thanks, so what happens if you install a 800mhz/677mhz cpu on a 533mhz chipset? does it work to its full capability?

also ram, i have 2GB DDR2 533? Mhz ram. Now i have read on this thread i believe than any higher speed ram is not compatible. True?

the T5850 seems reasonable enough from the list. I'll try to find it cheap :)

    I have T7500 on a GL960 and it works at 800Mhz FSB.

About the RAM - you can use a 667Mhz one, it should work. You can use even faster RAM but it will downclock to 667Mhz.

No. Someone tried to install Intel 4965 but I don't remember how that went. I'll try to find that thread, I'll update this post if I find it.

Edit: Found it, apparently 4965AGN DOES work:

I have tested the AR5006EG (marked as Toshiba card :p) and 4965AGN in my 5315 and both worked perfectly. Regarding the 4965AGN, the Wifi LED worked, but not with the AR5006EG. It seems to be by the age of the card AR5006EG, one generation behind the original AR5007EG. But the glamour of the AR5006EG is: one of the best Wifi cards for Wifislax ;)

Either way, with the 5006EG, everything works except the LED. I think you can install any wifi card, because the only companies that restrict the wifi card are HP/Compaq and Lenovo. My old Compaq V2000 is nothing but a BIOS error at start with a card that is not Broadcom... His counterpart, Hp Dv1000 with Intel 2200bg, don't start with a non-Intel card...

Also, i have upgraded to a 500GB HDD Toshiba ;)

PS. I'm writing this post, connected with the 4965AGN.

    ok... thanks for answer.
so the motherboard/chipset cant support that fsb 1066mhz?
i think that this is penryn cpu ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=209284) p8600
only difference whit P8600 and T8300 that i found is the FSB bus speed 1066mhz/800mhz and VID Voltage Range

    hi mates.
i've decided to upgrade my 5315's cpu with an intel T2300 (1.66ghz, core duo, 2M L2, 800mhz fsb). should it work fine? think i've got to upgrade my bios first, of course. thanks in advance.

T2300 is a socket M and it will NOT work!

Check the link from my previous post to see a list with compatible CPUs.

Yeah, a 800Mhz FSB CPU should work with your 667Mhz RAM. I'm currently running a T7500 with 2GB of 667Mhz RAM.

By the way in case you are wondering - no, you cannot go higher than 667Mhz RAM on Aspire 5315. No, you cannot upgrade to 4GB, it's not supported by the chipset.

thanks again. i'm going to buy a t7300 or a t7500, at the price of 35~45€, it should be a good upgrade. i've already 2 Gbytes of RAM, and i think i dont need more ATM.
what about the noise and heat? now the fan speed is pretty low, with low noise, i'm worried about getting an hotter CPU and so getting an increased level of noise.

The notebook should run cooler, quieter and with improved better battery life. When cleaned(from dust and such) and with some undervolting(managed to lower the voltages more than 0.1v) my T7500 is running at 45ºC, with almost no fan spinning when doing light tasks like browsing, office etc.

For more info on undervolting check "The Undervolting Guide", in the "Hardware..." section.

Maybe it is luck but I found a T8100 for USD$30 (in my country, Mexico), and logically i take it, there is little money ...

I hope it is working well, though i intended to sell my 5315, because I've had problems in the last months, the screen failed and i had to replace it in may '09, the cooler is malfunctioning although I cleaned it (i need to replace it), and sometimes when I turn on the machine does not recognize the keyboard and the touchpad... But I am thinking to do the sell once i have that T8100 in my hands...

Someone knows about the problem on don't recognize keyboard and touchpad?

    Thanks.

Well, looks like my luck didnt hold, ... the cpu degraded over the course of a week to the point it will not boot. Started with a problem shutting down, had to hold the button to shut off. then it had problems starting up a couple of times, but always worked great once up and running. Now it will not boot with the t4200 in it. Tried different ram, even went so far as trying a reinstall of Win7 Enterprise, but it would not even startup to the point of being able to run the install.

I have put the Celeron 540 back in and all is well with it. I also tried knocking it back from bios 1.45 to 1.43, but no change.

    Anyone have any thoughts?

My only suggestion would be of the kill or cure nature, assuming its only the cpu that you have changed (in hardware terms).

Download and burn this http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/ and use the newly burned CD as a boot disc. It contains lots of test software which will let you stress the memory, cpu or a combination of the two.

Memtest is very good for proving that memory is working ok and assuming it checks out ok, you can run the cpu stress tests. I don't have a copy of the latest UBCD to hand but i'm pretty sure there is a Prime test on there which will load the cpu 100%. Let that run overnight and that will tell you if your cpu is ok (plus the laptop cooling!).

If you come back with the results we can go from there...

    Good luck. :)

(Please note if your cpu or memory are slightly dodgy, stress testing could kill them completely - so proceed at your own risk)

finally upgraded to a t7300 - it works great.
but i have a "problem": the fan i s always on, even if its not at the max speed, i can hear it spinning. i have 1.33 bios version, maybe i should upgrade?
    i got a 30° temperature this way - lol - but i prefer lower noise :)

Upgrade to v1.43, is worth. I don't recomend the upgrade to v1.45 , because since then, the computer was so hot, and the screen suddendly failed :(

I have replaced the screen (bad luck, out of warranty) and flashed to v1.43 bios...

Well 1.33 had some issues that has been fixed in the latter version so updating the BIOS might be a good idea.

i have the 5315-2698. ive already upgraded my memory to 3gb and my bios is v1.43. whats the best cpu to upgrade to for heat, speed, and battery lif? is the t8300 probably my best choice or would it be worth going for a t9500? ive already upgraded my system to windows 7. does it have the overheating problem with the t9500 like vista did?

We only have one T9500 tester for the last 2 years, doubt we'll find one for W7 anytime soon. But considering the fact W7 is basically an improved Vista I'd expect the same issues to appear. For the best CPU well..check the last few pages of this thread, I'm tired of repeating the same thing over and over again.

I have upgraded my actual configuration: Celeron 550, 500 GB Toshiba HDD, 2 GB RAM, Intel 4965AGN, Bios v1.42 to a Penryn Intel C2D T8100. Already installed Windows 7 Ultimate RTM.

I have a problem, my system show continuous error messages like "The display driver has stopped working and have been recovered" not exactly that but is like, and at the same time the display gone and shows black image returning after the crash and recover, also some glitches at text and other things...

Also, sometimes reboot with a BSOD error 0X000000A5, about a "Your BIOS is not ACPI compliant"   Maybe i need to update to v1.43? But i have not a very old version: v1.42... The v1.45 was a headache that "destroy" my screen :(

Trying to reinstall Windows 7 and the same, installing Windows Vista too... But i have installed Windows XP SP3 and all is running fine! Also with CPUZ i have seen that SpeedSteep is Working fine with 1.2-2.1 GHz interval. And running a Stress Test with Everest Ultimate and within 1 hour none error and no reboots...

I don't know why with Windows XP work well, but not Vista or 7

Sounds like you're using a Beta instead of RTM. If I recall Vista's Betas had ACPI problem like that..
The video driver problem you have might be solved by installing the newest drivers directly from Intel.

No, aren't Beta, Win 7 build 16385 (RTM), and Vista SP2...

I have installed the final video driver from Intel (previous to Oct, was RC) and the same issues...

Only XP SP3 works well and i don't know why, also i think my pc have something wrong, with W7 sometimes don't works the keyboard and Touchpad, until one, two or three reboots...

I installed windows 7 worked fine didn't even need to load any drivers , except had major issuses with networked printer but i think that may have been drivers on networked computer where the printer was connected were 32 bit and windows 7 version i installed was 64 bit , went to xp instead just cause I don't like the windows 7 interface
windows 7 runs about the same speed as xp , connects to the net really fast on wireless and generally is very good , I just didn't like the pinining thing and tabbed programs and the aero shake thing is just a plain silly idea
oh and another really annoying thing is they have moved things around just for the sake of moving them ie things in the control panel and other settings etc that are easy to find in xp it's like they are trying to hide them in windows 7
no classic start menu either although I believe you can get a freeware aftermarket prog to do this

on another note upgraded the cpu this afternoon got a t5550 cheap 5 mins to install and bob's your uncle running faster again

does anyone know if the aspire 5573 is as easy to upgrade? or can point me to some threads as i can't find any

    thanks in advance

Help!!! i tried to update the bios to accept cpu upgrade, it came up with validate error and completely froze up. after an hour i removed the battery to shut down as nothing was working.

But since then it wont turn on, cant use bios recovery disc, not even the orange light comes on when the power supply is plugged in.

    Any ideas please?

    Thank you

I have swaped tree memorys, and the same issues with Vista and 7.

Also tried OS X Leopard and similar video errors and panic errors at few minutes... But, as i already say, with XP it's OK. Also, Ubuntu Linux works fine like WXP...

Seems to be a problem with Video... Maybe with the C2D has overclocked the video chip from the original GL960 400 or 350 Mhz to the GM965 500 Mhz...

Whatever, i already ordered a new Dell , this 5315 is near of the end of his life (so much problems after the first year old)...

It's highly unlikely that the CPU upgrade has caused a video problem though I really can't say what could. A CPU cannot upgrade the chipset, it cannot turn GL960 into a GM965. When I upgraded my CPU I sooo hoped that will happen but it didn't :)

    Hey,
Has anyone had there CD/DVD drive crap out on them? Mine just did, it wont read anything that is placed in to it, but the last time I checked, it burns alright. Does anyone know if it is the SATA style drive, and what type of drive would be a good replacement?

I'll take a look around and I'll let you know if I find something. Will post in this thread.
If I recall this has happened to the creator of this thread, bigozone. He had his ODD replaced for a NEC one - 6500a if I recall. He said he never had a problem ever since. I believe it's a SATA drive.

Okay it's apart, to say that its hard is an undertatement, the whole laptop has to be dismantled and accessed throughthe top cover meaning out with the keyboard, cd drive, wireless card, fan and screen...

This was the only reference to dismantleing i found, but its a good starting point then you can see what is left to be done

No. CD/DVD drives for 5315 are IDE. I have installed so much drives for test, and also replaced the very bad Mata ¿UJ-870? what since the first day don't read many CD and after months, none CD...

But like i say before, i even installed an older Sony CDRW Combo (only reads DVD) and obviously, SATA CDRW drives not exist...

maximum is 3GB of memory, and with latest Intel drivers you can get 3.0 rating in Vista/Win7

    BigO,

If I upgrade my cpu to T5800 or T7500 and get 2 gig of RAM, would that make it start faster and run smoother and not bog down as musch. I'm running vista 32 bit.

Thanks in advance for helping a newby,

    Woody

Ill answer for BigO. Short answer...YES. Any processor upgrade and memory upgrade will help. I went with a T5450 because it a significant upgrade from a Celeron and it was 50 bucks. I added a gig of RAM because it was 30 bucks. That was a year ago. The difference between a Celeron and Core 2 duo is fantastic. I had Vista Basic but now I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit and everything is even better. However I cannot comment on the T5800 or the T7500. The great thing about this laptop is that it is EASY to upgrade components. Upgrade the CPU, add some RAM, swap out your CD Burner/DVD Read Only for a CD/DVD Read-Write Combo..install a bigger hard drive...etc etc. Long answer....yes.

I will link you to the start of this thread....so you can get a better understanding. Even I have to read this every once in a while.
