Aieet, cool. What about a 2g and 1g ram to add to the mix? I've searched, but dang, you ever eBay search ram? 64,000 hits, yeah....I'm lost. I'm runnin same as the OP, 5315-2153 and I'll be runnin the CPU I listed above and would like to optimize the ram to the CPU. Also, I read that they must be installed in the correct order....does the bigger one go on top of the little one, or vice versa? They're kinda stacked and staggered lookin in my laptop. Thanks again guys, this is sooo helpful.

why dont you try... maybe itll works. but that issue that may arise i think is theheating issue. kindly check the wattage of that cpu.. if its same or near your procie wattage maybe it works fine.

Can anyone suggest a 1gig and a 2gig ram cards to buy? And the configuration as to which goes where (like which one is on the bottom and which is on the top)

    Model Number 5315-2153
T8300 is in the mail, but without ram, I can't imagine it's gonna help all that much. Thanks.

    Hi guys...

I got a problem with my Aspire 5315.. I bought additional 1GB or RAM to add to my existing 1GB and when I add the damn thing in slot 2, the machine wont boot at all, not even into BIOS.. I tryed swapping slots without luck.. Allthough i can run with single 1gb module new aswell as the "old" one without problems, just not together... Why can this be..?

I bought the machine like 2 years ago, it came as

    Intel celeron 550 @2.ghz
    1GB samsung pc5300 ddr2 ram
    120gb hd
    etc...

Just out of curiosity will a "Celeron M 900" SLGLQ 2.2GHz 1MB(L2) 800MT/s (FSB) work in the Acer 5315 - if not can someone quickly explain to me why not.

Is the new RAM PC5300 aswell, is it ECC or non-ECC, and when you try the RAM alone is it in the same slot or different RAM slots to make sure its not a motherboard/hardware issue.

Im interested in upgrading my CPU and when looking up CPU benchmarks on "PassMark" the T6400 (2.0GHz/2MB/800FSB) outperforms the T7500 (2.2GHz/4MB/800FSB) why is this? Is it the 45nm vs 65nm tech, and how does this improve benchmark performance?

It may be benchmark related. If you take a look at the table of benchmarks on the notebookcheck website T7500 wins in 3DMark06, Cinebench- both single and multi, superPI, wPrime and in Dhrystone while losing only at Whetstone.
It looks more or less like the margin you would expect T7500 to beat T6400 considering cache and MHz difference.

Upgraded my 5315 to T8100 and 3 gigs ram. Passmark scores went from 338.8 to 486.9.

Haven't used this in several months and I think the battery is shot.

Try to recalibrate, maybe it's not completely dead. If it holds some charge it can be used as a UPS device ;)

Battery calibration is basically draining the battery to 0% then charging it again to the max charge it can hold. Some software shows the "battery wear"(for example if the battery can hold up to 45000mah when new but when calibrated holds 30000 it means it has 33% wear). Google for MobileMeter for example.
Check the BIOS there is usually calibration option there if not search for some free app to do it, I think I've seen some around the internet.

Hello, I'm pretty new to laptop hardware modding (got past experience with desktops) and need some help.

Just wanted to ask, would a 'Core 2 Duo T5450 - 1.67 GHz, 2 Mb, 667 MHz, P' be compatible with a Acer Aspire 5315? I'm sure I've read somewhere on this forum someone managed to do this, can't seem to find the post anymore however...

My BIOS version for my Acer Aspire 5315 is v1.42 so it's high enough as it is.

Any help is much appreciated, keep up the good work Bigo and NotebookReview users!

The CPU where I'll be buying from: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Intel-Core-2-...aptopMotherboards_CPUs_CA&hash=item2c582efba6

Another CPU I'm also looking at is this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/INTEL-CORE-2-...aptopMotherboards_CPUs_CA&hash=item27b6d55e26

If any experienced memeber can tell me if either one of them is compatible, that'd be great. Cheers!

Hello guys, im portuguese, and a noob with this "upgrading cpu" and speaking English :( lol.
i need some help me pls, i'm confused because i have a Acer Aspire 5315 - 101G12Mi Model
Laptop Specs but my grandmother walks faster than this celeron :X

    I want buy a Core2Duo T8100:
    CLOCK SPEED: 2.10 GHz
    L2 CACHE: 3 MB
    FSB SPEED: 800 MHz
    INSRUCTION SET: 64-bit
    DIE SIZE: 107 mm2
    SOCKETS SUPPORTED: SOCKET P
    COMPATIBLE CHIPSETS: INTEL GM965, PM965, GME965, PM45, GM45
    LITHOGRAPHY: 45 nm
    MAX TDP: 35 W

    or a T7500
Dont know the right specs of it because my friend its selling this one.
    but would be:

    CLOCK SPEED: 2.20 GHz
    L2 CACHE: 4 MB
    FSB SPEED: 800 MHz
    INSRUCTION SET: 64-bit
    DIE SIZE: 143 mm2
    SOCKETS SUPPORTED: SOCKET P
    COMPATIBLE CHIPSETS: INTEL GM965, PM965, GME965, PM45, GM45
    LITHOGRAPHY: 65 nm
    MAX TDP: 35 W

    T8100 is: LITHOGRAPHY: 45 nm
    T7500 is: LITHOGRAPHY: 65 nm

My CPU-Z program shows this: Tinypic Image

And the Specs of Laptop shows FSB frequency: 533Mhz. This CPUs have 800Mhz of FSB and T8100 its 45nm. :S this is like Chinese for me and i dont want burn my unique computer :\

I saw this topic, read some posts and i saw T8100 its compatible. just need "confirmation" of professionals xP

Thanks a lot and sorry for this big text :))

Both CPUs should work fine and I don't think you need to update your BIOS.
Again, both CPUs should work. I'd get the T8100, it will provide a little better battery life and less heat.

Nope, it's not a problem, the Aspire 5315 support 800Mhz FSB to the CPU will run at that frequency which means even better performance.

The T8100 is going for 80 bucks on ebay. The T8300 is going for 80-95 used. Do you think its worth it to upgrade again from the T5450?

you dont need anything and the best cpu is a t9500.

Also the t8300 is def worth it, the t8100 not so much, i got one of those for like 50$

    furthermore........
I successfully finished upgrading the motherboard in the 5315 last night/morning. now it has room for dedicated nvidia 9600m GT graphics :D

Hello everyone! I'm new here (so please be nice and hopefully no one will comment on me replying to a thread that hasn't been updated in a while). I have read a lot of this thread and am currently waiting for my T8300 CPU to come in. But I figured while I'm in the upgrading mood I'd add a built in webcam. My Aspire 5315 does not come with the built in webcam and I was wondering if I got a new cover (that has the hole for the webcam) and a replacement webcam if that would work or if there is something else that I need to do or if it won't work at all. Thanks :)

    Hi,

Looks like a driver issue to me.
Did you have the latest drivers? Especially the chipset ones?

What is the code of the BSOD, 0x0......?

    Hi guys.
Also new to the forum and very thankful for all the info in this thread.
Upgraded my 5315 to T7300, 3gb ram etc. Planning on doing the bt mod this weekend.
    Need some advice though:
When i power up the lappy the hdd light flickers the way it should when starting up.....but it stays on after the desktop has loaded. Anyone seen this??
I know for a fact the hdd is idle after complete startup but hdd led stays on (no flickering)
Also my power led is totally dead.
Any advice would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi,

Maybe you messed up some of the wiring during the upgrade maybe that's why your power button lid doesn't work
As for the HDD...what is your OS? Windows? Try to boot in Safe Mode, see if the problem persist.
By the way did you update your BIOS?

    Thanks for quick reply.
Have done all you just said. Had vista on and had same problem.
Upgraded to Win 7 3 weeks ago....same thing.
Didn't change any wiring as cpu swap is quick and no wires are loosened for the cpu upgrade. Bios at 1.14. Dont know if its entirely necessary to upgrade bios as i have no other problems.
Power led totally dead and hdd led always on after boot up and in bios even before cpu upgrade.
    Thanks

Just noticed something. AC plugged in .... hdd led works normally until windows has completely loaded, then it stays on. Battery only...hdd led always on.
Forgot to mention my battery is shot, so gonna try and re-calibrate 2nite and see tomorrow with ac only if power led works and hdd led switches off.
Could a faulty battery cause issues with the led's???
    Thanks again

Successfully added the built-in Crystal Eye Webcam (back cover, front bezel, webcam and new video cable for $42) and I have a T8300 processor in the mail (got it for $70). Looking at upgrading to 3GB of RAM so iTunes and Photoshop CS4 play nicer with my computer and getting a WD Scorpio Black 500GB HDD. A new keyboard, upgraded wi-fi card, added bluetooth and new bottom cover are all possible upgrades in the future.

Interesting tidbit, there's space on the Mobo for another mini PCI-E next to the wi-fi card. It's fairly easy to find mini PCI-E connectors and I was thinking of installing the connector and maybe getting a mini PCI-E SSD to boot from? Idk if anyone has done that before or if it'd even be possible on this setup but I'm going to look into it and if anyone wants to add their thoughts, please do!

Thanks a million for this incredible thread guys! Can't wait to get to all my upgrades.

Have you tried upgrading to the newest BIOS (mine is 1.45) I believe there was one BIOS update that did cause a lot of BSOD's. But that sounds more like a Windows driver problem like ATG said since Ubuntu is running fine.

Ya, Windows can be a pain to install (Vista, cough cough) and I just looked, on the Europe site it's at 1.43, on the US site it's at 1.45 Aspire 5315 Drivers If you can get Windows to boot without BSOD, you can flash the BIOS from inside Windows with that one. If not, then hopefully someone else can help.

i know how to flash my bios, that aint the problem,
my laptop in running fine again whith vista, and i dont have a good reason why i shoud risk a update to bios 1.45. after the BSOD's i had.

i cant give the error code, there is no option on XP to disable the reboot whith BSOD's?

not that reinstalling is such a pain in the ... ,
it just takes time, and a full day if you want all the updates/install programs.
luckely you can walk away when the installing/updating happens...

BTW; why is the acer europe site displaying to to 1.43 and the US site up to 1.45?

I had the same issue with 5315 after updating the BIOS to 1.45.
Just set HDD mode to IDE in BIOS settings then it should work fine without issues.
    Hope this helps!
I'm also thinking about a CPU upgrade, thanks for the guidelines!

If you already had multiboot before you flashed the BIOS then Ubuntu should work without any issues. In my case flashing the BIOS reset everything to BIOS defaults, I think the default was AHCI for SATA mode.
Hope I'm right and it helps you!

I upgraded my Aspire 5715z ( ICL50 ) and maybe the same as Aspire 5315 to a T4300 CPU. I bought it cheap off ebay but it's an Intel Qualification Sample ( QS or ES if you will ).
It all worked flawlessly with one exception, Windows 7 had problems from the beginning. I was able to trace this to the CPU C1 states and the driver Windows uses for the processor.
It caused all kinds of problems for me and disabling the C1 states from BIOS fixed it all. I used the enhanced BIOS to give me control of all the options.
Other than that it works perfectly and I'm sure it's the driver and Windows XP or Linux, maybe oven OS X would work just fine. I needed to install Win 7 though.

What OS is everyone using? It came with Vista Basic. I have since gone from that down to XP Pro, up to Windows 7 RTM, Windows 7 Home 32 to Windows 7 Ultimate 64 and it runs great. I have also ran various versions of Linux. I have a T5450 with 2GB RAM. Looking to go to a T8300 now that its cheap. Maybe even higher

@mforce2: With "enhanced BIOS", are you referring to my Advanced Menu Edition mod? There is a slightly updated version of it (now named "MXM Edition", but also applies to integrated-GPU 5x15/5720/7720s) in the x920g vs. 9600M GT thread.

I got the front bezel and webcam together on eBay and I had to do research to find the part number for the cable to support the webcam and got that off eBay as well.

The cable part number is DC02000DS00 for the interested.
