hehe if only the 14" has 5650 then I don't need to decide what size to get XD

The fan and heat sink setup is impressive.

@essense:
Thx. for the links
So you can "easily" switch the CPU! -
can someone please list the specs of n82
-
Asus N82Jv-VX031V
14'', i5 520M, 4GB DDR3, 640GB, NV GT335M, DVD+/-RW, 802.11 BGN, Bluetooth, 2.0MP, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, 6-cell, MYR 3999 or ~US$1255
That's for Malaysian market... -
Is this setup =/< the 3820 one? I think the 3820 has a separate heat sink for gpu and cpu??
-
Nice find!Thanks!
Do I see right that the CPU and the GPU shares the same heatsink?
If so, I hope Acer did a better job than Dell did with the Studio XPS 1340.
@essense: The 3820 is roumored to hace separate heatsinks with separate fans, which makes sense knowing it has two exhausts, and room for advanced design due to lack of ODD.
I'm looking forward to see the 3820's cooling design, BTW it does have the HD 5650 option too.
I also wonder whether Acer would provide a decent charger to avoid these beasts from throttling. -
Yea, there is supposto be a second one in the 3820TG.
-
does the n82 have usb3 or esata? how much does it weigh?
-
It has both.
-
I think 5650 and 5470 don't come with a fan, they have heat sinks but need air to dissipate heat from the sink. They have to be connected to the fan as shown in the picture
-
Excellent find, wish there was one for the 3820
If the 3820 has dual hsf it will be my choice, the 4820 430 5470 reached 75C so i think 520/540 5650 will run too hot for my taste. The y460 had two heat pipes and still ran too hot.
again wish there was a similar review for the 3820
all we saw was some fins in the right vent, hope there is a 2nd hsf -
now the n82 looks appealing w/ its great port selection
-
I'd take more battery life over more port selection any day. I wish these were out already in the US..
-
how much battery life does the n82 get?
-
Under load, 3 hours. In normal use, 4-5 hours estimated.
http://www.notebookjournal.de/tests/laptop-review-asus-n82jv-nkrt-1126/4 -
I think more with the 8 cell battery. I am guessing they used the 6 cell in their test model.
-
Does the n82 series only have a 14" and larger? What is the weight on the 14" model?
-
....Guys, there's an entire thread devoted to the N82... You will find the answers to all the questions asked already there. Why are people spamming questions on the N82 in the Timeline thread?
-
From the Asus review
"Without ongoing programs and fully dimmed screen, we even have a duration of 6.5 hours measured. This value should, however, are rarely achieved in normal use and therefore considered as the maximum value".
Same as the claimed Acer 8hrs.
I guess the sample comes with the 8 cells battery to leave a good impression, but this is a guess. -
We have to go offtopic at times,
Otherwise we dont have anything to talk about while waiting for new info about our acers -
Because we have nothing else to talk about. I'm just waiting patiently. Wanna talk about the weather?
-
I'm waiting impatiently.
Anyway on a serious note, is the difference between i5-520/540 and i7-620 very large? I'm like Bronsky, I'd like to get all the power I can, but if i7-620 is not sold in the usa I will have to go with the other option. I'm mostly a gamer. How will the difference affect me? -
If its for games, it probably won't, is what I've been reading.
-
Yea, it's dull here in Japan. (hailing).
Wunt meh 13inch beast already -

how sad. i want to live there someday. i want to go to Fukuoka city in Kyushu. have you been there?
I will wait until May 5th for either the N82Jv or the 3820TG. After that, I have no choice but to buy something else. Is early May too much to ask? -
No, the difference between the 540 and the 620 isn't as big as the names i5 and i7 would make you think. In fact, the i7 is about 5% more powerful while consuming about 15% more power!
If you'd like to read more on this, this is where I got that information, but I've heard similar stories on multiple sites on the internet.

I'm so conflicted, I think I am going to be backing up to an external quite frequently, but that is going to be quite tedious since the Timeline doesn't have eSata or USB 3. And the N82 has both. But it's also heavier and less powerful. Sigh.
-
besides it has a nvidia card, nvidia also has switchable named optimus, quite a few laptops have it... the only reason the timelineX shines is because it has ati switchable graphics.
-
You should get at least the i5 520M IMO, but that would be quite enough, maybe the i5 540M, the i7 620M is not necessary, maybe if You do video encoding or converting, but both of the mentioned i5 would do fine, and You'll also enjoy their benefits while running CPU dependent games.
It's rainin cats and dogs here, hope it'll wash away the waiting hours too. -
Beautiful weather in Ireland. Wouldnt mind hail, rain etc if it meant being able to buy the 3820TG right now. Sigh.
-
Nice, thanks everyone. I'll go for the i5-540M!
-
It's avaible at some shops now in Germany.
Also notebookjournal has the 4820TG and the 3820TG (with ATI5470 though) as testsample ready for a review! -
I agree, and I don't actually find posts on the N82 or other similar notebooks (the Sony Z) to be all that off topic, since those are models many of us are considering as substitutes for these Acers. Conversation on possible substitute models seems relevant to this thread.

Just got mail from acer
new upcoming travelmate timeline (x) will stay with matte display but will be offered with hd5650 too (and gt310m, dont ask me why) and will get HDMI ! But also presumeable no usb3,esata or expresscard -
I am confused....are these are other, new Timeline X units beyond the 3820/4820/5820 model numbers we are discussing now -or- other configurations of those models?
The specs on the upcoming Timeline models already include HDMI and the 5650 or the 5470 depending on config.

Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
There are two versions of the Timelines, the normal ones for consumers, then the Travelmates for business. The Travelmate Timeline's include features like matte screens and fingerprint readers not found on the Timeline's. -
Those are business model of TimelineX, which comes with matte display.
edit: too slow to respond
-
thanks for clearing things up, i wrote from my phone, so i left everything not important out
-
Will the TimelineX 3820TG with an i7-620M processor run hot? In a quest to buy as much PC as possible to be future proof (I know it is immpossible to be future proof), I was wondering if it made sense to have the i7, if it does not run hot in laptops? I have been noticing in different forums that people have said the i7 chips run very hot.
-
So if the new Travelmates come with HDMI and will offer the 5650, the only difference between them and the Timeline Xs is that the Travelmates get the matte display?
If so, I think I will pick up the Travelmates as I prefer the matte option. -
I am assuming that the Travelmates are released at a later date. If so, its a no-go for me. As soon as I can get my hands on an I7-620M/HD5650, I am buying it. I am happy to be the experimental subject and let everyone know if there are heat issues, etc. If they are released at the same time, I would prefer the matt display. I don't care about a fingerprint reader. Are the keyboards any better on the business units?

We don't know for sure yet until we see some reviews. But the 3820TG probably has two cooling fans: one for the processor and one for the GPU. You're likely going to run hotter having an i7-620M in there. If you look back a few pages in this thread, the increased power appeals to some folks (Bronsky
), whereas the 620M's much larger power draw (over say the i5-520M) deters others. We're all hoping that the two fans will help to prevent heat from being an issue, regardless of what processor you choose. Whether you need/want an i7 probably has more to do with what you'd use the laptop for.
-
Good choice! However, You must notice that only the i5 430M and i7 620M models have revieled themselves yet, Acer claims i5 520M and 540M would be available, it's just that - AFAIK - noone reported anything about these babies (I'm on need for the I5 540M + HD5650 equiped beast's model number), so keep on mind You might have to wait a bit more for the 540M.
Nice, sweet bussines line refresh.
I'm tempted, but waited a lot already. I'll lay my hands on the first goodie that combines switchable HD5650 and an i5 520M (or 540M) in a 13"-14" chassis.. -
This.

Damnit...now i want a Travelmate.
If there is a choice, i would always go for the matt screen.
Please speed up a bit Acer. -
the bussines model name : travelmate 8372 - 8472 - 8572

It doesn't look like business models have discrete graphics, or is it just me?
