In the process of buying an Nvidia Quadro FX770 512MB DDR3 which has an identical chipset to the 9600M GT.

Well looking forward to putting that into my Acer 7720G. :D

I hope that I made the right choice, initially I was gonna go for the 9600M GT 1GB DDR2 but thought I go for the fastest possible DDR3.

    I think I hit a jackpot here, at £52!!!! :D :D

    HI everybody!
I have 1 problem. I just bought asus 240m mxm 2 and have problem putting it into acer 5920g. I have installed modded bios , but notebook doesn't seem nor to see video card nor to boot. Whenever i put my old card or boot without any , notebook seem to boot up easly. If i put 240m one i receive no power : with battery , battery + ac , just ac nohow. Any ideas?

Its stated that this is rev 2.0 card. Maybe its because of this? I've seen some rev 1.0 card, maybe them should work properly?Or i should done some modding to it?
    Thanks

Hi, dont try to test this card. If you are not receiving power , there is some shortage caused of card . You are lucky - not harm your motherboard. If you can test it on another laptop- Asus is perfetct for test. Or just return the card, if you really but it from that place, be aware - a lot of items are faulty , selling as "new". I purchased one 260 GTX from there- was faulty, and I have luck cuz my cousin living in China and they send me another one- working card.

Hello all. Brand new member. Sorry for not going thru this entire thread, but it is just to long.

I have an Aspire 7720. The 8400M GS was killed by some guys at a laptop shop repairing the power button. I need a new graphics card. I found a great video on how to swap it out and feel confident I could do it. But I can't find a compatible GPU anywhere on the web. Can a usable GPU still be found for this old laptop? Or am I just out of luck?

Hello All, I posted earlier about upgrading my 8920g from 9500m GS 512MB DDR2 to a 9600m GS 512MB from and Acer6930. I had a lot of problem getting it to work, but it was probably operator error. Finally it worked and I thought I would let people know how I got it to work. When I swapped the card and rebooted I only had a black screen. I tried updating bios with I think every bios out there. I eventually had the Modded 1.16 version, but still black screen. I installed the old 9500m card and set to vga. I then shut down and replaced with new card, then connected with HDMI which was the turning point as I had tried other external monitor connections. Then windows started onto the external screen via HDMI and the drivers for 9600m GS were installed automatically.

    Hi there, I'd suggest FX770, 9600m GT 512MB GDDR3 or if you can't find the others... 9600m GT 1GB GDDR2

The Extensa 5630G has poor cooling. Are you happy with your temps? Because either one would run hotter than HD3650. Also HD4650 requires some modification in order to work.

Will one from a different model notebook still work? I have found several on ebay, such as this:

HP EliteBook 8530W 8530P nVidia QUADRO FX 770M 512MB Video Card Board 502338-001

I'd rather spend less if possible. These things run like $150 new.

Err, why don't you download GPU-Z and tell us what it says. Or post a screenshot?

Uhm should do, I bought mine off eBay for £50 and GPU-Z says the vendor is HP.

I would make sure though just in case.

Hi. I successfully installed a Nvidia 9650m gt on my Acer Aspire 7520g and used it without any problem for about 2 years. Now i have 2 problems. First is that it works only with external monitor. Second is that the video card works only with windows drivers. If i install nvidia drivers it has red, green and blue dots all over the screen. I tried many drivers, from 17x.xx to 19x.xx but i have always the same problem. I installed windows xp, 7 (32 and 64 bit) and 8 (64bit) but i had no luck. I don't know why my card worked good till now. Can you help me?

Hello, I'm new to the site, I have an Aspire 5920G, for about a week has burned a HD3470 that I had replaced the 8600M, now I want to buy a 9600M GT 1024MB, so the PC will have problems reading it or I just install the mod of the bios?

Sorry for my English Translated
    Greetings.

    According to this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/acer/575866-acer-mxm-bios-mods-discussion-x920g-vs-9600m-gt.html
So it appears if you flash your bios, you are set to go.

I was informed that the GT 240M (the MXM-II type) for Acer 5920G is a plug-and play card which should work in an Acer 5930G as well by plugging it in without bios flashing or mods of any kind.
    Can anyone confirm this?

Bought and installed this card, but I get nothing but a black screen. No video indication whatsoever. Does that mean the card is bad, incompatible, or is there something I can do to get this thing running?

The card needs to be an ASUS 240M GT, as the Toshiba 240M Gt has no VBIOS chip onboard (One can integrate the VBIOS in the SBIOS, see here.

it's been done in these threads to various Acer laptops

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/ace...t-post9361970.html?highlight=240m#post9361970

But in this thread, discussion points out it would not work
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/gam...240m-gddr3-asus-m60j-acer-aspire-6930g-4.html

It seems like the guy with the 6930G had his LCD crap out when he replaced his GPU,
The problem appears to be driver related (maybe?) requiring perhaps the Laptop2go custom modded INF's
    Maybe try this method
    Have-Disk method for Windows 7 / Vista - Frequently Asked Questions - LaptopVideo2Go Forums

The problem with MXM upgrades is there is still alot we don't know than what we know on what cards successfully work, through my searches in this forum sometimes I find conflicting results. Ultimately the best way to know what works is to experiment.

Pretty sure the GT240M from Acer 7538G would go into 7720G as well, there is one listed on Amazon.co.uk.

Might give it a go. :D

Hmm... sounds like it might need reflowing.

    Have you tried baking it?

As I can see on the video you`ve linked, your video card "produces artifacts". Artifacts - strips, that you can see. Sometimes this problem can be solved be heating your card processor with industrial heat gun, or heated in usual oven (of course you have to know, what and how you are doing). After these methods card`s life will be prolonged to 1 month - 1 year. But, it will die completely anyway, as the structure of processors pins and processor itself is already damaged.

This issue can be provoked by card`s processor overheating (overheating caused with bad thermal-paste, unclean cooling system, heavy load on video processor). Better for will be to change this card, because it can die at any time.

    Heating Gun Method

    Heating in Oven

Be careful: both of these methods can as help to restore you card, as can kill it. So, as I said before, you`d better change it with new one.

    Hi,
Recently I replaced my Acer Aspire 5920G graphic card because of a failure. The old card was showing artifacts, I tried to repair it with a heatgun, It succeeded but later I failed a VBIOS flashing. I have another HD3470 from a chinese eBay user. I installed the card putting a lot of thermal paste on GPU. I noticed that sometimes the laptop fan is doing a lot of noise, but, according to AIDA64, the CPU and GPU temperatures aren't too high: 40-45ºC on CPU, max 55ºc. and GPU diode 60ºC (idling). I tried to stress the GPU using Furmark and it increased around 80ºC BUT the latop fan didn't increased noise :S Where can be the noise problem?

Try and just plug it in first, then see if you get a black screen or not.

Putting a "lot" of thermal paste on the GPU isnt going improve anything. It will likely make things worse as heat wont be able to transfer properly. You need a fairly small amount, basically so it just covers the GPU die.

Also, why are you worried about the fan noise not being there? Surely thats a good thing. 80C seems fairly normal anyways.

Getting 60-65ºC on GPU at Windows, that is normal? I tried putting less thermal paste, the result was the same or even worst.

If the result with less paste is worse it's possible that the paste is what's making contact between the radiator and the card.
Since it heats up to 80*C it's not bad but keep an eye on it for a few weeks.

If it is the paste that's making contact between the GPU and the radiator the contact may and will get worse when the paste gets dry- which may produce higher temps.

Also please keep to one thread. I just answered your question in the other thread just to find slightly more info in this one. It's confusing.

    Any idea?
(the bios of my laptop is modded (5920G_MXM_V3) and the cart is from ebay).

    Hey there,
I just tested a 8600m GS on Aspire 6930g. Working flawlessly without bios mods.
Also I tested a 9300m GS on Aspire 5920g. No image.
