    Just received my AS4810T-8480 (paid $559 Shipped/Tax/Total).
I'm experiencing the same problem here, seems like it doesn't want to accept any changes even though I "customized" my own power plan. The thing would just go back to one of their default plans and get brighter than my settings. The laptop is nice but it is starting to annoy the sh!t out of me because there are other issues on top of this; one of which is the 100% CPU load when I closed the lid and open after standby mode.
I'm Kind of regretting at the moment.

New BIOS posted on Acer support site 1.31 and 2.31(OE).
In my case they fixed battery charging process, now Blue LED goes off after battery is full.

Mine already came with this version of BIOS. No CPU load during normal tasking, but if I closed the lid for "Sleep" mode, and as soon as the lid is opened; the load is 100% and it starts to freeze. The only remedy is to do a forced shutdown.
I had this for 3 days and it is truly a piece of sh!t (yes I'm pissed -- particularly at acer)!

I just wanted to clarify to all that I bought a 4810TG with 4Gb of RAM. I considered upgrading to 8Gb directly, before initial install of W7 but chose not to, hoping for the prices of memorymodules will decrease.

Can someone who got it with Win 7 pre-installed tell us about the battery life under win 7? I have seen today an ad from Acer in PC World December 2009 stating that battery life > 8 hours for 4810T with Win7.

I have a 4810TG that I cleaned for clutter (startupprograms etc). I never need to run more than minimum brightness on the monitor. When its dark in the room I almost would like even less brightness. Thats promising for working outdoors in direct sunlight where max brightness is important (Samsungs new LED's are even brighter at max).

I never use a screensaver but let the monitor shut down after three minutes (and sleep after 30) but that almost never happens ;-) But I havent played around with the advanced powersettings (yet). The fact that it is a TG model doesnt matter when running on battery since the graphicboard is then disabled (only riunning internal graphics).

During a normal day (without lunchbreak) running office-applications and web-browsing the batteries lasts around 8 hours.

[I've had the PC for only 10 days]

I can't tell you that, but upgrading from Vista to Win7, has decreased my battery life with approx. 20% (4810T). Hopefully Acer will soon release a Win7 compatible version of ePower that will get it back to the promised battery life time...

I also notice a decrease in battery life with Windows 7. I did a clean install of ultimate 64 bit and running all the latest drivers from Acer. ePower for W7 64bit released a few weeks ago is not doing anything for my battery life.

On 99% battery the indicator shows about 7 hours remaining. On 95% this indicator stabilizes at around 4 hours. That is half of the advertised battery life and about 20-30% lower of what I had in Vista.

The battery indicator fluctuates and are just averages, they don't represent the exact amount of time or how long a battery actually lasts.

    Hi Y'all!

My 4810TZ-4183 Olympic Edition (is that dorky or what?!) is on its way to me as we speak (laid over in Houston due to bad weather :( but anyways, i have a gabillion questions after reading almost EVERY post on here, but i'll start simple :)

I briefly read a post on here (but for the life of me could never find it to go back and "reread it") that you can remove a lot of the programs you don't want and THEN make your recovery discs. Couple of questions regarding that:

    1. Can you make more than one set? Like even if the system prohibits you & says "These can only be made ONCE", can you make a "backup of your backup" on another computer?

    2. And if you reinstall back to factory condition using Acer Recovery, couldn't u then make another set, as it wouldn't know you've already made one, would it?

    3. Can you make a backup to a "external hard drive" connected by USB rather than using a DVD? Will it let you?

Ok that's it for now. Hope to have it be delivered this morning. You don't understand, in the past month i've owned the HP dm3z, dell 1440 and the Sony Vaio NW240, and found assorted problems with all 3. I am crossing my fingers on this one, i've always LOVED Acer but there laptops are always so ugly! Then i saw this on Amazon, keep your fingers crossed for me!

    Signed,

Goldilocks & The Three Laptops lol

P.S. Sorry if i am posting in the wrong area but i couldn't find the "Post New Thread" Button, i saw it before, but then it went away and only "Post Reply" could be found- (i know, i know, i am too feeble to live, hence my name! Just pat my head and move on lol)

i use my bluetooth for my hands free bluetooth jabra earpiece to talk on the computer with Skype (its fantastic - gave up my home phone a year ago :) and aslo to transfer pics between my cell phone and computer- as much as i LOVE LOVE LOVE my Acer Timeline AS 4810, i really don't like the placement of the SD slot, can't find it in less than optimum lighting conditions, so the bluetooth is sooooo much easier to send or receive photos between the computer and phone-

I have Acer Timeline 4810TG more then half year, so far Timeline didin't disappoint me when it come to performance and energy saving.

    with my spec
    Intel C2D SU9400 1.4Ghz 800Mhz
    2GB DDR3 1066MHZ
    ATI HD4330 512MB
    Windows 7 Home Premium 32bits

Play games with ATI and full processor usage it hold up to 3 and half hour battery times.

With normal surfing, office work it stay more then 8 hours.

personally think that, acer timeline 4810tg is worth for buying

Hi, I also have this remarkable machine. BUT!!! Has anyone noticed that it's only SATA1 (150) and NOT SATA2 (300)?? Why in the heck would Acer release a new laptop with OLD specs?. By the way. I really don't recommend buying any laptop of the ACER brand. Their service sucks! I asked them if this machine is SATA1 or SATA2. Guess what the support answers!! "YES, It's got SATA" Aaaargh stupid Acer. So I asked them again but later hoping someone else answers more correctly. Guess what the answer was then?? "Sorry, you have to call telephone support". Are they serious? So I called telephone support. Guess what the answer was this time? "Sorry we can't help you with this. Why would you want to know?" I answered "Because I want to invest in a SSD instead. So the machine is faster". So the support says "Sorry we can't help you if you change the configuration". REALLY these guys are sooo STUPID. They are not letting my question go through to a REAL technician. Can't they just answer the simple Question? So, my question is to you who have Acer 4810TG. Can you answer what SATA mode you have? Thx

I don't get it? You write that you know it is a SATA1, so why do you call ACER and ask?

I don't know the quality of ACER support, but of course they shouldn't support you in changeing to a SSD disk, which will void warranty.

You are just as stupid as Acer for not googling the GS45 chipset.
A download of the documents (ICH9 Feature) indicates this:
Isn't it obvious the controller is SATA 2?
Just google the harddisk from the serial in Western Digital or Seagate site to see if the HD is SATA Gen2.
There is no harddisk size limitation.
For BIOS firmware laptop there is a partition size limitation but not for EFI firmware laptop.

Those specs are what you can buy the laptop with. There is no limitation on how large in size an ssd or hdd you install. I have an 160GB Intel SSD in my 3810t.

Check CPU-Z to find out the chipset you have. If you have the chipset that weinter pointed out, you have SATA/300.

Where did you see SATA Gen 1?
On my Laptop (3810TZ almost identical laptop to 4810 except the size) using Intel Rapid Storage Software I see SATA Gen 2.
Since ICH7 it was already SATA Gen 2.

So can you try updating the software to the latest Intel Rapid Storage?
And can you check the harddisk too because if the disk is SATA Gen 1 then controller will slow down to SATA Gen1

my lappy at home, once i found out i will tell u my harddisk info and take a screen shot for u guys....

currently i was asking a fren who work in acer to find out what actually is 4810TG model SATA generation...

i going to change a new ssd too... if it was SATA2.

*come back from my fren that check in details the transfer rate can up to 3.0 Gb/s (300 MB/s).

it is SATA2 = =, from acer Technical support said normal SATA... which one should i believe?

That just means the drive if in a computer with SATA 2 will run at up to 3GB/s, but since your 4810 is running SATA 1, it will run at SATA 1 speeds and be slower.

It is a confirm SATA 2 Disk Controller since there is no SATA 1 GS45 Chipset but harddisk may vary.

    FITTING BLUETOOTH MODULE ON 4810T**

Resurrecting an old thread because it helped me a lot...

It's a lot easier to fit than on the 3810T....! Fitting the lead from the BT module into the motherboard socket is a bit tricky (got to make sure it's the right way up before you put it in). :)

Shame there's no 3G mini PCI-E modem socket but I guess space is at a premium because of the DVD-RW.

I haven't seems this Bluetooth PCI-E modem socket so near the hdd on the 4810TGZ....I might get in if it's so ease to access.

    The 3G socket does exist...I have two socket port PCI-E free (0 & 5).

There are different sorts of socket for the bluetooth modules - in mine it's a 4-pin but thinner than the one in the 3810T grrrr! I've now ordered the correct one (I hope)! http://i426.photobucket.com/albums/pp343/syp_01/4pin.jpg

Do you mean there's a spare mini pci-e slot? There's no sim slot on mine... :-(

    Thanks for the photobucket shot...

Yes, you should be able to find the spare socket for the 3G card

I've install the last "Intel Rapid storage Technology": v9.6.0.1014

Support for the Intel Rapid Storage Technology (Intel RST)

to know it, as it shows in their control panel all the free PCI-E storage and the ones actually used....

I'm on an Acer 4810TZG (very last series before the TimelineX).

Where did you get your Bluetooth Modem?? I found some but doesn't looks as yours

    EDIT:
OK! I found your post and the model your using: •Bluetooth board: Foxconn BCM92045NMD, Model Number: T60H928.00

There is no sim slot in mine so whether you can fit a mini pci-e WWAN card or not is academic!

The Eb*y seller for the BT is justopeshop and expects stock in for the correct socket and module for the 4810TZG next week.

A couple of things about the 4810TZG annoy me - one is that it makes a loud beep when the power lead is plugged in (anyone know how to disable that, it's completely unnecessary?) and the screen flashes black every so often which is presumably something to do with switching between the onboard graphics and the radeon card.

There's a thread about the Beep sound when unplugging to battery here...have a look around the 1810T threads tweaks maybe...i think i saw that there yesterday....!
It's not unnecessary as it is the switchable graphics from the Ati card to the Intel GMA card for the battery saving purpose, the screen is flashing because its switching but i must admit that the beep is pretty loud!

I found the new card dedicated for the 4810TZ: BCM92046NMD....on eb*y

It should be a spare slot PCI-E for the 3G under the top of the keyboard, right side...there's no reason as when you look at the disasambly manual you can clearly see it!!

Thanks for the pointers about the beeps when the power lead is plugged in...

***update*** I just unistalled the Realtek sound card drivers (and let it reinstal generic drivers on restart) the sound seems to work fine and no beeps!

The point I was making about the 3G was that there is no external sim slot on the 4810TZG (unlike on my old 3810T) so there's no point in installing an internal modem!
