    Hi,

last month I sent my v7 to service because of wifi that didn't work and screen not working entirely well. Anyway, couple days ago they called me to tell me they want to give me my money back. Apparently they couldn't fix the issue - which is not so surprising I guess.
So I'm looking at replacement and wonder if anyone has experience with Acer V15 Nitro (VN7-571G-502G)? It's version with Broadwell i5 cpu and weaker GPU which doesn't bother me, because I'm not heavy gamer. But I can get the machine for about $780 which seems pretty good, all things considered. Compared to my V7, I'd get more RAM, more space with hybrid HDD, probably overall much smoother performance, about the same battery life and screen, probably better touchpad (one on V7 was disaster) and so on. I use software like Photoshop or watch HD stream vids from concerts etc, so I think this one would handle that easily.
My two concerns are built quality, noise (im pretty sensitive about that), overheating AND Wifi. I've read some concerning comments about wi-fi. Is it just few users having wifi issues or is it common? My V7 worked pretty amazing for a year, but then wifi stopped working - most likely something with antenna cable went wrong. So I'd expect Nitro to be at least as good as V7 that had no problem connecting from opposite side of the apartment through three walls.

Installed windows 10 yesterday. Everything seems to work nice and smooth, but i'm confused about drivers. In acer website, it only gives 7 drivers for windows 10, should we wait for others or try to use drivers from windows 8 ??? But then i tried to use acer quick access app from win 8.1 category and it didn't work! So, i guess we need still wait for more drivers and apps ? Also, Dolby home theater doesn't work for me in win 10.. Anybody has similar experience ?

Installed Windows 10 yesterday. So far so good, except for 1 thing, which is Fn + F3 (turn off wifi shortcut) didn't work. And also there is no Windows startup sound play whenever I restart my Acer Aspire VN7-591G-744N, even though I have tick the option (not sure whether is Windows problem or not).

First i did an upgrade to Windows 10 and everything worked including the Acer apps. Then I did a clean install of windows 10 and used the Audio, Card Reader, Chipset and Management Engine driver from the Acer website for my model. I used the newer Intel and Nvidia drivers form their sites. IMO no need for other drivers. Dolby home theater does work for me. I can't install the Acer Windows 8.1 apps because they say they are incompatible. I hope they will release Windows 10 apps for Quick Access and Launch Manager. They are the only Acer apps I would like to have on Windows 10.

No not with a clean install , because it needs (I think) Launch Manager.
Yes when you do an upgrade from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 because then the Acer apps stay installed and keep working.

Do you had to install dolby separately from audio drivers package, after you installed audio drivers, like i did ? For me, dolby program opens but it doesn't "catch" any sound. I mean, when i watch movie or listen to music, dolby equalizer does nothing and sound doesn't change if i change presets. I'm not sure how to explain better, but i hope you know what i mean ? I wonder if there's any work around for that? Dolby program doesn't have any settings itself to select audio source...

    Hi guys,
I recently bought a VN7 791G and I was wondering if anyone has an idea of the vbios update, bios v1.11. I'm not sure if I should upgrade or not. Does anyone has more info about the new bios?

No it came automatically after installing the audio driver (6.0.1.7553) from Acer and the reboot. Maybe just start over. Uninstall Dolby and the audio driver reboot and just install the audio driver again by running Setup.exe and after another reboot both work on my laptop.

I'm also not sure but did upgrade first to version 1.10 and then 1.11.

Looking for case (and/or Backpack) for my New V17 Nitro.
Most 17/17.3 laptop cases have inner dimensions that look too Small for the 16.65" width.
    Anyone?

Device manager shows two speakers. This laptop has 2 speakers with 4 speaker drivers - two drivers in one box. No physical support for any kind of surround sound.

Has anyone noticed that using any other (newer) Realtek driver than the one on Acer's webpage results in popping sounds during audio playback while the screen is off? I've tried numerous drivers from the 7400 and 7500 versions and I always have to go back to the one from Acer (version 7300 something) Using an 571g with i5-5200u

Edit: forget to add that I tried a fresh install of Windows 10 and I had the same problem, but the pops presented themselves with the Acer drivers too... So I restored my backup of Windows 8.1 - the laptop is pop-free again...

that is interesting. anyway, I think, that in win 10 its not working correctly. I have in device manager: Microphone, speakers and something like stereo mixer. But in settings the stereo mixer is not for playback, but for recording as well as the microphone. (my win 10 is not in english).

Did someone figure out the paths required for the vn7-571g model to change fan speed?

Edit: found it after reading the follwing post, all credits to liviu009:
Change the value of 90x03 to 14, then change 90x04 to a value of your liking.
Currently determining the range of the fan. Probably the same as above (99 - 60).
Edit: range is FF - 50, with 50 being the max. I can set it to 40 but fan won't spin any faster

I don't know if it's graphic card, but on Acer community forum I was told that wireless mouse can be blamed for some wi-fi issues. Otherwise, luckily I don't have this issue.

That is correct since some mice operate in the same 2,4 GHz spectrum as wifi. 5 GHz spectrum is unaffected.

Hi guys. I recently got my Acer VN7-791G.
    Some questions.
Do I have to unlock my bios to disable Hyperthreading? I play Arma, it needs first core to be as fast as possible.
Is bios unlocking risky? Will i lose my short warranty?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hello guys,

I'm new owner of this notebook (VN7-571G). The colour temperature of display looks too cold (bluish) for me. I played little bit with Intel HD graphics settings but I was not able to reach comfortable results. Please could anybody of you who are using modified display settings to share his colour settings? It would be very helpful for me.

I also noticed as all of you that there is touchpad latency (delay) when touching the touchpad first time. I saw on my friend's laptop (also Aspire Nitro) who is running Linux that there is no delay when touching the touchpad. So it has to be software (drivers) problem. I suppose that nobody find solution for this so far... I tried to search also for alternative precision touchpad drivers but no luck.

    Thank you for any advice!

You can disable hyperthreading by setting your maximum power state in energy setting to 99% instead of 100%.

Nope - that disables Turbo Boost, not HT. HT has to be disabled in BIOS indeed.

Hi, I recently purchased a nitro and took it out of the box/sleeve and noticed the rubber cover had a lot of stains. I tried a simple wet towel wipe but it is not coming off. Anyone bought a new nitro have this issue?

Bastaerd, that's how you disable Turbo... setting power plan setting for CPU Max to 99% disables Turbo, and then the CPU only runs at base clock speed.

There is no 1 Windows tweak for disabling Hyper-threading.

But, on a per process basis you can use Task Manager, Details, right click on process and select Set Affinity - then uncheck the odd CPU cores - that will effectively disable Hyper-threading. :)

No, I got it in Taiwan. It came in the usual box with sealed tape and such. I found an Acer service center 30 minutes away from me so I'm probably going to take it in. It feels sticky so it might be some sort of leftover residue from production. I don't want to risk anything more than light soap, and since that didn't work I'll let them take care of it.

I have a VN7 591g and was angry about the high temperatures . For example, in BF4 online I had on all cores 98 to 99 degrees and GPU so at 94 degrees. Well I decided , why not sample the Frimel to take work on me and the board to expand to the WLP to Exchange . Okay, okay 5 months than the NB .

Well was really an effort and has but very worth it. As a paste I used the Thermal Grizzly and must say a really good paste , and the mehere syringes essays here are made of rubber which have a broad peak so that leaves the paste spread equally well .

Temperatures are now at BF4 cores btw 88 and 84 degrees at most and the GPU at 85 degrees thus have a 10 degrees better temperature profile the IDL temperatures are better .

My wife has a V5 573G and there I will also change the paste which is easier there , man need not remove the board .

Quick Access 2.00.3006 and ePower 7.00.8109 are now available on the support page and for Windows 10 64-bit.
Dust Defender now works on a clean install :)
The only thing missing is Launch Manager, but is probably not necessary because all the special (Fn) keys work.

So how do you disable pinch zoom or multitouch entirely on a V15 VN7-571G? I have a fresh install of Windows 8.1, no Synaptics tab in mouse settings and no option to turn it off anywhere. It's a huge deal because this laptop will be used by a technologically challenged person who will freak out when things start randomly zooming in, out and otherwise jumping around the place.

I bought a 4K screened nitro and have been using it for a week or so. Major upgrade over my 5 year old Alienware m11x. I have zero complaints.
I am a little disappointed that the max frames when outputting to my 4K 60" Vizio is 30. I would like to play some unfinished older games on the big screen that are well past 60 FPS on the Nitro 15.6" screen at 4k. I know my Vizio can do 60hz at 4k with my GTX 970 equipped tower.

Wonder why Acer didn't spec the HDMI out to >2.0 for those that splurged for the 4K screen?

HI guys, just bought mine (15") last Saturday, I wanted to upgrade to 16 gb of ram, would using 2x 8gb kingston ram be better than just adding 1 x 8 gb Kingston ram to the existing 1 x 8gb samsung ram?

Nope, except if the two sticks have better timings and/or higher frequency of operation. The slowest dimm sets the timings and frequency.

Good day guys, here again for some advice, upgraded my 15" to a total of 16gb ram, and 120gb SSD boot drive. Also did a clean install of windows 10 (although I haven't formatted the HDD yet), and wifi seems to be working but download time seems to be slow, could be my internet, since using the LAN port didn't help much (assuming that there is no issue with my LAN port). Will be installing Quick Access and ePower, and intel VGA drivers as well. What important drivers aside from those do I need to install? Also can anyone shed some light with what Quick Access do? Not really sure what it does.
