 2k for multiprocessor equipment by MS after some recent upgrade)
The poor not following Intel quidelines to reverse switch from SATA to IDE nearly caused a fire, brick of the PC etc since relying on a "funny" MBR and being pestered by Fixed Cached Bios. And risk of data loss. Sure of time since I had to swap disk to ensure data would be safe and reinstall.

Short, hoping you have some positive feedback also, I would appreciate some kind competent help on 9810 bios basic/error correcting as above as it should have been. It is never advertised it is a 1 OS centric laptop that is not updated in drivers and all and just abandoned in 1 year nearly. (last drivers date 2008 from a launch in 2007).

Of course, further to contact with Producer EMEA am filling a full report and will publish where appropriate/independent a detailed documented review.

May I underline that MS activation gives a problem of lease of a product rather than sale for good? Since Xp is going to expire in 2014 I guess it shoul dbe raised the issue. Just my 2 cents.

i will appreciate someone competent help to solve the problems, ready to share my experience, evidence and workarounds for having (Bios apart) a installation /proper drivers. Best Evidence is cut off Bluetooth driver that Lenovo provides in full (and Acer owner Gateway) even for win2k that is still very good expecially for backup/tackling mentioned above issues...

From the old disks I will dig the EISA partition to find more resources and so is the uncompressed backup disk to see for hidden switches, serial numbers for activation of codecs etc. Since you paid... Sorry but as someone suggested a 2000+USD/EUR can't be thrown away for a "bribe" sale. have you thougt of some people that do not own even a small PC , not necessarily only in Africa? Funny is that some drivers can be found digging in the Netbook section that - funny- support XP and 7 (skipping Vista) despite a Win7 upgrade Kit circulates. After Vista (that I bought Retail since Acer lacked provide it) and it's major OS screw (see lifetime) surely won't make sense to install C: centric (fyi Acer apps are C: centric so they will produce errors if you don't coorrect at registry level. Poor coding/mistakes is at the base of wide Bison webcam problems that many suffer on many models. Relying on NT and Video for Windows Rel 1.. remember? )Win7 relying on poorly secure/mantenance NTFS (try to delete all partitions and run a recovery program: All "safe" NTFS will be perfectly recovered....), 32 GB limited Fat32 to... run Xp in virtual mode. Does it make sense?

Sure of your kind uderstanding and relying on good will for help.

    Regards:

PS Prepare the text for posts in notepad and copy/paste or due to timeout you will have to retype all....

Sorry, there is no hidden option to change the memory speed. I don't know anything about AMD, so I can't give you any advice or suggestions. Aspire 7552G Notebook Series Specifications also stated this notebook only support DDR3-1066 memory.

All announced changes are working. But there is one bad moment, during a standing bluetooth, as the bud then pressed the power key, bluetooth. The problem manifests itself on both Windows XP and Windows 7. If you do not load the operating system that did not include bluetooth. Can I ispravt this bug?

Turn on the laptop, loaded the operating system at boot time activity indicators wi-fi and bluetooth active. Once the operating system boot disable wi-fi and bluetooth using the appropriate buttons. Activity indicators wi-fi and bluetooth disabled. After a short period of time (from 10 to 70 seconds) bluetooth activity light is active, ie bluetooth turn on its own, even if it again and again to disable.
I can lift a little video for clarity.

The BIOS was modded according to my preferences. I don't use Acer LaunchManager. The method I use to automatically enable the bluetooth device during boot probably caused it. Probably it's looping.

I need the Clevo W150HRM BIOS file. I noticed this is new notebook & probably don't have BIOS update yet. If that is true, you'll need to get a copy of current BIOS from reseller or Clevo.

EDIT: Please use the Universal BIOS Backup Toolkit to backup current BIOS to a file. Please note that using this method, you won't get full BIOS image but it's enough for me to check the VT-x. We can use different method to enable VT-x on your notebook.

I tried on my Aspire 9420 (Windows 7 64-bit). Installed Launch Manager 1.1.1.4. After booting into windows, the bluetooth device is automatically disabled right after Launch Manager service is loaded. After 10 to 20 seconds, the bluetooth device auto enabled. I disabled the bluetooth device again. Wait around 10 to 20 seconds & yes, bluetooth device does auto enable itself.

Regarding the modified BIOS, I modified the ACPI table a little bit to allow auto enable the bluetooth device while booting operating system. Very useful when dual-booting with linux. This means the function where I put the code to auto enable the bluetooth device is always running (loop).

If you worried with the security, you can disabled auto discovery mode in bluetooth software. I hope this helps.

First of al, I can't thank you guys enough for helping me out with my recently upgraded Asprie 9410z.

Due to your bios mod I can use VT technology which is incredible. I recently upgraded my old laptop even more with 4 gigs of RAM, unfortunately I can use only 3 of it thanks to a stupid bios limitation. On the POST screen it only maps 3 GB, I'm using windows 7 pro 64 bit dualboot with Linux mint 10 also 64 bit. Both operating systems only map 3 GB. Could somebody make a BIOS mod enabeling PEA or something that disables the memory lock-down?
I really liked the "BIOS_Aspire9420_VT_R5.rar", but it gave me a lot of trouble with my videocard drivers (especially 64 bit windows 7). I like the "BIOS_Aspire9420_VT.rar" one better because of that. Would the bios modder be so kind not to change the DSDT settings for this mod? I would really appreciate that.

    Thanks a lot!

P.S Please excuse my my bad English; I'm Dutch. It's a night and day difference in grammar. So if some sentences don't make sense; I'm sorry about that.

    Hi all,

I own a Acer Aspire 4750G Notebook and is equipped with "NVIDIA OPTIMUS TECHNOLOGY" capable Graphics Adapter and it have both "GeForce GT 540M CUDA with 1GB RAM" and the "Intel(R) HD Graphics Family" adapter.

Originally, the notebook came with Windows 7 Home Premium (64-Bit) but however since I don't like Windows 7, I downgraded it to Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 3 (yes, I know is old). However, even with the correct drivers installed correctly for the GeForce GT 540M, Windows XP still doesn't recognize the GeForce GT 540M correctly as seen from here:

    .

The problem is due to the lack of drivers for Windows XP for the "NVIDIA OPTIMUS TECHNOLOGY" and NVIDIA have confirmed that there will NOT be any drivers created to support that function for Windows XP. So I googled around and found out that the only way to resolve the problem is to disable either one of the Graphics Adapter inside the BIOS. I checked my Acer Aspire 4750G Notebook BIOS and found that is using "Phoenix SecureCore Tiano" BIOS and the version is 1.22 which can be seen from here:

    .

The current BIOS that I'm using does NOT have the function to let me do that. I just need the BIOS to be able to let me choose which Graphics Adapter to disable and that's it. I really hope that kizwan is able to help me to enable that feature for the BIOS that I'm currently using.

My Acer Aspire 4750G Notebook full specification can be found here:

Acer Support: Acer Aspire 4750G Notebook Series Specifications

and the Intel CPU that I'm using can be seen from here:

    .

I have the link to download the latest BIOS and here it is:

    http://global-download.acer.com/GDFiles/BIOS/BIOS/BIOS_Acer_1.22_A_A.zip?acerid=634368983260216556&Step1=Notebook&Step2=Aspire&Step3=Aspire 4750G&OS=721&LC=en&BC=Acer&SC=PA_6

Further old versions of the BIOS can also be found from here by selecting the appropriate notebook model:

    http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers

I really hope you can help me to fufill the function that I need for the BIOS.

    Thanks in advance!!!

I cannot see how there would be any value in disabling your IGP or GT540M with a Kizwan modded bios. The Optimus setup means there is no mux connecting the GT540M to your LCD. Optimus requires the Nvidia gpu to render then the IGP + Win7 to display to it so your GT540M cannot be used in Windows XP or Linux.

Disabling the IGP in the bios will simply not boot your system since the primary video device isn't active. Disabling the GT540M in the bios will mean it won't appear as an active device in your Device Manager, which you can just as easily do by right clicking on it and disabling it.

The 3GB issue is known problem on older chipset. ICH7M chipset is effected with this problem. If not all, some or most of ICH7M notebooks affected with it. This appeared to caused by TOLUD register. It's a 8-bit register defines the Top of Usable Dram. Graphic memory also defined under TOLUD register. Sorry, I can't explain it in detail on this issue because I only know a little bit about it. There is a workaround though. It's not easy & I don't know how to do it yet. You won't be able to claim all 4GB. At best you'll be able to claim more than 3GB (3.5GB or 3.75GB). Please read here for more information.

I already build another BIOS image (R9_4) without the cosmetic changes in the DSDT. You can find the modified BIOS at post #12.

    Changes:-
    • Removed cosmetic NVIDIA GPU sub-vendor ID in DSDT
    • Removed bluetooth auto-enabled code in DSDT (the auto-enable code prevent the bluetooth from turning off with the bluetooth button & Acer Launch Manager)
    • Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology (EIST) unlocked - can enable/disabled EIST in windows (to lock highest multiplier)

Clevo W150HRM use UEFI BIOS (also it's an AMI BIOS). Sorry, I don't have the solution yet to unlocked VT in this BIOS. I recommend you to return this notebook if the manufacturer unable to provide BIOS update with VT unlocked.

I thought we already left the dark ages. I guess not.

    Hi Nando,

Thanks for your reply. So that means the NVIDIA GPU is only a renderer while the IGP GPU (Intel in my case) is the one that will output the display to the LCD screen?

I want to disable the Intel GPU and not the GT 540M as you have mistaken, so as to "force" Windows XP to use only the GT 540M as I understand that there will not be any drivers coming out for Windows XP to support the NVIDIA OPTIMUS. I have previously tried disabling the Intel GPU to make Windows XP only see the GT 540M but it still didn't work (see attached image).

You are more than welcome to try. However, you'll soon find that if a bios was made to disable your IGP then your system wouldn't boot. The IGP is the *only* GPU that's wired to the LCD in an Optimus setup where your GT540M renders and uses the IGP as an output device. Win7 is the only OS with the APIs available to do such a setup. XP and Linux users have found out they don't have accelerated graphics if they bought an Optimus system.

If you want faster graphics on XP then consider a DIY ViDock (via mPCIe slot on your Acer), sell your system for one that uses ATI switchable (mux) graphics.

Or you could just use Windows 7 with Optimus to put your GT540M to use.

This is an illustration how Nvidia Optimus work:-
    [IMG]
The IGP also act as a display controller to output the frames to the display. If IGP is disabled, there is no route for the Nvidia to output the frames to the display.

This is an illustration of standard switchable graphics:-

It use mux which provides switching of multiple inputs. With this you can disabled IGP & use discrete GPU as primary video card.

After doing more research and googling, I now understand how OPTIMUS works.

I think I will go ahead with Windows 7. I'll just have to convince myself to like it.

Thanks nando4 and Kizwan for all your help. Really appreciate it.

    Hi !
thanks for all your work. I looked around but didn't find any answer:

I have an Acer Aspire 9410z and I flashed successfully the Phoenix bios with yours (R9_4) but I can't see how to activate AHCI mode ?

Is there a way to do it ?

    thank you

The motherboard do not support AHCI. The first port is SATA while the second port is PATA (DVD drive connected to this). They are in " combined function mode" where AHCI mode is not available.

I've flashed it and it works well . but after I change the PCI Express Root Port setting under PCH Control Sub-Menu, the bluetooth still not open . Could you tell me the exact settings? Which power state should I select? L1 or auto or sth others? hot plug on or off?

Not all Aspire 3820TG are equipped with bluetooth device. If the bluetooth device is not detected in Device Manager, after enabling it using the bluetooth button (required Launch Manager), your notebook is not equipped with the bluetooth device.

No. Please use this method to auto-enabled bluetooth on startup. Change the " PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_002E" to " USB\VID_0CF3&PID_3002". Create a .BAT file & put in Startup folder.
