The 5820TG is coming with a 54xx series GPU.

Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
Everybody calm down, at the end of the month you will all be happy. Many models for many nations.
-
Hi frankiex,
I think you have a faulty unit, you may wanna send it back and have it replaced/repaired. I got a 4820TG as well, I experienced a black screen but only for a sec, and i think it was switching the gx card from the ATI to the Intel Integrated, but I don't experience any unresponsiveness after that. -
I was actually referencing a 3820TG. In the model numbers that were provided by Acer Insider, there is an I7-620M 5820TG presumably with an HD5650.
BTW, there is now an I3-350M 4820T listed on Provantage for preorder. They are comming, ever so slowly.

@Jayayess1190 - Later Today we will all be happy.
-
Yes, it will be true. My 3820TG is just in the car of my local postman.
-
So today or in june 15th acer is launching timelinex in US?
-
No ... that's a very old joke that started in the early pages of this thread.
Bronsky
-
Are the US vendors just not in the loop? It seems like none of them are calling the new laptops TimelineX or even 3802T, 4820T, 5820T yet. It looks like most vendors are listing the TimelineX under Aspire, Travelmate, no names, factory part numbers only, etc.
-
A LOT of timelinex models just got back in stock here in norway, ranging from the bottom T models to top TG models, the only model that is not in stock is 4820TG with 6 cell battery ( 9 cell version is in stock). So basically you can get whatever you want.
Configs are i5-450M for the TG versions and i3-350M for the T versions, plus there is one i7-620M 5820TG model, no higher CPU's offered for the other models.
Guess they are done supplying EU with timelineX now and can start thinking about US
I think one reason why Acer doesn't focus on US might be price pressure, especially from Asus, asus here in EU is generally a bit on the expensive side, while it's kinda "cheap" in US when comparing prices. -
CPU package: PGA 988
-
Thanks - I thought you had retired.
I hope your company appreciates all of the good will you have generated for them from your help on this site.
Bronsky
-
So the processor is replacable in the future? With all i3m, i5m and i7m?
-
Yes, its upgradeable...
-
Yes. It appears to be. The I7-620M and the other I5 processors that are for sale on ebay all list PGA 988 sockets. I suspected that the Acer had the PGA 988 and that was just confirmed. The good part is that the 3820TG comes with an I7 configuration so the processor upgrade will be supported by the current bios. Looks right to me.
Bronsky
-
what does upgrading involve?
is it simply pulling the cpu out and plugging in a new one? -
so nobody here before upgraded their timelinex?
is it upgradable by sandy bridge procs? -
essentially yes. unscrew the laptop lid compartment to the cpu, unlatch the cpu from the socket. the placement of the cpu has to be aligned with the socket in the correct orientation otherwise you could damage the cpu. there should be diagrams/instruction on how to do it but from what i saw on the ebay cpu for the i5 988pin, its the oem (original manufacturer equipment), it is barebones cpu, no accessories or instructions are provided. if you decide to upgrade yourself, just make sure before latching the cpu, the conducting plates are in place correctly (all the cpu conducting plates making direct contact with the socket on the motherboard).
you could do a search term 'installing laptop cpu' on youtube for instructions -
That and reattaching the heat sink/fan unit with thermal paste. The hard part will probably be getting to it. Still going envy or thinking about a 3820TG? As soon as I can get my hands on a 3820TG with an HD5650, I'll probably do it and post pictures. I have already located a manual and will be getting one before I attempt this.

-
No. Sandy Bridge needs a new socket and will not fit in the TimelineX models.
-
Here in the UK a few e-tailers are listing the 3820T's, even less are listing the 3820TG's and those are the crappy 5470's and 9 cell's - why people would want that combination I have no idea...
I actually leave to start a 3 month internship in Ireland on Sunday June 27th, really need a laptop for this date. If the Acer isn't available then I will be giving my money to HP.
I always find it strange why the UK is one of the last countries to get a piece of tech and when we do get it it's massively over-priced and under-powered. Hell, maybe I'll have better luck buying it in Dublin! -
Early reviews/feedback on HP Envy 17 on this forum suggest it's a downer, especially with heat. If the Envy 14 has similar issues, it's truly a no-brainer for the 3820TG.
-
I was at costco today doing some research. Played around with some laptops weighing 5.5lbs (they didn't have anything weighing 5.25lbs) and 4lbs. To my surprise, the 5.5lbs didn't bother me as much as I thought it would. I think it had to do with its footprint more than anything. They didn't have any 14" laptops weighing anywhere near the Envy so I picked up a few 15.6". The weight distribution made it seem like 5.5lbs wasn't that heavy. Nonetheless I will always prefer a 13" 4lber over a 14.5" 5.25lber.
I also finally got a chance to see these acer keyboards in person. And i'm in LOVE! lol. They feel and look so good. The spacing between the keys were perfect. The gateway I played with had no flex at all to my surprise (again). It will be a pain indeed to clean the keys though... better stock up on some pressurized air cans.
With that said my decision will simply come down to what's available. I can wait until both models make their appearances in the USA, and see if we get the coveted 5650 combo in the 3820. If there is a 3820TG w/ i5 and 5650, that's what i'll get. If there isn't, i'll go with the Envy 14 and replace the slot loading dvdrw optical drive with either a HDD caddy or blu ray rom optical drive. -
I have the same type of keyboard on my 1410T and I use a small vacuum cleaner with a brush atachment. Lightly across the keys and everything comes out of the space underneath. It is amazing how many crumbs come out of there.
I like biscotti with my coffee.

rep this elequent man!!
Never had a poem dedicated to me ...
It has been an epic struggle.
-
so for acer timelinex us rlease the date is still june 27th or withing june right?
so in 15 days well know or is it july? -
27th is the HP Envy release date. Acer is less clear - "end of June" is the date.
HD5650's could take longer. It's funny, a month ago, I didn't think I could wait any longer. Now, for some reason, my anticipation has gone completely away. When it gets here ... it gets here.
Of course, it helps that my company has gotten a mobile workstation for me to use over the next couple of months.
I haven't worked on a 15.6" since I gave my Vostro 1500 to my bookeeper. It is really nice.

Hello All,
I finally got my 5820TG-524G50Mn from Pixmania.co.uk, I would avoid this site if you can. They're rubbish. I have seen the same laptop at Comet for £800.
The question I have is is there somewhere where i can download all the Acer add-ons. I have been to the ACER driver download site and sure some of the stuff is there but there is stuff missing such as the ACER Updater software. I need to rebuild the laptop with Windows 7 Profesional or Enterprise so I can join to the domain at work. I'm currently building the recovery disks and I'll grab a copy of the windows\system32\drivers dir.
Any ideas?
Thanks
ACER newbie. -
Having finished the recovery disk it asked me to create a "Drivers and Applications Disk". Nice Acer.
Hopefully that'll have it all on.
Thanks. -
Acer USA has stated the TG will not be released until the early part of July...it is unknown whether this is the 5650 version or not. -
That poem is the best thing in this entire thread.
-
Uhm, I might be somewhat subject-hijacking here, but does anyone know a store in the EU with the i5-450m + HD5650 3820TG that ships internationally?
I find the i5-430M version on most German stores, about 850 + shipping to Portugal. I've seen the 450m version in a couple stores in Austria (for the same price, actually), but they don't seem to ship out of the country.
Thanks ! -
Try it by cyberport.de.
The 450m Model is not listed on the web page but you can it order [online.] on telephone.
Best regards -
Uhm, if it's not listed on the web page how can I order it online?
I see the ones with a 330m \350m \ 430m listed only , mind if I ask for some link or another pointer?
Thanks ! -
Sorry my error. You need to call them.
-
Ugh, I hate calling, especially when I know both of us won't be speaking our mother-language xD.
I've sent them an email about it in english, hoping to get a positive answer ^^.
In the past, I've ordered a guitar from a german store and the rep who managed my process spoke portuguese, maybe I'll get lucky again =).
Will update the info here when I get it.
Thanks -
HERE IT COMES BIACHES!!
YouTube - HP ENVY 14
WT F is with the horse?
Bronsky
-
I "guess" the horse is supposed to represent power, as in horsepower? After it shows the horse it tells you about the processor.
Pretty lame. -
I kind of wish that HP could've shoved all that into the envy 13
I think I might consider the envy 14 if the 3820tg does not come out fast enough for the US market.
It would be nice if someone can provide me a source(willing to ship to the US) of where I can import the 3820TG beside firedouse seeing how they don't have it in stock anymore and it would be nice if that source has a website. -
Yes indeed. Provide a merchant with a decent website and reputation.
-
I must admit that I like the look of the Envy 14. But then, I like the look of the MBP that HP copied.
Bronsky
-
Huh. I didn't know Sarah Jessica Parker did commercials.
-
That was funny.
Bronsky
-
Bronsky getting feisty!
-
Such a weird commercial. Will this one be on TV?
-
I would assume so. That way HP can tell the retailers who carry its notebook that it is advertising it. That commercial was designed to appeal to the buyers who are attracted to a computer by its looks more than anything else. Not those who frequent sites like this. I think the company knows that there is already a significant demand for its product from sophisticated users.
I really do like this Envy on paper. If it performs anywhere near its hype it will be a great machine. Cooling is the only real issue for me. We have to see how the cooling system works. The display has the best specs of any 14 I have seen. When it is released, if there is 25% Bing Cash Back, a fully configured I5-540M model will cost around $1,250-$1,350 with a 160GB SSD factory installed. That is going to be hard to resist. Plus, if you order CTO, once it arrives, you have 21 days to try it out at no cost (no restocking fees, etc) and you can return it no questions asked. I could see myself buying one of these on impulse. I feel like Ulysses lashed to the mast of his ship without wax in his ears while sailing past the island of the Sirens. Pure torture.
Bronsky
EDIT: You know that if I order one of these, the Acers will show up everywhere the next day. Hmmmmmm.
-
Interesting commercial.
Though when planing a board like that you don't get dust, you get shavings. -
its not looking good when I come to check this thread and there is talk of the envy 14....horses...and planing wood not creating dust...
-
You left out Homeric references to classical Greek literature.
Bronsky
-
Indeed, the queer Envy 14 has invaded this thread.
