Now you see that's your opinion and I got mine !

My 5315 has ram, wifi and processor sockets. )

I could link to a lot of sites and articles to support my opinion, but what for, I'm right and noone
can change my mind about it ! So you might as well put your cpu socket hole burning thumb tack
    hands away !

    LMAO...

sockets have individual holes for each lead, trace, or pin... slots have one big "SLOT" with many contacts for each contact point all in that one common slot...

i don't see how you can dispute that ;)

This doesn't proof anything. I bet at least half of the sites use slot/socket definition in a way they SEE it(just like we are doing it) and no in a technical undesputable way.. :)

Btw I'm with BigO on this...you have mini pci slots and ram slots ;) :D

there has been some discussion about the new 1.42 bios. I tried it, and now am back to 1.33. I have problems with the new bios and my atheros wlan and broadcom lan adapters.....it seems the computer will not recognize them. After uninstalling and reinstalling the adapters, the problem seems fixed, until my next boot, then the problems return. Could be vista driver issues with the bios..?? back to 1.33 and stuttery audio for me for now. (I had the same problems with 1.40..) :(

the stuttering sound seems to be very random.... some people never experience it....

you can always revert back to an older BIOS if you have problems with any particular version,, check the site link below to see what versions are available

the following is a quote from an ACER SITE that is not public

so don't hold your breath... you will not find it....

try this site ACER EURO SUPPORT

i would try version 1.42 if it doesn't perform as needed you can always revert back to an older version.

BTW how did you hear of ver 1.35?? and what features does it have that you are in need of?? i'm just curious and hoping to learn something.

I am a qualified TV Tech with 18 years experience bigozone.....programming EEPROMS is now part of our days work too.....plenty failures with ATMEL. They had a crappy bunch that was released. A dead EEPROM gives you a dead set. ST and others are still fine years later.

I am very wary of the new TV's on the market now. Very small chassis and both the Jungle and Micro are SMD. It is a mission to remove a 64 pin SMD Jungle IC because your line drive pulse is missing....

    Good to discuss technical stuff.

    Talk to me!!!

My laptop came with this version(1.35).Today I upgraded to version 1.42 and everything works fine. But I'm not quite satisfied with it.Maybe I'm just paranoid, who knows?Downgrading to v.1.34 would have undesirable effects? Is it
good?Is is advisable?I'll still keep an eye on the net.Maybe I'll find v.1.35.

    tried to PM you... ;)

it's been a few years since i did any real tech stuff and i really miss it....

anyway i need a Cap to replace the one in the attached pic...
and my only local source is RADIO-SHACK (what a joke)

any tips on where i might find one of these cheap online w/o paying a minimum order fee or

could you tell me the ACTUAL name of this type of capacitor... the only thing in this mircofarred and voltage that my radio-shack carries are the non-polarized caps used to block or filter speaker frequencies...

and without knowing what to ask for or order i'm kinda stuck

it came out of my HOME SECURITY MONITOR.... it died after 5yrs of use... and i replaced it w/ the non-polarized RadioShack part... it worked for a week or so before it went out...

the cap was a vertical hold filter or something like that... as you can tell i'm no TV REPAIR tech... i'm a PC hardware person... where we just toss entire boards instead of replacing components

good luck finding 1.35... they don't even have it for download at ACER's "service partner" website.... so if they don't trust it enough to post on thier site.... there is no way it's gonna be in the public support sites

what do you dislike about 1.42?? if i were downgrading,, i'd go to 1.34.... and if you experience ACTUAL problems then go to 1.33

    that's what i would do....

Your only hope is to get 1.35 from another person's backup. Apparently v1.35 has been released for OEMs(weird, this was supposed to be a test release) and ONLY for OEMs..trust me from v1.33 till now we're monitoring ACER's web sites for a BIOS release pretty much every day...
And I want to know what you dislike in v1.42 too...It's the best BIOS ACER ever made so far..

Simple BigO...take 2 normal electrolytic caps rated at 10uF 50V and connect their negative poles together. The two positives poles form a bipolar cap rated at 5uF (which I am sure is close enough for your application).

Maybe it's just my imagination, but the laptop seems to boot a little slower.I know it is stupid and I may be,after all, paranoid :),but if i won't find my original BIOS I'll have to give this one a chance, see how it works.I also was a bit preoccupied because a laptop isn't a desktop and damaging it by upgrading the BIOS would mean me loosing my mobility at work-something that's not desirable.Plus I know how expensive a laptop is to fix.

if you do not have any REAL problems leave BIOS ver. 1.42 on the machine...

if you want a FAST laptop.. UPGRADE YOUR CPU and consider installing XP... see the first post in this thread....

1.42 is by far the BEST bios ACER has put out for the 5315.... ALL OTHER VERSIONS HAD SOME KIND OF REAL ISSUES... if a slow boot is your only complaint... add some RAM... UPGRADE to XP... and consider a $50 used T5250 CPU.

i will agree that 1.42 does take maybe 5 seconds longer to finish the POST and begin booting... but that 5 seconds is nothing compaired to some of the other problems with older BIOS versions.... do a search for aspire 5315 BIOS problem in the NBR search below and see what problems you could run into

so my advice is to just USE IT LIKE IT IS FOR AWHILE AND READ ALL THE INFO YOU CAN FIND ON YOUR LAPTOP

use the NBR search or search google..

bigo are you using 1.42 bios?

btw, is t7100 compatible with 5315 and is $90 cheap if i want to buy it?
I checked the processor guide and I think it's compatible. just wanna make sure though.... :p

yes the T7100 is compatible... you may want to look at the T7300 since it doubles the ammount of L2 cache from 2megs of the 7100 upto 4megs for the T7300

but the T7100 is a decent choice and a better CPU than i am running
back in April when i upgraded the T5450 was about $100 on ebay.. but i found an NBR member who sold me his old T5450 for $50...

the T7100 should work fine... and after checking EBAY the T7300 is $159 for the cheapest BUY IT NOW...

so i'd stick w/ that T7100 for $90... a good deal... i found one on EBAY for $79. plus $13 shipping..
    ebay T7100

EDIT:: yes i've been using VER 1.42 since i found out about it.... (3 weeks i've been running it w/ XP)

you should be able to find an EBAY seller willing to ship to canada for a REASONABLE price...

but hoggie may come thru with some good links,,, but i think he is talking about resellers who may only have the RETAIL versions of CPUs for sale...

your best bet may be to START a thread in the BUY SELL TRADE forum

either that or just start reading all the CPU upgrade threads and PM people who are upgrading and see if anyone is selling thier old CPU...

just check the ULTIMATE CPU GUIDE thread.... and make sure you are buying a SOCKET P cpu that is a T8300 or lower (T5250 is the first CORE 2 DUO socket P)

and feel free to post here w/ questions or PM me if need be

    later,

just found out the T5300 is discontinued. Intel don't sell/make it any more.
the full list of discontinued CPU's is coming out on the 21st of this month.
lets see what chips are going to cost less or get rare. :(

when i try to buy something at e-bay should I contact the seller first and pay the item or just pay for it without letting them know???
sounds like a stupid question doesn't it?
I really need to know the answer though cuz to be honest i am really nervous about buying stuff in e-bay...

don't hesitate to EMAIL the seller with any questions or conserns you have, they are trying to sell something and you may get an idea of the kind of service you can expect by the tone of the responses and the speed with which you get replies... but i recommend checking the sellers info....

i always look for sellers with EXCELLENT FEEDBACK 99% or higher.. and the MUST have a LONG HISTORY as an EBAY MEMBER.... POWER-SELLERs are IDEAL.. but the item you need may not be available from a POWER-SELLER at the time you need it!!!

if you are going to purchase something thru the BUY IT NOW option,,, it's fine to contact the SELLER FIRST... but the item is not technically sold until you have met the seller's criteria for PAYMENT.... usually PAYPAL...
so you may want to email the seller informing him of your intentions... but until you actually click the BUY IT NOW button and then follow the LINK to PAYPAL and actually transfer funds to the seller.. it item is still for sale to others..

i have bought MANY things from EBAY... and only once had a problem,,, and thankfully PAYPAL was able to RECOVER the ENTIRE ammount of the transaction,, so i was not out any cash... just inconvienced for awhile...

EBAY is a large entity as is PAYPAL... and they do a decent job of trying to prevent scammmers from ripping people off... and while an online auction will never be as secure as dealing with an actual retailer,, the benifit of lower prices has always brought me back when purchasing USED CPUS for upgrades... i've orederd 7 laptop CPUs and recieved 6 in perfect working order,, the 7th was the one seller who's account got suspended by EBAY the same night i won an auction... and being me,, i had already rushed to pay for the CPU in hopes of having it shipped ASAP.. but PAYPAL was able to credit my CC back the cash....

does CANADA allow TAXES on internet sales?? i'm used to the US where internet sales are TAX EXEMPT...

$88 may be just a tad expensive... but i guess it's kinda hard to find a good seller in canada or who will ship to canada with-out charging you extra!

    i sent you a PM

The vendor is unfortunately a Canadian store which based in Pickering, Ontario and by-law they have to charge 13% sales tax in Ontario and 8% the rest of Canada AND no sales tax to US(the world has really gone mad :D . I think the price is okay for me because I'm gonna have to pay the same price if i buy from the US.

if using AS5 you need to clean the processor and the heatsink where the FACTORY paste was at...

i just reused the factory paste and have NO HEAT issues at all...

    i highly recommend a DE-MAGNATIZED scewdriver,, although i don't always practice what i preach :D
