If you like screen reflection all over you can buy a glossy touch screen, for me that was totally useless on a gaming or desktop replacement laptop, I see only inconvenient, it's useful on hybrid laptops.

The 17'' IPS screen on the Nitro is really good, if you don't believe read the reviews !

Touchscreen is not needed to have a glossy display. Is that what you actually think?

If you don't have a touch screen with a glossy display, it's more than useless for me in this case !

I already have own a glossy laptop and never again for me, this is only my point of view of course.

Edit : I owned two glossy laptop without touch screen, one was a Acer TimeLine and the other one a Sony Ultrabook.

I see what you mean. Out of curiosity, are there any throttling issues with the Acer Aspire V15 Black Edition?

Also, I got the HP Omen with Nvidia 960M and 8 GB ram. Do you think thats good enough to play games for the next 2 years at medium settings? The ram isnt upgradable.

The Acer Aspire V15 has 16 GB ram. with the same video card. Would more ram make a difference? In other words, should I stick with the HP Omen or buy the Acer Aspire V15? Would the difference in ram not make a difference with games?

@koolxxx I don't see a point in buying a new notebook for gaming right now. nVidia is supposed to launch new GPUs in the middle of this year - so in more or less 3 months. According to their road-map these cards will stay with us for 2 years ( with a small re-badge just like 860M GT became 960M GT).

So you'd be buying an outgoing GPU that is for all intents and purposes 2 years old now and you'd be dong this 3 months or so prior to new cards being launched. If I were you I'd wait.

Also to answer your second question, you won't see much of a difference between Omen and Nitro anyway - not enough to warrant spending money on it.

@koolxxx About CPU throttling issue, you can use ThrottleStop or Intel Extreme Tuning Utility (XTU) to undervolt the CPU without losing in performance. You can also increase the fans speed on some laptops (Nitro).

As "downloads" say you have no reason to change your Omen for a Nitro, they are in the same league, it's better to change for the new coming GPU generation.

Edit : 8 Gigas ram is largely enough for gaming, 16 Gigas is useful for virtualization.

    Hi guys,

I'm user of Acer Vn7-571G. Last week I wanted to repaste CPU along with GPU but suddenly I broke antenna connector on WiFi card. Black cable won't fit. I decided to buy new WiFi card (Intel 7260) but it seems the card is too big and it doesn't fit either. It's not M.2 format but PCI-E. How is it possible?

How can I repair the antenna connector? There's some metal inside the connector that has to be moved to its original possition but it's REALLY small. Guy who invented the connector should be sentenced to death :)

I don't want to buy new card. I'll return the one I bought already (Intel) and try to fix the connector from antenna. It really small and my hands are quite too big to do it :D

Today, during a gaming session, the computer stopped suddenly (no BSoD, nothing, just shutdown). I thought it was the computer overheating, because it looked like the only possible explanation to such a shutdown, but the MB wasn't hot at all when I opened it to check. It could also be a short-circuit but nothing seemed out of place.

Now nothing happens when I try to turn the computer on, and the power light won't even turn on when I plug the AC in the computer (it was plugged in and the light was on when it shut down).

Should I RMA it ? If I should, would it be possible to return it without the HDD (I switched it with a SSD I had in my older laptop) and get one without HDD ?

Just bought the Acer Aspire V Nitro VN7-591G-792U for $729 on newegg. From the looks of it I would like to do two things to it. I would like to add in m.2 sdd and I want to upgrade the ram from 8gigs to 16gigs. Is this good sdd for this laptop http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147398 Also I've never upgraded ram on a laptop before. Can anyone suggest an 8gig stick that I should get? Preferably from newegg and a budget one is just fine. Not looking to spend to much if possible.

I have updated my Nitro V15 to windows 10 and I noticed that the new version of acer quick access app does not have the network sharing option anymore.
I want to know if anything can be done to bring that option back?
and if not then is there any way to run wifi as well as hotspot simultaneously?
Thanks in advance if anyone could shed some light.

@ mattstermh Don't know your exact model, but as I know the Nitro use a M.2 SSD interface, an evolution of the MSATA.

I had tried asking this in another thread, but thought to ask it here too.

Is there any possibility to oc the screen on VN7-791G, I mean the LG Display LP173WF4-SPF1, and is it possible to Gsync enable it.

You have to remove all screws and take keyboard out.

If you have done this before, it is as easy as with most laptops. Just a bit more uncomfortable, but still within acceptable range.

The hard drive is easy to change (or so I hope, my mb apparently fried 1 month after I changed the hdd and now aftersales tell me they may or may not charge me because I did that...)
RAM slots, cpu/gpu heat sinks are a lot tougher to reach (you have to open the laptop AND unscrew totally the MB)

I recently purchased the Acer Aspire V Nitro VN7-591G-792U laptop. I'm interested in purchasing a second charger for it. Does the charger have to be the exact same one that came with it or are there generic chargers that will work with this laptop? I'm not looking to spend that much money if possible so the cheapest one will do. Would something like this work? http://www.amazon.com/Universal-Adapter-Charger-Laptop-Notebook/dp/B0027C16H0

Hi, guys. I have a problem here. My web cam used to work just fine, but thing is, i don't use it much. Tried today after probably 6 months of not using it and it can't be detected now. Since i haven't used it for a while, i'm not sure if it's new OS (windows 10, used 8.1 before) or the fact that i've opened my laptop for cleaning and MAYBE didn't plug the wire back. :/
Now in a device manager there's no imaging devices category; skype is unable to find my web cam AND when i try to install drivers from acer website, driver installer can't find camera neither. Maybe someone knows which exact wire connects webcam? Or could it still be software issue?

check to see if your built in microphone works or not. The mic/Webcam share the same cable, so if the mic doesn't work then its a safe bet the cable is not plugged in correctly, or at all, on the motherboard end

Great, thanks for the idea. It turns out that mic is working. What can i do then software wise, since like i said there's no imaging devices in device manager, neither skype or even acer drivers itself can't find my webcam? Did a little google search yesterday, everyone suggest to update drivers, but in this case? Maybe i could somehow find drivers by webcam assembly serial number or something like that? Knowing acer's overall quality in some things i wouldn't be too surprised if it's hardware issue after all, but then again - mic is working..

There is another possibility. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can remove the bezel around the screen and check to see if the cable going into the webcam module is firmly plugged in. There is a small piece of tape holding the plug in place, peel that back and you will see the connector. its very tiny

Great. I have some idea before doing that. As i remember, webcam worked just fine in windows 8.1. Going to install WMvare workstation and win 8.1 in it, try to use it in win 8.1 first.

Ok, so i did both. Installed win 8.1 - no go. Webcam still can't be found. Ok. Removed the bezel and disconnected - reconnected cable maybe 4 times, firmly and correctly. Still no go. I think it's safe to say that my webcam is dead?

That is a distinct possibility. Other than opening the whole thing up to double checkj the motherboard end of the cable isn't in wonky, or some pins are dirty, the only other possibility is a dud cable itself, which is the least likely IMO

Checked the motherboard end of connector. Well, i wasn't 100% sure which wire it is but there's a wire that goes from that bezel around the screen and goes alongside the fan on the left side. So i guess it's that one for sure. Well, connectors on both ends seem to be ok and connected. Other than that, i have an multimeter so theoretically i could've checked continuity in the wire itself etc. but individual wires in a connector are just too tiny for standard multimeter pins i have. Anyway, i think it's pretty safe to think that webcam it self is dead. I just wonder how thing like that can suddenly die without even using it.

@siluetaz Actually it happens all the time - I have no idea why but I've seen that happen way more than a dozen of times to different Acer notebooks (probably not only Acers but since I moderate this forum I read every post made here while only some posts made elsewhere).

I know I'm not being helpful - I'm just providing context.

    Hi all!

I have a VN7-791G notebook(i7-950m), and i just got it back from service. They were really fast, the whole procedure via UPS took only 2 weeks. The problem was the right side fan behaviour. It span at full speed even when the system was idle, or changed the speed randomly independently of the workload. Sometimes acted normally, but after a cold start it went crazy more often.
The service (in Czeh Republic) upgraded the bios to version 1.14. On Acer website i cant find the 1.14 bios version, just 1.10. My question is: has anybody else this 1.14 version?
When i arrive at home i will test whether this upgrade really helps or not. I will inform you, maybe somebody else has the same problem i had. And one more thing, i dont have throttling issues at all.

I think my bios was 1.14 on my 592G (15inch Skylake i5 960M). But I can't be sure bc it's in service too.

Check the bios available on other models of the series, but I think it's normal

Very interested in this laptop for the TB3 port and future eGPU support like the Razer Core.
    Couple of questions:
    1) looking to get the latest skylake version Black Edition with i7 and after reading through this thread it seems temp wise you have some people say it throttles when gaming and some say it doesn't so any input on this from actual owners would be greatly appreciated.
    2) is the 1080p screen nice and bright and colorful?
Nothing worse then a dull screen on a gaming laptop and not interested in 4K
    3) is upgrading components like RAM and SSD doable ?
    4) how about repasting GPU/CPU?
5)how loud does it get under load/gaming?
I realize thin gaming laptops will run hotter and louder but again would like to hear from actual owners.
Now I'm not afraid of taking thingy apart but some laptops you basically have to totally tear things down for access.
It basically comes down to this laptop or a DELL XPS 15 .
    Thanks

    1. minimal throttling on default voltage. after reducing voltage by 150mv, it does not throttle anymore. http://i.imgur.com/lEjvtBf.png
    2. screen is awesome, best laptop screen i've seen
    3. access to motherboard requires removing the keyboard. SSD and HDD is easy to change. RAM is on the underneath side, so motherboard must be removed to access RAM.
    5. you will only hear the fan if you mute the speakers during gaming.

What are the chances of getting a eGPU like a Razer Core working with this laptop?
Do you guys think it will be plug and play or would you need some sort of software/Bios update from ACER?
I know they have there own eGPU dock in the works but that's only a 960M so unless you can run it in SLI I don't see the point .
    It looks promising but.....

I think it's fair to update my problem if someone else has it on the future. Thankfully Acer has a 2 year guarantee so sent it to them. Apparently fans had some sort of defect and causing those interferences on the speaker, they changed the fans and also both speakers (which I can't fully understand) of my laptop and sent it back. Everything is fixed. It took a week from sending the laptop to having it back home, they had to order the parts elsewhere, that took two or three days more.

    I need your help guys.

After repasting CPU/GPU with Gelid GC Extreme the fan works always on full load. It doesn't slow after time, CPU temp is around 29C. What's wrong? I thought I put the fan cable wrong side but it's one way cable.

    Ideas?

I just received my new Acer V15.
I have done some research here but didn't have the strengh to read the whole topic, and I haven't found a solution to my problem.

The touchpad is pratically unusable to scroll. This is beyond measure. Sometimes it doesn't scroll, sometimes it does after 3 seconds suddenly, sometimes it's a bit fine.
It's not a browser related issue. I've read others having the same problem.

I tried upgrading the drivers, trying different ones, with no success. I think this is not a hardware related issue, but a software one. What I don't understand if that no review online has ever mentioned such a dramatic problem. I don't want to have to use a mouse all the time.

Does anyone have a solution ?

    Thanks !

Ok, so i've been using my acer vn7 791g for over a year now. I knew touchpad on this model is not so good even before buying it (reviews, forums all mentioned that) so after i got my laptop and wasn't impressed with it (touchpad) i just thought it's "normal" and never really got into any particular other users problems with it and how to (maybe) solve it. Anyway, my GF just brought a lenovo y700 and it got me mad again how her's are working just fine and with no issues even though it feels sort of clicky. Than i did some google searching and found that people are frequently experiencing scrolling / right button issues with acer's touchpad?
In my case, scrolling and right button works like charm, but left button is almost unusable. You have to press it really hard and in a certain spot to get it register a left click, REALLY annoying if trying to mark and copy text (always takes at least 2-3 attempts). I wonder if anyone experience this particular problem, and maybe someone got any luck with warranty service OR maybe fixing it yourself, since it definitely looks like hardware issue? Many thanks for your time. :)

My touchpad does not register my hand on it sometimes...

Got used to it, and using a RAT PRO X mouse, so no real worries here about the touchpad. IT's not that important on a gaming machine.

I would agree, though i seldom (always never) use my laptop on a table, neither it's particularly a gaming machine for me. :) If a play something, which is mostly nba 2k or something like gta V, i always use gamepad anyways. If i'm just browsing web than i'm on my bed mostly.

My Nitro black edition hits 99C when playing CSGO, and putting my cooler under it literally makes no difference.

    99C on CS:go...

I played Star Craft II for hours with better temps...
    And Singularity,
    prototype II
    many other games

Maybe there is something wrong with it, like a clogged vent?

or maybe the temp is not showing correctly?

Temps should be much better on it.

It's been like this for weeks. I tried both Throttlestop and HWMonitor - HWMonitor actually shows 99 whereas Throttlestop shows 96...

Do you have visible dust collecting?

maybe the drivers have gone bad? Have you tried reinstalling the drivers?

Also CPU or GPU is getting these temps?
