    there are 2 states:
    -having the 100%-load bug
    -having a nice working machine

if you are having the bug, you should send it back as Pallec did!
They send him a new one, and he is having no trouble anymore!

I had a few issues in the past, but I ve cleared them.

I have tried powersmart, but i didnt watched the battery life
    The performance drop is acceptable

    Passmark Score
    -smartpower off---> 441pts
-smartpower on---> 353pts (with a diashow in the sidebar and moving the mouse accidently during the test)

    btw: (german) 3810T review http://www.notebookjournal.de/tests/review-acer-aspire-3810t-354g32n-903
display: 262 candela (didnt know that the 3810T had the brightest panel in the Timeline-series)

Im now able to change the ram-settings (used Memset):
    DDR3-800 6-6-6-15
    to DDR3-800 6-4-4-14

    new Passmark score :458.1

im checking now if its completely stable

I bought my notebook in the UK where The TechGuys handle the warranty. This appears to be an 'official' bug and they recommend to upgrade the bios to V1.15. See link below.

    http://support.thetechguys.com/Layout.aspx?ID={628d131e-5d20-465e-b58f-1645ec8f30a4}&CatID={3244ad85-0be8-4d8a-858b-bf7a64482d35}

I have done this and also upgraded the Intel VGA drivers and it's been perfect since.

I repeat. It has been reported that VGA drivers update solve 100% CPU problem. Could be it also need bios update, but that's all.

    hello

I was planning on buying the 5810T ,but can't decide whether the su9400 will be enough. Can it run HD movies/photoshop cs4 and demanding applications smoothly? and is taking 4330HD will help?

    thx[=

    Yes.

Not neccesary. Although Photoshop has GPU accelerated functions, Intel 4500 is enough for it. Intel 4500 plays 1080p content fine.

HD4330 will come in handy for gaming.

Hey there! New member, first post.

I've been reading the whole thread as I'm planning on buying a new laptop in the very near future and the 4810 Timeline really caught my eye.
At this point I have a few candidates, namely the 4810T (C2 S-model), HP dv3610 and Dell XPS M1330.

Of these, the acer is the cheapest and also the "weakest", performance-wise anyway (unfortunately the C2D model is not available here yet). The HP is a bit more expensive but has a superior processor and graphics card. The Dell is the most expensive and clearly best speced of the all.

I will basically use the computer for office/school work, so gaming perf. is not really important, but I would like it to handle HD-video well.

What I'm most interested to know from those of you that have a Timeline with a C2 Solo processor is how well it can multitask.
Here's a very common use case for my laptop:

I have Firefox open with a lot of tabs (10-15), several PDFs, Word and Outlook 2007 while streaming web radio.

Is the 4810T really a viable contender for this type of use scenario?

    Thanks!

You'd be better off with the dual core SU9400.

SU3500 has problems with heavy flash like Youtube HD.

All right well youtube HD I can live without. As I understand it, the graphics card can assist when playing 720p/1080p material from the harddrive and that's good enough for me.

What I really want to hear about is it's multi tasking capability.

So... I was on the verge of buying this...had my credit card out at Staples on Sunday, and the store manager talked me out of it. He said someone had been in to return it twice (4810T-8480, Core 2 Solo SU3500, 4 DDR3 RAM, integrated graphics, etc), due to hard disk errors caused by overheating. Obv the machine was not very old. He showed me a bunch of online discussions in which people were reporting the flash issues discussed above but also crashes with Windows Messenger IM. What else? I was bummed, bec I was so close to a decision finally!

su9400 will be a better choice for you. But then the price rises to a level that it doesn't make much sense. a Dell 14z maybe a better choice.

Keep in mind thought that the Timeline has twice the battery life of the 14z.

    Different laptops for different purposes.

    1: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=390992&highlight=100%+CPU

2 can not be solved as far as I know. use headphones as a workaround.

Can you return the laptop to Staples? that's what I would do.

Hi. I´m sorry to say I rather agree with Phil. Although under the scenario you´re describing - several browser windows open, Word, Excell, streaming radio- you might still be Ok. However, as soon as you start moving files around, downloadins things in the background or converting stuff, you´d get the radio stuttering or stopping, and everything slowing down dramatically. I´d got actually very disapointed by this, having no such experinece on my 5yrs old notebook running an obsolete Intel Celeron CPU. I ´d had no idea the other CORE was such great help. On a brighter note, you can get used to it, though it´s rather a step backwards in time. But, you´ve got the battery life!! :)

well i did.. its kinda easy... the connector is under the card reader panel, it has a glued tape to put the dongle... but the connector to the main board is different from what the asus and hp internal dongles...

    Really easy to disassemble

    Hi folks

Well i have just had my acer 4810T model on thursday & wow it is a nice laptop but i am missing the bluetooth option too, as i live in the UK.
But i am getting that sorted as i have ordered this one off ebay !=

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=350227599619

So i hope it is a easy fit, but i do PC support for a living so it should be fingers crossed haha.

I am getting a nice 1591 Mhz on the cpu but it my laptop should be 1.4.
so i am running some tests now to see why the speed is overclocked when the bios or setting are not !.... .

My link to the CPUID CPU-Z Proof =
    http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=633104
    [IMG]

also i have one dead pixel near the top left corner, but can you nice folks tell me about the acer pixel policy. about swapping it for a new laptop as i do not want a recon one in exchange.
i got the laptop dare i say it from PC World as i was looking at some other laptops & i then saw this one, so i got it... .

I have a very very stable laptop as i have turned off some stuff in vista premium as vista can be a pain. also the bios is at v1.23 & all the updates are installed.

& i have removed the TouchPad_Synaptics_v12.2.2_VISTAx86x64 update as it was making my mouse pointer lag for a sec after i pressed any key on the keyboard !!! stange but true.

i will post up some more info on the stuff i have removed or added as i spent a good 10 hours or just over modding the software & tweaks.... .

    some good tweaks here =
    http://www.blackviper.com/WinVista/supertweaks.htm
    &
    http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=2238
loads of nice stuff on the last one but there is about 40 or more pages to read & do.

well thats it for me as i am going for some tea out, so have fun all & speak soon... .

I believe that the SU3500 is running at 1.2/1.4/1.6, varies depending on usage. I did saw my CPU jump to 1591MHz before also.

cheers for the reply, as mine stays at 1.6 all the time. apart from a 1.3 dip for about 1/2 a sec when i am muti tasking.

but part from the dead pixel & no bluetooth as yet i am very happy with the laptop. & as i haved tweaked & made vista more stable & faster.

is there a way to upgrade or mod anything else ? like the GPU or gps... ??.

Also the cpu is at 1.4 now most of the time, as it does dip to 1.1 sometimes but that is right as the intel power mode kicks in.
i have just installed vista sp2 too & all is well still no settings i have changed have gone back to default what is good !!!.

i have listed a few web pages about vista tweaks as they do really help out.
so have a look to get a more faster & stable vista system.

also i am getting a good 4.15mins 4.45mins battery on high power with all the opions on full or high, so nothing goes off !!.

& about 6 hours on power save, still muti tasking with 5 web page tabs & a few mp3's playing with my wi-fi on too.

    Hello people!
This topic helped me to decide which notebook to buy :D
I've bought the Acer Timeline 4810TG [with the ATi 4330]
As soon as I got it, the 1st thing I did is I got rid of Vista and installed Windows 7 RC.
    And here's my problem:
Everything works, except the driver for the ATi card. Device manager says it cannot start.
Now the thing is that the driver is the one that came with Win7, and I cannot seem to replace it anyhow.
I've tried to install the driver package from Acer's site, and from ATi's site aswell, but no result. Tried to add manually, but all i got was a black screen, and then I had to go to Safe Mode to set the driver back.
    Here's my situation:
    Any thoughts or ideas?
    Thank you in advance.

I got it from a local computer store. They had the normal 4810T version, with the Intel graphics, and the 4810TG version, with both the Intel and ATi graphics, which cost about 30 euros more.
I've downloaded the drivers from Acer and ATI, but still it will not install. Maybe it's a Windows7 bug... guess I'll have to wait for the final product xD

Im going to phrase my questions very simply because there is a butt-load of info out there on this and other threads about the timeline... line of laptops.

I am considering the AS4810-8480 available at Office depot for $550
    link: http://www.officedepot.com/a/products/410364/Acer-AS4810-8480-14-Widescreen-Notebook/
it has the SU3500 core solo. The 'Solo' is bothering me a whole lot. this laptop (and its 15.6 inch counterpart which i am also considering for size reasons) has everything else i want: the hard drive is the right size, its got 4bg of ram, HDMI etc etc except its a single core chip, and i am extremely worried that this will not be able to handle my needs.

On a normal day, i could have a microsoft word open, and be browsing the web (10+ tabs open in firefox, some of them could be youtube or youtubeHD.) I also plan to use the HDMI output to watch movies (probably some in HD) on my 42 inch LCD. On a heavy day, I could have word open, firefox open AND be doing some video or audio encoding/compression, however, those days occur rather rarely, and i am encoding so many files when i encode that even on a super fast computer, leaving for a few hours is required.

It all comes down to 2 basic questions:

    1. how will this laptop handle the tasks i described right OUT OF THE BOX?

    2. how will this laptop handle these tasks with all the fixes applied? by this i mean, if i install windows 7 will i be doing these things without a stutter, if i solve the 100% CPU issue with the proper drivers will this make youtubeHD run better and so on. if anyone has this model (with the single core) of the timeline running windows 7, could you tell me how its working out?

I am generally interested in how this thing will do on windows 7. Its obvious no matter how you spin it that a single core is not ideal, and many users and reviews have spoke of this, however, Vista is awful, both in general, and with handling slower processors. Windows 7 supposedly is able to handle slower processors much much better, so will this make the single core handle things like i would want?

youtube HD would be choppy since it depends on cpu.
720p and some 1080p would be no problem with proper codec and player.

you mean for youtubeHD? is it simply that HD flash eats up processing cycles like joey chesnut eats hot dogs? If that is the case, would viewing youtubeHD on the 4810t with core solo be smoother and faster in Firefox when using new open video formats, or am i just totally off there?

Also, i just in general want to know how the thing runs on 7 compared to vista. Some people have reported on this very site that windows 7 on this thing is leagues ahead of it on vista. we all know 7 deals with slower processors better, but im looking for more details on how much smoother it really is

Yes, youtube (also yuotubeHD) use Flash and Flash handling is currently done in software. In software mean that CPU must handle all the job and graphics card cannot help. Chek for example 3dmark and compare how does it looks and how smooth it plays when using GPU in most test and how sloooow it plays when it uses only CPU (CPU Test).
As long as those new open video formats support (and are supported by Intel/ATI/Nvidia GPU) GPU Acceleration, they should work a way better in FF/Opera/IE/etc

Currently Adobe (Flash owner) and Nvidia are working together in order to get Flash GPU accelerated to allow Nvidia's ION platform (sh*tty Atom + GF 9300/9400) to play flash smoothly. Don't know if ATI/Intel will get anything better from this.
Also, Windows 7 will/does support inbuild GPU acceleration (can't remember if its OpenCL or MS own invention) so this also might help a lot.

Hi there. Do you think Core 2 Solo will bottleneck the HD 4330 in some 3D games and daily apps? Im thinking of getting 4810TG but only Solo version is available in Japan.

I think that solo CPU would be bottleneck in ATI GPU variant but have no evidence to show.

I think the same as embrion for 3d games. And the SU3500 won't bottleneck the HD4330 for apps, it will bottleneck the apps by itself :)

I just got a 4810 & I think I'm afraid to even try to play a YouTube HD video.

My desktop PC has an Intel Core2 Quad Q9650 overclocked to 3.8GHz and YouTube HD videos can even bog it down.

If your desktop can not play Youtube HD there's something wrong with the settings or software.

I'm not sure, I think it has to be you tube's hd. I can hit 18,000 on 3dMarkVantage with that CPU and an Nvidia GeForce280GTX. I'll check into what's wrong tho.

I just played a youtube hd vid here on my 8410 & it was choppy, but not as bad as I expected, it ran alright, certainly viewable. I upgraded my BIOS to 1.23 and have the latest Intel VGA driver. I've also done as much tweaking as I can to maximize the potential of the su3500. I've cut down on the # of programs at startup through msconfig, uninstalled a lot of the Acer bloatware, and disabled any unesscessary services in Windows Vista. I can tell you one thing that helped a lot with performance was ditching the McAfee software. I run ESET NOD antivirus along with windows firewall now.

Youtube HD can play 100% smooth on any Dual Core 1.4Ghz and higher. If it can't play on yours there must be something wrong.

    Maybe try another browser.

Seeing how YouTube is streamed it could be the internet connection as well

Does it play Smooth if you download and run... as the Single Core can also run in full screen HD if you download first... guess its its lack of enhanced Multi Tasking support, that lets down the show.
