wow, nice
your temps are very good -
Hey, finally I got my fan, I must say that is not bad, in fact, this works 100% ... Now I have to do some testing, but at first glance it seems that the maximum temperatures are decreased by approximately 5 ° C, while lows appear to be identical (perhaps a little higher)
-
I'm still waiting for my new GPU so I can start using it again. It is currently dead, stored far away.
But to be clear, do you want pictures from the motherboard and stuff?
Not much tou..
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
I'm very surprised you are still waiting since it was sent 1st class :/
-
I'm suprized myself. No idea why it is taking so long.
If it does not arrive within next week I think I'll have to check again. The issue is when you don't have a tracking number they have to check every package manually as they can't search by name. However, I'm pretty sure it is on it's way and everything will be fixedI'll let you know the moment it arrives
-
-
I've did take a look at it now and looks like brand new!!
I'll post some pictures when I the GPU and it is ready for action again.. Remind me if I do forget however... -
tunay what gpu did you buy? a 6770m?
yeah also would really like to see the pics -
No, I got a GT 240M or something I think. I don't know really, Meaker?
-
so it it was a 240m, can you tell if its GDDR3 or GDDR5, cause mine is unfortunately GDDR3
also it would be nice to know how other 240Ms will overclock stable...if you plan to OC it
dont forget the pictures -
-
I do not think I'll have any time for overclock. Don't know even when I'm going to install the card.

Hi everyone,
A long time lurker of this forum. I have finally taken the plunge and decided to upgrade my 5739g (240m) instead of buying a low-end new gen laptop. I am going from 4GB of ram to 8GB, T6600 to a T9600, stock fan to ADDA green label fan, and stock HD to 320GB 7200RPM HD. I feel that most of the technical questions I have have already been answered but lastly, I still have a few that need some guidance.
1. Has anyone tried to replace their LCD cover with a matte cover/sticker/full replacement? Mine has been scratched and dented from carrying it around in my backpack.
2. Has anyone found an alternative for the rubber foots on the bottom cover?
3. Where can I find a cheap heatpipe replacement? I believe mine has died.
Thank you in advance. -
hi and welcome to the forum
good luck on your upgrades, they should be no problem if you know how to dis/reassemble you laptop properly
to 3.
basically a heatpipe is not dying in a slow process...it works one day and if it stops working then it does it immediately.....meaning it works or does not. dont know how familiar you are in disassembling the laptop..but if you can grab the heatpipe out you can test it very well with boiling water..simply hold one end into the water and in a matter of some seconds the other end should get hot/warm...then you can be sure its working...if it would not work it would take like a minute to get hot at the other end.
of which heatpipe are you talking btw? the gpu/nothbridge one or the cpu one?
I think I can say that ACER really wasted up the whole cooling system of this laptop. To be honest, it's crap.
I can give you 2 programs, with which every 5739g (with Txxx cpu, but also P7450 will maybe, if heatsink/fan not cleaned well) will shut down due to overheating (if with back cover on and no mods, ofc^^)
So thinking the heatpipe is damaged is very likely but indeed its hardly the case. The cooling system is just poor
The only things you can do is to always keep the heatpipe rills and the fan clean and you can undervolt your cpu
BTW for all who say that overheating is an issue of the 15.6" laptops: my bro got a new lenovo 15.6" gaming laptop and with that furmark+linpack on it it wont even go higher than 70C (on any temp) which is 30C less than my 5739g, they really did a great job on the cooling system
btw² you can get acer spare parts here but they are very expensive there...try to search on ebay, sometimes there are some offerings
PS: on my laptop, the ADDA green sticker fan was stock -
Hi, tunay!
Can you post the pics, or are they not ready yeat? -
No, still not got my GPU. But you can get pictures without a GPU if you want?
-
-
That is cool. I can do that tomorrow. I have a lot of work and stuff going on now. So, I'm kinda offline. I've also replaced my main laptop with a Mac now, as you can see in my signature... Lovin' it!
But there is nothing special anymore to be honest inside my laptop... But, I'll post pictures. -
mac, apple
...seriously, are you kidding me?
R.I.P. good old Acer! -
Hehe, I was like you about half a year earlier. But things have changed....
I do not have any time to spare any more as I did when I bought my ACER just for fun, and upgrade it. I have no longer time for reinstalling Windows if it goes down or something goes funky. No longer time to take my ACER apart and repast it, or do new mods... Yeah, you get the point.
I was the max anti-apple guy you could find in Norway. And I'm still hating some of it, but all in all, the machine is a wonderful piece of technology. On maximum powersaver I get bout 9-10 hours of battery life!! That is one day for me, I charge it only at nights and when I'm at work. My life is 100% based on a working computer now, and I'm using my Mac for more then 10 hours a day, I can clearly say that.
My Acer is still working, but I'm waiting for the new GPU. I think I'll save the Acer of course, and use it as my Windows machine. But the Mac will from now on be my travel buddy I think.
About 90% of my friends use iPhone, and my Mac allows me to use FaceTime from my Mac to any iPhone or basically i Device. This say, I'm no longer using Skype, because Apple basically re-invented IM.
I'm having a startup time of just 7 seconds now, that is pretty close to my Acer, but the whole build quality feeling is different, all in all it is a whole different story.
I'll still be with you guys as I'm loving my Acer. But as I said, I have limited time for the forums right now, to be precise, the only forum I'm active at. This. -
Hello, is anyone else having this issue?
Nvidia just released 295.73 drivers, but with the new driver, I get a blank screen after the normal windows7 boot screen (not black, backlight is off)...also HDMI or VGA port wont work...windows seems to start up in the background normally...all sounds work, and if I type in my password blindly, it also makes the sound and start windows up...driver seems to be buggy...
Only thing you can do is go into Safemode, deinstall it and reinstall the old 285.62...
@tunay: well, ok I understand you...have a lot of fun with your apple
EDIT: it has something to do with the monitor. in the device manager, no pnp monitor is shown when booting in safe mode (on old drivers it is) so it is likely that you can see nothing...but how to fix this?
btw Acer updated video drivers last month but its old crappy 187.71 drivers...
this isnt the end so I cannot use nvidia drivers anymore, isnt it? -
-
Campi and Bernida - I don`t have such problem.
I have another - after reinstalling windows 2-3 weeks ago, my notebook freezes sometimes. The only thinf, that can help me in this situation is turning off the computer using the power button. Version of windows is - clean 7 Ultimate x64.
-
I hate to say this, but it could be some old junk from your previous drivers... I have not seen anything like you report Bernida, so I have no idea...
And, thank you, I'll -
I'm having the same Nvidia driver problem (5739g with win7 home premium x64) I have tried the clean install option but same result, safe mode and roll back gets me out of it but Nvidias control panel keeps telling me of this amazing update I'm missing out on... shame really. Check for updates switched off and I await anyone that can give a clue as to how to fix it
-
@tunay: (of course^^) I also thought it might result from some old drivers so I cleaned all nvidia related stuff but it was still the same...
BTW nvidia is updating its drivers on the fly which means you dont even have to restart your pc nor deinstall any drivers by yourself (proved on my brothers laptop and on previous updates)
To describe the driver process more precisely:
-Old drivers active
-you start the downloaded EXE, it unpacks and starts
-first thing is it says uninstalling previous version, after that your screen goes 640x480 (was always like that)
-then it says installing new drivers
-at the time when it normally should switch back to your previous resolution (1366x768 in my case) it blacks out and does nothing, even if you wait until next morning
-the problem is not that it would use an unsupported res. : if you press f8 while bootup and select start in 640x480, its still not fixed
-with the new driver, the pnp-monitor in device manager is gone (no monitor there) --> windows 7 safe mode -
i use the driver with clean win 7 64 bit >>> blackscreen
-
Just confirming the Black screen issue. I used driver sweeper, I did a clean install and could not get it working.
Thread in nvidia forums.
Driver installation fails for Verde drivers - NVIDIA Forums -
We'll, I mean you'll have to wait for an update from nVidia then...
-
i hope theyll fix it cause it would really suck if they discontinue support for the good old 5739g :/
-
on acer site you can find 3311 BIOS, says they fixed RTC_RST issue. Whats that?
did anyone yet use this, are there any changes?
Still nothing new from nvidia for 295.73 issue -
-
I have had my Acer for a few years and the fan just recently started making this rattling/grinding noise. It sounds like it is loose or something may have broken off of it. What is the easiest way to find out what it is?
-
Hello mps8403, and welcome to the NBR!!!
Well, the easiest way for you would be to take of the back cover… You get a view on the fan, and I'm sure you'll be able to figure out what's wrong, but to replace it, you'll have to take the whole laptop apart.
Let me know if you need further assistance with this... -
I did take the back cover off, but you can only see a small portion of the fan, and I can't see anything wrong with it. Should I try taking it all apart myself or have an expert do it?
-
It depends really, have you ever taken a laptop apart? If not, this isn't the easiest laptop to take apart, but not the hardest either… Just keep things organized, and I think it will be okay actually...
-
I have taken this laptop apart, partially. I stopped because I didn't trust myself with the rest without the manual or having someone else here who knows the proper way to do it. I am going to find the manual for this laptop and look it over and try it, I will let you know how it goes.
-
It is pretty easy if you have done it before… Just be careful to remove all the screws that is necessary and connections...
-
just a little update on the nvidia 295.73 thing, they seem to be working on it regarding to the official post:

Gotta love nVidia!

I am currently waiting on my new (green label) fan to arrive in order to install it, install my T9600 (replacing a T6600), clean and re-apply thermal paste, overclock 240m GPU, and possibly install radiators (or do a cooper shim mod). Earlier today I installed 2x4GB PNY DDR3 1066 MHZ RAM sticks. My system easily recognized the upgraded memory. After flashing the modded BIOS, I followed this guide to apply the "optimal settings" for overclocking in addition to enabling the option to run memory at 667 MHZ. I believe that the speed of my RAM sticks are currently running at 1333MHZ [(5/3)*800] and their timings are 5-5-5-15.
The WEI subscore for my system's memory is a 5.7 (would have thought it'd be higher). It was at a 6.3 when my RAM sticks were running at 1066 MHZ and their timings were 6-7-7-24 (for whatever reason, my CL wasn't 7). WEI isn't too reliable but I would like to see some improvement.
I haven't overclock my CPU nor have I done any bench tests or taken temperature readings as I do not have a fully "upgraded" 5739g yet.
Any comments would be helpful as I am fairly new at this process. I attached a .jpg just in case anyone wants further information.
Thank you in advance.
EDIT: I ran MemTest overnight, woke up to see 50 errors. Any thoughts?
EDIT2: Seems that MemTest reads my RAM sticks as DDR2, I reverted the option in bios to set RAM at 667MHZ and now MemSet reads DDR2 still but at 400 MHZ, I'll try some googling to figure this out but any help is welcomed.Attached Files:

My memtest86 reads my RAM as DDR2 too. It is just a bug, I think. In other programms, such as aida, CPU-Z and so on, my RAM is identificated as DDR3.
50 errors? O_O Do you tried to set your RAM to stock clocks and timings and run memtest again?
tunay, hello!What`s about photos?
-
I assume that the stock timings are the ones displayed under the timings table in CPU-Z. I will revert them back to that. I will also revert SetFSB.
Throughout the forum I see that people have modified their timings from 7-7-7-20 to 7-x-x-2x. The timings that I see with CPU-Z and MemSet are 6-6-6-18 with a DRAM frequency of 400MHZ and 1:2 ratio and I have thus changed it to 6-x-x-2x. I again do not know if this is a big deal.
Moreover, I am now playing with ThrottleStop. As mentioned before, any type of guidance is welcomed.
EDIT: I would like to know if it is possible to change my RAM frequency from 400mhz to 533mhz (I have ddr3-1066 sticks installed) without overclocking my CPU. That might be the cause of having different timings as everybody else.
EDIT2: I see that my RAM frequency is underclocked automatically to 400mhz in order to get the 1:2 ratio. I am still confused about my timings though. Sorry for all of my questions but this is something I would like to learn and know how to do, it is pretty interesting. -
I`m sorry, but I can`t tell anything usefull in questions of RAM timings.

Hi everyone. Like the rest of you I have an aspire 5739G.
At the moment I'm trying to figure out why my computer freezes at random. The only clue I have to go on is that it freezes most often when I play a video on youtube.
At first I thought it was my graphics card... but I can play starcraft 2 with no issues.
I thought it might by a virus or malware... but AVG and Malwarebites have turned up nothing.
I've thought it might be software maintenance but using Powersuite I have cleaned up the registry and updated my drivers.
Then I thought it might be my RAM. But using windows Memory Diagnostic it said it was fine.
So now I think it might be a heating issue... the problem is I don't know the normal temp levels this PC should have.
Using PC wizard it shows my temp around 45 C ~53 C. Is that too high a temperature?
Any help is welcome and greatly appreciated... as you might be able to tell I'm at my wit's end on this. -
When you useP2P client (utorrent,BitComet ) does your computer freezes? I had this issue, when I was using latest drivers for my LAN card in time of downloading something, using utorrent, or watching large videos on youtube. -
edit: Ok I've downloaded bitcomet... but I'm not sure what it does..... can you tell me what action I should do on it to "test" my computer the way you wanted me to?
