    Hi ;-)

I can get an acer 5739G-664G32MN (T6600 / 240m gt / 320gb HDD etc) for 200€ should I buy it? It is second hand but its looks decent.

Depends on what you need it for. Seems like not much of an upgrade compared to your acer 5520g.

    @Avora

sorry, i cannot help you with your problem, but i got a question regarding your gpu: Did you just have to change graphic cards or did you change heatsink/fan as well? I´ve ordered a 6770m, too, but still don´t know how to change my gpu :D

I installed the wrong os and the drivers and support tools are all gone. i downloaded and installed a knock off version of windows home premium, but still nothing. I cant go on the internet and the wireless network adapters are gone -God knows what else is missing. what should i do? lookin at the install now the display seems a little stretched.

MXM is a standard, so positions of memory and gpu-die are the same

    @Avora

did the problem occur after installing the GPU or the CPU?
maybe try to flash your BIOS again...
    What is your VCore?
Unfortunately, there is no way to control fan speed via any software.

One option of solving this problem - cutting a white wire, that is connected to a fan and motherboard. It make rotate fan on the maximum speed for all time - but it will be loud.

Another option - it can be broken connection of this white wire.

In addition you can re-flash your BIOS with standard 3310 version.

I haven't actually had windows installed with any of the other components. I ran a live boot of Xubuntu to check the existing hardware. And the fan was just the same then.

I'm also having a right nightmare with the 6770m drivers. ATI thinks there's no "Proper Hardware connected" or something similar. Found an old driver with CCC 11.2 which installed fine.

Installing the graphics card is simple. 4 screws and the card pops up. Remove any old paste and apply some new, push the new card in and screw it back. The processor was more awkward, but I managed.

I have just noticed now actually, after the CPU gets hot, the fan does actually come on properly when the temps come back down. But wouldn't want that in a gaming situation. May have to cut the wire. Don't worry, I know how to use a soldering Iron, if I need to reconnect it.

I have also put the latest standard BIOS on to the machine. No difference also. Think that the motherboard temp sensor is to blame here actually. But never mind. I haven't changed my Voltages anywhere as yet. I wanted to see how the P8700 managed first.

EDIT: I have done some more. Ran up in Ubuntu and it seemed to work fine. Although it overheated and shut down. So I have cut the cable. Fan runs flat out as expected. Just want to know now if I could run the fan on reduced voltage fine? Would be interested in installing a Potentiometer which could be placed on the bottom cover so I can choose my fan speed. Will explore some more options like simulating the PWM from the motherboard, as thats definitely to blame. Temporarily just very loud now.

Hello, after some time, even I'm back on this forum :D :D . also I am interested to radeon hd6770 (the 240m gt sucks) .... For anyone who owns it, I would like to do some questions: First of all, How work the hd6770?, are there any real differences from the 240? And in games, how it go? Temperatures are higher than the 240?Coupled with the C2D x9100, do you believe that could give some kind of problem?
    Thanks in advance :D

Ok, new issue. I'm seeing the Bios flashing problem, GPU-z sees the file size as 128Kb, but all ones available on TechPowerUp are 64Kb. Even the original Dell Bios which this card is. Possible that the seller from China put the wrong size Bios file on my card? Would it still even work ? Would explain the stupid driver problems I have been having. Will try to flash from a DOS usb later on. But this is becoming a pain.
If anyone with a 6770m could get a copy of their bios from GPU-z and tell me the size that would be great.

EDIT Correction, don't try to flash a smaller BIOS, had to reflash the original BIOS blind. Phewww. Still confused why its being odd with me though. I shall continue to modify this existing BIOS. By the way, anyone who is interested in this card. The temps are fine, never goes above 80 even in Furmark. Just standard settings mind.

As I understand from peoples posts - powerfull CPU plus 6770 - overheating. You ought to have very good thermalpaste (Arctic silver 5 for example) and do undervolt to your CPU. For example, I have the same CPu as you and it works very good on 1.0875V. With overclocked gt240m my notebook don`t overheat.

Maximum temperature of my videocard is 72 C, as I know in our notebooks 6770 heats to 75-85 C.

If you are interested - search couple of pages. I`ve posted the design of copper radiator, that cooles my CPU to 79-81 C at maximum load.

    Thanks in advance. :D

No, nothing at all. Just a completely black screen (aka no signal whatsoever). :(

Ohoh, it seems that I´ve purchased an ATI Radeon 6770m pulled from a Mac. Could this be why it isn´t working?
Anyway, I thought Mac graphics cards would work on a pc as there is just this additional EFI-chunk while also having the usual BIOS files?!

I more than likely has the wrong bios rom.

I had a 4650 in my 5920g that wouldn't boot, turned out I had a weak power supply, got the card replaced and bought a 4.74A charger. Check just in case, took me a while to figure that out.
Also, try reseating the card. Could be a malaligned pin.
Do you see the hard drive light flickering?

    Hi.

One week ago I decided to update my 2,5 year old laptop. Among these updates were a BIOS flash, but unfortunately it failed halfway through. After that I got a bluescreen and were not able to turn it off without taking out the battery and removing the AC cord. When I then tried turning it on lights up and I can't even see the Acer-logo before it shuts down and goes on into an endless loop. I have tried pressing fn+esc while turning it on and then the power led blinks two or three times before it shuts down.

Now I am wondering if my BIOS is corrupt or maybe my RAM doesn't function. Have anyone experienced the same and is it possible to get it working again or is this the end of my laptop?

    Thanks in advance!

Does anyone know if this laptop has a custom Launch Manager out there? I had one for my 5920G which let me choose applications to open with my hotkeys and which button does what etc.

I use Winamp, and hate Media Player, but I also want to use my play/pause etc buttons. Every time I pause or play I get media player pop up. I thought "hahaaa....I'll simply disable media player" which now, just gives me an error every time. Very irritating.

    For winamp.

Options - Preferences - General Preferences - Global Hotkeys.

    For other programms.

There are some options. One of them - you have to write a bot, that calls for you a programm through system registry. Another way - rebind a combinations key`s hex codes on your keyboard. I don`t remember, where it has to be done and how, so, I`m sorry here. In addition you can edit your system registry - one line will interrogate some combinations in some period of time, for example every 10 ms, and, if keys combination is pressed, activates another line of registry - starting some programm or service. Something simmilar to event programming.

    Hay,
im sitting in front of an 5739 and trying to overclock,...
I have the Version with the GT 240m, T6600 and 4GB Samsung 1066Mhz RAM,...
I am running FSB 266 now, but i have a problem.
Yesterday i could set the Voltage of the CPU to 1,25V in ThrottleStop (used 1,2V), but today only 1,15V are availaible...?
And how can i save the Setting of SetFSB, sometimes if i restart it clocks with 266Mhz, but after some Restarts it clocks again at 200Mhz FSB!
One more problem: I`t doesnt`t work every time, sometimes i hit setFSB it simply Freezes ans the default clock is set and if i blueuscreen comes on my Notebook, i knwo it is set to 266Mhz on the next Start.
While the CPU is overclocked @2,9Ghz and 1,2V it can run primestable without problems for hours (so RAM is also fine).

Avora literally just saw this in your SIG

    "Acer 5739G -- P8700, 8GB DDR3 1333Mhz RAM, 120GB Agility 3 SSD, HD 6770m 1GB all standard clocks and voltages so far. Matte display fitted also "

I have a Acer 5739G at the moment with a Intel Pentium duo and a GT240M 1GB, what would the process be fitting the 6770M?

Simply just un install nvidia drivers remove card place 6770m in install AMD drivers then I'm done or? because I hear these cards come with overvolts or something or need a bios update could you give me some more information please?

    Would be much appreciated thanks.

As I remember, if this V-card is 1Gb version, it doesn`t need new v-BIOS. Just install it as new device without other problems.

the integrated SATA controller only supports up to SATA-II (3.0 gb/s)

but you can still install a mini PCI-e ssd in the remaining slot (unless you have the TV tuner installed)

Sorry for the delayed response, I have been busy.

Yes you just whip the old card out (four screws) and the new one in with some Arctic Silver 5 applied, and away you go. I have had bother with ATI's driver download. But just download the files from elsewhere directly.

I have been busy with my fan controller. The temp sensor on the motherboard that appears to stop the fan working right is a mystery. I have simply built a PWM circuit from a 555 timer chip. And mounted it where the spare PCI slot is. I have a manual control over my fan now. So I can run games freely in the knowledge my fan is running constantly. Phewwwww :D Starting to love this laptop. Shame the LCD resolution is crappy.

Anyone know if you can go to a higher resolution or is it not do able? I have wondered with laptops previously but never got around to it.

    propolkin --

I used the circuit provided here High Frequency PWM Fan Controller, although this is supposed to be for 12V, I simply had a play with the values to run on the laptop 5V. I didn't bother with a power smoothing cap, as this supply is what the fan used originally so I'm confident that its ok. Works fine.

Originally had some fan noise at low speed. So changed from a 0.1uF capacitor to a 330pF in the RC timing, this was the best I had available at the time. And now works at a much quieter level. Also I am using a 100K pot, without a resistor across so I can silence the machine when I want.

Bear in mind I have done this quickly, to get my laptop up and running without being super loud as I had previously cut the white wire to the fan. I haven't had the time to show the output on an oscilloscope yet either. So may well be a funny shape wave. Will report back when I get around to it.

Also its a pain at the moment to change the speed because of where I put the potentiometer. I will get around to finding a better solution eventually.

    Hi all,

I've just got my ordered 2x4GB RAM, but it doesn't work: the screen is just black after I turn the machine on. I have the latest BIOS: 3310.
    I have these: Komputerbay 8GB (2x 4GB) DDR3 SODIMM (204 pin) 1333Mhz PC3 10600 8 GB Laptop Memory: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

Should it work? Sorry, but 71 page is a little bit too much to read. Tried to find the answer but wasn't able to.

I'll return it. If I will buy the following instead, will it work?
    RAM Crucial 8GB Kit (4GBx2), 204-pin SODIMM, DDR3 PC3-8500
(It seems to work for MikeMilk)

Or is there a different problem which will prevent the latter from work as well?
    Hope you can help :)

Tried just one slab in at a time? Or a combination of new plus old memory. That should work. I have 8GB installed the same spec memory as per my signature.

On another note, just 3Dmark06'd my laptop. Wow. 9128 was the result (1280 x 768). But the temps as reported by HWmonitor were at max 60 degrees on the CPU. And only 65 on the GPU. Now come on, for a 6770m...that's damn good. Clearly having control of the fan makes a difference.
Wonder how far the 6770m will OC. Could get a good deal closer to the 10k mark if I had a better CPU.

Why would you go backwards? Its a Memrom CPU, so is a larger architecture etc. That means hotter and not as efficient. Just get a cheap P series like mine and you wont ever look back :D

When you buy the memm.sticks for this laptop make sure to work on both timming and mhz on 1066 and 1333 fsb. When you start the laptop the laptop reads the memmorys bios chip and if is not find 1066 bios file is not gona boot. And second make sure when you find memm.sticks that work on this (1066 and 1333 fsb) frequency, and to have almost the same timmings, because when you boot for example on windows at 1066fsb and timmings 7-7-7-26 and use the setfsb to overclock the cpu, automatic is gona go to 1333fsb BUT,because the timmings are different you need to change them with memset, before you use the setfsb. If you dont know youre timmings exacly use the CPUZ to check them on.

Hello, recently, while I was trying to improve the voltages of my X9100, I stumbled upon something very strange, almost impossible I would say. Anyway here's what happened: I was trying the multiplier at 13x on throttlestop with voltage set to 1.2125 V then while doing a stress test of the cpu _ at one point popped out a BSOD and, after restart of the pc I was at 300 mhz fsb ... Unfortunately, few minutes later the fsb dropped down to 289 mhz strange is not it? However, today is my fsb at 289mhz and the cpu is at 3.6 ghz on standard voltages and still can't understand what happened (to be honest is not the first time that happens to me) ... What do you think guys? Take a look at my screenshoot ... Cattura.JPG cpu 2.JPG cpu p.JPG cpu.JPG
EDIT: It seems that the FSB has returned to 300 mhz :eek2: :eek2:...
