I tried ES CPU once, on this acer and it did not work. I have no idea if it was because it was an ES or because the BIOS limitation. But there is bunch of guys using ES CPUs, but there is no gurantee they will work.

I think I would go with a OEM CPU next..

The most important thing for you at this point is it to be able to return.

I have not broke it :D I'm up to a hardware mod, so I had to buy diffrent things to make it complete.

IF you can get the CPU to work, I'll buy one as well. But I'll have to see how far you can overclock it first :D I want my RAM to run at 1333 Mhz.

Ok, but in order to install the X9100, I have to restore the original bios? Because I have the modded version that you had posted...

Not nessesarly. But, I'm using the orginal BIOS now, because ACER updated our BIOS frimware few months ago, so the modded one is 1 version older, if I'm not wrong. I stay official and up to date. I suggest you the same my friend.

Ugh, I do remember now. I took the BIOS file from support.acer.com and replaced it with the costum one I uploaded. And flashed just as I flash costum BIOS. Yup, this was the way... You feel safe about it?

I have actually never used that, and since I don't have my ACER running, I can't answer that. But, then again, you won't be able to install a costum BIOS with ACER UPDATE PROGRAM, but you will be able to overwrite the costum BIOS.. But really, if you still is not sure ask Kizwan from the ACER BIOS MODDING section. I'm sure he'll be glad to help you out.

    UPDATE:
I orderd the last part needed for my laptop to run for 108 USD. Well, I'm on a total of 408 USD. Not cool at all guys.

Not quite default due to the res, but a nice score none the less.

Selling the t9900 and HD6770 seems a bit odd, still a very potent combo.

    Hey! Whats up everyone?
I'm new here and i came here cause ive bought 2 of these Aspires :)

Yo Nik_7 whats with the X9100? I'm thinking that It will not work cause the ES version did not. Hope that I'm wrong :)

Sorry for my bad english I'm from poland too like this guy couple pages back :)

TuNaY i saw you YT channel would you like to play GTA IV or EFLC with me??

    I i've got some questions:
In both of my 5739G's ive got GT240M, 4GB 1066MHz samsung and Hynix memory, a P7350 and a T6600 CPU, I know you guys were running the T9xxx CPU's. Is there any modded BIOS needed to run these CPU's?
I would really like to stick with a T9550 :)

I dont have a option to get a HD6770M only from ebay for 200$ WOW.
    But i can get a GTS250M from allegro.pl (polish ebay) for 400zł about 122$
and sell my GT240 for about 85$. Is it worth it? My fan's already rolling like crazy. What should perform better in GTA 4, MW3 P7350 or a T6600?

    Thanx for help!

    Welcome to NBR my friend!

I'm also waiting for the results from Nik!! Let's hope it works!

I'm not playing GTA IV anymore, that's due to my ACER is still waiting for parts and is not usable at the time. Also, most of my friends (which includes most of the famous GTA IV players, you know who they are if you play GTA IV regularly.) are not playing the game anymore. I still do have contact with them thorugh Facebook and Youtube. And btw, that's not my only channel, but the main, for now.

You don't need any modded BIOS to run A T9xxx CPU, but after upgrade, I would highly recommend a Factory reset in BIOS.

For the grapichcard, I'm still not going to upgrade, but if I would, it seems like I would get the HD6770M, that's due to the GDDR5 memory.

A GTS250M is also fine, but that is a GDDR3 (if I'm not mistaken).

But, if you want to play GTA IV, go for a better CPU, that game eats more of your CPU then no other game out there. And with a little bit overclock on your current GT240, I think I'll be good to go actually.

Also, is your fans too loud? If so, check what manufactor your fan is from, we here have confirmed that there is two diffrent manufactorsand they does perform diffrently actually.

    And about my parts;
They did not have a ETA on any of my parts, expect for one, so I've got a full refund and the only part they had is shipped on way to me.

I've got most of the other parts (which is not ACER, but for the modifications I've had planned). BUT, I'M not going to do any modifications at first I think. I'll have to find the parts first.

This therad went a little bit "dead", but I have alot of school and work going on. Feel free to P.M. me if there is anything.

yea sorry about the silent days past couple weeks, I have been ordering my 2500k super-build and just received everything yesterday built the whole thing in an HOUR!!!! I love how they made it SOO easy and its my first build tooo!!! just waiting for my 560ti which I snatched up for $165.

Anyhow, I have dreams of modifying this laptop into a all in one Touch PC. Its got a nice GPU and processor is good enough. Im thinking with Windows 8 coming along it would be pretty awesome to have this kind of thing.
I just need some ideas on how to add a touch input in this thing. I have to research about this extensively I suppose.

Ok, for the moment I have no news yet of my X9100 (but I think it could come next week), but I managed to recover a bit' of ram and i put on a module with 4 gb @ 1333 MHz  and an old samsung module of 2 gb, now i've got 6 gb of ram and I must say that the difference, even with the P8700, it feels all right. :D
Oh, by the way, I bought the OEM version of 'X9100 therefore, almost certainly will work ... ;) ;)

4gb and 6gb of ram has noticable difference in them in overall snappiness. I have 6gb of Ram atm too.

Ok, I'm BACK - lost my password :)
What the hell are you guys using for your 5739g's? 6GB of RAM?
I guess 8 would run as well? ///zxczxc12////

Are all small HDD drives run so fast?

Ive got now a 120GB Hitachi and its faster than a 320GB in booting up OS.
But the 320GB should be faster cause its a 7,2k rpm HDD and it has better results in programms like HDTune... And on the 320GB there is a fresh copy of Win7 which should turn on faster than the more used with programms copy on the 120Gig.

    Which hdd would you prefer?
I have no money for a SSD.
    WD3200BEKT would be good?

Like i mentioned before ive got two 5739g's with a ADDA and SUNON fans.

    http://www.aukcjoner.pl/gallery/007664137-Aukcje-internetowe-darmowa-galeria-zdjec.html#I1

    The SUNON is running quieter...

    I overclocked the GT240M's from stock 550/1210/790 to 650/1450/950. 6500/7500p. in 3D mark 06 without/with oc
    What are your results guys?
Have you done a VMod for the card? Flashed any NVIDIA BIOS?

My plan is to build 1 good notebook out of 2 5739g's and the second one od going for sell.
    I already got a client. :)

I just want to make the laptop faster in OS and games like GTA 4, COD4, MW3, and get ready for the future :)

And how are you overclocking these CPU's and rams?
I know that i need a modded bios but you OC it in BIOS or in OS using for example SetFPB, whats the clock generator?

edit1. corrections again = I'm soo bad xD

Ok, but for now we should at least know the model of yours CPU, for example, my C2D P8700 apparently is not able in overclocking ... But overall, I think that all versions with the prefix "P" are not good for the oc, while the "T" versions (known as the T9900), seems to be good for overclocking ...

For the HDD, go for Scorpio Black, that should be more overall fast. I got one of those myself. Go for the Green labled FAN. That will keep your tempratures a bit lower. You can read your vBIOS with GPU-Z and edit with if it is in intrest. But seriously, if you want to sell one of it, but the best CPU to that one you going to sell, and buy your self a T9900 if you think 3.06Ghz will be enough, or go for the X9100 after it is confirmed by Nik. You should be able to overclock with TS a bit, I hope really.

For the PLL overclocking, you need modded BIOS and SetFSB. (NOT FPB).

The PLL is listed in the guide linked to first post, also there is some deep sleep settings you have to edit to avoid bluescreen.

I've also have some results overclocked somewhere in this therad (check "others" in first post).

This is true. I've tried to overclock my P8400 it did not work good at all. The voltage is just too low.

Overall as I said above, just sell it for a bit more money with good CPU and get your self a T9900 or X9100.

My ACER is going to be up and running next week I hope. Waiting for few last parts as RAM, going to arrive Monday.

Can i change the Mem clk? Without OC the CPU and doing any modifications for the BIOS?
Do you know some sites that are making some benchmarking for HDD's?

Yo the T9900 is toooooo expensive lol...
For this money i would sell this notebook and buy another with an i3/i5..

And i just finished with my mods!!!!
I build my favorite notebook out of two 5739g's.
Now ive got a mat LED screen, and the back in perfect condition.
    Was a lot of work... 10h :)
    Not only the LCD exchange..
I cleared both of them inside, they were in single parts!
    I'm happy that everything works.
Do you want to sell the P8700? Whats the prize for it?

You can use MemSet to modify the memory timings. Althorugh the changes would be minimal, but if you are like me and want every single bit to count you can do that :)

I can sell you the P8 400 but, seriously, then I would try both the T series CPU you have and try to get it stable at 1333Mhz with FSB overclock.

I have some pictures of my laptop but I'll upload them all together later. Waiting for my last parts as I said.

How much do you want for the P8400?
I think I'm not gonna O/C my CPU, just gonna leave it at stock (which is high enough) clock. P9550 is cheap and good, otherwise a P8700/P8600 will do.
I'm not counting every bit like you :)
    Don't have time for this.
I Would rather prefer go for new generation and sell the Acer for good money.
Does BF3, BD BC2 eats the CPU at most?

I don't play those games, but I know Black Ops and GTA IV do.

I'm most likely going to buy another main laptop, currently looking into Macbooks, but I'm not sure yet. The Acer for me is just a hobby laptop thing. I have not used it for over a month now, took it apart few days ago and finished off the mods. Now, I'm waiting for the last parts if it boot up, everything is going to be amazing. If it dosent' however, I don't know what to do.

I have 4 working laptops, included Acer. I have to sell 1 or 2 of them, atleast. Don't want to sell my Acer, but if I do get good money for it, I will at the end.

Where do you live? I live in Norway, the shipping will be high as f... Go ebay.

Today I got the X9100!! And guess what .... it works !!!!! And the temperatures are very low, and the maximum is 80/82 ° C. It 'really fast, and are already able to overclock up to 3.3/3.4 GHz, with up to 84/85 ° C with stock voltages (using Trotthle Stop). The only problem perhaps, is that the seller sold me a X9100 ES, and not an OEM ... Well, anyway, after all I have to say it was worth it .. And here are some screens:

Haha i thought that the X9100 its a Quad Core lol. :(
Whats the difference between T9900 and a X9100?
Its weird some guy had a X9100 ES version and it did not work.

    And i bought a T9550 like I said for 66$ (220ZŁ ;). with transport.
Hope it will speed up my PC 2,2GHz vs 2,6 :)

You cant get E0 X9100 OEM, they were only ES. All OEMs are C0.

    T9900 = locked, X9100 = unlocked.

The T9900 is locked to 3.06Ghz unless you can get a stable FSB overclock. X9100 have unlocked multiplers, or atleast you can "hack" so it works with ThorttleStop.

That is awesome news Nik!! Now, can you please try to lower your multipler and see if you can get stable 1333Mhz at 3Ghz or even lower (or higher)?

The best imporvment will be the FSB (RAM and CPU) alltogher overclocked.

My parts arrived today, but I've just been too lazy to get'em.

However, someone wanted buy my Acer (bulid up ofcourse) today, I don't want to sell it, but the price is just too good :( However, I hope he backs off :D

By the way, those tempratures is rather good, very similar to what I've had with T9900, everything at stock, without any mods. You've been also added to first post :)

Hello all, I am new here and had a few questions. I am pretty new to upgrading laptops but have exp. with towers.

    1. To run over 4g of ram do I need to flash bios or will the ram register? I bought 2x4g gskills 1333 ram and saw that some people have got it to work.

    2. To change the cpu do I have to remove the whole back plate?
I did removed the panel that covers the gpu, cpu, ram but the fan is partially covered and when I unscrew the cpu's heat sink I can only lift it up to an 22% angle since there is a tube attached.

I did flash the bios from the first page but think it didnt unlock since I am running a T6500 cpu.

    My specs are
Acer Aspire 5739 (all stock atm until upgrades arrive)
    T6500
nVidia gt 130 (I bought a 4670 gpu, waiting for it to come)
    250 hd
    Windows Vista 64

    Hello and welcome :)

You don't need to flash anything to get 4GB to work. However, I'll suggest you to upgrade your BIOS to last version if you don't allready have it. I have/had the same RAM modules running in my laptop :)

You have to take the whole laptop apart in orderd to be able to remove the CPU. That sucks, but nothing we can do.. :)

Did you flash the modded BIOS? That only gives you a more options in BIOS settings, and makes SetFSB able to do a FSB overclock. If you don't planning to overclock, I would stick with the stock BIOS.

Your specs seems good, the only thing I would do is to upgrade to Windows 7 64-Bit and maybe some 7200-rpm HDD (or SSD if you can afford it).

Feel free to ask if there is anything :)

I updated my bios with the latest one I could find from Acer Support: Downloads & Support Documents - Notebook / Aspire / Aspire 5739G, dated 7/24/2009. I do not plan to OC my cpu or GPU so I guess unlocking the bios wouldn't matter.

I'm getting a hd4670 GPU off ebay but it had me worried since under the description was ddr2. I sent him and he assured me it is ddr3 and type a. The cpu I'm looking at buying is the T9550 cpu since it is a good boost and not to costly. It sucks that you need to remove the whole back panel, oh well.

    Thanks for the info :)

Well, I managed to overclock the X9100 up to 3.6   GHz for the moment (using throttlestop and the multiplier), with a voltage of 1.2625 V, but the temperatures are splashed from 81/82 ° C to 91/94 ° C, really too high, but 'the performance increase a lot'. In any case, maybe tomorrow or after tomorrow I will try to overclock the X9100 via the FSB and then we'll see how far we can get .. :D :D

I'm also sticking to the official one as the modded gives me no benefit because I do not do overclock as well. You can overclock your GPU with any BIOS by the way. Getting a T9550 will maybe give you a awesome ROM to FSB overclock if you can peak the voltage at 1.170, but then you say you don't want to overclock, oh well :)

Feel free to ask if there is anything! Don't forget to use a good thermal paste and maybe test your heatsink if you have some time to spare. Are your tempratures okay?

I'm actually more intrested if you can get the FSB stable at 1333Mhz by lowering your multiplier on CPU first.. I would rather run my CPU at 2.90Ghz-ish and 1333Mhz FSB rather then a CPU at 3.60Ghz with 1066Mhz FSB.

Don't forget to loose your timings on RAM modules a little bit. If you can get it stable, this can be the reason for me to buy a X9100 and sell my T9900.

    I'm waiting for your results!!

Still too lazy to drive like 10 mins and get my parts, hopefully tomorrow I'll get it back and running!

My cpu been running at 54C constantly and gpu goes from 47c at idle and 57g-63c while playing World of Warcraft at "good" setting. I put artic silver on the cpu and gpu. Before I added the thermal compound my laptop would over heat and shut down.

You have done a pretty good job there. I guess your heatsink is still very good then since you have such a good tempraturs... Have you done any other mods? Like removing the white wire from FAN and force it to 100% all the time?

I havnt removed the white wire, Ill do that next. How do you remove it? Do you cut it or does it unplug.

Dl a different temp monitor and looks like this one registers my temp little higher. Im going to try it on while playing a game.

Ok, I been playing wow at ultra setting for over 20min and cpu ranges from 56-86c using real temp gt 3.60. Gpu temp topped out at 71c.

I want to upgrade my 5739g's T6600 to T9550 for, maybe better gaming performance. Since it costs me much to afford a new chip, I wonder if there are any noticeable boost in gaming performance when replacing a T6600 with a T9550. Especially to whoever owns a 5739g equipped T9550 chip, please help me, friends.
