I was wondering if it is possible to put the 6930g motherboard into the 6930 case. This would allow me to only spend appx 170 dollars to upgrade my existing laptop as opposed to paying 500 for a new one with win8 on it.

I already have an OS and all that. I want to see if anyone knows if the components fit in the same case. The pictures look like they would, but sometimes there is that one part in the way that prevents it.

I really just want to be able to play SWToR on my laptop. Right now the video is so bad it doesn't even load the whole area. The goal is to junk the 6930 with the integrated gpu and replace it with the better board form the 6930g and get an upgraded card.

It is possible but you will need a different radiator though - one that will also cover the MXM module.
    Otherwise it's the same chassis.

    Hello,

    I have an Acer Aspire 7720ZG with a 1.45 bios and a T7700 2.4 GHz processor.
I have change my Geforce 8400 M GS yesterday because it was out of order.
I try a Nvidia MXM II Graphics Card GeForce 9600M GT DDR3 512MB that i ve bought one year ago but not tested.
It seems to work. I can use my computer with the maximum resolution (1440x900) but the graphic card is not recognize by windows vista. I have only the standard VGA recognize.
In the Bios, the Nvidia card is recognize with it's bios (62.94.1F.00.08) and it's memory (512 MB).
I try on the Nvidia site to upload the correct drivers. What is funny is that the site automaticaly recognize my card but when i try to install it, the software say "no nvidia card in the PC".
    Can you help me ?
Is it possible that my card is out of order and the PC work with an on board chipset ?
Is that a problème with my aspire 7720ZG witch is not compatible with this card ?
Or a problem with Vista ?

Thank's a lot to help me.

PS : Sorry for my poor english... i m french !

    Hello all,

My laptop is Acer Aspire 6530G and I have upgraded my video card ATI 3650 / 512 MB with ATI 4650 / 1 GB, and my screen is black. When I turn on my laptop, it starts, I can hear the fan, but I cant see nothing on the screen. Anyone has this problem? Can anyone help me please?

I have the last bios update from official acer web page. If I flash my bios with a modded version, there is any chance to work?

    Thank you in advance

Does it has blue PCB? If yes, then it's Toshiba HD4650 and has no vBIOS chip. Check this topic.

Thank you for answer, and yes my video card PCB is blue. If it has no vBIOS chip, is there any posibility to make it work on my laptop? With a modded BIOS update?

If the video card has red PCB there was a chance to work? I dont understand, why in this forum I have read it's compatible with my acer 6530G?

It's so strange because I've read in the user manual of my laptop, and there is the same model of laptop manufactured with this type of video card...

    Please help me :(

Yes it will work, you have to read the link I gave you.

It was shipped but with Acer HD4650 and it's DDR2, you got a Toshiba one.

OK, let me understand better... are u saying to integrate video BIOS file into the motheboard's system BIOS? And after that to flash the new BIOS and the video card will work?

Or I didn't understand well, and u said only if the PCB color was red, and not from TOSHIBA laptop, it worked...

If I change the video card and buy another one, ATI 4570 for example, must be from an acer laptop and must be red PCB?

Please help me because, I dont know what to do... :(

Yes, this is what I'm saying. No need to buy another one. You could upload a picture of it just to be sure. I'll try to find the vBIOS in the mean-time.

    Edit: Here it is.

I'll try to integrate video BIOS file into the motheboard's system BIOS, but I cant find the .ROM file for do this operation. I have only .WPH file from the acer website.

If I succeed to flash my bios with this modified version, will be stable?

I want to ask you on more thing, can u tell me how to find .ROM file for my bios?

Are you sure you know what you're doing?

    Thats a quite extreme mod.

It's very likely your notebook might end up as a very expensive food tray.

What are the risks? Can I damage the motherboard if I do this? Or my video card?

geko95gek you have a bad experience with flashing the bios?

Can anyone tell me what might happen?

You can just edit the WPH file directly with Phoenix BIOS Editor - version 2.2.1.3 supports WPH files, no need to use ROM anymore.

    Thank you .NetRoller 3D :)

I succeed to integrate vBIOS in sBIOS, with Phoenix BIOS Editor, I have changed the OPROM.ROM file with HD4650DDR3.ROM, I modified the name with the original ROM file, and create the new BIOS.

When I open the WPH files in HEX Editor, both files old WPH and the new WPH created was the same, I've checked the properties and both have 1.095.906 bytes.

I have flashed the new BIOS from the USB stick with WinPhlash, and in the middle of flashing the laptop restarts. I've repeated the operation 3 times with the same results... I've reseted the CMOS of the laptop, unplug the BIOS battery but still nothing :(

I tried to flash the BIOS from windows, and I have this error:

    bios.jpg

I must edit the WPH file in the HEX editor? I dont know what to do... Please help me :(

Thank you so much triturbo  you are the best !!! And also thanks to .NetRoller 3D, valuxin for the great tutorial for integrate vBIOS in sBIOS

I check the temperature of the video card and it' 58-60 degrees Celsius, it's ok? Anyway I'll buy a support with cooler for a good cooling.

Glad that I helped :) What paste have you used? If you use thermal pad, you MUST do copper mod (using copper shim) and high quality paste like MX-4.

I've used silver paste for CPU, but I'll search for a high quality paste because that matters a lot.

What is copper mod (using copper shim)? I saw your cooling system from your laptop and looks very good :D

Copper mod - you have to replace the thermal pad for like 15x15x0,5mm copper shim with paste on both sides. It has MUCH better conductivity than thermal pad. This is only if you have thermal pad on your GPU. If you have paste, just replace it with higher quality one, like MX-4. Doing copper mod while you having paste would probably crack the core!

Thanks for the cooling, I'm almost done with Stage 3 and I'll do a write-up some day :)

M4000 FirePro 1Gb GDDR5 MXM III - A (BLUE PCB) pulled from Dell Precision works great in 5739G with drivers from 7770M! :) Although 6770M (RED PCB) pulled from HP works great. M5950 (prof. version of 6770M) also is compatible with 5739G.

Interesting, are there any MXM III A cards, that fully supports Crossfire/SLI?

Hello everyone, I have one big question :D

Can I upgrade my CPU from Turion X2 Ultra 2,2 ghz socket s1g2 to Turion II M640 2,6 ghz socket s1g3?

The standard cpu was Turion 64 X2 2 ghz socket s1g2, and I changed with Turion X2 Ultra, but it's not a big difference between them :( only the temperature for the second one, which is very high

    Hello Guys,

I have Asus Pro58vn / M50vn with geforce 9650m gt 1GB ddr2 with X55Sv motherboard inside, my old was damaged so i have changed it for different model mobo. Extracted vBIOS of 9650m gt (064C) from M50vn and inserted( also tried to replace/delete 8600m GT and 9500m gs from X55Sv bios) it to X55Sv BIOS, i had no picture on screen so i have flashed it with black screen with help of another asus computer.

After flash the screen started working and i was so happy, but right after I have installed Nvidia drivers, screen stays black after windows starts to the log on screen.
I have tried HDMI and VGA connection on external screens and everything is working fine, just internal screen isnt working after windows loads. I found that you are talking about SMBIOS on that acer forums and changing the EDID values but i have only found SBIOS which is probably that, but dont want to brick the computer, so it is only in use for Web browsing etc... with windows driver loaded.

I have tried to look at the MXM structure from borec.cz but i am quite idle from that :), many different drivers from laptopvideo2go, different operating systems (xp, vista, 7, 8.1) and also different 9650m GT vBIOSes from different asus computers but always stays at same point, after installing nvidia driver ,the internal screen turn off at LogOn screen and always work on HDMI / VGA. So I am really desperate.

Here is the original BIOS which i need to work: http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/X55/X55SV207AS.zip

Here is BIOS from my old mobo with 9650m GT inside: http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/M50V/M50VAS212.zip

Here is the X55sv Bios with already inserted 9650m GT vBIOS and i am currently running the computer on it:

    https://mega.co.nz/#!fY5UQCaJ!8sD6yRVJz7FQn7mOv_qLO8LrXJZityl7u-l8844WTgU

If anyone know some advice, please share it with me.

I have found somewhere that one guy replaced BIOS chips from m50Vn to X55SV with hot air machine, exactly mine situation and it worked, but I don’t have that equipment for doing that, so If anyone knows how to solve it by modify bios please let me know.

    Best Regards,

    Reed

    Hi all,
I have a Acer Aspire 7520G, which is defective 8400M graphics card.
When I replace the faulty graphics card with another compatible in this slot, Ati HD2400XT 256MB card in MXM2 slot (M74-M) - just get a white screen and I can only ntb off.
The GPU, memory and cooler I put thermal grease and thermal pad.

Please advice what's wrong or defective new graphics card?

Thank you very much everyone for your help.

Answer himself - found defective chipset mcp67mv-a2.

I recently installed an HP romless Nvidia GT 425m into my Acer Aspire 5935g.

    View attachment gt425m5935g.bmp

I'm happy to say it works flawlessly! No BIOS mods were required either. All I did was update it to v2.06. The BIOS is InsydeH20. I used a driver program (Slimdrivers) to get it to find the drivers so it would detect the card.

I bought it off a seller on ebay who claimed it was a GT 240m when it clearly isn't. $(KGrHqRHJBQFDs6DV5SmBR!yWW!g+g~~60_57.JPG (Mine is exactly the same as this one) After some further research I noticed it couldn't be one due to the codename labelled on the chip. It is a blue PCB HP card from one of their Omni Touchsmart All in Ones which happen to use MXM. Part number is HP 639063-001. There are quite alot of the on ebay right now. Just search for the part number. These cards are all GT 425m's not GT 240m's as these people claim. The Driver updates I installed also were for the GT 425m's and not GT 240m's which further proves it. GPU-Z also detects it as one. Their chip number is "N11P-GS-A1" which does indicate that it is a GT 425m due to the "N11P-GS" on it.

Great story, Screenio! You have the same situation, that Meaker had - he wanted to buy 6770M. Seller claimed it as 6770M, but the card had 7770M chip. He bought it, installed it, checked with GPI-Z and searched for compatible drivers. GPU-Z recognized it as 7770M, as drivers fitted for 7770M! :D

Except they were engineering samples lol.

If people at getting 425Ms instead then the only difference is a 10mhz core clock advantage (they are the same silicon) then meh it makes no difference.

Hello!!! I'm new here. First of all sorry for my english. The question is that i have a dead and dusty aspire 5920g with burned 8600m gs 256MB and in the last mounths a was thinking in buy a new one graphic card like a 9600m gt (DDR2, DDR3, 512MB or 1GB) or 9650m gt (DDR2, DDR3, 512MB or 1GB). The first question that i want to hurl you is if these cards are compatible with my laptop acer aspire 5920g and, as i can saw on the forum that yes, i want to know yours experiences and what is better and less hot. The second question is that as I have read on the forum these cards require to flash the BIOS before work with them and how can i do that if when i turn on the laptop the display is black? Or these video cards have and plug and play system and when i put them without flashed BIOS the display works and after is when i can flash the BIOS? Sorry for my computer skill too if i said a outrage. appreciate the help!!!

    Hello,

I have an Aspire 5720g with a broken 8400m GS GPU. I'm looking for a cheap fix, because the rest of the laptop is still working great and it's used for mail and browsing only anyways.

While searching on ebay I found this HD2600 from an HP 8510p laptop, PN 454247-001; REV 1.22.

    $_57.JPG $_57.JPG

Does anyone know if this card is gonna work with my system? Is it correct that these cards can be 'locked' and does that matter?
If it should work, what will I have to do to make it work? For example bios changes? Is this a card with it's own VBIOS or should I alter the SBIOS to make it work?

Sorry for the many questions, I've read most of the topics on here about Acer and MXM cards. But couldn't find definitive answers about this specific card.

    Thanks.

I have the acer aspire 5920G
Has anyone here tried using it with the ATI Radeon Mobility x1600 ?
I bought a at radeon 3650 that was suposed to work with it but no effect.

@ xn14, 3650 from HP should run fine in Acer 5920. I think they have the same BIOS on the card that Acer use.

@ walillas, The NetRoller post has the 5920 system BIOS in a link on this thread.
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/acer/575866-acer-mxm-bios-mods-discussion-x920g-vs-9600m-gt-122.html
The thread has stories of folk doing the same thing. I did it myself and have a 9600M GS. (That's the card below 9600M GT that you want.) You need to flash your system BIOS. You will have to do a blind flash though because you have no video card that works without modded BIOS. Basically you will have to prepare a disk like on an external floppy drive, or the CD-ROM, to flash with. Again there is a record of how to do that somewhere in the thread I linked. (I'd advise trying to oven fix your 8600 to do the flash with. Then you'll be able to see what you are doing.) If you put a 9600M GT in your 5920 before flashing to modded BIOS the laptop will not POST.

The 9650M GT is an easier option then since the 5920 POSTs and boots fine with it all unmodded. Getting the driver for that card to install needs a bit of attention. I think folks use the LaptopVideo2Go for it. The 9600M GT with 512MB GDDR3 runs very hot in the 5920. NetRoller says the GDDR3 C1 revision of it is a newer revision, which theoretically in this case makes it cooler. Otherwise I'd think stay with the 9600M GT DDR2 version (C1 revision) even though it's not quite as fast. It has cooler RAM and operates at a good temperature.

But it does not work. I had the bios 3008, then 3813 and also the bios mod, but always black screen with the sounds of windows. any ideas? thanks

    Hi Taylor.

How did you get this solved?
I'm getting the same issue changing from a HD4650 (with problems) to a new (used) HD4650 one. Just updated both Bios and vBios but i only get black screen, so i must use the problematic GPU.

    Thanks!
    Pedro

    Dear everyone,
    First of All Hello,

I'm not sure to post on the right section, if not please tell me and I'll recreate my post in the right one.

I have an Acer Aspire 7720, I tried sucessfully to upgrate CPU (T9500) RAM (4G) HDD (SSD) Bios (1.45 MXM Black Edition) but now I'm in front of a great wall ;-)
    Not able to use a HD4650 MXM2 IG DDR2 (VG.M9606.006).
I tried a few Bios versions but Always a black screen.(No display).

The Laptop is well starting because I can hear the desktop welcome sound.

I tried unsucessfully to use the VGA port with external display.
I haven't found a right adapter for the DVI port.

Do you think my problem is coming from the GPU Bios?
In any cases thank you very much for you reading.

    Have a nice week,
    Eole

Welcome to forum, I don't think it is bad place to start, whether it is the right section hard to tell :)

I am interested in your problem, as I have two Acer 7720G, one Aspire and one Travelmate. The Aspire had a HD4650 installed, replacing the original card. The HD4650 eventually 'died' in intermittent fashion. I have been working on this repair for some time. During this time been considering upgrading from 2 GB to 4 GB and installing SSD when video card get sorted out.

    1.. Is your Acer Aspire 7720 a G model?
2.. As part of the upgrade, is the HD4650 also an upgrade?
3.. Where did you purchase the card from, assuming it is not the original card

I am asking this as the vBIOS (Video BIOS) may be the problem. My problem has same symptoms as your pc when I have the replacement NVIDIA card installed

Does your knowledge extend to doing blind flashing or can you test the card in another system and while doing so read the vBIOS?

To replace the HD4650 I have bought another 9300M GS I think it was which shows the same problem as yours, it was claimed to be Acer 7720 compatible but we will see one day. My problem here may be vBIOS as I have not succeeded completely convincing myself that the vBIOS is for the correct model. Some work I have done seems to indicate it may be ok.

This then leaves my sBIOS (System BIOS) which is still original. I have obtained the Black Edition but not yet sure if I have flashed it, as I am working blind takes time. I may be lucky.

I am getting tired of the difficult mounting arrangement with the heatpipes, making it rather difficult to do board quick changes. Presently I am designing a temporary heatsink and will use an external fan.

    @handy09
    Thank you for your answer,

And thank you to everyone that read my post.

    1.. Is your Acer Aspire 7720 a G model?
I'm having a 7720 not a G model but flashed it using the G bios following the advice of an other 7720 owner.
    It worked sucessfully.

2.. As part of the upgrade, is the HD4650 also an upgrade?
3.. Where did you purchase the card from, assuming it is not the original card
Yes it is an upgrade, I bought it from the following supplier:
Wholesale Product Snapshot Product name is Original VG.M9606.006 ATI 216-0729042 HD4650 HD 4650 MXM II VGA CARD for Acer 5920g 4520g 8930g 8920g has test 100%

I'm pretty sure the problem comes from the Vbios but how could I update it if I'm not see any display.
Is there a way to automatically flash the card at startup?

I already did phone flash or motherboard flashes (when needed).
    But never did blind flash.

My laptop sucessfully starts ans goes to the desktop as I can hear the desktop sound.

    Have a nice Friday,
    Kind Regards,
    Eole

I note: You have an Acer Aspire 7720, updraded with new processor and also replaced the MXM2 card with an ATI HD4650

    1. Yes I understand that you can do blind flashing. With great care you automate the process by preparing a "boot device" where you have form of "script" which will run during the boot process.

2.. I have not done it myself yet on the ATI card (building my heatsinkg first). I am very reluctant to give your flashing instruction before I have tested it myself but I am prepared to discuss testing how to read the the content of your vBIOS.

3.. Have you ever used any form of Linux distribution?

4.. Do you know what device your system boot from at present? From your description it sounds like it is booting from the hard disk?

5.. It would be an advantage if it boots from the optical drive?

6.. Do you have the "old grahpcis card" you could install and then configure the pc so that it boot on from a USB stick (may be easier to use than the optical drive). Both my systems can do this, my Travelmate 7720G I have full control over and have configured to boot off one of the USB ports. The Acer ASpire I have figured out what USB port it will boot from when certain things are disconnected.

Hi u6b36ef. A few days ago, I replace the faulty 9500M GS from my 8920g. I installed a 9600M GS 512 ΜB. I have the post problem! I upgraded the bios from v1.14 to v1.16. The lap boots , I can see the post by HDMI, but not on the laptop screen.
    Have an advice?
    Thank you.

    Hi everyone,

    @Handy09,

3.. Have you ever used any form of Linux distribution?
Yes I configured a few times a debian distrib. Or ran some Knoppix standalone CD's.
I'm currently having a Double Boot on my other PC with windows and Ubuntu.

4.. Do you know what device your system boot from at present? From your description it sounds like it is booting from the hard disk?
Yes it is starting from the Hard disk, I installed Windows 7 before trying to upgrade the GPU.

5.. It would be an advantage if it boots from the optical drive?
6.. Do you have the "old grahpcis card" you could install and then configure the pc so that it boot on from a USB stick (may be easier to use than the optical drive).

I can install my old graphic card and change the boot sequence to add the Optical drive as first and USB stick as second.

    Have a nice Week,
    Eole

    Hello,

If someone has an expected compatible video bios for HD 4650 DDR2 I'm ready to test it.

I have a USB Key, the tool HP USBStorage Format tool and my boot sequence starts with the usb key.

I searched various forums but could not find it anywhere :-(

    Wish everyone a nice week-end,
    Eole
