    Ok mister smartass :D

I seriously miss my 5739g's speakers... this new one is horrible...
My 5 is 6 or 7 years old now and it blows this laptop out of the water... I might have to switch back lol

Really? o_O I thought most of new laptops are supplied with good speakers. Anyway - I mostly don`t use default speakers.

well the tuba "subwoofer" (if you can call it that) is what makes the speakers of this laptop so nice. never seen such great audio from any laptop speaker so far.

and by the way, I recently discovered that the original acer audio driver is better than the updates from realtek.
So I wiped my audio driver and installed the one that is provided on the acer support page (2009ish version, I know its pretty old but trust me I've had no problems so far). the reason is that the sound is way more powerful then, its louder and has more "boom".
on any newer version (e.g. the HD audio drivers from realtek) the speakers and particularly the tuba subwoofer is way less powerful.
just wanted to add this in case you didn't know

@cossh014: why dont you install SSD and HDD (with adaptor in the optical bay)?

    Hi!
I sincerely hope that you guys still are a little bit active here since i know this laptop is far from new..

I recently got this (5739G) laptop from a friend for free, he had used it quite a bit so it´s far from mint condition so to say.
Never the less, I installed a new SSD and got me a new power cabel as the old one was broken, changed som thermal paste and did som air dusting and it turned out quite nice.
Updated the BIOS, Installed Windows 7 64-bit and all the drivers for gpu (gt240m) etc.

Everything is working excellent except one thing thats really bugging me, the Acer Media Touch buttons.
I just cant seem to get them to work!!

    I have tried:
The latest Synaptics drivers from Synaptics home page Synaptics_v17_0_19
The drivers you get when you search for drivers for the 5739G on Acers home page Synaptics_14.0.6.0
Now im gonna try the drivers from here http://forum.notebookreview.com/acer/218872-latest-synaptics-driver-modded-acer-mediatouch.html

The drivers do what they are suposed to do for the touch pad but i dont get the menu for the media touch panel to work, not even light up....

I really hope you can help me whit this one! :)
    Cheers!

sounds like there is a problem with the FFC that connects the panel. Maybe when you opened the laptop you forgot to properly connect it?
The Panel goes away with 6+2 screws (3 screws on every corner plus two smaller screws behind the battery pack)

Yep, that was the problem, apparently my friend had opened it and then left it not connected.
    Thanks for the quick awnser!

Have another one now lol, I am now abel to press the Powersmart Key and it lights up but nothing happens and i cant find the drivers on acer homepage for PowerSmart Manager, i google it and i find a couple of suspicious sites but not the real deal from acer?
What have you done whit this, just ignore the button all together?

And i have also ordered a new graphics card an amd 6770m. Is it just to install or do i need a special bios for it?

I think this button was supposed to throttle the CPU/GPU down sometime.

It basically does nothing now. You can use it as a reminder-light or something...whatever :D

Not using it, not bothering myself.
Besides Acer launch manager (for proper wifi/BT/etc toggle display and Fn-Key interaction), touchpad driver and acer crystal eye webcam I did not install any other acer software when I reinstalled windows 7. (also the old sound driver, see post above)

Besides, I use an old version of EVGA precision (I made a post about it earlier in this thread) to control my GPU and ThrottleStop for Controlling my CPU (also for underVOLTing my CPU in order to minimize Heat output): when on Battery, I simply load a profile that uses the lowest available frequencies, pretty nice to have my T9900 running at only 800-1600MHz and 0.9V, it really saves some battery life.

No idea about the graphics card, I guess you'll need the other ones for that question

6770M if it is ROMless you`ll have to do vBIOS integration in sBIOS. If it is with ROM chip, than nothing additional should be done - just plug`n`play. If you can post the image of the ordered 6770M, I`ll tell you more about that. If you are interested in real performance boost in games and CAD softwares, you should buy M4000 from aliexpress. Don`t forget, that using such things as T9900 or X9100 in combination of M4000 you must use best thermal pads and thermal pastes.

Acer Powersmart Key is able to work correctly under Windows Vista with drivers, written to work only with that OS. In google there were some information, how to enable this key in Windows 7, but I don`t remember the process of enabling it.

To control your power management, as bernida correctly have told, use ThrottleStop or RMClock to control your CPU and EVGA or MSI Afterburner for GPU.

For example, I`m using RMClock to control my X9100 - undervolting to 1.085V in usual usage and on battery to lower value of voltage. And it really works good under Windows 7 x64.

Ah okey, then reminder/decorative light it is! ;)

The only acer drivers I actually have installed now is the realtek audio driver and my god what a difference it made, i have used the laptop a couple of
months without the proper audio drivers cause i didn't think it would make much difference but i had so wrong.
The sound is so much heavier with the Tuba and the other stuff compared to other laptops i've used. So nice! :D

Dont you need an unlocked BIOS to change the volt and frequency?

Hmm.. this is the card i ordered
Wholesale ATI 216 0810001 HD 6770M GDDR5 1GB MXM III Type A Laptop Video Card HP | eBay
I hope that can help you see if it´s ROMless or not.
I had no idea that you would have to think about the ROM, hopefully you give me some good news :p

What kind of card is the Firepro M4000? looks like an 7770m?
Is It really that big difference if you compare the 6770m vs 7770m?

Isnt just the switch from GT240m to the 6770m quit big?
Now i get 4312 Graphics Score in cloud gate, 3DMark and i hope i will come a "little bit" closer to my 7970 which give me around 47000 gs.

New CPU will maybe happen in the future, for now i will just try to oc if it's possible.

The card you`ve linked for is ROMless - you`ll have to do vBIOS integration in sBIOS or solder ROM chip with additional resistors on the PCB of videocard. ROM - this is the chip where vBIOS of the card is stored.

M4000 is much, much stronger, than 6770M. FirePro M4000 - this is professional version (which supports professional drivers) of 7770M - they share the same GPU.

There are no problems in physically switching between GT240M and other MXM-III Type A card - just remove old, apply new thermal paste and pads, install it in slot, close the cover and boot up the laptop. The problem only is in presence of ROM chip on PCB of card and vBIOS presence in it. If the card has ROMchip, but doesn`t contain vBIOS - it can be flashed easy with proper vBIOS.

As for CPU - just for undervolting you don`t need updated sBIOS. As for CPU replacement, you`ll probable need the last version of sBIOS.

To overclock the CPU using Windows driven software, you have to buy X9100 or X9000 - those has unlocked multipliers. But they are very hot and there are plenty of C0 versions of those processor - these are especially hot. To overclock any other CPU, for instance T9900 or other, you have to use PIN-mod or SetFSB program using clock generator, which is located on the motherboard... And so on, and so on. :D If you have additional questions about overclocking, undervolting and mods, just ask them - I`ll answer than them and I`ll give some links in addition. Or search information in the thread - there is plenty of information about everything, that is possible to do with 5739G. :)

Hopefully, you understand my English. :D

Thought i was the unclear one with my swenglish :p
    No problem understandig you sir!

Expect for one thing... "do vBIOS integration in sBIOS" what exactly does that mean?
Do I have to integrate the gpu bios to the bios on the motherboard in some way?

Cuse the other thing you said...SOLDER?? seriusly?
I knew this wasn't going to be as easy as with a desktop but soldering! didn't see that coming... :/

And how do you see the bios, is it the metal lump whit 1R0 on it in this picture?
    http://i01.i.aliimg.com/wsphoto/v0/...-font-N10P-GS-A2-font-b-GT-b-font-font-b.jpga

Got the card an hour ago and had to test it, the pc starts as usual and i got into windows, expect one small thing, the screen was black all the time, switched back to 240 and it works again.

So i guess i have to search the thread for a bios that will work whit my card, at least its only like 150 pages :p

Thanks for all the help so far, really appreciate it! :)

    Thanks! :D

vBIOS integration in sBIOS - integrating the video BIOS file into laptop`s system BIOS. Here is a guide.

yep, you have chioces - integrate vBIOS in sBIOS, make a sloder mod, or buy a card with ROM chip soldered on PCB of the card.

I can`t see the image you`ve linked. As for "1R0" - it is 1k ohm resistor, if I`m not mistaken.

Yeah, you`ve got black screen because of there is no ROM chip on the card.)))

Ah okey, so how could you see that the bios is missing?

The funny thing is that i also have some problems whit all three of the usb ports and the power port, so i think i will try and change the motherboard as well.
    Found this on ebay
    Acer Aspire 5739 5739G Laptop Motherboard MB PDS06 001 MBPDS06001 | eBay
And i need to lokate that my motherboard also is an Acer Motherboard P/N: MB.PDS06.001. do you know where i can see the P/N?

for 6770M - on the top left side of PCB there must be a chip. Compare this, with this and you`ll see the difference. For M4000 it is the same, but I`ve not seen ROMless M4000 yet.

To see revision of the motherboard, you have to search it on PCB of motherboard or use programs, as AIDA. You can buy motherboard of newer revision - maybe it has last revision of PM45 - it will allows you to install core 2 quad processors.

If it's not designed to have quad support, it wont have it, no matter the revision. As I said, it's not the chipset, it's the motherboard itself. Don't hold your breath on false believes, just grab the soldering iron and do some magic :)

I don`t remember the model of other ACER laptop, but there where a model, which had motherboard of some first revision. It had PM45 of first revision also. Than ACER manufactured the same model of laptop, but new revision of motherboard and with new PM45 (off course with additional PCB coating) and on that freshened model it was possible to install quads.

I know that it is possible to solder PM45 of last revision and make new additional coating on PCB for that chipset. But it is insanity, not a mods anymore, I think. :D

Yeah Acer 8930g have had two revisions of motherboard. The one for a quads still have only two phase circuit for cpu Vcore like the other one but numbers of mosfets was doubled from 2 per phase to 4 per phase because higher current requirements for a quad core processors. Plus off course additional circuits for second pair of cores - temp sensors and other stuff. Simply speaking to support quads it's needed stronger, beefier cpu Vcore supply section and additional circuits for few extra pins which on the dual cores are reserved and not connected.

Finally got around to adding a second 5V fan. Seems to have reduced the temperatures a few degrees due to more air flow through out the laptop. Placed directly over the southbridge, which for me gets really quite warm, the air blasts down and circulates around the bottom of the video card and over the CPU socket. Seems to have been a cheap slightly noisy way to shave a couple more degrees off. ( I can still over heat my M4000 playing games, even with my measly P8700 CPU. 1080p makes the system work a fair bit harder than it was.)

I believe the fan is 40mm, I did have to snip one little bit of plastic to fit it in, but is snug enough to not need any way of holding it down.

I got 5V from my mini pcie to usb adapter, I use that for bluetooth, both function fine, the fan draws only 120mA.

Unfortunately, I have the same issue, I've not been able to solve it. The issue was present with my 6770m as well as the M4000. So far, no driver combination or setting has enabled the audio over hdmi for me.

To enable audio using HDMI, you have to connect audio cable (as with usual speakers) to PC and TV. Yeah, that is really strange.

Hello. Just wanted to say thank you Propolkin for doing so much work with the 5739G =D. I have been hesitant about upgrading for a while, but after reading this thread, I ordered AMD FirePro M4000 GDDR5 1GB MXM 3 0A Mobile Laptop Graphics Video Card 3YF07 | eBay

    and

    Intel Core 2 Duo T9600 Mobile 2.8ghz Dual Core Skt P CPU 2.8/6m/1066 Slg9f at Amazon.com

I also got the 11w heat pads =D. I know you recommended the P series processor with 28 TDP. Should I be worried about heat? Maybe replace my fan or put a second one in? It's pretty cool where I live and my laptop is elevated. But it has overheated before with just the 120m / T6500 on hot summers. Thank you

    hello!

Thank you for good words! ;)

Having 11W pads and using it on VRAM will give you good additional cooling. Using T9600 your laptop will not overheat, I think. But this is if you`ll use Good thermal paste and undervolt the CPU.

    As if by magic...

All you need is a Butane gas soldering iron with a torch attachment. It really didn't take long to melt the solder, probably 20 seconds or so. No damage, expansion or rupturing of the heatpipe.

Soon it will time to remove my existing heatsink from my laptop and solder this along side of it for x2 the CPU cooling heatpipes...once I figure out where to put the fins. I may be able to achieve something similar on the GPU also, so keep watching.

My old and faithfull 5739g-744G50Bn has bellied up on me.

I was in the middel of a bios upgrade, when the computer stalled and crasched. After a hour of waiting and making sure, that the computer had stalled - I had to remove the battery in order to shut it down.

When I tuned it on again it refused to boot. It starts to boot, and shortly after the HD-light has been activated for the first time, it shuts down and tries to boot again. It will continue to restart, shut down and restart endlessly. The full cycle of starting, shut down and restarting takes about 6-7 seconds.

I have searched this site and other google-hits and tried all of them:

    1. Removing the battery and keeping laptop with no power for more that a hour, and then trying to boot again.
2 I have tried to start the laptop and at the same time pressing all kinds of key combinations in the hope that it would boot and reinstal the bios from a rescue bios file from intel 'Rm0035.bio (combinations I have tried: -fn+ecs, fn+b, windows+b, windows+n and so on - all of the combinations the I have found and tried did not work - but perhaps I just need to try the rigth combination)
3 I have tried to clear the cmos, both by removing the battery and I have also tried to short circute the G1 and G2 connectors on the motherboard.

Do any one know what to do - because I have run out of thing to do and seach for, but I hope that some one has a solution or a good lead in the right direction.

Hope to hear from some one :)

hello all this is my first post ever lol
    so hello to all members

i have just got my hands on a 5739g paid £40 for it

i have upgraded the cpu to a T8300 and flashed the bios as i wanted to see if i could over clock it i used this

    1.Select Main
    2.Select Workaround Control Sub-Menu
    3.Select MCH Control Sub-Menu
    Now Disable Dynamic FSB

    4.Select CPU Control Sub-Menu

    Intel SpeedStep Enabled
    Deep C4 Disabled
    Hard C4 Disabled
    C6 Disabled
    ***DO THIS LAST***
    Enhanced C-States Disabled

    Save and Exit setting

Your laptop might turn off, it will turn back on its own, if not hit the power button, but wait atleast 1 minute before doing so.

Before overclocking i recommend you remove the white from the gpu/cpu fan, so the fan can run at full speed so no overheating can happen

if you shut down your laptop you will have to rerun setfsb everytime, if you leave it on 24/7 then no big deal,

    When in Windows

    Start SETFSB

Select Pull down menu Look for SLG8SP513V
    Next Select GetFsb
Next The Pull over it will show 266/533 and it will show 4/6 in a little light lime green box

I think that your processors multiplier is a bit too high to handle the overclock. When you set the FSB to 266/533 the CPU goes up to ~3,2Ghz (12x266Mhz)
You can't raise the CPU core voltage and you end up with unstable overclock that restarts the computer.

I recently noticed that my 3D performance has dropped significantly. After long problem hunting I noticed that my cards PCI-E slot is running at 1x, even when I put load on the GPU.
I tried reseating the card, cleaning contacts, resetting motherboard BIOS, reinstalling drivers and windows. Nothing helped.
Anyone has any idea what is happening? I have run out of ideas.

Manufacturers didn't know. I can prove it can support 8gb, I've had 8gb in mine. Propolkin has 8gb. The majority of the 5739g owners has 8gb RAM. Trust us, just buy two 4gb sticks for each slot. 1333mhz, ddr3 (it will probably run at less than that speed, not sure if anyone ever got it to run at the full speed)

In order to manage the RAM run at 1333 Mhz, CPU and RAM FSB must be overclocked. Thus, you can just buy 2 sticks of 4Gb RAM 1066MHz FSB.

    That is DDR3 1600mhz, and not 1066mhz or 1333mhz. So isn't compatible.

Apparently not. I've never bought 1600 because 1333 was the cheapest I could find.

Hello rengback. I had a similar problem with my laptop when I spillled beer on it. Wouldn't boot. Simply taking the cmos battery out and putting it back in fixed it. Can you try this?? I think I got lucky :)

I just installed my m4000 and t9600 woohoo! I got the 11kw fujipoly thermal pads Propolkin mentioned earlier in this thread and I forgot to take the plastic off one of the pieces! I also didn't use enough glue. I wouldn't recommend doing the CPU/gpu at the same time, because I wasn't sure what was wrong at first. Some people mentioned earlier in this thread full disassembly is required to upgrade the cpu, I found this is not the case. Simply rotate your laptop 90 degrees so you are staring straight down at it, and you can clean with 99% alcohol/qtip and insert new cpu.

Gpu took strong hands to remove. The m4000 I bought from ebay cost 100$. For installation I needed a glasses repair kit, with a very tiny flat head. This helped me take the x bracket off. I can add some pictures later. The expoxy was very strong.

I put a mini philips screw-driver in my vice grips and pushed down 1 screw hole at a time after using my hair dryer a little. Took almost 15 minutes to take off.. glue was so strong.

Okay so I booted my computer and it kept crashing. Over and over again. No BSOD. Was saying " failure fixed disk 0"... false alarm.

And then I plugged my USB flash drive in, after my screen went blank, and I heard the magnificent beep from Windows. I knew it was my gpu.

I reinspected my GPU and found I forgot to take the plastic off one of the heat pads!! And I don't think I used enough Glue. I think I read earlier in this thread you need lots of glue for the m4000 could be wrong but I think this fixed my problem.

Now I think my fan is my next upgrade. My fan keeps switching between full speed and off.. I think I need a fan speed controller??

Anyways my windows index went up from 5.4 to 7.0 with the m4000.
The cpu went from 5.3 to 6.4 with the t9600 ( 50$ amazon)

And strangely enough.. I think the memory went up too with the processor??

I know the ONLY reason I bought this computer was because it had ddr3 before any other computer lol!!

The majority of people fit 6770m or M4000/7770m mxm 3.0 A cards. The M4000 is available from the US relatively cheap by searching for the part number PR80c. These are confirmed working in my laptop without any BIOS issues, just straight out of the box. It will be recognised as a 7770m and drivers aren't a problem. The M4000 is the top MXM 3 A board available as far as I can remember and it will play modern titles fine at 1080p for me or medium to high settings.

I'm from the UK and it cost me £60 including shipping and import taxes etc from the USA for my M4000. Be sure to search PR80c.

Also, you need a signature, you can find it in the account profile section.

There's also M5100, but it's kinda steep compared to the performance that it gives in return compared to M4000.
