    Does the 3820 TG have any USB 3.0 ports? Or are they all 2.0?

    The Acer Travelmate 8x72 will be Matte in a 13.3" but I need to know CPU option and pricing. Am comparing it to a nicely speced Lenovo X201S for $1399 which weighs less. This one needs to be significantly cheaper for me to consider it with the same 640LM CPU. Lets see if this one is something to consider.

    Regular Timeline will come out first. Its just a matter of time before we see product announced in the USA.

    I am really liking the look of the laptop, not too bulky, fairly slim, and subtle.

    Has anyone seen this yet?

    The Good: It looks like Acer made the official announcement for bringing the new TimelineX's to the US!

    The Bad: Still no details on US pricing/release date (yet)

    Well the 22nd has been and gone and still no official word.

    Also can anyone make an educated guess of how long after the US launch we can expect to get them in the UK? I just don't want it going the way of the Asus UL80's which didn't even bother to appear here!

    A german retailer - mentioned in one of the previous posts - offers it for pre-order with an estimated shiping time of 5-6 weeks, I guess consumers in the UK (shall I say Europe) should count on a realase date similar to the german shiping "date".

    Glad to see these things being actually released. Sony is making the decision a bit more difficult. Best Buy is selling the I5-540M 6GB DDR3 Win Pro 64 version of the Z for $1,699.00 with $200 in Bing Cash, the price is a hair under $1,500.00. I am assuming that the Acer will sell in the $1,200 range with the I7 and GPU upgrade. The Sony probably has a better display than the 3820TG, is a pound lighter and has a far superior keyboard. There are no reports of heat issues on the Z with the I5-540M as the Sony cooling design seems to be very well designed. It gives up a substantial amount of performance in GPU to the 3820TG but is the better all around business machine. I need a decent graphics card for my work but I use my desktop for gaming. The GT 330M might be enough for my needs. It also looks like drivers are being designed to retrofit Optiimus on the Z as well.

    But, I'm still drawn to the sheer power of an I7-620M-HD5650 3820TG. :rolleyes:

    Hey Bronsky!

    For this price, I'd defiantely pull the trigger on the Z (for what we know: it probably has a better keyboard, better built quality, great cooling design, more portable due to less weight, superior screen).

    The GT 330M is a good card, and the i5 540M is more than a decent CPU, IMO the i7 620M won't provide much more power, but it'll surely consume more.

    If I had any chance of buying the Vaio Z with the mentioned specs for 1500 USD, I wouldn't hesitate.

    Where are you getting that BestBuy offers $200 of Bing cashback on a $1700 purchase? According to the Bing Cashback page, BestBuy only offers 5% cashback. That would be $85 for the $1700 Sony Z. So the price would end up being a bit over $1700 once you add in sales tax. So, you are not looking at a $1500 Sony Z; you are looking at a $1700 Sony Z. $200 may not be a deal breaker for many looking at this nice system, but let's not get too carried away with how great a deal this is.

    Still waiting on the Acer 3820TG and the Asus UL30JT.

    LOL read somebody elses post and got so excited that I didn't do the math. :D I think they thought it was 15%. Still, at $1,625 (before tax) its tempting.

    I do a fair amount of writing. I am assuming that the 3820T keyboad has the flat keys like the 1410T but in a better spacing. Imma sit tight for now and see what develops. Hmmm. Wonder if I can get an additional % off at Best Buy if I get a credit card or something?

    Bronsky :cool:

    Damn It! I hate decisions like this. I was waiting quietly for my new 3820TG to be released, minding my own business.

    still nothing in the US site. I´m crazy to see the code for the i5 + 5650 + 13´´ model.

    what I can say for sure is that I already made up my mind on that one. I´m also talking to a friend who bring stuff from USA to buy it ASAP (since I am from Brazil).

    Is Sony's warranty international? Also how inferior is the Sony graphics?

    The GT 330M in the Sony is nothing to sneeze at. If you check out the Owners Lounge for the new Z they have benchmarks there. The 335M and the HD 5650 in the Acer are more comparable. So, the GPU in the Acer is a grade above the Sony's.

    I don't think the warranty is international. I believe you have to return the unit bought in the USA to Sony USA, etc. The owners in the Sony forum would know better.

    Guess we’ll all have to wait.

    One thing I’m concerned about is the system’s keyboard. According to the known specs, it’d be equipedd with „chiclet keyboard”, no info about backlit or anything.

    I could do without a backlit keyboard – although I’d be more happy if it was available with it – but I don’t know anything about this chiclet thing. Anyone has info about that?

    Just look at the pictures in the OP and all the other pictures that have surfaced since. I was also skeptical of the keyboard, since I was looking for something as spaced out as Sony's Z keyboard, but after really looking at it, I'm fairly confident in saying that the 3820TG's keyboard is going to be nice to type on.

    I think people who had the 3810T have said that the keyboard is nice, and I think it's the same one in the 3820TG.

    Obviously, the listing is not complete yet. The first display page of the site says that the Timelines will have I7 processors. Acer seems to be in the process of updating a number of its sites but is slow as crap. :rolleyes:

    4820TG-434G64Mn - Core i5 430M also has the ATI 5650. So it could possibly because of a heat issue with the more powerful i7s, has anyone got the thermal specs on these processors?

    I'm slightly confused by the specs at the moment because to me there seems to be practically no difference between the 13" and 14" models.

    Looking for i7 640LM on a Travelmate 8x72. Think this CPU will be available?

    Lenovo X201S came down to $1394 in price nicely equipped. Was $100 more last month. Has the i7 640LM.

    Waiting for Acer to see if they have something for less and how it compares. Firms seem to be in migration path now to core i7 even though Lenovo and HP were earlier to market for them.

    I just saw the website. Why Acer why??? :(

    Can't u add like 100€ to the 4820 to be 999€ but with i5-540m. I'd buy it right now!

    On the other hand nothing says switchable graphics in the Configurations page.

    at the moment there are only 3 config. of the 3820t listen - but im sure that there will come other models with better cpu's, cause on the german acer website u can see under the tech. spec. that they offer this:

    * Intel® Core i7-620M Prozessor (4 MB L3 Cache, 2.66 GHz mit Turbo Boost bis zu 3.33 GHz, DDR3 1066 MHz, 35 W), unterstützt Intel® 64 Architektur, Intel® Smart Cache
    * Intel® Core i5-430M/i5-520M/i5-540M Prozessor (3 MB L3 Cache, 2.26/2.40/2.53 GHz mit Turbo Boost bis zu 2.53/2.93/3.06 GHz, DDR3 1066 MHz, 35 W), unterstützt Intel® 64 Architektur, Intel® Smart Cache
    * Intel® Core i3-330M/i3-350M Prozessor (3 MB L3 Cache, 2.13/2.26 GHz, DDR3 1066 MHz, 35 W), unterstützt Intel® 64 Architektur, Intel® Smart Cache

    Compared to Sony Z, considering it's bigger dimensions and the fact that 3820 has no internal ODD shows that they can conveniently put i7+5650 without any heat issues.This also indicates that standard mainstream weight has reduced to 4 pounds and any ultra-portable should be considered less than 3 pounds.
    Do you think it is useful to see mainstreams smaller than 13" in the future?

    If the Lenovo X201s came down in price I would go Lenovo. $1394 is just too expensive right now.

    I realize all these notebooks are made in the same factories, just to different specifications and different brand labels. But the Lenovo still has the roll bar and better customer service and the like.

    I will ask a question: Is Travelmate Customer service better than regular Acer?

    origin_of_symmetry at German forum says the German market tends to deviate a bit from what Acer announces at their website. I've seen that happen on the net but just wanted to hear it from some1 else.

    Hope the 4820tg gets the i5-540m bitte!

    But that doesn't make sense. The article says that Intel is prioritizing orders for the large OEMs, while the smaller ones have to wait for theirs. So if Acer is buying up all the processors, they shouldn't have any delay in getting their systems out. Am I right?
