So if all three laptops have the same resolution, processor, GPU, HDD, RAM, etc., is there any reason not to get the most portable one, the 13"?
-
Yep.the price is reason.
-
Main reason is availability
-
Apart from price, it's likely that the smaller ones will heat up more than the larger ones; unless Acer does a really good job with cooling the 13" with the 5650 will get hot.

just found this site wich has all the drivers for 3820:

pretty good prices imo
*edit* prices are with 19% german VAT -
prices seem a little high (pre-order), want to see them in usa prices on an actually usa website first. Hopefully, this week.
-
Good pricing indeed!
The 849 Eur price of the i5 430M - HD5650 system makes me wonder whether the i5 540M - HD5650 combo would be priced under 1000 Eur. -
Acer Aspire TimelineX 3820TG-334G50N mit Intel Core i5 430M 2.26GHz
713.45 EUR is the actual price for the system. The 849 EUR is WITH Germany's value added tax, which is 19%!!
This translates to 968 $USD and 985 $CAD. So I'm guessing the i5 540M - HD5650 combo will be under 1000 EUR, but not under 1000 USD/CAD.
However, it is nice to see some prices starting to pop up, right before the 22nd!I can't wait to see what pops up tomorrow.

As far as I knew the 14" model also dosen't have an ODD, though the german retailer - refered in the previous post - claims in the specs list that it has.
-
worthless if it wouldnt have an i5-520/40m
-
Yeah, "worthless", right...
-

That's true, GMA HD also has Turbo Boost. However, it doesn't have to be done together with the CPU's boost; in fact, in order to manage power consumption, it may preferentially choose to boost one or the other.
Intel whitepaper. -
Little tidbit of info. Got this off of theacerguy.com in one of his posts talking about the 3810TZ he says:
"there is a new generation, [3820], coming out and there have been some dramatic improvements in performance. Same battery life but a LOT more power. Coming out very soon. Probably won’t match those prices though…"

Do you guys think the i5 will be available with 5470? I don't want TOO much graphics power...
-
guess you prioritize battery life
-
In any case, if it isn't offered then I'll be happy with the 5650. I definitely want i5 over i3 tho.
PS: on the German site, it says for the first (cheaper) 3820TG model that it has "Intel Core i5 Prozessor i3-330M (3MB Cache, 2.13GHz)", which makes no sense. I guess that's just a typo tho. -

I checked all major e-retail stores. 1 minute has passed and still no sign... talk about SLOW!
-
. Take it as it comes along.
-
Its already Monday just past noon here.
Still can't find anything new. -
At the most I expect firm pricing and availability dates. -
-
Only reason i'm up right now is for the Amazon.com PS3 Goldbox deals... starts in 1h 40m
.
-
what is this PS3 goldbox deal?
-
Good chance the deals will be mediocre at best, but we can hope.
-
I see.. I hoping for a discounted PS3 but i doubt it.
Thanks -
Acer needs to start selling these new timelines

Hey guys can see the below link for pricing data...
Do note that it is in SGD & it is w educational discount...

That's quite a good price on the 3820TG-624G64n, only ~$1100 USD with the i7-620M and a 640GB HDD!
-
acer singapore has it, how about the rest of the world?
-
where would the official news be released, on acer's website or on tech sites like engadget/gizmodo
-
Glad to see Acer release I7-620M specs for the 3820TG. Was concerned that we would see all low spec'ed devices first. If the 3820TG-624G64n (these are the specs I want in my 3820TG) sells for less than $1,200 USD, I will have it ordered 30 minutes after it becomes available.
Now, where do I send the money.
Bronsky
Edit: Those of you who have a 3810T, will I be able to put an SSD in the 3820TG without removing the hard drive? -
Glad to see its out. Lets hope that we will get it soon!

Will Acer have the 8x72 with the Core i7 640 LM CPU?
Am comparing this one to the X201S. T410S is a core i5 with a 35 watt CPU and therefore is not comparable. No T series Lenovo has the i7 640LM.
If the Acer 8x72 Travelmate Timeline has the i7 640LM CPU (Big if) and it is substantially cheaper than the Lenovo X201s even though it weighs .8 lbs more, I will be taking a look at this one in the store before I decide to buy.
A Lenovo X201S is ideal but it will set me back $1399 right now. The Acer has to come in at significantly less because it is missing the roll bar and is heavier and missing the Lenovo's excellent user input devices.
I waited a long time on a notebook while most people already bought them.
I passed multiple generations and incarnations. The non core i7 ultraportables with the ULV CPUs were just way too slow even though they had good battery life which was superior.
Now with the new Core i7 640LM you get excellent performance along with superior battery life to boot all in one. This is the ideal chip as far as I am concerned for a notebook PC. Though a 660LM with a higher clock speed would be even better. But I will say the i7 640LM is just the sweetspot CPU in the ultraportable market right now. -
hmm that i5 model looks interesting.
-
And you have to remember, those Singapore prices have a student discount but also includes the 3 year warranty which is probably like an additional $200.
I'd love to have a 3820TG-624G64n but with the i5-540 instead of the i7.
But too bad, I ordered an m11x already. If this is really what it turns out to be... I'll probably have to return the alienware -
Kinda wondering, from the spec listed on the Acer Singapore...
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 (1GB DDR3 VRAM) [AFTER FREE UPGRADE] -
I thought we were suppose to get stateside information today regarding the acer products. Dont see anything yet, maybe it is too early.
-
-
I would then go to Singapore to pick it up lah, but a price to Singapore from the USA is too much lah.
Will Singapore ship to the USA lah? Or is it too much for shipping lah considering that Singapore is a huge transit hub lah for asia lah. -
what about the i5 model?
