That notebook really strikes in the hearth of italian users! I'm thinking about buying one from months now.... The price is tempting now but i have some concerns about temperatures, when you will receive it, please post a report of those new models about temperatures, ciao!
-
Playing BF4 all day long.
Cpu at 94ºC and GPU at 86ºC.
Alt+tab and in seconds everything turn cool in just a blink. No problems so far. -
I'll receive mine today, will try it out this evening. If the thing fits your needs, I'd say just go for it. I think you can't go cheaper with those specs, at least here in Italy
If I find some time to do proper tests I'll post indeed something about temps.
Meanwhile, if someone is interested, I can post a few pics of the lappy (unboxing, laptop itself and so on). Let me know guys

Just ordered a Acer Nitro V7-571
Just read up some info and there seems an m.2 slot instead of a msata slot.
I just happen to have 2 msata SSD's from my previous laptop.
Can i use a converter like below will the msata ssd work in the m.2 slot and can i boot off of it?
http://www.amazon.de/CSL-Anschluss-m-2-Schnittstellen-Standard-abwärtskompatibel-bootfähig/dp/B00X5FFRL4/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1431595002&sr=8-2&keywords=m.2 msata -
No, no fan tricks whatsoever. (Could you please link me that thread?). Everything is original, bios too.
Those are the temperatures you can read from some app (they are just normal), but the notebook after a DAY LONG session of BF4 remains really really cool.
And the nicest thing is the fact that it gets only a bit warm in the upper-middle of the base(under the screen) so that your hands can stay cool while gaming.
Close the game, and in no time the cpu/gpu get back to cooler temperatures and the fans stop spinning. The notebook is mute (SSD) again.
Like a tablet. No sound at all.
This is just amazing!! -
And guys... Let's face it...
We can play BF4 fullhd with this parameters, rock solid at 60fps. (And the game is beautiful to see)
I still can't believe it... (It's a slim notebook, not an alienware or Asus ROG)Last edited by a moderator: May 14, 2015 -

@Atom Ant
I checked all latest VN7 BIOSes available on Acer website. Target option "Intel page" has address 0x258 in VN7-791G and VN7-591G models and also in VN7-571 with Haswell CPU. As for VN7-571 model with Broadwell CPU - its BIOS dump has many unnamed options, including 0x258, so maybe it's better to abstain from experiments. -

@Atom Ant
No, I'm not a specialist. -
I've ordered mine too (giunglainformatica) I hope it will not be too slow without ssd because I'm planning to install one later -
Hi everyone!
I'm joining the party and keen to experiment. Mine should arrive next week (i5 4210H, 960m, 1TB) and I will immediately be upgrading with an M.2 drive for Windows and using the 1TB for storage (films and games).
I'm a keen overclocker, so I'll also be investigating overclocking / BIOS hacks / cooling improvements.
Can't wait!
EDIT - Preparations I'm making -
1) BIOS Hack to get advanced options:
https://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-REQUEST-Acer-Aspire-VN7-591G?page=3
2) Download Intel XTU:
http://www.intel.co.uk/content/www/...p-boards-software-extreme-tuning-utility.html
3) Unlock 960m overclocking? TBC...
4) Profit?

hi everyone! long thread here
I am waiting for my machine to arrive with 4710 and 860 and I need 16gb ram, will this notebook support 1866mhz 10cl crucial ram? is there any settings or does BIOS identifies modules and sets frequency and timings corectly?
as I am upgrading good old acer 3820tg I never have seen windows 8, can I use win7 on this one? I mean will it support optimus and Fn keys?
thankyou! -
Hi! For Windows, you could simply install Classic Shell to have a look and feel not too far from Win7, and wait for Win 10. Or you really want Win7 and you may struggle... I think others succeed, I'll let them answer.

I've received mine now and although I'm very happy with it so far, it seems to be fully locked down in terms of overclocking:
960M seems to be BIOS-locked and I cannot get the 347.88 or 347.90 drivers to install, even with an inf mod. As far as I can tell, these are the only ones to allow overclocking.
CPU cannot of course be tuned by Intel XTU - I should have known this! (I've been out of the game too long and forgot that modern Intels are basically locked unless you get an unlocked version).
I'm still working on unlocking the BIOS Advanced menu as per my previous post, but no luck yet. The EFI Shell seems to get stuck.
On the plus point, I've installed an M.2 256GB SSD in addition to the 1TB standard drive and it's lightning fast now! The graphics benchmarks I've run also seem to be speedy!
=)
Keep you posted... -

Of course, I cannot alter the multipliers on my CPU, which is what I meant.
I've already been benchmarking with Furmark (MSI Kombustor) and Intel Burn Test to find the point at which the GPU starts to throttle because the CPU is putting out too much heat. I'll post my findings later.Last edited: May 21, 2015 -
I don't believe overclocking a notebook with a not-so-perfect cooling system is a wise idea
Maybe some minor performance improvement may actually come from undervolting, keeping things cool would help the system stay at higher frequencies - just a theory but it should work.downloads likes this. -
I think for gaming, I need to keep the CPU under control so that the GPU can run without throttling. -
I have a model with 940M, and I could install the newest Geforce driver - I just had to start Win 8.1 with driver signature verification disabled: http://www.howtogeek.com/167723/how...8.1-so-that-you-can-install-unsigned-drivers/
After installing the (at the time) most recent Geforce driver like this, I didn't have to disable driver signature verification again to update the driver. -
OK, here are my "profits":
1) BIOS unlocked as per this thread:
https://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-REQUEST-Acer-Aspire-VN7-791G?pid=90017#pid90017
This enables a LOT of settings that I haven't really played with yet. The only one I've experimented with so far is disabling HyperThreading, which actually has a tiny benefit in the one game I'm using to benchmark. However, the effect is so tiny that I'm leaving it on for the benefit it will probably bring to other things.
2) Intel XTU and ThrottleStop:
These have been beneficial to undervolt and underclock the CPU so that it generates less heat. When I was stress-testing the CPU with Intel Burn Test and the GPU with Furmark (MSI Kombustor), both would end up being thermally throttled as follows:
The blue line is what we want to maximise for gaming. You can see that, at default voltages, the GPU clocks itself down towards 950 MHz and this effect increases beyond ~23 x CPU multiplier (2.3 GHz). The CPU's base frequency is 2.9 GHz but can turbo to 3.5 GHz.
Undervolting to -60 mV (the lowest I could go before the laptop would crash when stability testing), the graph changes to this:
This extends the CPU clock to ~ 27 x (2.7 GHz) before significant GPU throttling kicks in.
3) 960M Overclocking:
Using MSI Kombustor and MSI Afterburner revealed that the core is BIOS / driver-locked. The memory can be overclocked however, although this only yields small benefits. The default memory speed is 2500 MHz and I found that I can go to 3000 MHz (+495 MHz) without stability problems (3333 MHz would crash games).
EDIT - nVidia released an unlocked driver! Now I can easily go to +135 on the core.
http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3659/~/geforce-hotfix-driver-353.00
EDIT 2 - found a way to modify the BIOS of the 960m and increase the overclock from 1202 + 135 = 1337 MHz to 1433 MHz, but the increase in frame rate wasn't worth it in my opinion (50.7 -> 52.0 in Bioshock benchmark). See here for some more details:
http://forum.techinferno.com/genera...ods-900m-series-overclocking-versions-57.html
https://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-Acer-Nitro-VN7-591G-BIOS-help-Unlocking-nVidia-135MHz-limit
Putting it all together into a real-world gaming load
I've been testing with Bioshock Infinite because it has a nice benchmark utility. Using Ultra with DoF (setting #2); 1900 x 1080 gives the following (Average / Min):
Points to take away from this:
- The frame rate isn't really affected until the CPU is dropped down to 12 x multiplier (1.2 GHz).
- Hyperthreading hurts frame rates slightly (but not enough in my opinion to turn it off)
- Overclocking the 960M memory to 3 GHz (+495 MHz) yields about 7% improvement in average framerate.
Thus, for gaming, I'm settling on the following settings:
- Hyperthreading on (default BIOS setting)
- -60 mV undervolt (from Intel XTU)
- +495 MHz overclock on 960M memory (from MSI Afterburner)
- UPDATE WITH nVidia 353.00 drivers = +135 MHz on core hits the magic 50fps!
In Bioshock Infinite @ 1900 x 1080, this yields a total improvement of 19%.Attached Files:

Hi guys. I'm thinking of getting an Acer Nitro 15.6 inch with 860M. It's within my budget and kinda suit my needs. However, I want to double check whether real life experience is any different from notebookcheck review. What I'm concerning about include:
- Battery life: at least 4 hours wifi needed
- Decent spec: I'm a MMO (Tera), Dota 2 and CS: GO player. Can this lap run these games in high setting (if not, med will suffice(
- Decent touchpad and keyboard: I don't want to use a mouse for office use -
Battery Life: Max (!) 4h
Games: absolutely yes. Can run (i7 model) bf4 in high
Touchpad: it's ok. Usable. Need some days to get used to its sensitivity. Not the best on the market tho
Keyboard: i can type on it at the speed of light. I find it perfect for my needs
Go for itTurretOvaKil likes this. -

The advantage of this procedure is : you don't need to flash anything to unlock.....so less risks to brick... There are so many different SKUS for this laptop... You can't just take any bios for your VN7-791g....
-
All you need to do is boot using the EFI shell and change the variable to enable the hidden menu(s).
i.e. from step #8 onwards in that linked post.
As far as I understand it, the previous steps are just about checking the variable ID for the correct menu, otherwise you could end up changing something else.
However, given that both my BIOS (591G) and the 791G in that linked thread have the same variable ID, I'm guessing it's the same for all VN7 BIOS.
Better safe than sorry though... -
46 fps with CPU @ default (29 x with option to go to 35 x turbo)
50 fps with CPU throttled to 28 x without turbo. -
got mine acer with atheros qualcom
wifi drops and not much speed either, no more 5gbit/s when old laptop or even on the phone I get 20+ (speedtest.net)
any suggestions for a replacement? is it M.2 format? -
@juodvarnis Either Intel 7265 or a Killer 1525.

about the notebook (15" 4710hq; 860m) I hate that inaccurate track pad and numpad overall (as I was using 13" with external num pad keyboard on the left) wich makes you twist to the left as you type, because your body is centred to the screen (with is not a problem with laptops without num pad)
the laprop is a bit heavy as my previos acer 3820gt was 1.8kg but I am satisfied because other options was asus 303LN (not so powerful h/w) clevo 230 st/sd (noisy) and gigabyte p34 v2/3 (expensive and noisy)
cpu runs smooth 3,3ghz when rendering and 3,5 gaming, stays cool and quiet
great powerful machine I wish acer made it without num pad like dell prcision M3800 -
Hey guys, I need help with something....
I installed a Samsung 850 evo m2 ssd 500gb in my VN7-591g with 960m. However, while installing ,actually while putting the palm rest back in place, I accidentally pressed the power button, and it showed a message " NO BOOTABLE DEVICE" .
After that, I used the pinhole at the bottom to disconnect the battery and continued with the installation.
Finally after installation I performed a fresh install on the SSD using Windows DVD of the ISO..
For a few days I used to have a dual boot option and now I've completely wiped the hard drive partition with the Old OS.
The problem is, all this while I was using dual boot and also now after I have a single OS installation on the SSD, I kept getting and still get the message "NO BOOTABLE DEVICE"
I use the power button(Long Hold) to power down and power up again and it loads into the OS.
Sorry for rambling on, but this is my problem. If someone has any solution, which preferably doesn't involve opening up the laptop all over again, it would be much appreciated although i'm not completely against the idea. I want to get rid of this problem and please help me out if someone has any information regarding this. -
On a Nitro v17, does anyone notice lag during league of legends? Could this possibly be a wifi issue? The screen freezes for a seconds or two and then catches up. My desktop is on the same network and it much much older like five years and it doesn't have these problems. I tried playing Tera (which I haven't played in a long time) and it appears to have random hiccups once in a while too. Any thoughts? I will try and use my USB wifi card on the laptop tomorrow and see if I have the same problems.
-
Throttling due to high temperature -> Check them with open hardware monitor -> underclock with XTU
Intense background disk activities (if you don't have an SSD installed) -> Close background apps -
Thank you for the suggestions. I check the temps. I do have the SSD 256 GB model plus 1 TB and League is installed on the SSD. Tera is not.

Hello there , i have two question concerning this laptop and gpu overclocking.
- for Samsung memory on the gpu model, i cant go more than 200 mhz in msi afterburner, do you have same results ?
- what is the best cooling pad for this laptop ? i have the coolermaster notepal u3 but i think its not the best choice, i think we need something to extract the hot air at the end , are you agree ?
Thank you all -
Someone knows if you loose the warranty when replacing the HDD? I'm thinking buying a Nitro VN7-571G (Doubt if 4510U or 5500U (Ram differs with the same price) but i would like to put a SSD.
Another thing, the laptop comes with a SD reader, most of the specs in the shops say it come, but in the photos i cant see it.
-
Hi,
There is no warranty sticker to keep you from opening it up.
About SSD, you can either replace the main hard drive with a 2. 5 SSD, or use the M2 port with a M2 2280 SATA SSD, that way you keep the main hard drive for storage.
For the SD Card reader, it is placed on the front right side. The slot is hidden by a plastic part. Be aware that when a sdcard is inserted, it is only half way inside the slot, so not possible to keep it inside and have the laptop in a backpack.. -
Thanks you @snow_61
I request help in a last thing. I cant make up my mind here. (I dont find reviews comparing the battery life between this two models)
http://www.amazon.es/gp/product/B00..._rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=455358067&pf_rd_i=602357031 (i7 4510u 16gb RAM 1tb) (880€) vs
http://www.pccomponentes.com/acer_aspire_v_nitro_vn7_571g_i7_5500u_8gb_1tb_gtx_850m_15_6_.html (i7 5500u 8 Gb Ram 875€) The price it's virtually the same, but anyway, i know the performance of both it's pretty the same. How about battery life? Someone knows or can put a link with reviews of the models? Thanks you! -
-
I'm pretty sure that 5500u has a better performance x watt, so since RAM upgrade is always an option, go for 5500u and 850m

I just purchased NB ACER VN7-591G-70RT NX.MUUAA.001 from newegg.com and the WiFi problem is confirmed on this unit using the included Qualcomm card. Based on this thread I anticipated this and ordered the CH Intel|7260.HMWWB.R R but this appears to be the wrong card for this laptop. Apparently there is a standard Mini PCI Express and an M.2 PCI Express? Does anyone have the exact part number for the Intel card that fits?
-
There is not M.2 PCI Express, it's just called M.2 but the easiest way is to buy an Intel 7265 - it's basically the same as 7260 but only made in M.2 format.

hey guys, i was wondering if anyone knows how to disable the backlit keyboard light from being enabled when the laptop opens, and how to automatically enable numlock when i open the laptop?

Anyone knows why the latest 353.06 WHQL nVidia drivers are available for cards such as GTX 860M, 850M and so on and not for the GTX 960M? Looks very strange to me...
