    So fellas...

Today (even if new fan didnt arrive yet) I installed my T9900
I also tested the heatpipes with hot water, they both work well...
Cleaned fan + Rills very well, then carefully applied thermal compound with only little, but with whole die covered...
    built the thing back together...

It works, I began to start Prime95 max heat + rthdribl 2.0 maxed out....
my laptop would make it for about 4-5mins then shutting down. :(

It stands on an even wood table....

After rebooting I made this screenshot under the load of P95+rthdribl again, but only let it run for 1min...but look yourself....matching temperatures are same colored

I dont know what I can do else... :(

    Edit:

BTW it didnt shut down with any temperature on 105°C ....can it be that it shuts down on my old procs Tjmax (90 or 95C)? Shall I reinstall BIOS or delete CMOS?

    Edit2:

    Reinstalling BIOS changes nothing...

Strange, it must shut down, when reaching 105C. It can be an error in processor. hope, that it is not.

New about my processor: I` ve applied new thermalpaste - Arctic Silver 5. Max temperature in 100% load now is only 78C. It is very, very good result for me. :)

what should be wrong with the proc?

how did you apply the paste? i cleaned both surfaces VERY well with alcohol, then I applied a little drop of paste on the die and with the corner of a plastic card I spread it until the die was covered....

BTW: apparently, the THRM reading for the JM50, isnt the actual northbridge temp, isnt it? So what are these 3 Temps for the Proc, I dont really understand that...
its seems the laptop shuts down around 95-96°C on the THRM reading

EDIT: just did something uncommon. I went out with my laptop, air temperature is about 5°C, idle temps were 32°C on Hwmonitor and 27°C on coretemp (just HWmonitor-5°C). THRM reading was about 38-39°C. Then started rthdribl and prime95 max heat....it did it for ca. 10-15mins... then it shut down again.
But now I can say, it will shut down 0,5-1sec after 96°C THRM reading...

this is kinda pi**ing me off.. :( Actually I think about selling it again, whats a faster system when it will shut down after no time...
on my p7450 I ran p95 and rthdribl more that 2 hours (and could even run as long as I want) that was in summertime (30°C air!!).....

It can be a bad temp. controller in the CPU.

About 3 temps: for example, in Everest:

    1. CPU
    2. Core 1
    3. Core 2

About applying thermal paste on the CPU - you`ve done everything right. Is your cooler clean?

yes the cooler is fine... even cleaned the rills with water and little soap (of course washed it with clean water after it)...i know thats a bit unorthodox, but they were as clean as new after it... also removed all the dust from the fan
btw I didnt damage the heatpipe by that...the heatpipe works just fine...proved with hot water and also the heatpipe is on full cpu load evenly hot, so it works...
also using thermal paste similar to arctic silver 5

...what are your hwmonitor temps on full load?

just found a new program, IntelBurnTest, maybe some of you can get it and post results on maximum here...

my laptop wont even make it for 10secs on maximum lol

    EDIT:
just noticed, under p7450 the thrm reading and the core1/2 readings are near (max 2-4K difference) + max fan speed is only after some minutes and if then also just for a short time

The cooling solution it's designed for a 25W TDP cpu(p7450), don't expect 2 keep a 35W TDP CPU at resonable temperatures. (excepting the ~25W GPU)
My 5739g reach at ~70-72 degrees @cpu&gpu(prime&furmark) without a coolerpad and with AS Matrix thermal grease.
+ The fan is quite cramped and he need's to suck air from the vents across the casing.

L.E. better buy a new notebook.. with newer SB 2'nd gen CPU and GT540M GPU
If you want gaming and portability.. else.. get a PC for Christ sake.

actually, there were also procs like the t6600 built in this laptop, and they also have a 35W TDP! but if you look on google youll find many examples where the laptop shuts down on t6600 due to overheat
I just think the cooling of this laptop is kinda crap and only good for PXXXX series with 25W TDP, acer kinda failed here... (even if it is a laptop which means its very cooling-critical)

    u also have a P7450?

you are complete right...the laptop would loose its portability...also I would primary need new hardware for gaming...
and I really overestimated the T9900...even if only-CPU tasks run alot better, the effect on game FPS is (depending on game) minimal, differences you wont feel actually
NVIDIA GeForce GT 240M video card benchmark result - Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T9900,Acer JM50-MV score: P2588 3DMarks
NVIDIA GeForce GT 240M video card benchmark result - Intel Core 2 Duo Processor P7450,Acer JM50-MV score: P2489 3DMarks
best would be waiting until intel releases the successor of core i series..until then my gt240m with my p7450 (stable running system) would be best, its really not worth it to upgrade with expensive components...

I think I'll sell my T9900 again, if anyone is interested -->PM

anyway, thanks for the support guys

For example i don`t agree with you about minimum additional FPS in gaming with T9900. I have had T6600 before X9100. I can see big difference between these two CPU in gaming and in powerfull programms, such as Engineering Base, LabVIEW, Mathlab or AutoCAD.

About temps: I don`t use the HVMonitor, I use Everest and RMclock - in everest, now maximum temperature, that I reached, is only 76 - 81. For this processor and notebook with his bad cooling system it is a very good result, I think. BUT, I`ve made undervolt from 1.2375V to 1.0875V. That helps too.

My old T6600 was not so hot, as my new one CPU and it never shuted down because of overheating.

What I recomend: do undervolt for your CPU, use Arctic Silver 5 ( 8.7W thermal conductivity) or Arctic Cooling MX- 4 ( 8.5W thermal conductivity ) and use heatsinks, such as Zalman RH. In addition you can cut a white wire of your cooler - he will spin in 100% like crazy all the time, but is too loud, as I think.

Strange points you have i 3dMark - my scores are more than 7000. o_O

Does anybody know something additional about Radeon M5950? Can`t fidn any usefull information about it in internet.

Sorry for my bad english. :D

hm.. thermal paste is very well (9,4W/mK)
    wont cut wire..

    u really used 3mark vantage? not 06

    will undervolting bring that much?

I use 3DMark06. It is big differens between 06 and non 06?

Yes, undervolting will drop temperatures, because our motherboard gives maximum of voltage on CPU by default.

The people that sold me my M5950 told me I could have 10% off since it was wrongly advertised or I could send it back for a full refund. I asked for an exchange. I ran 3dmark06. It ran at 1280x768, and I received a score of 8483. In comparison, CROSSFIRE_GTI posted that his 6770M with GDDR5 scored 10774 at the same resolution. I'll let you know what the guys do for me with my GDDR3 card.

Hey!! So GTI thanx for giving a try and starting a GTX460 : )
bernida try to put a radiator on the chipset a small one or anythink you ANYTHING just to spread the heat.
Stick it with a thermalglue or somethink.
Since my T9550 is unstable at 333FSB (3,33GHz) and the Samsung Ram 1066 (oc 1333) i get a P8600 and managed to get nice 333FSB fully stable(3GHz) tested with IBT temp max 90/87 little bit high - have to get more compound.
And bernida your notebooka is shutting down when stressing it only or what?
If yes then its a temp problem = undervolt or I don't know? Maybe change the thermalpaste and heatsink or fan. Whan playing games is happens too?

I found a GTS250M for about 50$ with delivery : ) have to get one of these.
    My GT240M gets 8,5k in 3DMark 06 OC'ed to 670/1475/970 and T9550 on 3,33GHz. Maybe i will get >10k with the GTS? :)

Also i bought a Acer netbook realy cheap one about 130$ with N270,1GIG,120HDD, GMA950 :) Love to play with this crap haha

And i always replace the cpu without taking the whole laptop apart.......
Such a waste of time IMHO. You can get it easier then just lifting the heatpipe and replace it easily... It takes about 1min the whole proces. And theres no problem to clear the core and the heatsink just take a handky and clear it.

    OK

    LATER!!!

As always sorry for my english!!!

yes, siwtching the proc this way (lifting heatpipe) hasnt any effect on the temps (if heatpipe surface was cleaned well and thermal paste new)...made no difference

i dont want to mod the laptop so it will be stationary, want it as portable as was..., so no cutting and building fans in.

yes, even when gaming, it will randomly shut down (I even put the laptop on a rack which gives an angle and free air circulation under laptop)

just as i said: intelburntest: T9900: down after 10secs, P7450: I was bored after 30mins, fan didnt run 100%, only for short times. and this on plane wood (no good air circulation)

and BTW i used 3d mark vantage NOT '06, vantage is optimized for vista/7

I dont said that you should build in a fan or cut somethink out.
Theses some place in the casing and you have to cool down the chipset...
Maybe T9900 is just to hot for your notebook but some guys were running the T9900 without these problems....

    Try somethink like this out:

What is temp1/acpi temperature on?! NorthBridge or something about power supply?!

Rather use this 2 keep the SB cool.. [IMG]

This is a good thing for overall cooling!
I have a friend with a HP notebook.. damn.. that thing is a hotplate. Aldo the fan intake air directly from outside and he has the GT104M(and the t6600) he has problem with CPU temperatures. Because the fan intake air directly from outside his HDD heats up the palmrest, memory is quite hot to.. not quite pleasant.
Last summer I've changed his NB blower because operating at maximum speed he jammed.

I think that GT240M performance are limited by p7450. NFS The Run. max 20 fps :D AND GPU load was max 60%.. That translates by a CPU bottleneck.

well, i dont really think this can be solved by adding this coolers...
maybe it will be primestable (but also maybe limited to some minutes) but if its gonna shut down after 15secs (!) with intelburntest i dont think this will change it

    How can you overvolt/undervolt?

seems like highest vcore for p7450 AND t9900 is 1.1375V why wont it go higher? the cpus have a higher spec

how much can u undervolt it? how to test stability?

    EDIT:

got some new eyecandy for ya (lol):

    P7450 25W TDP (!)
    after ~10mins
laptop on even wooden table, room temperature
2nd pic was some minutes later with p95 off

    1) Read last 4-5 pages, i written about heatsinks and lowered temperatures.
    2) To undervolt or overvolt your CPU you must use RMClock utility. In this programm you have to change power management from in Profiles.
    3) To test stability you have to stress your CPU as maximum, as possible, for example, by Everest or IBT. If it is stable in new voltage, than you can drop it again. If it is not stable - rise your voltage a bit. Here you must find stable lowest voltage. For example, for my X9100 3.06 GHz lowest and stable voltage is 1.087V. But was 1.235V by default. With default voltages maximum temp. was 105 C ( after 30 sec of stress CPU ) - shut down of overheating. WIth this voltages - 89 C. With new thermal paste ( Arctic Silver 5 ) and FULLY cleaned thermal system before putting new thermal paste and with 3 additional heatsinks on CPU cooling plate highest temp. now is only 76-81. It is a very good result - cooler doesn`t spin anymore like crazy.

From the practical point of view none of your measurments, which are on screens you posted, can be the truth. It depens on programm, that your are using to monitor tour temp., depends on its code and depends on version of programm. My old Everest shows me from -5 to +120C for Pentium IV. Latest version - normal temperatures. :)

    Sorry for my english. :D

lol..the temps were always like that
believe it or not, this is the truth

btw hwmonitor is a program also tunay uses, for example... also coretemp works well
any other programs (everest, speedfan,....) show the same readings...
all are latest... this is just it

    LOLWUT!

    sry 4 doublepost

just got this baby undervolted from 1.25V to 1.0625V (just thought of some nice value) and its not even going further than 80°C on prime95 (now stable on 77 since 3mins) on THRM reading!
    stable so far, lets see!

    awesome thing...

how can i test how far i can go down with that vcore? if its too low will it just bluescreen/shutdown away or what? or will it produce errors (on prime/burntest) before?

PS: just running intelburntest since 5mins stable (remember it didnt even run 15secs before) with a THRM of 87°C (maybe it will max out on 90), but this is a very nice value for me, even the p7450 went to 90/91 on intelburntest

guys, undervolting is the key for your stable running laptop :)

EDIT: that screenshot is crap. forgot to set the multiplier to 11.5 xD will test it again and tell you

As i said - undervolting will solve your problem with overheating. ;) The easyest way to check, is your OS stable on this voltage, just stress your CPU with Everest or another stressing CPU programm. If your notebook don`t shutdown, don`t freeze or don`t shows BSOD, that means, that on this voltage your CPU stable. using this method, you will find a lowest voltage, with wich your CPU will be stable.

Most comon situation, if voltage level is not at needed level - your OS just freeze. If so, rise voltage a bit.

I`ve found HD6770m on this site. On ebay this Video Card costs 559.99 $. But here is only 210$ ? What could it be - truth or not?

I`ve searched information about this card - in notebookcheck and some other sites there is written, that in games this card shows less performance, than 6770m on 10-15%. But in professional programms it shows better performance because of professional drivers. I`ll think of buying this card, instead of 6770m.

I've got bad news. The guys over at waresphere are out of GDDR5 M5950's. All they have left are GDDR3 variant. They offered my partial refund and I keep the card or a full refund and I send it back. I decided to accept the partial refund as it runs cooler than my 4670.

Hello guys, I'm not dead yet ;)

The reason for your shutdowns are not the CPU. It is the Northbrige itself. I've had the same problem with every CPU. The Chipset does not tackle the Prime95 for some reason. But then again, I've NEVER got a shutdown in realworld, like gaming or so. The copper shim does not work, do not even waste your time on it. Neither does suggest VGA copper that were suggested few pages back.

I've ordred a new GPU to get it running again, but not recived anything yet.

I've did a second fan mod, I don't know if I've told you that. But it only lasted for few hours because the backplate did not fit. I had to raise my laptop about one cm. It didn't look really good. But the FAN was directly pointing at the Northbrige with eliminiated the shutdown error. It were able to do a prime95 run for 15 minutes before I've cancled it.

I dont know if this is still correct...

Like you, tunay, I also thought the THRM reading must be something with the Northbridge (as its mentioned as Chipset temp) and as it shuts down on 96C, I also thought it might be Northbridge overheating. I was Primestable for 2mins lol
    BUT:
Undervolting my CPU from 1.25V to 1.05V did directy affect the THRM temp, now I'm Primestable (canceled after 20min, THRM <=87C)
So what should be the relation between CPU voltage and Northbridge load?

So it also would be really interesting to know for me, as my system is still not stable on Furmark+Prime95

Less voltage usage -> Less stress on the northbrigde -> Less heat.

There is litteraly no other way around this. I hope I recive my GPU soon so I can actually try it out myself. But, lastly, I cannot remember having this issue. And as I said, it does not happend under real world usage, only with Prime95. Bernida, why don't you try to play games etc. and see if the same happends? There is no point torturing your laptop with Prime95. Those are very rare overload cases. And as I've mentioned, I did not have this issue while gaming back in days.

    Oh, I forgot to mention

Gaming --> no issues, THRM is always 87C max., also fan not always running 100%

But still I want to find this out...why should there be more stress on the northbridge when u just raise the CPU voltage? CPU wont run faster with less voltage...Or does it indirectely affect the voltage on the northbridge chip? (...which is nowhere shown to us)

    BTW:

some days ago my new fan was shipped. They send me an green-sticker-ADDA one! (is was actually declared as the sunon fan, they had the sunon model number and sunon pictures of the fan, no mentioning of ADDA)
I can only recommend this seller therefore (even if shipping took ages)
    ebay link is here

On stock voltage, does your laptop shut down? It should not do that, therefore, if you ask me you should leave the voltage and the Prime95 alone.

When you're at stock voltage obiviusly the Northbrige have more stress on it.

Also, I dubt your T9900 will spike at 1.25. They usually cut out at 1.175.
My jumps sometimes at 1.25 for a second or two. That is random, no matter what the CPU is doing at the very moment.

However, if your laptop shuts down at gaming while everything is at defualt then I would look for a workaround, if not, just leave it.

Wait, you wanted the ADDA fan?

Ok, my mobo will give the T9900 permanentely 1.25V on stress, and this thing is a melting little sprite then..

It wont run stable on anything then + fan always 100% even with half stressed or so
So yes it will shut down on that stock 1.25V on "normal" stress (like gaming), but only randomly after some time.

But on 1.05V, everything is fine now.

    To the fan:
No, even if all ppl tell ADDA is better, I only found an adda for 40$ or such..
So I accepted the fact that I might only get a sunon for very less money, took the cheapest sunon one I could find (the one in the link) but they send me an ADDA one.
    Thats kinda a win-win-situation^^

That is strange, I've tried so hard to get mine to 1.25 in order to be able to run 333Mhz stable.

However, if it is stable now it is nothing to worry about. And infact undervolt gives you nothing but only better battery life while running on battery. Which is good. I'll look more into this when I get my GPU.

I've got now the GTS250M and I'm disappointed.
I'd overclock the gpu to 550/1300/1030 for 3Dmark 06 and it scored 9899p.
Hmm not bad for a 5739g but i thought it will reach without problem at least >10k. The temps are very similar like the GT240M about 80MAX in furmark and about 70°C in games. Anybody wants the GT240M?
The GTS250M overclocks really poorly from 450/1080/790 to 530/1272/1000 and I can't see any difference in-game. Seems like the Vgpu is max 0.9V tried to change it with nibitor. Any sugesstions?

Is that with T9550 at stock or 333Mhz?

    On 333 of course.
    The GT240M oc scored on 333 8500p
    The GTS250M OC scored on 333 9899p.

    Wow.

I get around 8,2-8,3k on my stock 266 fsb gt240+t9900, but OCed the gt240m (see in signature)

weird thing is, I can push memory to max available setting (945) stable, but my gpu wont go higher than the values below without crashes
    max temp is around 74C+-

The FSB does not make that much difference. You can possibly get the same with good overclock on GPU.

nah not really, I already maxed that out.
As I said, Memory is at max possible setting through driver, only thing to increase now would be core/shader
The next possible increment on core/shader will run instable: 663/1458
as I said next 663/1458 will crash in furmark after ~20mins and while gaming this setting also crashed several times

actual 658/1446 --> no problems, proved through several hours of gaming + furmark xtreme ~1h, Tmax=74°C

I guess the chip on my card just wont go any higher, maybe got a monday-one ;)

Your overclock seems actually pretty stable to me. It is well balanced. You can do some memory timings tweaks and OS tweaks if you really want that last bit. But only do that if you know what you're doing..

Hey iM bacKK once more. SO i originally had the best result with a T9600 (T9900 is better) and a 6770M. That absolutely KILLED any game on 720p except BF3. I got 40 frames on LOW cause of CPU and GPU. but for other things it was Perfect.

    Hello! ;)

    Which GPU are you using?
    Which CPU do you have?

I asume, that you have T6600? For this CPU this temperature is very good even on load. :)

    hey elajits
    welcome to the forum

could you get hwmonitor and let it run while gaming? there is a THRM reading in this program, could you tell us the max reading of the THRM value?

also max THRM on prime95/linpack ( intelburntest) would be nice to know

    what GPU do you have?
