Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
I am reading that these new Timelines, the 1830, 3820, 4820, and 5820 will be announced during the last week of March.

Just saw this on Notebook Choiice. An I5 in an 11.6", man that looks sweet. Looks like a much better keyboard than my 1410. I think I need the 13" 3820TG for my desk, but ultimately will be replacing my travel 1410 with one of these babys. Cant wait to see them. Now these would be perfect with an Ion 2 or, better yet an ATI basic card and an XGP port.

Student discount worth 1000 SGD?! I'm moving...
-
I think it is the ULV i5 in the 11.6in, but if that is paired with a switchable gpu, I am sold. Almost, the screen on my Vaio TT is hard to beat.
-
I don't think the 11.6" is being paired with a discrete gpu from what I can tell. From the naming scheme only G = discrete and that's a 1830t
-
1900 for an Acer? Why would anyone do that when the i5/i7 Z is out?
-
I don't mean to offend anyone but, really, have some common sense. Ofcourse this laptop won't be anywhere near some list price.
-
I know but we can dream.

Hey everyone,
I've been lurking a couple threads on NBR for a while now. Evidently I'm in the market for a new laptop and for a good while I thought the UL30JT was it for me. One thing that I especially liked about it was the sweet looking keyboard on it.
Eventually the UL30JT thread took a turn and someone mentioned this Acer laptop, the beastly 3820TG. At this point, I'm pretty much sold on it. The only thing I'm not crazy about is the keyboard. It just seems a bit too cramped. My parents have an Acer and I'm not a huge fan of their keyboard (I don't know what model it is, it's just some generic Acer marketed to the general population with a 15.6" screen which they paid like 600$ or so).
Anyway, my question is: Does Acer offer more spaced out keyboards? I know they call the keyboard on the 3820TG a chiclet keyboard, but compared to a Sony, Asus or Mac keyboard, those keys are damn close. I know Asus offers OEM backlit keyboards for like 20$ and those are awesome looking. Does Acer offer something similar? Or even better, would it be possible to fit an Asus keyboard into an Acer laptop? (I hope this isn't a stupid question >_<)
So yeah, thanks for the help all!

Just bought this notebook stand for my future 3820TG
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250597671924
I don't purchase much on ebay so I gladly used one of my 40 transactions for 8% Bing Cashback.
Check out the video review on the OP, shows some great close-up shots of the keyboard. It looks fantastic! -
I like how the ad for the stand keeps saying "notebook not included" duh?

Just a piece of news:
Acer Aspire TimelineX 1830T -
I cant wait
-
Sadly, there are some pretty stupid/anal people out there that would probably sue them if they bought the stand only to find out it doesn't come with a laptop...
-
too bad this isnt when it's actually going to be released
-
Right, but we will get new info. Most importantly, a release date.
-
BTW..
There is a new active Acer Aspire TimelineX 1830T 11.6" thread here.
Added 1830T photos since I had them laying around from another post.
What is this color? Brown?
-
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
Yes, the 1830T comes in brown, red, black, and silver. -
i wanna see the black and silver lids
-
this laptop has 2 fans/heatsinks (from the Russian review) making it overcome the y460 cpu heat issues. Also looks better.
The fact that it doesnt have usb 3.0, eSATA or even an expressscard port where I can add them therefore relying on the very slow usb 2.0 is just annoying. -
nice i guess the 14" i5 5650 is the way to go for me... now i just gotta save up..
-
Agreed, guess one would have to do without usb 3.0, which is quite a blame regarding it has no ODD.
The possible replacement would be Asus N82, BUT it's definately less portable. -
Excellent observation!.

In case anyone hasn't seen it. This is exactly in line with what someone said previously about march 17th announce date. -
So is the 10-12 hour battery life we're hearing about really so? And how about on dedicated while gaming?
-
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
1-2 hours probably. -
What about video streaming? If I wanted to run this off of batteries for a few hours to watch video via HDMI, how much time would I get?
-
Hmm.. in order to get more battery life out of this computer, would it possible to be able to switch the i5 processor with an i7-640LM? The 10w lower TDP really appeals to me.
-
You don't have to switch to dedicated graphics for 1080p video streaming. The integrated one will do just fine. Even its predecessor (4500MHD) was able to stream 1080p perfectly. So my guess is that if you switch to external monitor only (i.e. laptop screen off) and stream the video to your TV, it should last at least 4 hours, maybe 5?
-
The links on the frontpage are no longer working and the laptops are no longer on the US website.... What happened?
-
The end of the world is near. Just a hunch...
-
Engadget just reported that Acer has unveiled their TimelineX series on their own website...but when I click on the links it brings me to the Acer USA product page that doesn't list any of the indicated models
Engadget
Come on Acer, tell me this is a good sign of some sort. -
Maybe the Engadget article triggered a large enough number of hits that someone noticed the information was up before it was supposed to be. At least I'm hoping that's what the reason is...
-
the biggest confusion for me is, acer say core 2 solo on 1830t yet everyone has been saying core i5 (which would mean decent integrated graphics, admittedly at the 500mhz clock not 900?).......
-
Will the 15" have the ATI 5650? I checked out some reports and it only said it would come with a 5470. This laptop is starting to appeal to me, not sure if I should cancel my order on a 5740-6979!
And how much do you think it will cost? I wonder if I'll be able to get some sort of cashback with Bing and free tax+shipping =D -
The 3820 (13.3"), 4820 (14.1"), and 5820 (15.6") variants will all have the 5650 option and be sold under the TG name.
ie. 3820TG, 4820TG, and 5820TG.
You just need to hope the resellers in your area will sell the 5820TG. -
Do you think this laptop will be in the 1000$ price range?
-
I'm starting to think that if I'm lucky enough to have a reseller near me that stocks the 3820TG (or any other TG flavor) I could start a small business shipping them to you guys
-
maxs, stay close to the reseller and keep us updated with news. I really want the 3820tg.
-
I'm in if the shipping cost doesn't cost much
-
We'll find out within 2 weeks!
-
Any guesses? haha, I'm hoping for less than 1000$ in US dollars
-
As long as your markup isn't too steep i'm in too.

Well, the review unit in the video in the OP is a 13.3" 3820T with i5 430M, ATI HD 5470, and estimated price of $849 USD. That makes a $1,000 USD price point for the i5 430M with ATI HD 5650 a reality.
We all know 13.3" variations are more expensive than their 14.1" and 15.6" counterparts... so I think a 15.6" 5820TG i5/5650 for around $1,000 USD isn't too far fetched.
But at this point i'm not even going to waste my energy anymore on guessing how much these notebooks will be, because in 2 weeks we'll know for sure
