Hello, I've got aspire 5720G, however it might be GZ, two stickers gives different information, but my motherboard is ICL50, and my notebook originally came with 8400m GS. Recently I've gotten my hands on quaddro FX770 512 Mb DDR3 (It's not clear if it's in working condition), which as few sites tells is a little changed 9600m GT, and should be compatible with my laptop, if I have last version of BIOS - 1.45, and I have it, but modded, with SLIC 2.1 (I'll try flashing original acer bios today). Also, I have problems with display, so I can use laptop only with external VGA/DVI display, or VNC with virtual video card.
So, if I install FX770 into notebook, there is nothing on external displays (forums says VGA should not work), it boots to windows, I get picture from virtual video card, and there is no FX770 or any new devices in device manager. Also, videocard doesent get hot, and notebook works nearly two hours with its battery, so I assume videocard is not even powered.
    1) Should I try flashing FX770 with another VBIOS, and how do I do that?
    2) On pictures of motherboards, the ones with video card ports and without seem quite similar, so I wonder if there might be locked integrated intel video on every motherboard, even 5720G/GZ ones?

I'm dissapointed that the Acer Aspire 8930G can only go up to a 9650M GS.

So 9800M GTX or GT is really a no go? :(

Physically it would fit (most 8 series have the room inside, not very sure about this particular one though), but the cooling system is inadequate to cool it.

I've read the Quadro FX 3700M is the best one for my laptop, but i can't find it anywhere online.

I saw some, but they don't mention if it works in Acer 8930G.

And they wont since no one has tried it as far as I know. As I said, you have to rework the cooling BIG time in order to cool this thing. At the very least you'll have to change the fan. Also you'll need at least 150W adapter.

Thanks for info. Added to first post.

No you can't. These are integrated chips. You'd need an MXM slot with a dedicated card.

I want to change graphic card for my Acer TravelMate 6593G laptop.I was reading this thread and i have a few questions:
Can i change it to Radeon HD 4650 1GB DDR2?
If i can, is that the best graphic card that my laptop can handle or i can change it to better one?

@=FTH12= In theory it should work with HD4650 MXM II although as you can see from the first page of this thread it has not been attempted here yet.

Well HD4670 with DDR3 would be better but it's pretty much impossible to get one these days.
There is also something from NVidia that is at least comparable - GT240M I think.

downloads, please add following information to the first message of this thread - 5739G upgradable with 6770M/M5950 from Dell/HP (both ROMless and with ROM chip work. ROMless version has to be adopted to the notebook by means of integrating vBIOS into sBIOS). Upgradable with Dell FirePro M4000 (PR80C)/7770M. Upgradable with HP M4000, but doesn`t work correctly - vBIOS conflict. Possibly upgradable with M5100 from Dell.

=FTH12=, In addition you could try to find MXMII GT330M. It is better than MXMII GT240M, but it is nearly impossible to find this card for now.

Why? It's just a bit higher clocked GT 240m, and at least my 240ms were quite the clockers - 715/1030 on stock voltage (550/790 stock clocks), given you have the cooling though and I do. So not really worth the hassle and it's ROMless too.

Oh, even ROMless. Didn`t know about that. Thank`s, triturbo!

Mine GT240M (but it is MXMIII A) doesn`t overclock higher than 605/910. It begins to throttle if higher frequencies are applied. -_-

Probably too late for =FTH12= but I currently have a HD4670 with 512MB DDR3 in my Acer 6935G. Bought from majster msi on here two years ago, origianally came from a MSI GX 623, works great but I've honestly hardly used it as I gained access to a better laptop soon after installing it. I'd be willing to remove and pass on if someone was interested.

Has anybody any idea what one of these would be worth these days?

You can get GT 240m, HD 4650 and HD 4670. The first one runs cooler, but it's pretty penny, at least the last time I've checked.

You could still probably buy a card like this - I found one just like yours for 6290G some two years ago - these pop up one in a while but you'd have to look for it for a while. Don't count on finding a place that sells those i9n large numbers.

Just try to find exact Acer card, or , if you got black screen - try to blind flash it with Acer video bios before "bake" it .

You need modded drivers - go to laptopvideo2go, or search how to mod nVIDIA drivers.

Hi. I have a 5720G with 8400M GS MXM II card. I have found a 9300M GS DDR2 512 MXM II (G98-630-U2 VG.9MG06.003) for acer models but the seller tells me that it is not compatible with my laptop. He said to me that it is compatible with laptops with Intel PM45+ICH9M chipset. Is that right?

It shouldn't matter, we have no confirmation that it works but Acer released an Aspire 5720ZG (Z is added for models with weaker CPU) and it had 9300M GS as standard. I seriously doubt they had changed the chipset to do that.
We also have confirmation that upgrade to 9500M GS worked - it's the same family of cards so if it works so should 9300M GS.

That said the seller explicitly states that it only works with certain laptops and they take no responsibility if you buy the card for another laptop, so it's risky - they may not take a refund.

The price is 25euros. I thought the same as you did. I think that the seller doesn't know exactly. He only sells it. Which card is the safest upgrade? With safest I mean plug and play without BIOS tweaks or something like that?

I think, the point here is- why you need to change 8400 with 9300 GPU. It will not give you more video power - the are the same Class and specs. Try to look for much much better card.

Because the 8400 is dead. If I turn off the laptop it takes several tries to boot without problem. Now I have it without drivers as a standard vga and always on. I was willing in buying a new desktop PC but for at least 1 year I will not be able in buying it because every day other more important needs come along.

I have to do this procedure with any card other than 8400? Isn't just plug and play? I have not done it before. The model I watch on ebay is 9300M GS 512 DDR2.

The 9300M GS is an Acer card judging by the model number (Acer's model) which does not guarantee that it will work anyway.
Upgrading MXM card is rarely plug & play.

So except the new drivers, maybe it will need flashing, right? Is there a step by step guide? I want to see the "how to" to judge if I am willing to do it. If it is something difficult I will leave it aw it is until it catches fire. :p Which cards are known to work without BIOS flashing?

    Hello everyone,

I have an Acer Aspire 7720g. My graphics card (9300m GS) died, so I got a 9600m GT 512mb DDR3. As soon as I installed it, the display was working ok. I did a clean windows 7 x64 install with no problems. Display worked fine with the Standard VGA Graphics Adapter driver. Problems started when I tried to install the latest nvidia driver (341.92). My card is not recognized, so the installation cannot proceed.
I searched for some older drivers from laptop2go site, based on my device id, and it pointed me to version 285.86. Drivers installed fine, but I get a black screen after 1-2 minutes in windows desktop.
    My device ID:
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0649&SUBSYS_056710DE&REV_A1
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0649&SUBSYS_056710DE

    Any ideas?
    Thanks

@Konstantinos Charitos download the latest driver; replace listdevices.txt in main driver folder, and nvaci.inf in display.driver folder with files from this post (don't forget to remove .TXT from the latter filename!), and it will install. Use these files whenever you need to install Nvidia drivers on this machine.

I'll try with your files too ;-)

@HenryJansen This notebook does not have an MXM slot so you can't upgrade the card. eGPU is not my specialty but there is a dedicated section for that mod - you might want to take a look here.
