thanks... but the real credit goes to the users named who boldly took the chance and bought CPUs that were until now UNTESTED (as far as we know about anyway)
i can't wait till i can buy a T9300 cheap!!!!

t8100 at 1.1 volts 10x200
i cant use intel speed step this is laptop is going to be used for audio recording, mixing etc.
intel speedstep causes pops and clicks when the proccessor switches speeds.
been prime 95ing for about 1 hour now. seems stable at 1.1volts -
i understand that.... all those multiplier changes could really mess w/ multi track recordings... i believe RM clock can be used to force max speed... not sure i've never actually tried it that way around...
bigO -
Anyone want to part with their laptop's original CPU? I have a 5315-2153 with Celeron 530. Anything faster would help a bunch.
-
also check EBAY to see what current prices are... -
un fortunatly i can only set it too 2.10 ghz with inteli step on(then its idle speed is 6 multi 11x full speed)
oh well 2 ghz dual core is good enough for me atm,
is there anyway to change the fsb in RM clock ? -
RMclock has no contorl over the FSB of the CPU,,, there are a couple other programs that do have the ability to increase the FSB,, but in using the machine for recording especially... i would leave it's FSB alone you are not gonna be able to increase it very much,,, and by tweeking it you are inviting more little glitches into the mix IMO
bigO -
in the BIOS there is away of disabling the speed step so the C2D runs flat out. its in advanced chipset features or it may be called C1E Function and/or EIST Function.but not 100%
on that.
i also used a laptop for media and had the step pop in sound.
disabling speed step worked for me.
just a thought
Phil
EDIT: it may be called EISS that needs disabling -
increasing the FSB is referred to as overclocking, for which you need to know the PLL no. from the CPU clock generator chip on your motherboard and then increase the FSB via certain software which supports that PLL..!!
It is not for the faint at heart..Since it involves loads of BSODs in acquiring that right FSB speed which remains stable....
RMClock is mainly for PCs with OEM BIOS's which have very limited options, so you will be only able to play around with those few unlocked multipliers....!! -
T9500 CPU works in 5315,,,, but cooling seems to be an issue with VISTA atleast...
wish we knew forsure if this is due to the CPU being an engineering sample or due to temp sensors not being read correctly by the BIOS... such as was the problem with this laptop model when downgrading the OS to XP with old BIOS versions prior to ver 1.33
i'll keep updating as i get info -
-
The Vista event logs are absolutely clear, the services can't start because the cpu firmware doesn't support the facility (and 'contact manufacturer for firmware upgrade' - which made me smile!)
The vendor has also now confirmed that this chip doesn't support power management properly, shame he forgot to mention this, or that the chip was an ES, before I bought it.
-
well atleast you know now... and then vendor is willing to take the CPU back
thanks for the INFO.. -
I'm very angry with my 5315, which i bougth one month before... Now the LCD has issues with colors... distortion.... screen freezes... in the BIOS, not only in windows... i don't know if is problem with v1.40 BIOS...
-
i doubt its a BIOS issue...
sounds like a problem with the LCD or the intergrated video on the MotherBoard
flash you BIOS back to ver 1.33 that version is as stable as any i've seen...
if the problem still presists then it's not BIOS...
i have a feeling that your laptop may need to so see the ACER repair people -
-
Yes, it appears to be a defective Screen, but i will flash v1.33... to see if that fix the problem... This laptop comes with v1.29 and i upgraded to 1.4, 2 weeks before... I don't remember having this issue in the first 2 weeks (with v1.29), and the problem starts (when? i don't remember exactly if after or before v1.4 flash) showing one horizontal line in the screen (in random positions and rarely), but today shows extrange colors inside BIOS (not intel driver issue) and Windows... Anyway, I'll try flashing v1.33...
Also, i have a Compaq V2000 series, with LCD problems... but the problem was the flex cable (when i open/close the lap shows strange colors or black screen) .. I repaired myselfof course because that machine is out of warranty...
-
... Ironically i sit down above my v2000 1 year before and LCD is OK
-
Hmm....Then downgrade to the last BIOS version and reinstall the display drivers properly....
-
-
It seems IGP/LCD problem..I doubt it's a driver.

has anyone else tried to see if 4gbs ram works ok with bbios v1.40? if not will 3gb work 1gb and 2gb together? thanx
-
4gig seems to be causing BSOD errors...
i have not gotten a firm answer on 3gigs of ram...
still waiting to hear about that..... -
CPUz is saying that the memory is running in dual channel mode, but the windows experience for the memory has dropped from 5.1 to 4.8, which were the numbers when running with 2x1Gb and 1x2Gb respectively (Kingston HyperX 4-4-4-12).
On reflection, the BSODs I saw with 2x2Gb tended to report pci.sys as the offending driver. I'm guessing that the problem is probably caused by device address conflicts in the 3-4Gb memory space. (ie hardware devices need memory addresses so that they can be addressed by the software - that's why 32 bit Windows will tell you that you only have 3200Mb-ish of memory available if you have a 768Mb graphics card, the graphics card's memory is mapped into the top end of the available 4Gb of address space)
Maybe the address allocation parts of the Acer BIOS need a tweak - my son's Dell Inspiron 6400 boots happily with 4Gb installed - it just blocks access to the top 1Gb! This is much better than BSODs though.
-
A quick update, my previous post is only true if the 1Gb DIMM is in the lower slot and the 2Gb DIMM the upper slot! Otherwise BSODs as before.
I'm off to try running some test software to exercise the memory, inside windows and directly...... -
thanx for the update, even getting it to use 3gb's would seriously extend the use of this laptop for future generations of windows. please keep us informed of your progress. thanx
-
have u tried bios 1.4? its seems to mention sumthing about using 4gb's in its txt file i think?
-
Hello, i have a 5315 too but my socket is grey :S
In my processor i can see :
Code:LF80537 550 7749A565 SLA2E 2.00 / 1M / 533 INTEL (m)(c) 06
Thanks
(sorry for my bad english, i'm french) -
see the CPU GUIDES in POST #1
you can use ANY STANDARD VOLTAGE SOCKET P CPU
i'd consider a T8100 or T9300
depending on what you want to spend..
or you can always do like i did and buy a USED cpu off ebay...
but stay away from anything labled as an ENGINEERING SAMPLE or ES version
socket color is not an issue.... that was an error i made when trying to install a SOCKET M cpu..
look thru the CPU GUIDES at SOCKET P cpus...
there are a bunch of them...
T5500 is a socket M and will not work in a 5315....
T5550 is SOCKET P and will work -
If it's a Celeron 520 (1.6 Ghz) is Socket M
Celeron 540 (1.87 Ghz) and 550 (2 Ghz) are Socket P
The exception is Cel 530 (1.73 ghz), may be Socket M or P, in that case you should check your socket...
PD I don't flashed to v1.33... it's running fine for now in the last 6 hours, but i'm burning my info in DVD's to return my laptop to the store tomorrow... of course restoring the f...ing Win Vista before... -
CPUz could let you know which socket you have..
-
Except for Celeron 1.73 Ghz...
-
4gigs for XP/Vista 32 is useless, with or without that BSOD, remember Win32 can only use around 3.2gigs, so it's a waste of memory, i think is better in any case to have 2+1 GB, THE ONLY EXCEPTION MAY BE DUAL CHANNEL OR WIN X64... So, why not try the 4gigs, but with x64???
Also searching related problems with PCI.SYS shows bad memory modules (of course in this case 99% probably incompatibility of motherboard or BIOS)... -
it's a SOCKET P cpu... all 5315's are based on the i960/ i965 chipset which olny supports SOCKET P cpus...
BTW i had the celeron m 530 @ 1.73... that's how i got confused but my laptop is running a T5450 now... and it has the grey socket
my mom has the same laptop bought the same time... same store... different CPU socket color... but both are socket P
BTW.... both socket M & P cpus use the 479 socket.... but with different holes blocked out on the socket. -
!
On my 5315, 3Gb of RAM seems to be stable (running a single core Prime95 and OCCT at the same time, 100%cpu, 98% memory usage). I have reverted my cpu to a T5550 for the memory testing so that I have a clean, system event error free Vista boot. (I'll post later on fun I've been having with the cpus)
Memtest-86 v3.2 from a boot cd runs clean as well.
It is critical that the 1Gb chip is in the lower (physically) memory slot or Vista won't boot because of BSODs, especially pci.sys.
The system has BIOS 1.42 and is running Vista Home Premium patched to SP1.
All of the memory chips used were 667 Kingston HyperX 4-4-4-12.
It would be nice if someone could try the same memory configuration on another 5315 to corroborate my experience.
I can't help thinking that the memory mapping logic in the BIOS must be slightly flakey for this to work in the way that it does, but lets be thankful for small mercies! -
Some info follows on the cpus I've been trying in my 5135.
Most significantly - I have serious concerns about the ability of the BIOS (I'm using 1.42) to pass the correct power management info to the OS so that temperature regulation can be properly managed on the latest cpus.
I started by upgrading my 5135 to a sweet, cool and quiet T5550. The upgrade couldn't have been easier and when soak tested the cpu went up to 60C and stayed there, with no thermal throttling of the processor (as reported by I8kfan v3.1). No error messages in the Vista system event log.
I'll not go into full details on my ES T9500 as I've covered that elsewhere, but in summary the cpu runs flat out and completely stable with I8kfan v3.1 correctly managing the fan control, making up for the missing logic in the B1 revision of cpu firmware. The Vista system event log reported that the thermal management services could not load due to a cpu firmware problem. The vendor belatedly confirmed that this cpu's firmare didn't have the thermal control logic so the event log error messages (one for each processor) made sense.
I next tried a retail sourced T9300, on the basis that it would have the final C0 firmware, and PC Wizard confirmed that all of the features are present on the cpu. However they do not seem to be passed to the OS correctly (a BIOS problem?) with the result that again the Vista thermal management services fail to load, again reporting a firmware problem. The very bad news though, is that I8kfan is unable to manage the fan speed for this processor with the result that under load it overheats very quickly and shuts down. I8kfan reports temperatures rising rapidly to 90C with some evidence of thermal throttling, but not enough to prevent a thermal shutdown (system crashes with black screen)
So, is there anyone out there running the T8300 cpu in a 5135? and if so are your thermal management services loading correctly in Vista (or even XP)?
(Load testing is being done with a combination of Prime95 and OCCT, very extreme usage for a laptop but a good confidence check) -
zedoctor has a T8100 installed
ric ayr has a T8300 installed
neither reported any problems with over heating......
as for the T9XXX cpus... acer has yet to sell a ACADIA based system w/ anything higher than a T8300... so i am sure the heat issues you encountered are due to lack of BIOS support from acer -
So, for now, T8300 and 3gigs RAM is the maximum upgrade for 5315...
That's not so bad
I hope with future BIOS versions support for T9xxx series and 4gigs RAM, but for now support for the 3 MB Penryn is fine
-
got sick of vista... installing winxp
has the 1.42 firmware fixed tempreture reading issues ? -
-
heat temps are correct
no cold boot issues
no sound stuttering
later,
bigO -
Hi!
The v1.42 BIOS is not official? Acer page only show me up to v1.40...
About my problem with LCD: only one day i had that issues, not more... But today, i tried restore the f...ing Vista Starter that cames with my laptop for purpose of the warranty (yes, the stupid Starter Version only is for emerging markets... it allow me open only 3 programs
)...
But what i discovered is:
When i push Ctrl+Alt+DEL in Acer Logo Screen, the System Shut Down! Not reset... And not only that, The Acer Logo has dissapeared from System Startup, only showing the "Preparing to boot the OS" in the Screen, in a very very black Screen... I tried changing BIOS Options, Enable/Disable QuickBoot, Restore Defaults, but nothing helps...
For now, i downgraded to v1.33 and Acer logo returns, i think is very strange the disappearance of Acer Logo and the issue of CTRL+ALT+DEL=Shutdown too... -
yeah, I cant seem to find 1.42 anywhere. BigO -- source it up please
-
did ya find the file you were looking for??
-
Please someone put up a link for the 1.42 BIOS, can't find it anywhere.
-
My laptop seem to be more stable with 1.33 than 1.40
, without the strange problems i had before...
But, I'll try 1.42 tomorrow
But i want to recommend this machine, i'm very happy from chosing it and not the HP Compaq V3000 Series, which is a f...ing model (i can't talk the same about the older V2000)... 4 friends of mine had those with burned motherboards, my V2000 is still alive
Avoid those V3000 laptops... They're very, very hot when turned more than half hour... Don't know if it's HP or AMD fault... But this Acer/Celeron is very very cold for me... (and remember Celeron is the hotest Intel CPU today, because don't have SpeedStep tech...)
My second problem with the 5315 is the Matsushiita UJ870 Drive, which doesn't recognizes some blank CD's... whereas Matsushiita UJ840 of Compaq V2000 can burn it... I swapped the drives and my problem is gone, for now... Of course, that drive is one and half year old, but i don't have problems with that older drive... -
-
UJ870 doesn't have problems with the tree DVD brands, but only burns the Sony CD's... when I instert Phillips CD the drive spin up, and stops in around 5 or 10 seconds... Nero shows "Accessing the drive" message forever...
I searched over Internet and more people have problems with that Matshiita drive, mostly of them Acers and Sony Vaios...
Contact with Acer tell me don't have firmware update... And i don't find firmware elsewhere.... -
Matshiita drives have very poor firmware support..Try to use only good cd/dvd media.. Sony, Verbatim, TDK..
