Hey guys, can you help me decide which 256GB SSD M.2 i should buy?

And, how much should i spend?

I'm thinking to purchase a Crucial MX200 at around 120€.

    Is it good?

Yesterday , I saw that when I am pressing Fn+ any function button(like volume, brightness changing) nothing happens. Everything was working fine before, I didn't change any options(at least not intentionally). Now these buttons just work like they are working without combination with Fn button.

Make sure Launch Manager is working correctly and running. Reinstall if needed.

As I mentioned before reinstalling didn't help. I have these processes running:

Is there anything missing? Maybe the Fn button itself isn't working? How can I check that?

So my cousin received the laptop and he's yet to turn it on.

    The model:
Acer Aspire V15 Nitro BE VN7-591G-70RT

Can you guys share your thoughts on what initial checks to run (apart from the very basic checking of specs and hardware) so that I can be at peace that comes with the guidance of the wise and experienced...

    Hey guys,

I got the problem with the spacebar....
So as it seemed that it was standars scissors switch, I carried out an investigation on my spacebar.

    Here are two pics :

So there actually 3 contacts under the spacebar.but only one (the central one) is used.

What the hell is there two switches that are basically useless!!!

I checked on another laptop keyboard from a dell inspiron 9400, and there is actually one switch, one contact for the spacebar as well...but the key is working properly. I guess its because the spacebar key is a lot more stiff.

So what I tried is taking two rubber dome frome the dell keyboard (laptop is retired, and those key was not functionni ng...) adn placed them under the two switches from the V15 nitro.
So now instead of one central contact , i have 3 contacts working to input a space. The spacebar is now working better (even if not perfect).
But the rubber dome I took , are a bit taller than the one in the middle, so my spacebar sits a bit higher than the rest of the keyboard....
Need to find a better fit...or a way to make the spacebar edges more stiff...
    Any ideas?

Hello guys, I am coming to the club as well with the new Core i5-5200U CPU and nvidia 950M GPU internal. Very good price for what it offers, like the idea of SSD+HDD option without remowing the ODD. Hope it will be quiet and cool running, but if it takes the full voltage 45W CPUs too, than a 15W definiately have to run cool.
I am going to upgrade with samsung m2 SSD and with coolaboratory thermal paste, is anybody made tutorial how to take it aparts?

Hi, sorry form my english but I'm italian, so if I did mistakes, correct me.
Last Thursday the courier handed me the new Acer v nitro 591g, but on Saturday I had a problem, in fact unfortunately I tried to power on my notebook but win 8.1 did not want to load itself so the only thing I could see was on the screen was black and the cursor of my mouse.
So, after that I decided to enter in recovery mode ( I do not know the correct name in English ) and I made a factory reset.
Now the problem seem to be fixed, but now and also before the factory reset, the program Acer recovery management does not work properly, indeed it only ask me to grant administration privileges but then the program does not open.
    which could be the problem?
    Thanks

I bought the 4k Model VN7-591G-729 from newegg and had it for a little over a week.
    4k UHD display, 16gb Rams, 4gb 960m, 256gb m.2 SSD with 1TB HD
Some specs if people are interested.

    4K display - Sharp IGZO LQ156D1JW04
    M.2 SSD 256GB SSD - Toshiba THNSNJ256G8NU
    RAMs - 16GB Samsung 1600mhz DDR3
WIFI - Qualcomm Atheros 61x4 AC WIFI Card

Overall the design of the laptop is pretty nice. 4k display is amazing. Played Dota 2 and Heroes of the Storm in 4k. Everything looked sharp and was able play on high and ultra settings. Color is pretty good, but I think it could be better when comparing it to my Samsung TV.
Likes others had stated, don't really understand or like having all the USB on the right side.
Having a mouse connected on the right side is a hassle, but can be easily fixed if you get a cooling pad.
Bloatware was easily removed with a clean install.
So far there hasn't been any wifi problems.
Some people have stated that they have problems with their space bar key. There don't seem to be any problems with mine. I pressed it on the left side and right side and it registers.

Some things I don't like so far:
The computer runs really hot, can feel it around the middle of the keyboard. The CPU idles around 48-53c even when no programs are running and going up to around 90-93c after 30mins to an hour of gaming. I plan to repaste with IC Diamond to see if that helps lower it.
Also the SD card slot is really hard to remove without something thin to pull out the slot cover. After removing the slot cover the SD cards only go in half way, so it is half exposed. This probably isn't a big deal to many people, but for people who plan to transfer a lot of files from cameras this can be a problem.
The rubbery parts are nice, but it attracts lots of fingerprints.
Keyboard layout can be slightly better, especially the ALT key on left. It was pretty hard to press to ping the map in DOTA 2. Ended up pressing the space a lot.

    Some considerations:
There are no mini Display Port to output 4k at 60hz to people with 4k monitors, so you are stuck with 4k at 30hz with HDMI1.4.
I've read the m.2 slot is only SATA III, so you can't upgrade it to a PCIe SSD.

If I keep the laptop, I'm also considering changing the 1TB HDD for a 256gb SSD (Probably Samsung 850 PRO) but don't really know if it really helps at all since it's going to be a storage drive.
If not I might return to purchase either an Asus Zenbook Pro UX501 or a G501 which are significantly more expensive just for PCIe SSD, better thermals and better designs.

If you plan to buy it from Newegg and worry about return policy if you don't like it, I suggest paying $20 bucks for the premier for 3 months enough to cover the duration of the return period (30 days), since Newegg charges 15% restocking fee for returns.

Guys I have a problem, has anyone here faced it and has any idea what to do?

791g started beeping every hour, exactly at 23 minutes past. The sound isnt coming from the speakers, is very quiet, just a quick double beep.
Beeps at 10:23 then 11:23 12:23 etc etc... and is not dependant on the load, as sometimes i just browse internet and it beeps. Its friggin annoying.
    Im on Win 8.1

Checked all schedulers, system sounds, but nothing there that would point to 23rd minute. If it was some kind of component failure itd beep after Post, right? But not at a fixed time like a god damn time alarm.

I googled it before posting here, and couldn't find anything that would match the situation. Most of the stuff is about random or continuos beeps/problems with schedulers, nothing like my situation. :/
I checked bios and theres nothing worthy there.

    Get Windows 8.1 64bit .iso

Burn it on a bootable USB using a software called Rufus

In the bios put a master password (it's necessary)

    Then disable the secure boot

    Save and restart

    Press F12

Boot from the usb you created

    Install Windows

Get all the drivers from acer.com

I did almost exactly the same, except I didn't disable secure boot (Rufus tools can make an uefi compatible uss boot) .Why disable it? (no offense meant, just asking, I guess there are good reasons)

I saw a method mentioned earlier that another member used. It involved using Paragon Hard Disk manager to clone the HD and copy to the SSD, to retain the acer recovery management partition.

You said get windows iso . From where?? To be clear, I'm asking about doing a fresh install using the Windows 8.1 64 bit provided.

And what about the acer recovery management partition, any info on that?

    Hello all,
I have two simple questions on the website http://www.station-drivers.com/index.php proposed by the moderator I can find A LOT of new drivers for my VN7-791G-71R3, yet these drivers are inexistent or cannot be found on the acer.com website. So, is it safe do download them? How can I make sure that they will not harm my laptop?
Thanks in advance for your replies.

You might not find me reassuring since I'm the moderator you mentioned ;) but I've been using this website for quite a few years and have never had a single virus/malware in any of the files. I feel safe recommending it to users and it's the first place I turn to, when looking for new drivers.

As for Acer support site - Acer does not update drivers unless there is a serious flaw with the driver (either a big security flaw or driver fails to work). Other than that they don't update drivers . It let's them to keep the cost down as far as support is concerned.

Yes many thanks, it is working now. I had to download an older version, because the newest one will just install to Windows 8.1, but fortunately the older still can handle it. Now time to do some benches...

I just installed an m.2 SSD to my 960m v15, so if anybody was wondering, here's a rough guide to the steps I did to reinstall windows on the drive:

    1. go here and download the usb creation tool: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/create-reset-refresh-media
    2. plug in usb drive, run the media creation tool
    3. enable boot menu in bios
    4. reboot, press F12 to bring up boot menu
    5. set up windows
    6. install drivers (AMT, chipset, card reader, nvidia, wireless)

That's it! Note that you don't need to enter any windows keys, and you don't need to disable secure boot.

Hey @downloads I have a doubt regarding the wifi card. I have the model VN7-591g-70RT which has the qualcomm QCA61x4 wifi card as per my device manager. The thing is, this model is supposed to have an ac wifi card and in some websites the card mentioned is listed as having the ac wifi capability.
However, in the properties of the car accessed from the device manager, it has a network mode selection option in which only a/b/g/n are listed and ac is not listed.

Also, I've read in a support forum that this wifi card didn't have ac.
I'm a bit confused here... could you help clear things ??

According to Wi-Fi alliance all QCA61x4 based cards are certified as 802.11ac cards. The fact that there is no setting for it in advanced driver settings doesn't mean much - Intel 7260 which I have doesn't have it either. I can set it to a/b/g/n as well and it works as 802.11ac.

    Hi all!

I am a new member, based on Italy. I registered on this forum mainly because of this thread :) I hope I am welcome! :D
So I recently bought the 591G (4720HQ, 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD and 960m 2GB). I ordered it a few days ago and I hope to receive it soon, should be in my hands before this weekend. Paid around 930€ for it (shipped and taxed).
I also ordered an SSD drive, the M.2 SATA 250GB Crucial MX200, to toss in alongside the mechanical hard drive that is already inside. I was thinking to dual boot Win/Linux, so both OSes will be installed on the SSD.

As I already stated, I hope to receive the machine soon; I didn't read each single post in this thread (it is a bit long), I will slowly do it when I have time. But I want to be prepared for when I will get my hand on the computer, so I have a few question if you're nice enough to answer.

    1) Is someone kind enough to summarize all the flaws/problems that have emerged about this notebook? Can you also share your personal experiences?
    2) Is someone also kind enough to summarize what I should do/check as soon as I receive the laptop (maybe things that were discovered to improve performance/usability, things that I should absolutely avoid and be aware of or problems that my unit may have and I should check immediately)?

All in all, I think this is an awesome machine for its price; I hope I will not be disappointed, can't wait to receive it.

I will wait for some answers, many thanks to anyone who will take his/her time to help me through.
