It's not great. If there's one thing I could change, it would be the responsiveness of the spacebar. Tapping it on the sides sometimes doesn't work and I had to shift my left hand towards the middle of the keyboard so that I could make full contact with the spacebar.

    Doubt there's a fix though.

Pretty good I guess. The right side is a little less stiff but I didn't even notice it until testing it after reading your post. There's good tactile response even when gently pressing on the right or left side. As soon as you feel that tactile response, it does a space. The keyboard really is a joy to type on. This is my first chicet keyboard and I thought I would hate it but I really do like it.

yeah. it was totally easy. I just let NV Experience do its job and it worked flawlessly.

btw: I love my new machine. if they had added status-LEDs for capslock etc., it would be absolutly perfect for me. great NB, though.

well, the GTX860M is okay for gaming in FullHD at the moment. but even now there are games, where the 860M reaches its limits. 4K means four times the pixel, so gaming with full details? sorry, that won't do, except for older games. and those will probably have trouble with the high resolution (UI to small, ...).

You have incredible discount on Newegg since yesterday for V15 Nitro Black Edition 4K (its 1199$ from 1499$) and all other models. Good thing that I waited until yesterday with decision and I ordered V17 Nitro Black Edition VN7-791G-73AW for just 1130$ (It was 1399$)! When it arrives, it comes full review :).

    @islamtahoun

This is a very bad idea. No offense meant to anyone but this thread has attracted mostly new users, so no one is a known quantity to either you guys or me for example.
Sending close to $1000 to a person you don't know and who is literally an ocean away may get you scammed.

Again - sorry if I offended anyone - I'm not suggesting any of you guys is a scammer but as a moderator I've had an inside look at some scams that have happened here in the past and what you're planning islamtahoun is a very bad idea.

I'm not deleting your post as ultimately it's your money and your call but I cannot stress enough how bad idea is it.

How does the Acer V15 Nitro compare to the Lenovo Y50? Spec wise, they seem to be very similar but would like someone's opinion on the difference in screen quality, temp and keyboard/trackpad. I hear that the wifi isn't that great and the connection drops on the V15. Is that true?

Wi-Fi isn't that great and it causes issues for quite a few people (go for version with 802.11ac card if you can - that shoudl solve it). That said Wi-Fi is not troublesome for everyone and even if you happen to be one to suffer from issues, replacing a Wi-Fi card is cheap and easy enough.

The same can't be said about the screen though - replacing it is neither cheap nor easy. Luckily Acer's screen is better than the one in Lenovo Y50. There were few complaints about the brightness of the screen Acer used but on the other hand there were only a few people who didn't complain about the screen used by Lenovo (both Full HD screens in fact - one is really bad, the other one just bad).

Overall it seems like an Acer is a better choice.

Can you help me find out what wireless card came with my model? I just got the V17-791-71P5.
I'm not from USA and the laptop will arrive to my cousins house on Miami, and she doesn't really know much about computers to open the case or something.

That's for you to decide when you get it. Personally, I underclocked and undervolted my cpu (because no games I've played yet need 2.5+ ghz clock speeds) and playing games like Arma 3 capped at 59 fps the heat is not an issue, neither is fan noise as the fans either spin at the slowest setting or turn completely off even playing Arma 3.

I've tried Logitech H800 headphones and the brief time I was testing bluetooth playing CS:GO there was no noticeable delay. I think it has more to do with the quality of headphones.

I tried the generic Synaptics drivers from their website and it wouldn't let me install them. It's a shame, I'd really like the synaptics control panel just to automatically turn off the touchpad when I plug in a mouse. :p

do you think there will be some people to work and create a Bios mod, which will enable overclocking the GPU and change the vCore ?

I have used Logitech Freepulse and Plantronics Backbeat GO2 without any issues.

I installed the Synaptics drivers, you have to reboot into non-driver signature enforcing mode. The driver installed fine. However, the synaptics control panel still isn't there...

I just got mine yesterday and don't have any issues with the spacebar. The touchpad on the other hand is a little iffy though. Two finger scrolling requires a little more pressure then normal touchpads and the right mouse click does not always register. Other than that I love this thing so far!

I'm from outside USA, and I'm getting this laptop shipped to my cousins house on Florida (it's already in transit) and then she will come to my country on January.
I would like to make some tests on it while she's on Florida before she comes here, just to check for defective parts, etc.
What do you guys think I should be looking for?
    Already have some thoughts.
    - Touchpad (moving, scrolling, gesture)
    - keyboard flaws. (I already know about the space bar, so got to live with it)
    - Screen brightness and dead pixels, lightbleed.
    - WiFi stability and speed.
    - Heat while load.
    - Battery life on a standard day of usage.

We will be doing this on shared screen on Skype while she uses it.

What else do you guys think I should be doing? Because once she's out of USA there is no rma or warranty left.

Doesn't make much sense the 17 inch version gets it but not the 15 inch. Maybe Acer are working on adding it for us too.

Yeah cool boost should be a software thing. Not hardware. It only speed up the fan.
Why there is no cool boost on 15 inch ?

And so, will you repaste the CPU/GPU with thermal paste ? The CPU goes about 96°C with gaming and stress test and throttle.
I hope there will be a tutorial soon for the repaste.

I would like to. Usually the factory thermal paste is cheap. I don't think it is too much different from other repastes I've made. The disassembly tutorial it's already online. From there to CPU I think it would be easy.

Hi, I am interested in buying the version with i5 CPU, GTX 860m,8 GB ram and 8GB ssd, but i am afraid of temperatures and wifi. I know, the temperature should be better with i5 than i7, so that is not the biggest issue for me, but i need this notebook to be working for at least 5-6 years, so i am asking about temperatures because of laptop's lifespan.

Second problem, which I am afraid of, is Wifi. I read a lot of experiences and some people say, that their wifi problem was solved by driver updates, but someone say, that nothing helps and must return the notebook.

I am almost decided to buy this notebook, but what do you think ? Can temperatures of i5 affect lifespan or performance and are the wifi issues still the problem, or can it be easily solved by driver updates?

I was in your same ship.
Was between this one, and the msi ge60 Apache pro.
First, this is not the hottest one. The msi is really hot. And not even repasting did great job.
You have to realize that gaming thin notebooks are gonna have alarming temperatures. We are not talking about an alienware or a bulky rog. The only one with excellent cooling in a sleek factor is the razer blade, but you have to pay a lot for that. The 17" btw, has better cooling.
In this price range, 90~C is the best that you can get.
Get real good thermal paste and good cooling pads.

The WiFi issue is easier to fix, some people did it with driver update, other with just replacing the WiFi card ($30~ on Amazon) and the ultimate solution by Acer was to start using better WiFi cards (which seems to be the case on newer models)

In my opinion, for the price, you get a very nice ips screen, decent graphics and sleek design. Sure there are other options (even cheaper), but it depends on your priorities.
For me, I decided to live with the constant repasting and the cooler, because I needed that sleek design for client meetings, and the matte ips.

    Hi.

I'm gonna do something like this DIY laptop cooler.

    110CFM Laptop Cooler
    03.jpg
I know that laptop cooler can only minus the degre by 5-6 degrees.
It's not enough that's why I think with this type of laptops cooler homemade I could minus by 10-15 degree in charge which could drop the CPU from 96C to 80C.

But the acer V nitro is not the same in term of fan's position.
I will put a flexible PVC down the computer with one fan to push air on it.
And maybe 2 other on the back to push out the air.

And in summer I would put some ice near the fan but I'm afraid of oxidation. So I'll think about it after.

Just received this 15 inch version today, and initial impressions are great overall...screen is bright and crisp, laptop runs quiet (haven't checked how loud it is with games yet), build quality is great...I do wish the keyboard back lighting was brighter though...touchpad is also not the greatest, but maybe I just need to break it in :)

Windows 8 also sucks :( does anyone know which drivers I need to install windows 7, and where I can download them from? The one's on the Acer website are for Windows 8...will those same ones work for Windows 7 too?
