AS5 is a great product... but with a T5450 you will have no real need for it..

i'm using the FACTORY heat paste... it's like silly-putty and very inefficent, but the T5450 is not going to generate much heat at all.... nothing like the CELERON's heat.

i do recommend using a dab of isopropal alcohol on a cotton cloth to clean the surface of CPU DIE (the black shiney part) on the T5450 before putting the paste on it

then just remove the paste from the celeron and the heatsink and then palce it on the new CPU.. and reinstall the heatsink.

AS5 is nice.. but not needed for your CPU.

is there any tool needed to remove and place the paste??
where can I get one of the isopropal alcohol?
sorry if I have so many questions but I am really- really new to this kinds of things
did you mean isopropyl by isopropal

i just used a credit card to scrape the paste off the old CPU and the HEATSINK...

and yes i mean isopropyl... the 70% cheap stuff should work fine...
if you were putting AS5 on then you might consider thier cleaning kit or buying the 95% (190 proof) iso.... you can get it at the drug store BEHIND THE COUNTER.. you gotta ask for the good stuff :D

    http://www.arcticsilver.com/index.html

it's a highly rated thermal transfer medium... not quite paste.. often called grease.... due to it's consistancy

STAY AWAY FROM THE CERAMIQUE.. nasty to work w/ and not as good for laptop CPUs

but like i have stated... you won't need it... that's just an extra $10 you can save since the T5450 is not a very hot CPU...

    what is your current CPU??

    download THIS

run it... and on the third line down... PACKAGE STYLE let me know what it says

it should be either SOCKET P or SOCKET M..... we hope it's a SOCKET P

if it is a P then you can use the T5550 or even higher if you wanted to!

You sure it says that - try out PC Wizard and Everest, or check out the documentation..!! I am pretty sure that I have seen this model with a celeron m 550....and the 4310 had i945gm..!!

actually that is a generic term for the 479 pin socket used by both M & P

to be for sure i want him to run the intel chipset id tool

but from what i've found it is most likely a socketP... i can't find any 4315's w/ a socket M

(when i first upgraded i thought that m479 ment socket M... so i ordered a T5300 and a T5600.... and they would not physically fit in the socket..)

if the intel chipset id tool reports that he has an i960 then we know it's socket P

however if the id tool says i940, i943, or i945 then it MUST be a socket M

you are GOLDEN... you can upgrade all the way to a T7700 if you want...
    and maybe higher...

let me check your BIOS info from the ACER site to see what CPUs it supports that way we know how high you can go

    http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/as_4315.html

newer OFFICIAL bios for ACER 4315...

i also found 1.15 bios but it has not been released to the public yet...

i know for a fact that a T5550 will work in your PC... but i'm still looking for info on how high the CPU support goes for your BIOS

    what color is the SOCKET??

have you taken the heat sink off the CPU??

if so what is the eSpec #
    Celeron M 530 SL9VA is a socket M
    Celeron M 530 SLA2G is a socket P

so you can check it for sure by removing the heatsink

BUT I CAN FIND NO 4315's that SHIPPED with a SOCKET M motherboard
and the fact that your chipset is a i965 tells me it HAS TO BE SOCKET P

so a T5550 will drop in and work...

mPGA i believe stands for MICRO PIN GRID ARRAY

any CPU with an eSpec beginning in SLA is socket P
while a CPU w/ an eSpec beginning in SL9 is socket M

so you have a socket P

the T5550 will work fine for you!

you know it is.... and damn straight she is!!! i love that woman!

spenaroo, i have no clue about BF2.... but i can tell you that with VISTA your chances are less likely than if you are running XP....

but i doubt you'll get the kind of Frames Per Second you are looking for with either OS

and NO LAPTOP with INTERGRATED VIDEO is able to have it's VIDEO upgraded,, only laptops that have SEPERATE DESCREETE CARDS which can be replaced have even a remove chance of being UPGRADEABLE .....

sorry i can't be more help

insert it in the SOCKET FIRST... then

just use a little alcohol (isopropyl) on a cotton cloth to wipe it off..

do not drench the cloth... just enough to make it damp

then scrape old paste off CELERON and HEATSINK... and place paste on black center of CPU

then re assemble everything and reboot

yes clean the new one AFTER PUTTING IT IN THE SOCKET

that protects the PINs from getting bent.....

just dampen the corner of a cloth and wipe the paste off the new one..
then scrape old paste off CELERON and HEATSINK... and place paste on black center of CPU

then re assemble everything and reboot
