According to everything I've read since yesterday is that the BIOS needs to be flashed in order to get the laptop working correctly. At first it had the lines and such across the screen. I updated the BIOS from the update on the Acer site and now when I power on the laptop it loads up but the screen is black.

If you have problem with the screen, it is not related to BIOS at all. I don't understand how you can make a conclusion BIOS is the source of the screen problem.

I'm going to assume "...when I power on the laptop it loads up but the screen is black..." means windows does boot up. What you need to do is obtain a working BIOS & create a DOS bootable disk. Put phlash16.exe & BIOS file in the bootable disk. Also create autoexec.bat file in the bootable disk. Put this in autoexec.bat:-
    Code:
    phlash16.exe /x BIOS.WPH
Change BIOS.WPH to correct filename. Next, you need to remember how to invoke notebook to boot with the bootable disk. When it is booting with the bootable disk, you will here beeps from your notebook indicating it flashing the BIOS. Don't interrupt while it beeping.

BIOS recovery will not fixed blank screen problem because they are not related. Probably you got faulty display or motherboard.

BIOS recovery only needed if BIOS is corrupted, and BIOS doesn't corrupted by itself. The only time it can get corrupted is when unsuccessful BIOS update happen.

I'm sure you can download BIOS for your notebook here: Support Download

Kizwan I was wondering. Do you do BIOS mods as well for Asrock P67 Pro3 SE?

It is UEFI. But I was wondering if you can add LLC to my menus?

    ASRock > Products > Motherboard > P67 Pro3 SE > Download

I would like to pay you very much if you succeed. I can't go higher than 4.1 ghz... I was hoping with LLC it would work.

Good day sir, i have acer 4750g laptop, ask i observe, i got problems while gaming and the problem is the cpu speed problem which is not stable, i read in some forums that i should disable speedstep but there is no way to disable that feature or whatever solution is, i want to request for a solution that will come up, i hope there would be a solution for me to have my clock speed not to go down lower than 2.3GHZ since it is the base clock speed that overclocks up to 2.9GHZ. Thank you so much, hoping for your reply..

That 2.9ghz is for single core turbo, your dual core turbo gets to 2.6ghz.
Any way.. you dont have unlocked multiplier so you cant get faster speeds unless you upgrade your cpu.

For 200 euro you can get a 2.8ghz dual core with 3.5ghz single core turbo.

Actually sir, i don't need faster cpu clock speed, what i need is stable cpu clock speed, i am saying is that the multiplier change always and was going down upto 798MHZ for about seconds, I just want a stable cpu clock speed with a base of 2.3GHZ, and sir it actually has the capability to turbo boost upto 2.9GHZ as monitored..

It's Load-Line Calibration. You can Google the word. It prevents spikes in the vcore when overclocking :).

I have issues with my board with spikes going up to 1.41v while max safe would be 1.35v according to some people

    EDIT:

My max overclock is now 4.4ghz @ 1.33v with 1.36v spikes
    @ 4.5ghz i require 1.35v with 1.41 spikes I don't like.

Load line calibration would reduce the spikes. So t is safer :)

@ragekevin: don't worry. put power profile in windows at high performance. What you want to achieve is not possible. :) But my suggestion is the best you can do.

Sure, I'll take a look later.
Sorry, I can't help you. If you experience sudden lags & FPS drop in games, probably CPU is overheating. You might want to re-apply thermal paste.

Sir kizwan, i have core temps and it doesnt even go higher than 70% so i think the cpu is not overheating, it is said that it is because of speedstep feature to save energy that makes the cpu speed drop and disabling it might solve the problem, but there is no option in the bios and in the power management.. thank you..

    Hello kizwan,

you can fix for the Acer Aspire 8942G bios ( Aspire 8942G 3109 Microcode MOD-TEST R4.rar),
so that I can boot from USB stick?
    It does not work.
    Just boot disc works.
    I have installed the i5 450M 2.4GHz.
I've heard a lot changed in the BIOS, to no avail ...
The BIOS has a bug there!

Booting from a USB stick does not work with any version of BIOS for the Acer Aspire 8942G!

    Thank you.

    Cheers :)

    Hello,

According to Acer Support: TravelMate 3010 Series Specifications , TravelMate 3010 is equipped with Intel® Core? Duo Processor T2300 (2M Cache, 1.66 GHz, 667 MHz FSB) . This processor does support VT-x. However, this is 32-bit CPU. Even if VT-x is enabled, you can't install 64-bit guest OS.
Make sure in Power Options \ Advanced Settings, set both "Minimum processor state" & "Maximum processor state" to 100%. Then use ThrottleStop, set "Clock Modulation" to 100%. This works for me in reducing CPU throttling. This method does improved performance a lot.
    Hello searcher?,

I don't think I can help you on this issue. Sorry. Does all Aspire 8942G owner also experience the same problem?
Technically memory remapping already enabled. This is known issue on Intel 945PM/GM notebook. The reason why only 3GB is usable from 4GB is because TOLUD is set too low. This is complex mod because if we want to increase TOLUD, we need to re-allocate some PCI resources. I don't think I can do it. Even if I can do it, you mostly will only be able to use max 3.5GB from 4GB of RAM.

    Hello Kizwan

My CPU indeed does support VT-x. It is an Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T9900.

    Intel® Core?2 Duo Processor T9900 (6M Cache, 3.06 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB)

BIOS installed is the latest version v.1.17
and its using Insyde H20. The service guide clearly describes how to access the Advanced CPU menu, however, this is not visible.
    Thanks for your help.

    Hello Patrck_744,

It is done. You can find the modded BIOS at post #1684. Make sure your notebook already running with the original BIOS (728BV13S.ISO) before flashing this modded BIOS. Please let me know if you use this modded BIOS.

If you want to know what are the changes from 728BV12S to 728BV13S, these are some changes that I can see:-
    1. CPU Microcode Update
      • CPUID 0106A5h - updated from revision 11 to 16
      • CPUID 0206C2h - updated from revision 13 to 14
    2. Updated Phoenix BIOS Power Management Support (MISER)
      • A platform-configurable, BIOS-based, Run-Time power management that provides full Energy Star support for power management of CPU, hard disk, monitor, and any combination of power-managed devices.

No news yet on unlocking Load Line Calibration or LLC on Asrock P67 Pro3 SE ?

    I will pay you ten euro's :)!

I will look into it myself probably one of the next days. But I rather have someone do it with experience like you.

Asrock P67 Extreme or Z68 Extreme series have this option visible. I read Load Line Calibration is set to level 5 on my motherboard, which means disabled. If I can get this option. I can lower my CPU voltage by 0.050v or more :) !

If you don't have time could you point me into the direction what tools I need to mod this UEFI BIOS safely? I only worked with Phoenix Tool in the past.

If the option is not unlockable in the menu, I must know where the UEFI defaults are stored. Maybe I can change it there with a little luck.

    Thanks!

Asrock P67 Pro3 SE have AMI Aptio BIOS. AMIBCP that usually can open AMI Aptio BIOS failed to open this BIOS. You may ask help somewhere else, e.g. BIOS-MODS. I need time to look into this. However, the "LLC" or "Load Line Calibration" string does not exist in the BIOS.

    Hey, Kizwan.

I have an Acer Aspire 5920-6313 with the latest BIOS release on the Acer website. Do you have any mod to the BIOS that allows me to access tools for overclocking, ie. Speedstep, Fan Control, FSB, Multiplier Editing, etc...

No. Such feature usually only available in gaming notebooks. In mainstream notebooks, manufacturer do not bother to add such function in the BIOS. For overclock, you need 3rd party tool like SetFSB.

I was able to open it with the latest version of AMIBCP that I could find (4.53), found here:
    UPDATE 14 JAN: CLEVO P170HM3 (incl. Aptio MMTOOL 4.5 & AMIBCP 4.53)

I couldn't find LLC (I dont even know what it is). All I could find was "Load Optimized CPU OC Setting".
Lots of other cool settings there though.

thanks moral hazard. I downloaded AMIBCP,

I tried it on my BIOS and noticed some things that are not present in my BIOS menu. Even they are set as shown in AMIBCP

Does anyone here know how I can update my microcode?

I noticed my microcode is from 6 JAN 2011

I tried it... Now my computer doesn't boot anymore. It doesn't even seem to power on

Any ideas what I can do ?

Updating microcode is easy but I'll let you do it yourself. The microcode can be found in 17088572-377F-44EF-8F4E-B09FFF46A070_0_8.ROM. You can download microcode update at Intel website. Then use the tool included in this post to extract the microcode updates from .dat file. Please go to post #1255 to learn the microcode update header field description.

EDIT: What happen? If you read last couple of post, you'll know AMIBCP can produced bad image. Did you follow moral hazard advice when modding your BIOS? AFAIK, Asrock motherboard doesn't have BIOS recovery mode. The only way to fix it by using "hot flash" method but you'll need another identical motherboard.

I inserted the correct microcode file I extracted from microcode.dat. I did this with microcodedecode.rar package I found on google.

My BIOS had 6A7 patch of 2000 size and the one I applied was 2400. I removed the old patch and inserted mine.

I did it in AMI MM Tool from the link above, not AMIMCB.

I thought I might give it a shot. Because my N5110 has also 2400 microcode update size. And it is also AMI. Apparently I was wrong about trying it.

MMtool gives me the same corruption as AMIBCP when saving the bios.

If you can manage to get your notebook back up and running, try modding the bios with a hex editor.

There are a lot of FFs at the end of 17088572-377F-44EF-8F4E-B09FFF46A070_0_8.ROM file. Since the original microcode is 2000h bytes & the new one is 2400h bytes, you should shift the next microcodes to 400h bytes, overwriting 400h bytes of FFs.

    Hi,
Thanks everyone for the great jobs you did.

    I'm acer aspire 9420 user (1.24 mod R9 v4)
I tried to change realtek 8168 pxe rom with gpxe using phoenix bios editor :)

When i have loaded the bios to editor it gave me some errors
an unsupported module class * was found at offset E4E37
an unsupported module class 'H' was found at offset D15CB
an unsupported module class 'K' was found at offset CCCBC
an unsupported module class 'Q' was found at offset C4C6F

Anyway I skiped it all. In the editor I changed the oprom3.rom with gpxe.rom (the latest one) under "option rom" menu.

I tried to flash with winphlash but an error occurred. it didn't even flash it.

    So what is my wrong?
Do you think upgrade the acer 9420 mod with gpxe? :)

Unfortunately vt-x doesen't work with vmware workstation 8!
    I keep the testing bios

    Thanks in advance...

    Hi Kizwan,

I have been reading previous post looking for any bios mod for acer 5560g, reason I was looking for a mod is for me to check if my computer is set to shutdown when reaching 60 degrees Celsius,

The original issue that I have with my computer is that, I have installed some games, (battlefield 3, skyrim, company of hereos, dawn of war II) and whenever I tried to play them my computer just shuts down, it shuts down after a few seconds when I start playing.

just got this computer this month and it is supposed to be a mid range notebook and yet it does not allow me to play games even if the graphics are set to low

I have used hardware monitor and the max temp of the cpu and graphics is only at 60 degrees Celsius, I am not sure if the bios is set to shutdown whenever it reaches that temp

Is there any reason you want to update the PXE rom? What do you mean VT-x doesn't work with VMware Worsktation 8? Do you have Intel Core 2 Duo T5600?
You should use your warranty. Clearly something is wrong with your notebook. Don't fixed it yourself.
