Congrats to you! But why 8930G?

I`ve received my new fan. And I have two problems - first of all I`ve ordered ADDA with green label, but received SUNON with black. Second - one of the positioning legs is damaged. =/ Asked a seller to send me a new one. If no - I`ll ask ebay to search for the solution in this situation.

I`ve bought from THT PC shops. In ebay, Germany.

Bernida, as you know, I`ve done lot of cooling system modifications. The last thing, that I can try now - it is polishing of the copper heatsinks of GPU and CPU. Even 3-5 C drop of temperature will be good for me. :)

    Thanks propolkin!

I don't know, maybe I made a mistake. I have decided to buy it suddenly when I saw it on the web site. I think it was cheap(200€ ;). Full hd, c2d p8400, 4gb ddr3, gf 9600gt 512mb ddr3, bluray, etc.

I guess it has problem about its inverter because there is strange lower sound -buzzzzzzzzzz-. It goes off when I shut off the lcd.

8930G isn`t so powerfull, as 5739G is, because it has MXMII card. About your problem - trully, I don`t know where is the problem in your new laptop. Yambe in inverter as you said.

So, finally, I have money for upgrade...

New SSD (for OS) and HDD (for all other stuff):
    1. SSD
    2. HDD
    3. 2.nd HDD Caddy

    Cooling:
    1. Another one Arctic Silver 5
    2. Fujipoly cooling plates
    3. New heatsink module - here is a problem. Everywhere in ebay I see only used. But I need new. Does anyone can help me with it? Another porblem - I need it to be delivered as fast as possible, because there is a possibility that I`ll move from the country in march. =/

    Edited: I`ve found it! :D

Where do you get the Fujipoly pads? Are they the 11W/mK ones?

    Hi, triturbo! ;)
These things are taken here. There are even 17 W/mk. :))) But these 17 W/mk are not so flexible as 11W/mk and less are.

I see, I know it, I hoped for a closer location, and I'm not sure if they are still in business. There were some very disturbing news couple of days ago. I know about the 17 W/mK as well, but after trying Phobya XT 7 W/mK I don't want to get something like it again. How flexible are the 11 W/mK pads? A Phobya XT comparison would be ideal. Also how much was the shipping cost? Thanks.

Which news? o_O I`ve not heard about them.

About flexibility - enough for installing them on VRAM and even on GPU core, but not on CPU. Shipping to Latvia 37$. I`ve tried to order fujipoly pads from them, but I was not able to pick the payment method, and, in addition, I was not able to reach them by telephon. What`s happened to them? o_O

    hi guys,
    I have an acer 5739;

    intel P9700
    nvidia gt 240m 1gb ddr3
    4 gb ddr3 1066mhz

use sony vegas pro 13 for video editing, I need more computing power, currently use rendering with GPU (CUDA), which is faster than the core 2 duo

I would like to switch to a ati 6770 / fire pro 5950 or M4000 spending as little as possible, to render with the AMD OpenCL.

but which of these should I buy, are good ones in link?

    Hi,

The ati 6770m and m5950 are identical to each other on hardwarr level. Difference is the vbios of the firepro which gives it better performance on professional edting programs. You're best bet is the m4000 which is the fastest. But you should realise that ati doesnt support cuda but opencl. Make sure the program you are using supports that.

    Cheers

So, I`ve installed my second HDD im DVD slot. Formated it through Windows, but the OS doesn`t see it. :D During POST my BIOS is identifing it. Why it is not seen through OS? o_O

Edited: oh damn, I forgot to add to new disk a letter. :DDD yeah, sometimes even such things happens. :D

So, I`m now running both new drives - SSD and HDD. In Windows system check I have 5.9 points of main disk perfromance. Why it is so low? o_O

I`ve mooved all User`s folders to HDD (such as Downloads, Links, Music and so on). Disabled System Restore. Disabled Sysprefetch. Disabled Disk indexing for search service. Moved pagefile.sys to HDD. Moved system cache to HDD. Installed SATA drivers. Set AHCI mode in BIOS.

AS SSD Benchmark shows Seq. Read 262.40 Mb/s and write only 33.90 Mb/s. Why there are so bad results? o_O

In addition, in cmd the commant fsutil behavior query disabledeletenotify shows that TRIM is enabled. But HDSentinel shows that it is disabled. o_O

I think there were some tweaks around for older platforms like yours (same goes for mine as well). Don't remember it tough. I hope that you don't wonder about the read, since you are on SATA-II and this is as far as it would get. The write is really low tough.

I know that from SATA-II I will not get more than ~200 Mb/s write, but the read must be the same as shows specification of my HDD. o_O i`ve updated my eralier post.

Read speed will be limited by SATA II as well so don't count on more than 200-250MB/s either way.
Write speed is atrocious though - I agree. Maybe it's not as much a problem with speed itself as it is a problem with benchmarks - see what Crystal Disk Mark shows.

Results in Crystal Disk Mark are the same - seq. read 261.8 Mb/s seq.read 32.71 Mb/s.

Hmmm, making a format of a disk I should use usual fast format before re-installing the OS? (Win 7 Ultimate x 64)

Secure erase it, you might brick the SSD with the format.

Does it has a toolbox or something like that - i.e supporting software? Otherwise I think Paragon has software with this functionality. Just google your drive model and secure erase, there should be at least one useful result.

Tried using Parted Magic. but the SSD has to in unfrozen state. But my laptop puts every hard drive in boot into freeze state. Damn, and I can`t put in sleep mode using power button. Putting PC into sleep mode is one of the recommendations on how to unfreeze the drive.

One of the suggestions is to run parted magic on USB ( as I`ve done allready) and with SSD deattached. Wher the Parted Magic is running they suggest to attach SSD into system - connect it physically. But our laptop doesn`t support hot-swap.

And how now I can secure erase it? -_-

On the web I`ve not found any information regarding for my Kingston HyperX fury 120Gb Secure erase.

This SSD has toolbox software, but it doesn`t provide any options, only smart and firmware update.

So I`ve managed to proceed a secure erase. On Windows installation process I`ve un-intentionally touched RAM stick and my old 5739G went black. :D After that I`ve rebooted it, re-installed OS and now it works as it should.
Other question - if I restart my laptop using system restart function, it freeze on post screen. If I shut down it and than turn it on - no problems would occur. o_O What can it be?

More like it. As I said, there were some optimization guides... But I don't remember where exactly. There is performance to be gained, but I think it was at cost of battery.

So, I have new problem. I've received my new heatsink module, installed it and tried to boot the laptop. First of all - further than post it was not able to load. I've dissasemled it and assembled again. After that it booted, but graphics card was overheating. Switched it off, applied more thermal paste. After that laptop only was able to turn on, but without bios screen, without post. Just black screen. Before removing graphics, offcourse i've disconnected bios battery and laptop baterry. Still i'm not able to load the laptop.

Edited: I`ve swapped my M4000 to my old GT240M. Even with that card my laptop did not booted from the first try. I`ve dis-assebmled laptop for a couple of times. Tried another CPU. Nothing changed - with M4000 my machine did not start. But this is strange, I`ve not done anything. Except one. When I first booted the laptop and wanted to check, how my new heatsink works, I`ve ran Furmark. In 3-5 seconds temperature of M4000 went to 100 C, I`ve switched it off, an than turned off the PC through Windows, as usual. And after that no more successful boot with M4000.

I don`t believe that my M4000 is dead. -_- Unfornatulatelly I don`t know any person in my town, that has any MXMIII compatible laptop to check, if my card is working.

What I can do in addition to check if my M4000 is dead?

It wasn't the 100ºC that probably killed your GPU, but the temperature amplitude. You should've left it to cool slowly. Turning it off after stress test puts a lot of stress on the solder. It might just be coincidence, and the problem is elsewhere, but it's just something to have in mind in future. Something has failed, no questions about it, but I'm not sure what. Have you tried to load the BIOS defaults?

I`ve un-plugged BIOS battery for 30-40 times during all the disassembly time. Thus, it was returned to factory defaults for 30-40 times too. :D

Hmmm, about the stress to soldres. Didn`t know about that. Yeah, I don`t think too, that those 100-105C killed it, because after that I`ve managed to boot again. Just after usual restart. Now I`m sitting on my old GT240M. >(

And in addition - when I turned off Furmark it cooled fast by itself. o_O So, that was not up to my to control how it was cooled at that moment. ((

There was a situation, when I bought my M4000 and installed it for the first time - laptop was not able to boot. Only black screen and that`s all.Like now. But in that moment I just re-plugged it and managed to boot it.

    But not now. -_-

I would recommend Samsung EVO 840 SSD It gets 7.3 score in windows 7 WEI on my 5739G and I tried Crystal disk 50M test it got me Seq: Read 3130 Write 1423 MB/s (these speeds due to Rapid mode) , 4K QD32 was Read 367.4 Write 124.2 M

In terms of fixing video card you can inspect for broken solder connections, if not reheating the core chip ( I used digital heatgun and IR thermometer to monitor the temperature) might do the trick, assuming it wasn't killed by static. I always use antistatic mat and band on my hand while performing any assembly or handling static sensitive components (especially the ones with RAM chips)

I install new SSD by connecting as an external right out from the new box and create bootable partition from it without formatting, afterward just pop it in and do the new install of the windows during which windows will automatically format it to the right sector structure (at least win 7 should do it right but you can check later if still unsure). As far as disabling OS system features not used by SSD the samsung Magician software takes care of that in one swoop a swell as giving extra options like rapid mode, system provisioning (creating extra unused space that prolongs drives life) and running benchmarks to test performance. Very nice easy and fast set up (at least fastest from over 5 other different brands I had installed so far).

Hmm, does the metal plate, onwhich we are applying the thermal paste for GPU, has to be absolutelly parallel to a GPU chip? It seems, that mine is not. Maybe that was the reason, why I`ve killed my M4000?

More or less when you lower the card in goes down under small angle but the plate underneath has to be horizontally flat, best way to test is to take some liquidy heat sink compound (cheap white stuff) make a small drop of it in the middle of the heat sink and press video card down (or screw it in like it should be, after that lift it up and see how much and in which areas it's thinner or thicker on the chip core which should tell you if there's any big unevenness

Of course I`ll use the old one for testing, I just don`t want to move the laptop for now - I`ll let him to work untouched now until me new card arrives. If I decide to buy a new one, of course. If not - I`ll make some test with dead one.

As far as getting best M4000, when I was buying it I couldn't understand the difference between the Dell PR80C (possibly 2GB version?) and 3YF07 (definitely 1GB version) I bought PR80C with 2GB (as advertised) but got 1GB version instead and the seller didn't even think about making up for it, so I don't know if 2gb even exists

I`ve never seen yet real 2GB version. Both, PR80C and 3YF07 has the same 1Gb GDDR5 hunix memory and the same PCB layout. I think that one is for DELL code, and another for HP code.

Damn, I still don`t understand what`s wrong with my M4000. It just stopped to work.

After I`ve swapped my heatsink module with new one, I noticed, that temperatures on the my old GT240M and my X9100 are the same almoust all the time or differ to 2-5C. On the load or not on the load. What could it be? o_O I`ve repasted several times the CPU and GPU always trying to apply different layer of thermal paste.

Playing mechwarrior online ( based on "cry engine", if I`m not mistaken) temps of the GPU and CPU are 80C. X9100 is undervolted to 1.0875V and running on stock frequency, GT240M is not overclocked.

It is like the air from cooled GPU heatsink heats the heatsink of the CPU. I`ve never met such behaviour, when I used my old heatsink module and M4000. More - with M4000 I had better temperatures, than with GT240M.

It actually makes sense if the game is demanding somewhat on the graphics. With M4000 since it's more powerful it didn't max out it's power to do that task, with GT 240m it probably does so even the card has smaller TDP if it runs it maxed out it will increase heat factor. On the other note it should stay the same when browsing internet or working with documents (here M4000 also wins since it has advanced power management, here's a quote from notebookcheck website "Other features of the 7700M series include ZeroCore for reducing power consumption when the display is turned off and Power Gating to power down areas of the chip that are not used. PowerTune allows automatic overclocking and underclocking of the graphics card as long as the GPU is within its TDP range. For example, the chip may be underclocked when running FurMark and OCCT, but will overclock in certain games like Lost Planet, Crysis or Resident Evil 5.")
On my laptop PR80C is seen as HD 7700M series in GPU-Z and since it's running @ 675Mhz core equivalent to HD 7750M version.

    Now I`m sitting only in Google Chrome. GPU - 41, CPU 41. Then GPU - 42, CPU -41. Then GPU - 42, CPU - 42. 44 - 42, 44 - 44.

Yeah, I forgot about ZeroCore. So, soon my M4000 will arrive, I`ll try to test it.

Can someone tell me the difference for these heatsink modules for 5739G:

    1. 60.PDP07.002 Thermal module for N10P
    2. 60.PDS07.006 Thermal module for M96.

Both numbers are taken from service manual of 5739G. N10P- this is GT240M, I think. M96 - AMD?

As I can see there is not difference in both heatsniks, instead of CPU heatsink. o_O

Look exactly the same from pictures maybe different fans (adda vs sunon)? I don't see why there should be differences between heatsinks since both Nvidia and AMD MXM cards in that performance category have exact same layout (don't forget acer didn't account for anything more powerful that AMD HD 3600 series on his model so our HD 7750M or even HD 6770M weren't designed to be used with those heatsinks that's why they don't fit 100%)

The only difference is in the card TDP - Nvidia 28W, AMD 35W.
