My 3810TZ runs really smooth with windows 7 x64. Would I be able to upgrade the cpu from a u2700 to a fast core 2 duo??

I was looking online at intel's GS45 chipset features and their specifications say that the SU3500, 2700 and 9400 are not embedded. Does this mean they're not soldered to the motherboard?

I also read that the chip-set supports the intel SL9600 (dual core 2.16ghz 6mb cache, 17w).

They have it for sale here on ebay:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/Intel-Core2-DUO...0?hash=item23026aed17&_trksid=p3286.m20.l1116

Can anyone open up their machine and discover whether or not the cpu is soldered in?

I might buy the cheapest single core version (with the 4330) and try to upgrade it myself if it's not soldered.

    Thanks a lot in advance.

Oh well. I'd like to get as fast as possible and I'm a little apprehensive about even the SU9400. I suppose I can just hope for a SU9600 or some other maker's lightweight endurance notebook.

I'm talking about your internet connection being fast enough. Which is easy to verify by the red bar.

I have from 1.23 & the 1.26 is smooth as i have had no problems at all.
but i have not really had any problems so far, i got the laptop with vista & then i tweaked & turned of some apps & services to make it a lot quicker & smoother.... these & more are listed a few pages back.

still waiting for my BT cable, but i am 10/10 happy so far with this 4810t laptop.

Small battery question for my acer 4810T: I have it on AC power all the time at the moment, but I'm definitely gonna be taking it to my university lectures in a month's time, so i'd be using its battery. My old Toshiba laptop had a battery problem from the beginning-it would last not more than an hour- so i'm not used to using it. I wanted to ask whether or not I should wait for the battery to run out completely in order to recharge it. some people say i should, some say it's not necessary. I just want to make sure i"m doing the right thing in order to keep this battery as long as possible, without it being damaged.

I hadn't had any 100%CPU problems since I donwloaded the vga and lan latest drivers, as indicated in another thread.

Today, cpu spiked at 100% for about a minute after I pressed the eject button for the driver, but i waited for it to come down by itself without shutting it down and it did, so I was pretty happy about that and thought it was just a random thing. 10 minutes later, I wanted to watch a dvd and pressed the button to open the driver. That was it, everything froze, task manager wouldn't work, and the mouse wasn't responding either. Needless to say, I had to shut it down manually.

Now I'm too scared to push that button again-what do you think the problem might be????

It's always advisable to close Explorer windows and everything else that is accessing the drive at the moment before opening the drive. If another program tries to access the drive when you open it you get problems.

Windows explorer was not open...I just had internet explorer, and a pending windows update( I never know WHAT to download from the updates).
Then again, and this might be a very stupid question, on task manager windows explorer is always in 'processes'-but that might be totally normal?!

You should play around a bit more to see if it is reproducable. Also if the drive light indicates busy wait for it to finish before opening.

Ok I've tried it several times and, it seems that it takes a while for the disk to actually be ejected...when I'd open windows explorer after like 3 minutes it would only show my acer hard disk, and nothing in the dvd driver, whereas my disk was still in. It does eject after some time. I recently reinstalled vista..could this be a software problem?

Still me, this time with a less serious 'problem': i want to upgrade my wireless lan driver but i dont know if I should download the atheros or intel update from the acer support website. How do I know which one? Is it written somehwere on my computer?

most likely it should be the intel driver, if your notebook has wifi b/g/n. I would download the driver from intel.

install sp2 asap & go back a few pages to my thead about what stuff to turn off & tweak your vista or xp install.
as it speeds up the laptop & cuts down on the services etc you do not need.

Hi all. Im almost sold on the c2s version (either 15" or 14") but am wondering how would the C2S work at video editing such as stuff like windows movie maker or cyberlink power director type stuff? nothing amazing, literally just like images, short video clips and music/sound?

secondly would it handle design software well, such as photoshop or gimp?

    Thanks :)

Can you provide us with additional information on the BT cable that you purchased? I'd be interested in getting one for my 4810t as well.

I also had a question regarding re-installing Windows. As you all know, the laptop does not come with any Windows discs; instead, you have the option of creating backup discs that will reset your computer to its factory-installed settings, including all of the bloatware that Acer includes. Is there a way for me to just install a fresh copy of Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit using the Windows Vista product key on the bottom of my laptop? If so, what are my options to accomplish this? I'd prefer to have as clean an install of Windows Vista as possible.

    Thanks.

After I got my laptop, these days I seem to have lot of questions than answers....

    1. How to access the Launch Manager in 4810.?

I tried reinstalling it and then accessing it by going to the installed folder. I was expecting a window to comeup, but nothing happened. I wanted to swtich off my Wifi on statup

    2. How do I access the ePower Management.?

Same as above, shouldn't it have a window. I want to keep my brigtness on minmum. I did it via windows, but on startup it gets back to the default 20% settings.

    3. My System is labelled 4810TZ on outside, but the Windows and other softwares detect it as 4810T. When downloading BIOS and drivers for which versions do I need to get?

Thats too many questions already, will save rest for another time and Google (ooops almost missed BInnnnnnnG)

    Thanks in advance

    1. Launch Manager is just the display of hot keys basically, like when you press FN+up arrow, it should show screen brightness level, FN+right arrow will show the volume level on the screen, and the Wi-fi toggle, will show enable/disable.
    2. ePower is the same, it is just a program that is enable when it's on battery and disable when it's on power plug.
    3. 4810/t/tz is all the same for BIOS as far as I know.

    Hi,
I will receive my new timeline 4810tz (intel su4100 + gma 4500HD) tomorow.
    Should I install xp, or let pre-installed win7 ?

What about the battery time with Xp+ rmclock ? (compare to vista and acer ePower)
Does the optical drivre turn off ? And the screen dim on unplug ?

    Thanks

I want a powerful, light pc with good batterylife. I am considering the following alternatives that cost the same here:

ASUS UL30A C2D 1.3 4GB/500 13.3#W7HP (advantage: really good review at cnet.com, 2 years warranty, 8cell battery, 12 hours) Kinky touchpad on the downside.

    OR

ACER ASPIRE TIMELINE 4810TG C2D 1.4 4GB/320 14.1#W7HP (advantage: can be upgraded to 8Gb of RAM, has a dedicated ATI graphicsboard with 512Mb, 6-cell battery, 8 hours). Acer doesnt say that windows7 is 64 bit as the others do... and has the worst battery time.

    OR

    ASUS PRO32A C2D 1.3 4GB/320 13.3#W7P/XPP (advantage: Windows7 professional, 2 years warranty, 8-cell battery, 12 hours)

    OR

SAMSUNG X420 C2D 1.3 4GB/320 14#W7HP (advantage: lighter than the others, really nice and bright screen, 6-cell battery, 9 hours)

They all have the same cpu, SU7300 @ 1,3GHz even though Acer claims it to be 1,4GHz (but that doesnt exist, does it ?). Also they are all 4Gb of RAM, 1366 resolution, and big enough harddrives. And they all have bluetooth, HDMI, webcam. The weight is 1,9 kilos for all, except the brand new Samsung thats 1,7 kilos. Acer and Samsung are of course slightly bigger with their 14" screen...

    What to choose ?

    Best weight/performance is Samsung
    Best price/performance is Acer
Best review seems to be Asus UL30
Most professional specs and feel is Asus Pro32A

    Any advice ?
