holyandrei, Regarding the T5500, this CPU is apparently available in two socket types, M and P..... if you get a P, yes it will work.
killerrabbit775, if you mean 5315(the focus of this thread) then the T8300 is a yes... if 4315 which seems to be very similar... not sure, but I suspect it will work.
-
hi to all, i want to upgrade my 5315 with T7500 and i have buy a used one and i instal it as you said but when i start there is only a black scren and onl a flash on the laptop. what is the reason, maybe the cpu is not woking! sorry for my english im from turkey, thanks in advance for your help
-
T7500 should work fine so either you've got a bad CPU or you just need to update your BIOS.
-
My BIOS is 1.43, on the cpu stats LF80537 T7500 SLAF8, 2.2/4/800 is this the right cpu and hov can i identify p or m cpu.
-
T7500 SLAF8 is a socket P CPU which means it is supported by your laptop. BIOS v1.43 is fine, you don't need to update it. So I really don't know what the problem is here, the only thing I can think of is faulty CPU but I guess it might be something else............
Ensure you've mounted the CPU correctly, try to remove it and put it back, make sure you've "locked" the socket too... -
i have start CPU-Z and the information are: MAINBOARD GL960 AND PROCESSOR is INTEL CELERON M 530, SOCKET 479 MPGA; is this the same processor
-
Try to see again the screw in processor socket , maybe need to turn more with a screwdriver.
Greetings. -
many thanks for the aswers, i get be below information from intels website :
Intel® Celeron® M Processor 530 (1M Cache, 1.73 GHz, 533 MHz FSB) Socket M'
as i know you said socket p but here state socket m? -
i do every thing but i have only black scren, ı screw the socket but nothing, when i put my old processor it works.....
-
Where did you see that the Celeron you have is a socket M? Link please.
This is just not possible because ALL Aspire 5315 use socket P CPUs.. -
http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=29733
i have : Intel® Celeron® M Processor 530 (1M Cache, 1.73 GHz, 533 MHz FSB) Socket M
this is from itels webpage -
http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=33100&processor=530&spec-codes=SLA2G
-
i search with cpu-z and there state intel celeron m 530 socket 479 mPGA , when i search by intel with m 530 i see socket p also on acer turkey states that this is a m precessor.
-
Alright...what does CPU-Z says about the "Code Name"? Dothan? Yonah? Merom? Banias?
-
CPU-z says Conroe-L, soory i was online right now
-
And what's the CPU-Z version you're using? You know what, can you upload a screenshot of the CPU-Z main screen?
-
1.52.2 sorry but i can't put screenshot
-
Alright nevermind. We're doing this way too complicated anyway. If you look over this entire thread you'll see numerous 5315 with celerons that has been upgrade to C2D socket P.
The STARTER of this thread, bigozone, had the same Celeron 530 you have and he upgrade to C2D T5450(if I recall) socket P...... -
thanks for the informations, i thing the used cpu is bad therefore i trie an other cpu.
-
ok i can buy a T5450 procesor and i have an celeron 560! can i upgrade?sorry for my bad english
-
hi to all, i find a T5470 can i use this one?
-
Well, T5470 is socket P(google it) so it should work.
ark.intel.com appears to be down so I can't check it with Intel. The cached version of that site claims it's a socket P though:

many thanks for the information

I just flashed my BIOS for the first time!!!! Yayyy! v1.29 to v1.43!!
edit: now im going to up the cpu to an t8300 and go with 3.5g of ram...im in a contest with my friend who bought a dell for like 2000 while i got this for 700 -
I have an Aspire 5315 ICL50 which came with a Celeron 530. I've just upgraded to a core 2 duo 7250 SLA49. All went smoothly. Everest reported a GL960 chipset and everything else a 965 express family chipset. Everest still reports a GL960 chipset. Upgraded BIOS to 1.45 before changing the chip.
Thanks to the info from this site. -

would this be good for my laptop?? i wanna get all 3 gigs in one swoop and have them all agree
Edit: i do not have a new cpu yet but i am conteplating getting either a t8300 or a 9500 -
i love this thread. Helped me realize what all i can do to my computer. Thank you all for contributing.

Guys I finally got a hold of a T7300 on ebay for pretty reasonable. It hasnt arrived yet but after looking at the ebay ad more I realize its a T7300 ES (Enhanced Speedstep). Still a Merom and socket P but I wonder if the ES means its better than a regular ol T7300??
Has anybody else installed a Txxxx with the ES designation into their 5315?
Freaking out a little here!! Hope I bought the right one... -
-
ES indeed means Engineering Sample( what does it mean?) but why would it mean its been used a a lot? I don't get it
@michacerboy Most likely it will work. -
Ahhhh so it means Engineering Sample, not Enhanced Speedstep.
Thanks for the clarification and speedy responses!!
How does an engineering sample make it used more? Should I resell it on ebay and buy a regular T7300?
Ive waited a long time for this upgrade and if it doesnt work Im going to be majorly bummed. -
-
Awwww poop I just read the wikipedia. Had I known it was an ES beforehand, I wouldve moved on and purchased a regular t7300. I hope this works out ok!!
-
EDIT: btw how well does that 7200 rpm hdd work? im thinking about getting something like this? -
There is a remarkable difference and at home, I have a side by side comparison I did of each HD (5400rpm vs 7200rpm) on HD Tune software. The 7200rpm is at minimum 40% faster in most categories, and up to 70% in other areas.
Highly recommended upgrade!! I'd stick to the Hitachi 7k200's though... Newegg has some pretty good pricing (although I bought mine "new in box" off ebay for a few bucks cheaper)... -
-
Well, its in!
Im T-7300(es)ing it all the way now baby!!!
Much faster, boot time/shut down time and my applications are opening in the flash of an eye now.... score!
I used PC Wizard 2009 to check the processor, and it does say I have 2 cores operating. It even showed the temps for each core. So Im assuming that the ES processor I bought at least has 2 cores (I read on that wiki article about some only having 1 core activated).
I think Im good now. But if I do find a good deal on a T9300, Im getting that next -
Hi there,
First of all thank you so much for this thread, the clear and simple step by step instructions are fantastic and so useful.
I purchased my Acer 5315 late last year during a sale and only recently found out just how easily upgradeable the unit is. So far I have done the following:
Replaced HDD with 7200RPM 500GB
Upgraded RAM to maximum 3GB
Replaced CPU with a T7300 (just did this before posting).
This really is a fantastic laptop, I can't recommend it enough. I'm considering doing an internal hack to add an external WI-FI antenna to get some extra range out of it.
Once again thank you for the great thread. -
michacerboy: why not just go with a t9500 if you are going to get a t9xxx
-
I have been testing Mac OS X 10.5.8 Leopard on my Acer 5315 for two weeks now. No problems. i have sound and display and graphics and all my ports and drives work.... the ONLY problem i am having at all is it doesn't connect online yet. Can't find the right drivers or my router needs to be switched to a wifi access point. Trying both approaches. i will keep you updated on this project if anyone is interested.
After i get the internet configured i will VERIFY wether or not 4 Gigs of Ram is acceptable on an Acer X system. i bet $10 that it is supported. -
I should remind you that the discussions even slightly related to Hackintosh are NOT allowed on these boards so please avoid it. -
This is only true, but you can upgrade the firmware of your 965 chipset and flash it into your bios and viola! 4 gigs is accepted on your 64 bit Vista Ultimate (assuming that is what you are running. As for the other versions or if your still running XP, i couldn't tell you. But i have tested it on Vista Ultimate 64 and it worked (only after upgrading the firmware)
-
The problem here is not the OSs 32bit architecture limit but Intel's budget chipset. We're aware of the fact 32bit OS will never see 4GB but as I said that is not the problem here - the problem is the hardware.
You've tested 4GB on Aspire 5315 and it works? Screenshots? -
Bios version is 1.45
Use driver checker AND DriverDetective and it lists GM965/960 as the chipset drivers. So doesn't that mean the Arcadia motherboard accepts the GM965 chipset on some drives as well? Or is it just that they are compatible with each other? Or is Windows just retarded and i don't know how to read Windows? -
i will slap my stock 160HD in there tomorrow and boot up Windows and show you and post the pics here for all to see 4 Gigs works on Vista Ultimate 64
-
GL960 and GM965 are basically the same thing that's why many programs report the GL960 as GL960/GM965. However GL960, being a budget version of GM965, is crippled. It has some limits done by Intel on purpose. One of these limits is the supported RAM...
All 5315 are the same, they all come with GL960 and there is NO way to..convert that chipset into GM965.
-
Chipper, do you still have the other bilingual keyboard. I may be interested.
PM me please.

Hello, just stumbbled across this thread and forum
Now i have the Acer 5315, with the Intel GL960 chipset. My specs aare
Celeron 550 2Ghz
2GB ram
80GB hard drive.
Now according to the intel website, this chipset supports upto 533mhz FSB cpu's. So does that make the Pentium dual core T2370, T2390 and T2410 the best 3 CPU's for my chipset?
thanks -
