Do they even work without the power tab in an HE socket? Also considering that the 9600m and 130m will be somewhat different im not surprised.
You should of flashed the chip with a 130m bios before removing it.

It was completely glued, half of that tape went off, other half is all over the card... Anyway, I managed to place the new card and (after updating bios) it worksJust one quick question. Before putting heat sink back on its place, I had to reapply thermal paste to both, CPU and graphic. The temps now (at idle) are ~60°C for graphics and ~55°C for CPU (Athlon x2 TL-60). Is this too high? I'm not an expert and it's very possible I was too clumsy with thermal paste
so tell me, if I should try to reapply it once more.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Thermal paste is easy to apply, just leave a small blob in the centre of the chip, it will spread when you apply the heatsink.
As for the temperatures, how are they compared to before you changed it? -
I've no idea what the temps were before when the old card was working properly. I applied new thermal paste a few weeks ago (during one of attempts to revive it), however yesterday the malfunctioning card showed ~51°C. I remember though that temps went up (over 80C) under stress (games, hd video). That's why I opened a game now (not a very demanding one, Sims 2) and left it running. About 30min later I checked if it's still running, but the screen was blank (white-ish). I tried to restart it. At first attempt it showed the Acer screen, then it went black. At second attempt it just stayed black, but it sounded like it's booting. About half an hour later I tried to start it again, it turned on without a problem. :/ What's going on, is the replaced graphic card also malfunctioning?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Its overheating. You need to check the heatsink is making proper contact. If you dont know how to do this please take pictures of the core as soon as you remove the heatsink and post them here. Make sure they are clear.

Hi guys, I've got a Travelmate 5520G - HD 2400 XT (256 ddr2), 4G RAM, Turion TL-66 (2.3G). I really want to upgrade this GPU. I know one option is to get the HD 2600, but I was wandering if the HD 3650 (256 ddr3, or 512 ddr2) would work. What is your opinion? Also if there is another card you would suggest.... Thanks in advance.
-
@MondoJuan: Awesome! Could you provide some other screenshots (CPU-Z, GPU-Z, etc.), or details on the upgrade? You'll be added to the main page soon.
@Jreinhardto: Welcome to the forums! The Radeon HD 3650 is one of the more compatible cards out there. No one else has tried it, but that doesn't mean it won't work; it just means you'd be blazing a trail.
Between the two Radeon HD 3650 models, opt for the 256MB GDDR3. Faster memory >>> more memory. -

I have a question about the vram on that card, it shows "t2" so that should be 1200mhz right?
But notebookcheck says the vram runs at 1600mhz.
What's going on here? -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
You can put over rated ram on the card.
So stock clocks will be 800mhz but depending on the mem controller it could go to 1200mhz or beyond (then dependant on both the ram and mem controller).
You will notice on a lot of Nvidia cards that the mem speed is much lower than its rated because its the memory controller on the graphics card holding it back.
ATI tend to use more simple (but narrower) mem controllers that clock higher, they have stronger analogue components per bit.
-------------------
Looking at the desktop 6670 benchmarks, when combined with T0C ram it was reaching 1.15ghz, if the MXM module designers have not done something stupid I am hoping for some epic memory clocks. It should ship tomorrow morning by DHL express.
EDIT: Just to make sure you know that 1600mhz is the DDR speed right? They dont even make 1600mhz GDDR5. 800mhz (1600 DDR) is the default speed.
EDIT2: Ah the T2C modules also support 800mhz 1.35v mode, will have to wait and see then. -
@ Meier (with ref. to your post on the 24th March)
I have had the same situation as you with a 5920 and a 9500M GS - black screen, lights, fans, and no boot. For a year I have been trying to understand the fault, and eventually decided the card must be dead. However, recently I discovered the card is OK.
Just out of curiosity I tried the suspect card in a 9920 and it displayed on an external monitor. That was proof that my suspect 9500M GS works. (In this test it was expected that a known working 9500M GS in 9920 would only display on an external monitor. That is another story though). Having been told the 9500M GS came from an Acer 6920, I looked at the card info in GPU-Z and noted the vBIOS version. It was ver 60.84.69.00.36. I looked up the vBIOS at TechPowerUp, and made notes on other vBIOS versions for 9500M GS. Another was 'stated' specifically to be for an Acer Aspire 8920 which was ver. 60.84.69.00.33
There is one other clear version, so is that is the vBIOS version that needs to be used in the 5920. (Ver. 60.84.62.00.40). There is however a G84-626-A2, and maybe that is the compatible card and vBIOS.
This conclusion has to be why people experience a boot fail with purchased 9500M GS, in the Acer 5920. Unfortunately also it is impossible to flash the 9500M GS vBIOS to another version in the 5920. The boot failure seems to prevent vBIOS flashing.
I needed help and proof, that the 9500M GS categorically should work in the 5920. I have had chats with folk in the nVidia forums. Some there have 9500M GS replaced by Acer for failed 8600M GT failures, (under warranty). Therefor it must be that a specific 9500M GS vBIOS version works in the 5920 and other vBIOS's don't.
If you mentioned that you wanted to buy the 9500M GS for a 5920 then you might well have a case for a return to the vendor. Good luck.
@ Mithrandir_Martin (ref. you post 15th April)
I think because of this info I posted here for Meier, it might be wise to avoid the 9500M GS, for the 5720. However I think there are other cards that work in the 5720, that don't in the 5920. You may be lucky with 9500M GS. Before a purchase it might be advised to ask the vBIOS version of the card you want to buy. Maybe ask for a return policy if it is not compatible.
For all users:
The wider ramifications are that vBIOS versions may be the reasons why some GPU cards work in some laptops and not in others. Instead of it being the laptop system BIOS which is often blamed as the culprit. Eg the 9600M GT.
Secondly; if you have an Acer 5920 with a working 9500M GS, maybe don't attempt to 'update' the vBIOS. -
I have a question about the mounting holes found on mxm II / III cards
on
MXM technical before 3.0
I read I-II cards have 41mm and III+ cards have 46mm cards, what does this mean? is this the distance between 2 holes?
Is it possible to mount an mxm II card on a mxm III heatsink? (or the other way around) -
moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
Yes, the distance between the holes is different.
It is not possible to use an MXM III heatsink with an MXM II card. -
Not the end of the world to drill new holes and retap some thread.
However how did ppl upgrade from 6600 => x1800 (II -> III) in the past? Or weren't all those cards following the rules like they should have.
edit: and a 8930g mxm III with a 9600m mxm II inside? (can't find a pic of the heatsink)
edit2: found the 8930g explanation, they have a custom bracket inside between the heatpimp and gfx card -
Meaker, i would love to spend 200 usd on something like 6770
-
what about the asus 9700m mxm type II cards?
*edit* and is this for real? http://cgi.ebay.com/ATI-HD-4650-M96...211?pt=PCC_Video_TV_Cards&hash=item3cb6e15bf3 and would it work in my 6920g? -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Did you even read the listing? Card has no bios on it.
Also avoid asus cards.
Should arrive Tuesday at this rate. Damn bank holiday slowing it down. -
where can i order one? i looked at aliexpress, but they are noneliable
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Wonder how long it would take someone else to find it.
I have ordered it from there, taking a punt.
However the guy has been really responsive to emails and I have let him know about the forums here.
http://www.aliexpress.com/product-f...D6770M-1G-DDR5-MXM3-VGA-card-wholesalers.html
Is the listing. I have not received the card yet, so order at your own risk atm.
So lets see shall we?
I'll be the first to test out the source so if plays out you guys can order knowing you are getting a good deal. -
I had already found it but as i mentioned I find the credibility of their service to be doubtful. But im glad you took a stab at it. I will wait and see how urs turn out.
also found this http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=9921069225 but its chinese
wait, are u Richard B. in the transaction history? did u get tracking? -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Yes I did get tracking. That is me.
Its currently in the UK, should get it soon.
Paid for EMS but he sent it by DHL express for nothing extra. -
Im getting really excited for this. cant wait. wheres your 5850 btw?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Getting repaired lol. One of the inductors over heated.
It's here!
The card looks exactly like the picture.
Will test.
BTW: http://www.intersil.com/data/fn/fn6891.pdf Is the power regulator for the core.
http://www.intersil.com/data/fn/fn9095.pdf for the mem.
As far as I can tell there are 5 phases, 3 for GPU, 2 for mem. -

Hello i have the Acer Aspire 5739g with the nvidia GT 240M and it looks exacly the same with the ATI 6770M....is it gona work if i order the 6770m?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
EDIT: WARNING DO NOT EXTRACT THE BIOS VIA THE CURRENT VERSION OF GPU-Z, IT IS ONLY EXTRACTING HALF OF IT, IF YOU FLASH IT, IT WILL BRICK YOUR CARD. Luckily RBE's built in warning from a while back kicked in.
Nothing is certain in the world of MXM, however by the looks of it the likelihood is very high it will work.
Card is working and performing well, benchmarks soon.
Can I ask that all of you who order the card from here say that you are from NBR? If we can build up a good reputation with this guy we might get a discount over time. -

it is posible to tell us where did u get the card from?im all ears -

so, please tell me again why this card won't work in my acer aspire 6920? I saw that the 512mb version worked, and I would love to upgrade to 1gb if I could. Anyway, if that is not possible will this one work?
I have a nvidia 9500m gs at the moment and I really need a boost when I take my games on the road. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
As the listing points out, only compatable with toshiba laptops.
There is no bios on the MXM card itself which your acer expects there to be.
The 4570 would be slower.
I would go with a 9600M GT DDR3. -
CROSSFIRE_GTI Notebook Consultant
I already contact with this person GANG YAO and he told me that the card 6770M is gona work with my ACER ASPIRE 5739G 100%
so im ready to order one tommorow!!!!!!BTW nice results there!!!!

BTW it appears this is the first GDDR5 card with a 64KB bios. False alarm.
You can use GPU-Z to extract it.

wish I had mxm 3.0 socket ... hehe
any ideas whether the socket on the motherboard can be changed -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
No, they are a different shape so the pinout on the motherboard wont work, especially for an Asus machine.
