Thanks mooler. I just won a used T5800 off ebay for 41 bucks. Says it's guaranteed not to be DOA. I'm running readyboost now through an 8 gig flash drive and I hope to see a significant improvement with the CPU. Again, thank you.

You're in luck - I've been looking at the same thing. If you want to dump all of the Setup screen forms and text strings, you'll need either Linux or Mac/BSD to extract the LZMA-compressed Setup executable from the BIOS file. Using Python 2.6.x for Windows, you can run MaxL's vtenable.py script to patch the BIOS file. See this post at the MyDigitalLife forums for more details.

    Hi KeithB,
I'm trying to follow the instructions from MyDigitalLife forums, but I get an error...
I've downloaded lzma file but don't know how to install it in python... Using Windows 7 as OS, don't have Linux at the moment...
Any idea how can I work around that???

    hi

I upgrade from Intel celeron M550 socket P (mFCPGA478) to Intel core 2 duo T5550 socket P with bios version 1.43

But the first when I try to change CPU and I put T5550 ...the processor don`t enter in the socket ...I try anything but don`t enter ...afet that I see a pin was a bit crooked ...I turned ...but nothing ...don`t want .... after that I had a very good idea and I turn off the socket with out processor ...and I put the processor into .after that I turn on the socket and surprise .... The processor enter.
After that I turn on the notebook ...and the windows star.

    and now it`s 5315-202G12Mi Intel core 2 duo T5550

    BigO,

Thanks to your instructions, I now have an Intel core 2 duo T5800 cpu in my 5315. I can't wait to get the 2gb of memory done. Found the memory at Walmart for $29.00 for the 1gb stick, so $60.00 will get ma maxed out. Seems like a good price to me. I even ordered a core 2 dou sticker and took the celeron inside sticker off. Life is good. :)

    Thanks,
    Woody

Fortunately you don't need that Setup dump script (or LZMA) to enable VT. That script is only for documenting the H2O BIOS Setup strings and flags, if you intend to tweak/hack what's displayed and editable in your BIOS.

    Hi

After I upgrade the CPU celeron M550 (2Ghz) to T5550 core2duo(1,86) ... I don`t see a big difference. It`s the same and If I use Right mark Cpu ...it`s worst ...because when I play some games ...the CPU X factor multiplier from Right mark CPu ...don`t swicth always ...and remain to X6 :) undervolting :)).
Maybe to change at T8xxx or T9xxx and I `ll see improving.
I use ready boost ...but the same ... not improving of speed ...I thing that it`s imposible to improve the speed with a flash memory don`t matter how much you put .

    bye

there should be a significant difference between M550 and T5550... you have 2 cores, you can run MKV HDrip videos now, your laptop should be cooler...

don't use RMClock - unless for undervolting ;), just switch to High performance in Power options and don't worry if the C2D is not running at 1.86GHz... it will go there if it needs it... :D

the Intel T9500 Core2Duo processor worked fine for me. No Vista reinstall or anything. Just updated my drivers, rebooted and it worked right out of the box. Thank you so much for this thread.

Check your event logs to see if error messages about the cpu firmware are there (I tested going from a T5550 to a T9300, and T9500ES, on Vista HP SP1). If you reinstall Vista the error messages will go away and the power management features of the cpu will be fully enabled.

To test the power/temp management use Prime95 or OCCT to load test the system, bearing in mind you do so at your own risk. You may find the system will overheat and crash. :)

2GB guaranteed. 3GB might work, it did for the majority of NBR members(if not all of them) who tried it out.

5315 can't take 4GB ram. 3GB is the unofficial maximum.

    Hi ,

I upgraded the cpu to C2D T8300. I tried to upgrade RAM to 3 Gb but machine did not support. So I installed 1 gb + 1gb.

I know there are people who installed 3 gb but im my machine I could not. Does anyone know the reason? Thank you for your help.

did you try swapping positions of your 2gb and 1gb module... in my case it will only work if 1gb is in first and 2gb is in second slot.

    Hi all,

I'm asking about a different kind of upgrade - WiFi. I have the 5720ZG (meaning, Atheros b/g), and want to upgrade to an Intel 5300 or 5350 (or maybe a 6300 if there is a way to mount it... friggin' Half-Mini Card). I have found a full-size, HP-branded 5300 for a decent price on eBay, but I also know that HP machines have BIOS restrictions that allow only HP cards to be installed.
Does anyone know if the other way around is true or not, i.e. if a HP card will work in a non-HP laptop (specifically, the 5720ZG, which AFAIK has no BIOS whitelist at all - I've previously upgraded an 5720G to a generic 5300 and had no problems)? The only non-HP cards I can find are twice the price...
Also, what about IBM/Lenovo cards; do those have a "reverse whitelist" (where the card checks the machine) or not?

    Thanks,
    .NetRolller 3D

    Ok, here it is:
on this LINK, there is a list of laptops with Intel 5300 wifi card in them...
In my Acer 5315 there is Atheros AR5007EG wifi card.

    compare the cards:
    [IMG] [IMG]

so for $15 bid on ebay, I would try to switch to Intel... or go Atheros 5008 802.11n Wireless PCI-E Card
    [IMG]

    half-mini card is definitely a no-go

No, you misunderstood - I know that an Intel 5300 in general works with this machine, as I have upgraded quite a few 5720s with generic (Intel-branded) 5300 cards. However, the one I found on eBay now is an HP-branded card (the only Intel-branded ones currently sold on eBay are all half-size), and I am trying to find out if it reverse-checks the machine it is running on. (The 5720/5315 BIOS doesn't use a whitelist of allowed miniPCIE cards, but the card can still contain checks to ensure it is not installed into a non-HP machine.)

I have the 5315-2153, could you please help me thank you.
What is the thermal heat limit for the morthboard. Do I need to get bios for the T7500 if I install it. If so, can you drop a link for me to get the bios I need. What would be the right bios set for me then. would i put the bios on before or after I put the chip in?

I have T7300, and is working on Bios v1.45.
go to Acer support site for your country or region and look for BIOS update.
Flash the BIOS before CPU upgrade, just to be sure...

as far as thermal its a 35w tdp chip which is the same as a the stock one I think. Either way I don't notice any temp increases going from a dual core celeron.

i have a Acer Aspire 5315-2142 everything OEM

will i be able to turn this single core into a dual core with the T7300 2.0ghz Dual Core?

also i have an 2.4ghz dual core 3 MB cache 1066 FSB the SLB3S 479m cpu
from my cooked IMB T500 the board died but the CPU is still good, can i still use it or do i only use the 800mhz FSB chips?

and i thought the ram limit was 2gb? but i read people having 3?

can you go past the limit

Please Answer all if you can, and thank you for taking the time for helping me get some much needed info

T7300 should work, no problem. As long as the CPU is socket P it should work. BIOS update might be needed.
P8600 probably is going to work but even if it does the FSB will downclock to 800Mhz, it's a chipset limitation. Again, BIOS update might be needed.
The official RAM limit is 2GB however NBR members have discovered that the laptop can take 3GB in certain slot/stick combination.

nope didnt work, would turn on but would turn right back off, so the chip wasn't downclocking i guessing.

but i did get chance to change my thermal paste the other stuff crumbled like clay. and now i got new arctic silver 5

but i will get a CPU of ebay that i know works.

and if i do this, what kinda of performance improvements am i going to see? Just better Muti Tasking?

or should i just upgrade the ram to 2gb and its nice to know the 479m socket is the same as the 478mn

Back to my wireless card question - I was referring to the "Code 10: The device cannot start" error people have been reporting when putting HP/Lenovo-branded 5300 cards in Dell or Fujitsu machines. I'm asking if it affects Acers too.

BTW, a modded v1.45 BIOS with the hidden "Advanced" menu (including Intel VT, SATA hotplug, etc.) enabled can be found @ http://ifile.it/vwrkob4.

Has there been any sucess with the T9500 in 5315-2153. Do you need to do anything if there not embedded? Will the t9500 work with the 1.45 Bois? will it be ok if the processor die is different? These are the ones I've looked at

I believe T9500 is working fine in 5315, someone posted about a successful upgrade in this thread not so long ago.
X9000 should work, in theory. However I've never seen a confirmed successful upgrade to it. I wouldn't recommend installing this CPU due concerns about the cooling, I doubt 5315 cooling system can handle it.

No, BGA CPUs won't work(if that's what you mean by "embedded"), those a soldiered to the motherboard. And how can the processor DIE be different?

With the latest BIOS (specifically, the modded one I posted earlier; but the official 1.45 one may also work) and Windows 7, no reinstall is needed anymore when going from T2330 to T9300 - at least for my 5720, but 5315 should be the same. I don't know if it is something Microsoft fixed in Windows 7, or something that got fixed either in 1.45 or in the BIOS mod.

I have aspire 5315 (ICL50(?)) . I´m getting T5750 next week to replace original T1400. Which thermal paste do you recommend? Will there be any overheating issues? Does this computer support more memory than 2Gb?

I would like to confirm that the T6400 Core2Duo Works on the Acer Aspire 5315 ICL50. Only issue is that in XP/Win7 the fan runs a lot more. But I have not had any over-heating issues.
I don't know if anyone else has done this but I felt I could help a little by giving info about what I have.
    Acer Aspire 5315 ICL50
T6400 2.0 Ghz Dual. Upgraded from Celeron 550
    2GB Ram
Newest Bios. 1.45 if I remember correctly.

I have upgraded my acer aspire 5315 with these components: Intel Core Duo T7300 @ 2GHz, 4MB Cache, WebCam Crystal Eye ( You have to change also the flex cable between mainboard and LCD) 3GB RAM first is Samsung 1Gb and second is Nanya 2Gb Both are @ 667Mhz, Hdd Seagate Momentus 500Gb @ 16Mb Buffer, Bluetooth Motorola (PC850). I have opened the case from bluetooth stick and used that BT board in my lapop. If you open the laptop you will find in the right side only one usb port but there are two USB ports. One is solderd and the second isn't soldered but you can use it for bluetooth. So isn't very hard to solder 4 wires between BT board and that free usb port :) Near HDD you have a lot of space to insert this small BT board from PC850 stick. It will work very well. I tell you: Do not use the internal connector with 8 pins from mainboard wich is special for bluetooth BCM92045NMD because isn't soldered and you don't have power and data 3.3V + GND and USB -+. That port is disabled from manufacturer. So thats why i told you to use that free usb port for bluetooth because is free and the case isn't made with hole for inserting an usb device. I have also upgraded my Bios version. I have now V1.45. And for processor and Vga use MX-2 from www.arctic-cooling.com Thermal Paste. It is very good. You will reach 10 -15 oC. This is my Upgrade for my aspire 5315. Good luck in Upgrading.
