    Hi there.

This is my first post on this forum and first of all Id like to thank you all for many ideas and hints about improving my 5739G. So far i installed T9600, 8GB Kingston 1333 RAM, previous HDD in place of DVD drive and ofc Crucial M4 128. My last improovement will be GPU. And here is my quiestion - will this GPU work on my 5739G without any problem?

Hello, qmpel! Welcome to NBR forum! ;)

Interesting version of 6770M. I have never seen that version in internet before. First, notice, that at the holes there is X-type mounting device, that will not allow you to install the card at the notebook - this thing has to be removed before installation. But it is not so easy - it issticked to PCB with good glue-sticker. Second - it seems, that this card has BIOS soldered on the board, but I`m not sure. You should find out from the seller - is this card ROMless or not.

Why did you install T9600? :)

The reason i installed T9600 is that i receiced it for free from my friend who happened to decompose his laptop for parts. But here comes my next question - is there rly that big performance gap between models T9600 and T9800/900? I do not take X version under consideration since i have no need to oc due to overheating tendencies. And about 6770M questions were asked and Im w8ing for answer from seller. And how you compare 6770M to M4000 from your sig, is it worth spending more $ on that GPU? Any reliable seller you could recommend?

About T9600 comparison with T9800/900. Some people says, that at real world the performace difference is obvious. I had onlyused T6600 and X9100 at my notebook. The difference is significant.

About 6770M and M4000. M4000 is built on 7770M chip. That is powerful card, more powerfull than 6770M. M4000 - professional FirePro AMD card optimized for 3D modelling, CADing and so. In addition, it shows great perfromance at the games. In addition, it has very good power-management built-in. The seller, from which I`ve bought that card, don`t have any at stock, but you can ask him dirrectly, here is the link.

Comparing prices - if you don`t want to blow your minde with adding vBIOS into sBIOS, you should buy 6770M or M4000 with ROMchip soldered on it. At that case, both of the cards have approximatelly the same price. So, I would buy M4000 for sure.

Yep, cleaning the fan always helps on preventing of high temperatures. Which thermal-paste you are using?

qmpel, as you are thinking of buying M4000, remember, that this card has mounting system, not suitable for our notebook by default.

As you can see at the picture, mounting holes are occupied with another screw dimensions:

On the other side of card you have to remove this mounting system:

There are some options, how you can do it. First, try regular hair-dryer - heat up that X bracket, than try to pull it up gently from each corner. DON`T use any metallic stuff, such like knife or screwdriver. Maximum use your own fingernails ( :D ) or some plastic tools. Because it is high possibility of scratching the PCB or damaging SMD components. When I was trying to remove that thing from the card, I`ve scratched the PCB - luckily the tracks on PCB were not damaged. And ground your self before any work with such opened and unprotected PCB.

There will be no problems - it should work, but the clock`ll be downclocked to 1066 MHz.

Arctic Silver is non conductive. There's a difference between conductive and capacitive that people somehow can't understand.

I`ve got an idea. Don`t know, if it is possible, but - there are two revisions of PM45 chipsets, IBM and IEM. IEM supports Core 2 Quad and Core 2 Quad Extreme processor, as this is revised version of IBM (firstly IBM was launched, than after month Intel launched IEM version with some fixes). As I know, our notebooks has IBM (first) version of PM45. If I take motherboard of some notebook, that has IEM (second) version and motherboard of 5739G, send both to the specialized service, ask them to replace chipset IEM version to 5739G`s motherboard. Than, the QX9300 should work. Of course, BIOS has to be updated with QX9300 microcode. Does anybody know, if 3311 bios has QX9300 microcode?

It's not only the chipset, there are other "missing" components as well. It involves a lot of desoldering/soldering in order to get everything in line. And that's the theory. It doesn't guarantee 100% working state afterwards :D

I was thinking capacitive, but I was afraid if I would get understand, hence I wrote conductive :) None the less there are plenty of messed PCs, because of this capacitance, hence I recommend MX-4.

I`ve ordered two new thermal pads:

    1. This one.
    2. And this one.

Soon I`ll get first type of thermal interface. I`ll test it and post screens here. Very interesting type is the second one. I`ve never seen such thermal conductivity of thermal pads before. Other thing - there is 17 W/mk thermal conductivity thermal interface too! :D Interesting, which temperatures will have my system with those thermal pads.

As people says at frozencpu, that 17W/mk thermal pads are not so flexible, as others, and this thermal pad does not fit for any gpu, ram or cpu. o_O

    Hello!

I don´t know if I´m right here, but I´ve got a question concerning my notebook Acer Aspire 5739G:

Some days ago I successfully installed a new CPU (P9500) and now I´m seeking for a new GPU because it seems that the GeGorce GT 240M can´t support newer games (even at the lowest resolution). I found out that the type of the card is MXM III Type A. So actually I´m monitoring a nVidia Quadro K1000M in ebay:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/DELL-OEM-Nv...958?pt=PCC_Video_TV_Cards&hash=item257e4bae2e

My question: Does the 5739G support the Quadro K1000M (TDP: 45 Watts)? Do I have to consider something in order to get that card running? To my understanding it doesn´t matter which card is installed, the main thing is that it´s MXM III Type A and that the TDP isn´t too high... or not?

And finally another short question: RMClock doesn´t work with Windows 7 64bit... with which software can I under-/overclock my CPU? I´m mainly interested in decreasing the VCore and saving power.

    Best regards!

    Hello to NBR forum! :)

About RMClock - I`m using Windows Ultimate x64 and this softwares runs great at my laptop.

About video card. K1000M is one of the best cards suitable for this laptop, but, if you want to push max possible GPU performance from that notebook, I recomend you to install M4000. In addition, TDP of M4000 is 33W, K1000M is 45W. Thus, K1000M will be hotter, than M4000. And don`t forget, that there are ROMless versions of the cards - cards without ROM chip soldered on it. If your card is with ROM chip soldered on it, than your card is just plug-and-play. If card is ROMless, you have to integrate this card`s vBIOS into sBIOS of your notebook.

@Propolkin: I don´t know why, but RMClock doesn´t start and obviously there´s missing a file?!?! Well, I also looked fo the M4000 - I know that is significantly faster than the K1000M - but also the price is significantly higher... So, how do I know if the K1000M does have a ROM chip? Is it possible to see it on the photos? And if not, how do I integrate it into the notebook´s BIOS? It sounds quite difficult... Do you have a link for that? I couldn´t find anything in that forum...

Here is the link, where is the guide on how to integrate vBIOS to sBIOS.

Here is the link for RMClock x64. (Link`ll be dead after 7 days!)

About your card - it seems that it is with ROMchip soldered on it (upper left corner on the first picture). Or you can ask valuxin to integrate yours card`s vBIOS into your sBIOS. But, don`t forget that with its mounting X-type bracket it will not fit to our notebook. After receiving it you will have to remove it. Or, if seller accepts, you can ask him to remove it for you. But I don`t think that he`ll be agreed to do it for you.

Better choice is to buy 6770M. This card is more powerfull, than K1000M and is less expensive. This one, for example. But, that is ROMless version. Mostly, 6770M with RED PCBs are with ROM chip soldered on it. Green versions - romless. Black and Blue PCBs - are for MAC. At ebay can be found blue 6770M for HP, but, I can`t tell, if it`ll work with our notebook. Maybe yes, if it will be reflashed by you with vBIOS from Dell`s 6770M. Or maybe not.

OK, thanks for the links. I´ll see if that version of RMClock works...

The link I attached above isn´t the card that I bought... I just inserted another K1000M as an example. Here you can find photos of the K1000M I´m talking about (photos 9 & 10):

    https://plus.google.com/photos/100401640456677036110/albums/5917609396338386961?banner=pwa

If I´m right this card has a chip soldered in the upper left corner... so this card has also a BIOS, right?

    Thanks a lot!

    Allrighty then...

So then I can set my mind at rest because the K1000M seems to work... I´ve bought it for 88$ / 66€... so quite cheap. I´ll think that the P9500 will be a good partner for that GPU. I´m confident to disassemble the x-bracket...

By the way RMClock works now. Before I used the 32bit-version. Actually I´m running the P9500@2,4GHz@1,000V... so far prime-stable.

Thanks! This is a great forum! Especially I want to thank Propolkin for his support...

I´ll let you know if the installation of the K1000M succeeded (including some CPU/GPU-benchmarks)...

    Hi!

I got the K1000M today and installed it some hours ago (also I easily removed the x-bracket). Now I´ve got the problem that the card is recognized as a "Microsoft Basic Display Adpater" and that I can´t install any driver:

    1. Original Quadro driver for notebooks: failed
    2. Original Geforce driver for notebooks: failed
    3. laptopvideo2go drivers (including the right card ID): failed
    4. drivers from DELL: failed

I don´t know what to do...

Here you can find a GPU-Z screenshot:

    What can I do?

Thanks, but it also didn´t work... the problem is, that I can´t use uncertified drivers, but I have to modify the certified drivers by inserting the manufacturing ID of my card. I also tried to deactivate the scanning for certified drivers (by typing "bcdedit /set testsigning on" in CMD), but I can´t get any driver running...

I need certified drivers for: PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0FFC&SUBSYS_021E1025

Try to do this. And these drivers. I used to try different driver versions, before I recognized, that 7770M`s drivers are also compatible for my card, for example.

    hello folks,

well, finally I could solve the problem. before i had installed windows 8.1 for testing purposes and it's impossible to install uncertified drivers. so I switched to Windows 7 and installed the latest nVidia driver (311.65) by modifying the inf-file. unfortunately all tutorials that I found or Popolkin linked were related to older drivers. so I had to do it on ny own. first I took an equivalent card from the "list.devices" and put my ID to that card. then I also inserted my ID to the same card in the file that is linked inside of the first file (e.g. nvblq.inf). during the installation you have to confirm, that you want to install an uncertified driver. now all mudules are installed and I'm happy...

so first of all I also installed a game in order to see which improvements I got with the new card. so I choosed Gothic 3 and it's the first time that I can increase all options to the maximum without any lags... @Propolkin: you mentioned that you're interested in results. what kind of results did you expect?

the Acer Aspire 5739g is now 4 years old but I'm sure to keep it more years. now I'll buy a SSD to increase the performance furthermore.

Should I inform the owner of that thread that it´s possible to install a K1000M to that notebook?

That are very good news! i`m glad, that you have solved your problem! As we Russians says, "moral of this fable is as follows": do not use windows 8, it`s a crap. :D Could you test your current system with 3Dmark06 and post the screen with resulting scores? In addition that would be great to see temperatures of the system in stress test - Intel burn test (for CPU) and furmark (for GPU).

So you got great experience in modifying drivers. For nVidia cards it is not so idiotic, as for AMD cards. Because of I`m lazy on it - I did not try to modify drivers of DELL`s M4000 for my card and just installed drivers from 7770M. :D

Which SSD you are planing to install and do you plan to install it in optical drive slot?

OK, I´ll perform the benchmark tests this evening...

Actually I´ve got a Sandisk 60 GB SSD installed with approx. 110 MB/s reading performance (@SATA-II). So I will update to a Samsung 840 EVO 128 GB; there will be a performance increase. I´ll keep the optical drive so there won´t be mounted a normal HDD. Additionally I´m thinking about to install a mSata-drive because I don´t have the tv tuner installed.

    Greeting!

So, you`ve installed SSD instead of HDD?

About mSata. You mean at this place, that is shown on the screen with red?

Correct! I removed the HDD and installed th SSD. And yes, I mean that place...

That place is for mPCI-E devices. As said meaker and triturbo, it seems that this will not work until you re-connect some pins from mSata connector to mPCI-E socket. You should clarify this question. I thought of installing mSata at this place too. And in internet it is written, that mPCIE and mSATA are absolutelly different things.

Not that different, just the 4 PCIe lanes need to be 4 SATA ones for it to be mSATA. Electrically they are the same. So you have to cut those 4 lanes and solder the appropriate SATA lanes instead.

    Hello!

OK, I didn´t know that this interface is a mPCIe. So what else can Iinstall there?

Another short question: I changed the T6600 (TDP: 35W) with a P9500 (TDP: 25W). I thought that the temperatures at idle and full load were lower than the T6600. Actually the temps are 38°@idle/standard VCore and 75°@load/standard VCore. For me it seems too much… What are your temps?

For example TV-Tuner or modem can be installed at mPCIE slot.

First of all, remind me please, which thermal-paste do you use? Second, which stepping version of P9500 you have (You can see it by using CPU-Z utility)? How did you apply thermal-paste on the processor? Which temps were for T6600 at full load?

As I have X9100 C0 stepping, my temps are high even with program-controlled fan - idle 37-40 C, full load 80-85(7) C. Additionally my CPU is undervolted from stock 1.275V to 1.0875V and I`m using one of the best thermal-paste in the market (IMHO) - Arctic Silver 5.

75 C for cpu is not so much, you should not worry about overheating. But, if you want to degrade highest temps, I would recommend to undervolt CPU and to apply some great thermal-paste.

I use the paste Gelid Extreme and I covered the die of the CPU/GPU with a thin film... not too much nor too less. I think that the paste is ok.

Well... I don´t remember the temps of the T6600 but I pretty sure that I never reached 75° C. The revision of the P9500 is C0.

The last revision of P9500 is E0. normaly, Intel`s core 2 duo E0 stepping processors are CPUs with some bugs fixed. For example X9100 E0 is less heat generating than C0. Maybe the situation with P9500 is the same. Anyway, 75 C for 25W TDP CPU is not so bad. My old T6600 with Arctic Silver 5 at full load had about 70-78 C. Also you can try AcFanControl utility to controll your FAN. It`s a good utility, which really helps to lower the temps.

    Hey all!
I have had my 5739 for over three years now, and I love it. Minor maintenance has kept it solid and dependable for the whole time. It's used, heavily for up to 16 hours daily and rarely have I had issues. Im a musician and I actually brought it for a tour of the US which lasted 8 months during summer and winter, covering over 38,000 miles and we camped rather than staying in hotels, and my little Acer not only survived, she thrived! 8 dudes huddled round a campfire in 100 percent humidity in a Louisiana state park, watching the Red Wedding episode of Game Of Thrones, was an experience I'm not likely to forget soon.
Anyway, I use the girl for gaming and music production, with no problems. But lately, newer games are struggling. So I'm considering a full overhaul. I've read through the whole thread, and learned a lot. But I would like to ask, what are the best cpu, gpu and memory upgrades available, and would I have to upgrade the cooling system? I will be installing a SSD as the primary drive and a HDD in the optical bay as secondary.

    Thanks in advance!
