    @u6b36ef

    Thank you for your thoughts

    Just to clarify

The bios flashed with no problem (i have the extra menus in bios) and the old 9500m gs works when installed in the laptop. so i know there isnt an issue with bios.

once i remove the old card and replace it with the new card 9600gt card the system just hangs at post (no bleeps).

my first thoughts is the bios is still not configuered for the new card so it doesnt know what to do with it, or the graphics card bios is not confiquered correctly.

I am also debating to replace the motherboard with the 9300g which gives you get an added bonus of DD3 RAM and faster processor and the Graphics card will just fit in... do you know if is this worth it?

    any further ideas?

    @ Stephenl9,

    I'd say look at:

    1. Flash to NetRolller's first 8920 BIOS fix.
    2. Consider you may have a defective 9600M GT.

I recently bought a 9600M GT which turned out defective so it got returned. It did worse than not post, it shorted power to the laptop, and made the power adapter light blink. They show all kinds of smyptoms. (Yours could be faulty.)

I still have a copy of the first version of Net's 8920 SBIOS fix backed up. I think I got version 2 here aswell, but like I said I never flashed it.

    One is called:
    V116_SLIC_MXM.ROM

    The other is called:
    Aspire_8920G_1.16_MXM_SLIC21_AdvMenu_V2.ROM

    I am confused however.
The version available online is V116_SLIC_MXM.ROM, if you follow Net's link from page one.
I thought that was version 1.
I thought the V2 edition was version 2. Maybe NetRolller 3D took down the second version because of the failings with the 5920 V2.

The only difference I see is my copy is 1.063MB, and .NetRolllers current uploaded version appears as 1.4MB.

I can upload them if it helps. Hopefully, you'd be trying the version which I have running a 9600M GT. Remember they are both .NetRolller 3D's system BIOS's for the 8920, and I take no credit for them. (I am assuming .NetRolller 3D will step in anyway and tell you what is what.)

    Afterthought:
Actually like I said above, If you flash back to the Acer issue 1.16 BIOS it will run the 9600M GT. You will just miss the BIOS screen, because you won't see anything on the lcd until Windows starts loading. That will test your 9600M GT.

    Thank you!

    @ Obiwantiti,

Actually I am bit worried about this post I saw by Sol Vector; #1451 (permalink). http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus/316079-nw-upgrade-c90s-9600m-gt-512mb-ddr3-fixed-146.html
There is a suggestion there that there is a problem with the latest nVidia driver and the 9600M GT. I am running 285.62, and hadn't updated, so am OK. I'll be keeping an ear open for news. I guess you should look elswhere for an earlier version of the nVidia drivers.

    @ Stephenl9,

In my opinion your 9600M GT is dead. The Acer V1.16 would run it. If you don't believe me, you need to read this thread. There is news about the 6920 and 8920 in the early pages.

I now think it is a bad idea that I upload NetRolllers 2nd SBIOS for the 8920. I say that in the light that I think NetRolller might have taken it down, and left V1 up. Like I said you'll have to see if Netroller will advise you.

@saikek: Likely you have an HP blade card. For the HP blade version of the FX 770M, this can be fixed by flashing to the EliteBook 8530p VBIOS; but no notebook VBIOS is known for the 570M.

Your best bet is finding which GeForce card the 570M is equivalent to, and flashing to a VBIOS of that card.

@u6b36ef: I think the 2nd 8920G BIOS was the one I made together with the broken 5920G BIOS. I took it down because the 5920G BIOS was unbootable; believing it was due to my tool changes. Since then, I compiled other BIOSes (including the current 5920G BIOS) with the new tool, but the 8920G V2 BIOS is still untested.

    Hi guys,

Afflicted not to be passed by again by there earlier, but overloaded weekend…and I acknowledge that I did not work much on my subject… not serious all that. :D
Well this one being finished, I will be able to continue to work above…

I have to identify the number of indentification of this one… and my problem must come owing to the fact that at the base it was a version OEM with name INF: oem105.inf
and perhaps also with the problem which you describe (u6b36ef)… ;) Thank's for information

Tomorrow, I thus will work on the two (295.73 & 285.62)… and on both, one should agree to function.

Here are the news for today, therefore not large thing in fact but that has advanced in the reflexion… :D
I will tell you a little more with the next episode.

    Spend a good day, or a good evening… ;)

    @ .NetRolller 3D,

Yeh, that's exactly how I remember it with the "Version 2's" of the 5920 and 8920 system BIOS's.

Can I ask though is it 100% sure that you can flash the GeForce (M) vBIOS to the equivalent Quadro FX-M. Like with the same transistor count, unified shader count, clock timings, and same ram type size, etc. I do think I have read that it can be done, but for sure I'd be nervous about bricking a card. E.g. I think I saw it said an FX770M can flash to a 9600M GT, and vice-versa. I think they have the same core number G96M in the case of the 9600M GT/FX770M. (Don't people sometimes say the equivalents are physically identical cards?)

+ @ saikek: The FX 570M is like the 8600M GT, I am quite sure.

    @ goodbuy,

Sorry, I nearly forgot to add; you're welcome.

@u6b36ef: Yes, 9600M GT can be flashed to FX 770M and vice versa. (However, this doesn't actually convert a Geforce into a Quadro or the other way around; the Windows driver always detects the actual hardware.)

In fact, not even shader count is a problem; FX 3600M (64 shaders) can be flashed to 9800M GT (96 shaders) VBIOS - unfortunately, this doesn't actually unlock 32 extra shaders. The only things that must match are the core type (G92 for the 3600M, G96 for the 770M) and the RAM type (DDR2, GDDR3 or JEDEC-DDR3)

Ok, thank you, didn't find it yet, but I'll keep looking. Unless you have a quicklink of course.

    My other question remains:
Because of the message: 'cannot open bios' in the dos-mode flashing as described above. I want to double check: Is the Bios ,(the wpa file i downloaded twice from here), valid?

AFAIK the DOS flasher requires the BIOS file to be called "BIOS.WPH".

I have written some parts of the articels here but I´m not really sure if the 9920 works fine with a geforce 9600gt.

My 9920 is now 3 years old and has the 2nd 8600gt. In this week some flashing blackscreens are showing which is a sign that maybe in the next few weeks the card will be down (had this error also with the first card before they was broken). I have garantee on the card but the problem will apper maybe in the next few months again. Therefor I search for a "final" solution. The 9600gt should not have such problems than the 8600gt have?

I have looked to ebay and found some 9600gt cards with 512MB DDR3 Ram. Here the link:

Nvidia GeForce 9600M GT GS 512MB DDR3 MXM upgrademonkey sale ! | eBay

could such a card be modded to work in the acer 9920? If so, what should one has to do to get the card working with the laptop (and working internal display). Has anyone a 9920 with a modded graficcard? Which problems can appear? Are there other solutions or graficcards avalible?

Sorry for the bad english, I´m german and there are no german pages were one can get this answers. So it seems that you are uniqe ;). Hope you can help me.

The card should be moddable, but keep in mind that this is an ES card, so you may run into other issues. OTOH it is rev. C1, which is unaffected by Bumpgate (the issue plaguing GeForce 8xxx and early-made 9xxx cards).

    Hi guys,

Afflicted not to have a news to you earlier, but you know what are worries of the life of each and everyone… and especially preoccupations with a health. :(
Thus I come to announce to you that my GF 9600M GT GDDR3 512 functions with wonder, on my 5720ZG… :D

That with Nvidia Driver Verde 295.73, modified by my care and according to your councils (taken here and there on different posts), large thank you with all the contributors who will recognize themselves. ;)

Large thank you to NetRoller3D, which made and makes a remarkable job!! In the same way for u6b36ef, which brought the good reflexions and indications to me. :D
    With a 3Dmark results of 5876, for a temperature of 45°C (ArticS5) in workload normal and 68°C with full load… :D

It remains me to work on the last Verde driver 296.10 and to test it…
I would hold you informed of the continuation.

Thus continue kind, you are chiefs!! ;)

    Hi guys

Could you help me (and more espcially .Netroller 3D The Great! héhé) to choose an appropriate 9600mgt card for my poor little 9920g, that having a hard time with its rotten 8600m gt (baked over 4 time since my last post...).

I say "an appropriate" 9600 mgt, because I have heard there are "romless" versions of this card, that can't be flashed! For instance, is this card :

eBay | Nvidia GeForce 9600M GT 512MB DDR3 MXM II UK

would be Ok for installing while flashed with the vbios proposed by .netroller 3D? Otherwise, what are the options other than 8600m gt?

Thanks in advance for your guidance!

PS : I have already installed the SBios with success!

Yes, this 9600M GT should be flashable.

(ROM-ress 9600M GTs are very rare - the only known machine with one is the Compal JHL90.)

If you will buy a 9600gt could you inform me if it works well? I can´t buy such a card this month (no money, poor student :p) but I´m also very interested in this theme. So please write your experience.

    Hi guys,

@.Netroller : Thank you for your answer, and for all your hard work! Thanks to you, one day for sure a mighty 9600m gt will shine under the heatspread (such a performance) of my 9920g. I have a last question to submit :

I ve got a choice between two 9600 models :

    - VG.9PG06.006
    - VG.9PG0Y.005

I've checked the references for both cards, and the only difference lies in a specification named
    - INTERSIL POWERIC (for VG.9PG06.006)
    - and MPS PowerIC for (VG.9PG0Y.005).

It is also that the 96P06 stands for a MSI card, and 9PG0Y for a Yuan one. Ohh, another thing, the 9PG0Y is 20 euros cheaper than the 96P06 one... Do you have any suggestion on which model I should choose between the two? Thanks a lot for your help, if you can light me!

@metzelmax : What? You want my 9920g to turn into a guinea pig? Even after its VGA had been burnt to death 5 times (last time, no more than 1 hour ago, I'm fed uuuuuuup!!). For sure, of course, I will give you feedback about my experiment, hoping that it will work soon! It will be my little contribution to spread the mxm knowledge around the laptop world!!! (héhé)

Thank you again for your answer :

PS : The two Ebay auctions, for information, if it can help :

    eBay | Carte MXM NVIDIA 9600M GT G96-630-A1 VG.9PG06.006 DDR3 512MB ACER 5930G

    and

    Hi guys,

I need help with my 8920g graphic card upgrade...

    I've purchased used, 100% working (from 8930G), nvidia 9600m GS, VG.9PG0Y.004
    vbios: 62.94.4A.00.12

My old card nvidia 9500m gs is dead so I've done a blind flash with modded sbios but the problem still remains (no post on internal lcd, only on external display, when windows load everything works fine). I've checked the bios and I have Workaround Control Sub-menu under the MAIN tab so I suppose I've flashed the modded sbios correctly.
I have repeat the hole process but with the same results.

    Any ideas?

Do I need to flash other version of vbios?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I didn't find any vbios version for 9600m gs on the net.
Can I flas vbios for 9600m gt on my card?

I found one on techpowerup.com from nvidia manufacturer (because from Acer manufacturer only has for DDR3 cards) for 9600m gt 1gb DDR2.

    Thanks .NetRolller 3D!

Yes - keep in mind though, that the GT BIOS will overclock your card to GT speeds. If that scares you, use NiBiTor to edit the clock rates to match your old BIOS.

    Hi all,

@Netroller : Sorry for disturbing you again, but I'm afraid that the auctions I have indicated on the last post will not last long... So I'd really appreciate you could give your advice about my questionings, so that I can decide myself rather quickly... many, many thanks in advance for the time you could take for this!

I've flashed the mentioned vbios version but know I have blank screen when windows load (I can hear windows startup sound)

So I blindly flashed my old vbios version wich I backup before flashing the new one and now my screen again works when windows load.

Do you have any other vbios version suggestion?
    Thanks!

Try the 9650M GT VBIOS. (Mod the clocks with NiBiTor first - the 9650M GT is much higher clocked than the 9600M GS, and your card may not be able to run at 9650M speeds.)

I've flashed my card with 9650M GT (clocks changed in niBitor as per your instructions) vbios and now my screen shows some artifacts on the beggining and then screen is changing colours (white, red, green, blue....and over again all the time).
I've also tried with vbios 9600M GT from Asus but screen is completely black.
Is there anything else I can try?

    Thanks again.

    Hi guys
This is my first post but I have read almost everything in this thread.
I've just upgrated my 6920g with 9600M Gt but the no post issue persist even after flashing with the moded BIOS from first page. Is it good idea using the 8920's bios? I can see the post on an external screen but not my laptop's. Apart from that all works perfectly. Any ideas how this can be fixed?

    Hi guys,

As promised, I came back to give my feedback about installing a 9600m gt on an acer 9920g... bad feedback, unfortunately!

I hav bought this 9600m gt model : VG.9PG0Y.005. It was in a "new" condition, so it was safer for me.

    - At first, I have installed the card without flashing with VBios provided by .Netroller3D : I ve got a very bad but still hardly readable display on the laptop screen. I managed to go to the ubuntu loading page (displayed with bad color), and after, no answer. I tried in this configuration on an external screen, and this time, everything displayed with good colors, I was able to log on, and ubuntu office arrives t last! But, alas, after 3 minuts of use, there was a freeze, and I have to reboot...

    - So, I draw the Vbios .netroller3D, flashed it without a hesitation (after saving the old bios, nevertheless), and reboot finger crossed... but alas, the result was ever worse than without flashing : on it own (without external scrren), the 9920g wasn't able to display anything at all (not even the POST screen).... when it comes to a boot with external screen, I obtained more or less the same scenario as above : log on, loading, and 3 minuts before giant crash...

So, for the time being, I failed to install this card, and I must admit I begin to be fed up with this... Maybe I shall buy another 8600m gt, at the risk of encoutering the same heating issue... I don't know...

So, if you have any suggestions, I gladly accept then.

Most of all, I would like to thank one more time again .Netroller3D for his contributions, and for trying to solve this problem. If you want, i can provide you a copy of my 9600m gt Vbios, maybe you might have a suggestion to give.... feel free to contact me if you want extra information about my case! And, other people, feel free to give your view, too!

Sorry, then, I didn't bring good news (especially for our poor little student metzelmax.. héhé), but anyway, there are problems in the world worse than this! (but, I'd take any idea or help about it, nevertheless!)

Anyway, Wish you all luck, guys, for your own upgrades!

PS : By the way, I have noticed, that the 9600m gt card becomes hot as hell, during the three minut under ubuntu, surely causing this freeze... too high voltages settings?

@Hycks: Please post your old VBIOS. I'll try to fix the colors issue.

@filipinho: Try a different VBIOS. The current one may be lacking support for external outputs (or possibly only supports DisplayPort).

EDIT: Link to 5620G BIOS fixed in post #1.

@.Netroller3D : Really? you would? You're really a great guy!

    Here's the bios I saved from my 9600m gt : request download ticket | OLDBIOS.ROM - ifile.it

Thank you so much for all you could do, and feel free to ask me informations about it!

If it works, it would be so great!

@.Netroller3D : Oh my... that fast! Many thanks, I'll try it this evening, and give you my feedback!

By the way, were there a lot of differences with this modded bios compared to the one you have posted on the first page?

Thank you again, and cross the fingers for me!

    Hi all!

.NetRoller, Got b ack from testing new Vbios : amazing! Colors now display fine on my screen!!

... But I still have an issue, however : So the POST screen displays nicely, and after that, I gladly arrive to the ubuntu load screen ("ubuntu" written with 5 great spots, lighting one after each other). Colors were good, but the screen resolution seems to be fixed to 640x480... after that, screen turns completely black. I can however blindly log in, and the system responds ok!

I then switched to an external screen, and the ubuntu office displayed well, but stuck at a resolution of 640x480... I tried to change the nvidia drivers for the nouveau drivers. It hasn't changed my resolution problem, but I got rid of my overheating and freezing issue doing this (cool!).

I then made some other tests, and noticed a curious thing : when I plugged an external from the very start (before ubuntu loading), the system seems to detect the correct resolution (of 1280x1024, for this particular screen), and displays things nicely, contrary to the case when I first boot of the internal screen..

I then examined the xorg.0.log (that gathers information about hardware recognition, among other things) for both cases, and noticed these sets of lines, that, in my opinion give a clue of what's wrong :

For the case "9600m gt, with external screen from the start", we have :

    [ 15.376] (==) NVIDIA(0): Depth 24, (==) framebuffer bpp 32

See? It seems one information is missing, from the display screen to be correctly detected!

This time, DFP-0 is correctly detected, enabling the system to load perfectly...

It seems that the drivers are not faulty, and that the bios you have prepared for me still lacks a tiny information for working....

So, Mr .NetRoller3D.... could you, please, please, give me one last hand, for solving this? I'm that close to the solution... It would be so, so great of you, If you can have a look about my problem.

I keep the entire xorg.0.log files for the three cases at disposal, if you need then... Feel free to ask if you need extra info...

and MANY, MANY THANKS, ONE MORE TIME!!

Hello, you ask first before I would like to give to you my congratulations for all the effort and help offered.
the latter say I have an acer aspire 5920G and I have updated the bios of the main page
5920g_mxm_v3.wph successfully without any problem, everything perfect, so I give you my congratulations again. is the last one up as you?

The third thing I wanted to say that I have a 8600GS now revived, and I put a 9600M GT, and I messed up the head, wanted to know if anyone serves me, or I have to buy Acer vbios specifically?

I need to buy 9600M GT, but not stop worrying, if I can buy the 512MB GDDR3 version G96-630-c1 or only possible GDDR2 version?
sorry for my bad English (google traslate lol!)

@Hycks: Seems like the ACPI _DDC() method is failing or never getting called. What output do you get with nouveau + 9600M GT?

Also, is this with the V2 or V3Beta SBIOS?

@christian0087: Any VBIOS will work; no need for Acer-specific one. (However, avoid Compal cards.)

G96-630-C1 GDDR3 is the best 9600M GT version available.

EDIT: I finally have documentation available for v3 MXM structures! Expect an updated mxmparse (with v3 support), and possibly GT 330M support for the 9920G in the future.

    finally!!!!!!!!!!
a working 9600m gt vbios for the 9920g!!!!!

the one you posted on the first page does not work, the last one you posted for hycks works like a charm!

picture is perfect, now im downloading the right drivers, gonna do some tests and post a reply.

@netrolller i told you the last one didn't work and you persisted i didn't flash it correctly :D
anyway thanks for all your effort it works,it finally works!!!!!!!!!!
it's not that i didn't have a working card,i have about 10 mxm2 cards at the moment but it was a shame not to refresh the hardware a bit :)
    currently runing the 9920 with t9300 2.5ghz 6mb cash/4gig ram/64gb ssd disk primary/500gb 7200rpm baraccuda secondary :D
if you figure the support for the 330m it would be a total overdrive :)

    Improved VBIOS for 9920G + 9600M GT DDR3: request download ticket | NEWBIOS.ROM - ifile.it

Should fix internal display going dark on driver load. (Apparently VBIOS straps take precedence over the MXM structure when determining the right EDID location - found by reading Nouveau's sources.)
