hey, do you have an idea when it will be released? i mean in the uk...
-
-
As for the Z. If You can get it for ~1800 USD, buy it, well built, good quality, overall better bussines machine, plus it's available, OK You have to watch out with the screen.
I can get the 3820 with 430M+HD5650+320GB for 1050 USD, while the Z with 520m+128 SSD costs 3000 USD, so it's not a tough decision for me, but 1700 USD is just nice for the Z, worth considering. -
I totally agree, I would prefer a mechanical drive not only to bring the price down but for more storage (without paying insane amounts of money for larger SSD drives).

While perusing a review of the Acer 5820t over at PCPro I read this worrying little tidbit...
(Link: http://www.pcpro.co.uk/reviews/laptops/357424/acer-aspire-timeline-x-5820t )
"...As well as the aforementioned Intel graphics, an ATI Radeon HD 5650 chip is present to take the strain when required. It can only be enabled when the Acers plugged in which scuppers any chance of portable gaming but it managed a commendable 37fps in our Medium-quality Crysis benchmark..."
"...The key thing about the dual-graphics setup is that they're switchable. Not in the dynamic sense of Nvidia's latest innovations you still need to manually select one or the other in the driver menu, unfortunately but when you're out and about the power-hungry ATI chip is disabled so it won't impact on battery life..."
Any owners of this laptop reading the forum able to comment on if the ATI card can be enabled through settings, or profiles, without plugging the laptop in? -
Pricelist for Singapore is out, regular price~
-
what would that be in USD?
-
There is an ad for the TimelineX in WIred this month.. just says "coming soon."
-
+1000
IMHO, the amazing Sony screen only worths $500 premium over the rubbish timeline LCD... (I have seen both) -
haha ty. i was actually on my blackberry when i wrote that. ive never seen that before. thats awesome
-
So does the 3820T-352G32n not have a 5650? If not then what is it? And if the gpu isn't that great, will there be another 3820t with the 5650 but around (under) 1000USD?
-
*cough* UL30VT *cough*
-
Hey Lee,
so is the 3820 for sale to the general public now or is it still only for students?
Also I see there is the instant 200$ is that part of any promotion or standard prices? -
That's for the general public,
but I didn't have the time to go to singapore to check whether its arrived on the shop or not,
$200 should be part of promotion... -
1,700.00 Sgd
=
1,239.95 Cad
Awesome price for the 3820TG -
UL30VT is a nice notebook but the GPU is too weak - IMO - to be considered a real advancement over the P310.
BTW - I predicted $1,200 USD for the 3820TG - do I win the pool?
Lee - is the package a discount on the better GPU? What does the A+(B,C,D) + E mean? Are these all the models or is there an I7-620M 3820TG?
It is so nice to see the high specs being released. Now I want to hop a plane to Singapore and get mine.
I wonder if all of the lines are going to have a "T" model w/o dedicated graphics? Hmmm, some models are coming in mid-May. Ok enough of this crap, time to get them in the states.
Bronsky -
I'm in Singapore and likely buying a 3820 this weekend. I want 4GB ram, but I'm thinking I'll just get the cheaper one and add 2GB ram. Bigger HDD is nice, so maybe go for the more expensive one ... I guess I'll just need to make a call on the fly. Alternatively, maybe best to wait a month or two and get the 1830 whenever that comes out ... so many options!! Must get hands on models to feel ....
Here's the flyer:
http://promo.acer.com.sg/promo/pdf/hotbuy.pdf -
Bronsky, the package means the free gift given...
For 3820TG, you can get package A, E and choose one from B or C or D
-
The free warranty looks like it's definitely the best pick.
-
Holy crap I bought a Acer Aspire 4740 at 1.1K SGD few weeks ago now they have 4741G at the same price with 60% gamut display.
**Facepalm**
Acer laptops aren't worth buying anymore they get so outdated so quickly now I feel cheated...
I need to undergo counselling...
Makes me so depressed never going to buy another Acer anymore. -
That's hilariously silly. All laptops get outdated at the same rate, and Acer releasing the 4741G doesn't mean that the 4740 is useless all of a sudden.
-
It is 2 weeks!
Just 2 weeks if I had waited for 2 weeks I could have 60% gamut display!
But seriously 1.7K SGD for 3820TG really give other brands a run for their money. -
Good job Acer, you couldnt release to general public 2 weeks ago when I was in Singapore.

To arclord (or any other 3820T/3820TG owner): Could you please take some exact measurements of your notebook for me?
I'd love to know the exact width (of the top/panel) and depth before I get one. Thanks in advance! -
and to add to that the 4740 has the 310 the 4741 has the 330m. hehehe
im sorry, i exactly know what you mean, i bought a c2d a week before it was phased out -
No actually the 4740G has the same specs as the identically priced 4741G
The 4741G has the 310M and 330M and the price is different.
I just missed the Gamut Display...
Never mind I just repeat to myself "Laptops will eventually get outdated sometime" when I am depressed. -
Allright! Good to see the 520M available! Think I'm gonna give my retailers a hard time getting me this baby.
-
So is it true they're making a whole black version of the 3820TG and 4820TG? Can't stand the silver palmrest.
-
Where do you heard they will be making whole black version?
-
I don't have the link, but a I can swear I read somewhere they're also planning on black and red models.
-
Colour option should be for 1830T models...
-
Well some people have no problems with bad displays.
But i have to agree with you. The display is also a main part of the notebook.
You can put in a ty HDD, as long as you can switch it yourself it doesn't matter. But with the display , you are bound to use it.
Yes, i am hoping for the Travelmates too. It will have really low contrast aswell, that's for sure, but atleast around 200nits and matt would be fine.
(Actually the 3820TG is also said to have 200nits and not ~150nits on the Acerwebsite...) -
We should go on a public protest demanding Acer to make available the 3820tg in the USA.
-
We probably won't get squat here in the US by way of free gifts. The extended warranty would be nice.
-
Im a bit worried how nobody has mentioned the 3G modem? Is this still included in the unit or could I add this later?
Since I travel a bit, 3g modem would be great instead of my 3g usb modem.
I'm looking at the 3820TG -
Oh the irony! the 14" gets the 620 =(
-
Germany gets the 4820TG with Core i7 620M and Intel 160GB SSD:
http://geizhals.at/deutschland/a525878.html
Amazon claims to have it in stock soon - 1660$
But I am afraid of the cooling issues... Stresstest (Notebookjournal.de) of the i5 430M with SuperPi and ATI-Tool results in 94°C and shutdown of the device...
So how will the cooling be during summer temperatures
-
They don't call it Il Diavialo for nothing.
It's funny how the smaller unit may deal with heat better than the 14" model. The 160 GB Intel X25 is sweet. I would like to see the little Il Diavilo, a 13" with the SSD. The drive is $380 USD retail. It will probably not be much more than $150 USD more. Like getting the drive at half price. I was putting it in anyway.

I wasn't sure if this review for the 4820TG was posted already so here it is:
http://www.pocket-lint.com/review/4728/acer-aspire-timeline-4820tg-review
Sorry if it's a repost -
"we feel it is a high enough resolution, although there are rival notebooks out there which offer more at this screen size"
Kinda says it all. The keyboard description is as expected too. I have my double sided tape ready.

-
If I do decide do get one of those, I'll be trying that tape trick as well x).
I'm currently awaiting more reviews for the 3820T, and hopefully it's launched here in Portugal next month so I can go see one live. -
abaddon4180 Notebook Virtuoso
So the consensus on the pricing of the 4820TG is between $1200-1400?
-
I am also from Portugal and, like all the others in here am patiently waiting (maybe not as much as Bronsky) for my 3820TG. I am a long time lurker in this thread.
I tried to contact Acer about availability for the 13 incher, they said all the models that reach Europe should be available in Portugal sooner or later.
Not much of an answer...
I sure hope they arrive here with the mor powerfull i5's and the 5650... with a sub-1000 price... oh well, back to reality.
-
In Germany it can be bought at around 815, I suppose it can't be much more expensive around here...
-
Hi guys!
Typing from my 3820TG, its so pretty!
I like the keyboard and screen, they are both better than my acer 1410, which I didnt find bad either...

-
I love that excitement when the first new lappies ar arriving to their users...
Maybe somebody should start the 3820 offical owners lounge? -
debenhamselectricals.com and acerdirect.co.uk are now listing Arrandale Timeline machines. No sign of the 5650 though and prices aren't great. The 3820TG will set you back £799 with an i5 430m, 5470, 4GB RAM and a 640GB HDD. The 4820TG is £849 with the same specs bar the hard drive (500GB).
http://www.acerdirect.co.uk/Acer_As...re_i5_Laptop_LX.PTB02.015/version.asp?PID=494
http://www.acerdirect.co.uk/Acer_Aspire_Timeline_2_4820TG_Core_i5_Laptop_LX.PSG02.007/version.asp
There's other models available, but those are the highest spec'd. Debenhams prices are higher, hence the link to Acer Direct.
Hopefully just artificially high launch prices, because PC Pro and Pocket Lint had the 5820TG and 4820TG in the UK at £899 with 5650... -
Any idea on when they will be available in Canada?
