Ok so I have a AS7741G-7017 with a locked down bios. Would it be possible to mod this bios?
Thank you -
Kizwan you are a god my friend
Thank you -
I am new to BIOS mods .. and got dragged here by a need to install virtualization on linux and then realizing that acer has blocked this off deliberately.
My laptop is acer 5920 (and not 5920G) and after applying your VT mod .. I see no difference and cannot see the VT menu pictured here. I upgraded my BIOS to 3813 (from 3811) from acer BIOS just before doing this. I have stopped short of trying your R2 and R3 mods to first confirm that these mpods should also work on 5920
Being as both laptops are more or less the same I am surprised it has not worked .. Any suggestions
I was mighty pleased to come by your post .. you are doing something great sharing what you have learnt .. Thanks a million for that. -
What processor do you have? Did you check on Intel website for the processor specification? I think it is not VT-capable processor.
-
Kizwan & Bob12x .. you guys rock .. really impressive info you have provided here ..
Kizwan, my earlier failures at flashing an acer 5920 (not 5920G) were cured by flashing in DOS mode .. I flashed Kizwan's version 3 mod he posted for 5920 somewhere else, and I can see so many extra (menus revealed in BIOS .. but unfortunately, there is still no option for VT showing up in my BIOS. I have run securable, and it confirms the system is capable of Vt but it is being blocked off.
I have just seen the following from bob12x:
-
I read somewhere that it was .. and been on a wild goose chase trying to make it work ..kizwan said: ↑What processor do you have? Did you check on Intel website for the processor specification? I think it is not VT-capable processor.Click to expand...
Just gone and taken a look at Intel® Core?2 Duo Processor T5550 (2M Cache, 1.83 GHz, 667 MHz FSB), and it really is not VT capable .. DAMN ..
That leaves me with considering UEFI options for using KVM virtualization on this laptop .. thanks for pointing that out, and saving me the time I would have devoted towards messing around with PBE and all of that. -

It would be great if you can do it again with the newest version(I think it's the lastest because the laptop gets old in the age of 2nd-gen-Intel-cpus)

@goondaba: No T5xxx-series CPU will ever give you VT. T7xxx is the minimum.
@kizwan: You may want to put this (that T7xxx+ is needed for V) in the OP of this thread. Complains come in almost weekly about VT not working with T5xxx or lower CPUs. -
T5600 support VT-x.

.NetRoller, yeah that is a great suggestion .. would have saved me plenty of time .. but no regrets, I learnt some new things, which is always good..NetRolller 3D said: ↑@goondaba: No T5xxx-series CPU will ever give you VT. T7xxx is the minimum.

My focus is on OS/virtualization/storage (SAN, NAS), so I have sought alternatives to using KVM which I was kinda desperate to use on this laptop ..
You guys have a great set of folks in this forum .. thanks for all your help .. -
OK. Added a reminder at first post - always check the CPU specification on Intel or AMD website. Intel & AMD usually provide very accurate CPU specification. In the Intel T5000 series CPU, only T5600 does support VT-x.

You should make a pdf tutorial on how to unlock the menus.

Yep, I tried that and have since wrecked the bios! Now computer wont start at all - am trying Fn + Esc with bios in flash drive but nothing seems to work as I changed the other graphics settings underneath the UMA options to something weird (not the UMA vram choices), um Kizwan how do I flash another bios to recover my currently dead computer - Man I really shouldn't screw around with my computer so much......It's Fn + Esc with the bios in a particular format for Aspire 6530 but I'm not sure what the exact bios names should be - should I disconnect the power cables or something to reset the bios - Ye Gods...kizwan said: ↑Hi Nemoaristos, look like you can't increase the shared video memory. Last time you said it doesn't cause any problem, even though it doesn't do anything. Now it wrecked? At post #1723, specifically at the end of the post, I explain " If your computer doesn't boot after changing something in the sub-menu, you will need to disconnect the CMOS/RTC battery to reset CMOS back to default. To do so, you will need to open your notebook casing." where "open your notebook casing" means you'll need to disassembled your notebook.

Hi kizwan,
My new CPU is on my desk
P9700 WINS
This is it
Is it possible for you, when you'll work on my bios, to add microcode update etc for this? Have I to follow a different procedure in the forum?
I will wait to put the CPU in until upgraded the bios, avoiding disassembly and reassembly entire notebook several times.
Have a nice day!!
P.s. SSD and thermal paste arriviiiiiiiiiiing

Intel P9700 CPUID is 1067Ah. CPU Microcode Update for CPUID 1067Ah already exist in original BIOS. So, no need to add Microcode Update into BIOS.

hi
i install you bios of 5738g v1.28 to enable the visualization but it didn't appeared so can you guide me how to on that -
Does anyone can help me please????
I have acer aspire one D150 and i flash-it with wrong bios file.
After that, my computer cannot start anymore.
I tried to plug stick with flash files in my PC and pan when I plug power cable connector in it, USB blink once and than nothing.
I try to use Fn+Esc + Power, nothing happened. I cannot make PC any way to start either to power led start or anything.
Is there anything i can do about this??? Please help me. -
It is not a good sign, You need to look into recovery bios files.
I have never (fortunately) had this problem, So I can't offer lots of help. You need to look into a Crysis disk. It is always worth checking several times the file is right before checking.
I have looked around and it seems that flashing yourBIOS is not a easy task by any means and unless you followed the manual it WILL fail even if you used the right BIOS file.
I have found a guy who has fixed it, It wasnt cheap either PM if you want the link. I dont want to link another forum and I wanna give the guys here who know more than me a chance to offer assistance.
Also you have joined just for an answer and have never had any input into this forum so as to wether you will come back is debatable too.
Here is your manual
page 111 + (I think) explains the CMOS procedure as well as jumper settings.
Good luck. -
If you're referring for donation, I can't request such thing in this forum. It is not allowed - see forum rules. If you still want to give me something, you can contact me via PM or email. BTW, sorry the modified BIOS not ready yet. I'm a bit busy with real life on December.Makhaira said: ↑Thanks kizwan. Would you like anything in return?Click to expand...
Please check on Intel website for your CPU specification. E.g. If the CPU is Intel Core 2 Duo T5600, just google for T5600. The first hit should look like this:-preciouslogic said: ↑hi

- Format USB flash drive with FAT filesystems.
- Put the file (KAV10.fd) in USB flash drive.
- Plug the USB flash disk into a USB port on the bricked notebook.
- Press Fn + ESC button then plug in AC power.
- Press Power button to initiate system CRISIS mode.
- The process can take one to two minutes to complete.

I was curious if the modded bios would unlock any options for the mini PCI-e functon?
I suspect that ACER have implemented something into the BIOS to stop it from turning on WiFi Radio for a Bigfoot wireless adapter. I currently have to keep old card in the machine to keep radio on. -
Acer don't whitelist devices in BIOS and you notebook and its BIOS is way older than the card in question so it's not possible for them to have blocked
this specific card for some reason.
Have you checked the card in another notebook to verify that it even works? -
Thanks for posting.
The card was removed from a older laptop, The card is less than 6 months old. I am currently using as we speak to surf etc. t appears in device manager and also is recognised during the installation of the oftware utility and the drivers. It is diagnosed as the radio is off when a network check is run.
The only way I can get it to work is to put the original intel wifi spare PCI-e slot and this enables the radio to turn on.
I have even covered PIN 20 on the Cards pin out to keep radio on. THis didnt work either.
here is my thread regarding the issues raised. I only posted here in regards to the BIOS. have also posted on Bigfoot forums and they arent very supportive as apparently they are only available on systems from the manufacturer.
I have just received a post also highlighting that its pretty odd to be whitelisted.
im confused now

Thanks for the info!
Be i5-560M and i5-580M also supports about the Acer 8942G with your Biosmod?
I want to collect a list of supported CPU ...
List:
i3-330M
i5-430M
i5-450M
i5-560M ?
i5-580M ?
i7-720QM

It's not up to the BIOS whether the CPU is supported or not. It actually depend on the hardware. ^nox successfully upgraded from i3-330M to i7-820QM on Aspire 8942G. ErikO also successfully upgraded the CPU to i7-920XM on Aspire 8942G. I'm very sure any Intel Core i CPU will work on Aspire 8942G.

Does the Acer 8942G models with a different motherboard?
With other CPU slot...?

I realized there are some confusion regarding CPU Microcode Update. CPU Microcode Update only help CPU to work in optimum level (or according to Intel specification). Whether the CPU is supported or not , is not CPU Microcode Update job. On Acer support website, Acer released one BIOS file for all Aspire 5738G notebooks. It doesn't say whether the BIOS file is for ATI Radeon HD 4570 or Nvidia Geforce GT330M or Intel GMA graphic card. CRISIS disk support depend on the BIOS Boot Block support & as far as I know, it should work on Aspire 5738G notebooks.Last edited by a moderator: Feb 6, 2015 -

In my intention, the first request was: can you unlock menus in the orginal bios that is 100% locked? Are there hidden menus?
Specifically, I'd like to enable virtualization if it's locked..
If you can (you want, have time, etc.)mod it, ok. You don't "have" to.. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
I won't ask it again.
Have a nice day -
I will unlocked the hidden menus after you have successfully upgrade the processor. Virtualization (VT-x) is enabled by default in the BIOS. So, when you put P9700, VT-x will be enabled & usable. There are other hidden menus, low level settings, which to be honest, for most people not actually useful/needed for day-to-day computer usage/operation. You maybe not "most people". So, if you don't have any specific requirement/needs, the C-states & Intel SpeedStep menu might be useful. Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology (EIST) most probably locked 1. So, will need to mod the BIOS to unlocked EIST. When EIST is unlocked, you can bump [email protected] to 2.97GHz (with both cores active - dual-IDA). These all sound interesting but when the modded BIOS will be available? That's why I wait for you to finish upgrade the processor first. Hopefully by then, I will have time to work on the BIOS.
 1 Enabled/disabled & unlocked/locked are not the same.Last edited by a moderator: Jan 29, 2015 -
